30 Greatest WrestleMania Moments - WWE Top 10 Special Edition

OK, let's talk about this now, shall we?

- Austin v. Michaels at #1...no way.  Hogan slamming Andre is clearly #1, not only on a list of WM moments but of moments in wrestling history all-time.

- John Cena v. Rock II at #7 or whatever it was can suck my ass.

- Hogan-Rock should have been higher still.  70,000 people losing their minds and jumping up and down like little kids at least warrants #3.

- I kind of liked the contrast of Shawn's career ending, followed immediately by Flair's career ending.

- The Savage-Liz reunion is insultingly low.

They sure do love them some Shawn Michaels, don't they?

Comments

  1. Shawn/Austin doesn't deserve the top spot but it definitely deserves to be in the top 5.

  2. #1: Pete rose gets tombstoned b for the 1st time or GTFO.

    HOW BOUT IT?!

    ReplyDelete
  3. The Savage/Liz moment at WM 7 got shafted.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Edge spear from X7 should have been higher. Such an awe inspiring, picture perfect spot.

    ReplyDelete
  5. You're fighting a losing battle by criticizing a WWE Best Of List, Scott.

    ReplyDelete
  6. The last time we were here we KICKED YER ASS.

    ReplyDelete
  7. we need another pete rose sighting this year.

  8. I've brought this up before but since Austin/HBK is 1...Keller always rants about how Austin/HBK is the most historically significant match in history. His rationale: it headlined the ppv that kicked off the Austin era and subsequently the biggest money era ever, while starting the downfall of wcw.

I don't agree but it's an interesting talking point

  9. What? No Brock Lesnar Shooting Star Press from WM 19?? That's the night Kurt Angle wrestled with a with a broken freaking neck!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm shocked (probably shouldn't be, though) that Austin-Michaels was ranked No. 1. How many people actually remember that? Michaels disappeared immediately and Austin started the McMahon feud. It's Hogan vs. Andre, always and forever.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Seriously you guys are lucky that the Shane vs Vince match wasn't rated #1. Count your lucky stars.

    ReplyDelete
  12. They showed the groggy aftermath.

    ReplyDelete
  13. #1 Triple H beating Lesnar
    #2 Triple H beating Jericho
#3 Triple H beating Rock, Foley, Big Show.
#4 Triple H beating Owen Hart
    #5 Triple H beating Goldust
    #6 Triple H beating Booker T.
    #7 Triple H beating Orton
    #8 Triple H beating Sheamus
#9 Triple H survives second degree burns from dry ice

Gotta love WWE telling people what the top moments are. Did the email survey get lost on it's way to the BoD?

    ReplyDelete
  15. The funny thing is I don't recall a single Triple H moment on the list.

    ReplyDelete
  16. last time I was here we kicked your ass!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Agreed that there was too much Michaels. Hogan/Rock should have been a top 5. Bret/Michaels was also really overrated.

    ReplyDelete
  18. That was a good match.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Plus the match sucked.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't have the stats but I would bet good money that Steve Austin is #1 on at least 50% of these lists.

    ReplyDelete
  21. He has had some awesome WM entrances tho. The one where he smashes the glass as he walks through might be my favorite WM entrance ever.

Sucks his Barbarian outfit negates anything cool he's ever done

    ReplyDelete
  22. Just watched it a few nights ago, very fun.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Pete Rose at wm14 was so awesome I don't even know where to begin.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well, Shawn is Mr. WrestleMania......

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hogan/Rock is one of the most insane things I've ever seen. The bar I was in was going completely apeshit when Hulk kicked out of the Rock Bottom and started hulking up. Yes, we were all jumping up and down, because our inner children, for one glorious moment, remembered exactly what it was like to be a little kid staring in awe at hulk Hogan.

I know people have written that off at times for just being a Canada crowd thing, but Scott is right - look at the faces of all the people you can see in the crowd losing it from the moment Hulk comes out, and you know that we all wanted our hero back.

Unfortunately, they misread what that was and put Hulk in a position he shouldn't have been in, but man, that night....

    ReplyDelete
  26. It is a really interesting viewpoint, I'll give him that. I'm not sure I agree either, but I can see his side.

    ReplyDelete
  27. How 'bout it?!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Michaels vs Angle should have been on that list.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Stranger in the AlpsMarch 31, 2014 at 11:46 AM

I disagree with you. Poison is NOTHING without Bret Michaels.

