QOTD 127:A real fine place to start!

I'm in a romantic mood today mostly because the picture to the left is what I was up to on Tuesday with a lady who kinda sorta looked like Selena Gomez.

Thus, a sappily romantic question for those of us happily taken, unhappily taken, or on the way to being happily or unhappily taken.

Love at first sight? Yes or not? If yes, did it pan out for you long-term? What is your greatest courtship?

What is the greatest courtship in the history of television? Jim / Pam?

What about pro-wrestling? I was a bit sappy for Steph & Test, but found myself fond of Kane & Tori, too.

Bonus: What are your top three most romantic songs? 1. Hands Clean by Alanis Morisette, 2. "Huckleberry" by Toby Keith 3. "I'm Yours" - Jason Mraz.
The most romantic song EVER is of course this classic gem from "Clerks".

  9. That interview reads like night and day. Her early days and time in WWF seem to be nothing but fond memories with little negativity, and then as the early/mid 90s approach, things go downhill. As a kid I never noticed how big of a role she had, managing Randy Savage, then Ted Dibiase, and then Shawn Michaels, all without having to take time off to find something to do with her. That 1993 face run kind of sucked, but by that point, there wasn't much left to do, anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  10. TV: Desmond and Penny
    Pro graps: Liz and Savage.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yeah, Liz and Savage is tough to top in wrestling

    ReplyDelete
  12. I never she was THAT bad of an addict and she really only glossed over what led to get fired. She was probably one of the worst addicts in pro wrestling.

At first sight, it's always "I wanna tap that". You might think