    ReplyDelete
  30. If we got piper vs hogan straight up at wm1 how much better does that shows nostalgia value become, and would that be #1 on every list?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Of course he did have that stage botch once.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Austin/HBK might've officially 'kicked off the Austin era' but I'd still argue that Austin/Bret at WM13 was more significant since that was the true breakout for Stone Cold as a face.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Savage/Liz WAS a magic moment and is quite low. If nothing else, it showed us the impact of having your shoes on too tight at WrestleMania, if you're a lady.

    ReplyDelete
  34. True, but WrestleMania wouldn't have been as big of a deal without Mr. T in the main event. I doubt their War to Settle the Score match (from the month before on MTV) would've drawn as much attention from the mainstream, which is what the first Mania was really all about.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Austin Hart > Austin HBK.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah, if HHH had made sure to wear the Barbarian stuff for every Mania appearance thereafter he would be held in higher esteem.

    Hindsight.

    ReplyDelete
  37. "They sure do love them some Shawn Michaels, don't they?"

As per WWE's revisionist history of 1990s Shawn Michaels being the catalyst of the Attitude Era and before that the wildly popular "New Generation" banner-carrier (neither of which were really true). I'm a fan of Michaels as much as the next guy, but the glorifying of his 1990s main event run is so overblown... especially since his 2000s run produced far better "big event" matches.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Very true, plus I'm glad orndorff got a shot to main event the biggest show ever at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Totally agreed. By far one of my most memorable experiences as a fan, and the one that my friends always talk about.

    ReplyDelete
  40. No it didn't. His 1996 run will never be matched for delivering the goods at the big shows.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Not much HHH. I am pleased.

    ReplyDelete
  42. You're right, I didn't even notice that.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Did Shawn micheals fuck your sister or something. You and worst in the world are fucking crazy to hate on hbk and Bret so much. Let it go

    ReplyDelete
  44. Except HHH's run in 2000 was better and also was the most profitable year in the company's history. But let's forget that because HHH is the devil.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Wouldn't go that far at all, and it was impressive what they did pull off considering Shawn's condition. But it's no classic.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Agreed. Having legit stars like T and Cyndi Lauper made the WWF look like the top organization, despite the fact that the NWA had a longer history and more prestige (well, as far as prestige goes in a fake sport).

    ReplyDelete
  47. Huh? Are you saying hbk vs Austin sucked or Andre vs hogan sucked?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Stranger in the AlpsMarch 31, 2014 at 11:56 AM

Is that where the crowd refused to break after the stage dive?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Lol its not even close to 96 Shawn.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Shawn won the title from Bret, and had classics with Diesel and Mankind. I didn't watch much WWF at the time. What other good matches should I track down?

    ReplyDelete
  51. HHH-Cactus at the 2000 Rumble and No Way Out and HHH-Rock at Judgment Day 2000 > any 1996 HBK match except the match vs. Mankind at Mind Games.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Also shawn didn't need thumbtacks and hitc cages and career ending angles to get a five star match with foley

    ReplyDelete
  53. I do think HBK vs. Foley was the best match if you're ranking 2000 HHH and 1996 HBK together, FYI.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Bret vs shawn is way better, hbk vs Nash is way better, hbk vs dbs at kotr is way better,

Shawn had 8 **** or better matches on ppv in 1996 and and 3 matches that were 5 stars or very close.

    ReplyDelete
  55. No, he fucked my mother back when he was wrestling in the AWA and I'm his illegitimate child, furious that my daddy won't recognize me.

Or... you must have missed the part where I wrote "I'm a fan of Michaels as much as the next guy." I'm a huge fan of his in-ring work. He's one of the best ever. I just dispute the assertion that he was a great champion in 1995 from a business standpoint or that he was so instrumental to the Attitude era when he had to sit out of basically the entire era because of injuries.

    ReplyDelete
  56. No way. HHH's 2000 run is a lot better than HBK's match with Bret.

    ReplyDelete
  57. What are these eight **** matches?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Dude check out these matches
Against Owen at the Feb ppv before mania
The British bulldog match at king of the ring(not the may ppv, the kotr one), the six man at the july ppv, the Vader summerslam match, and the sid match at survivor series.
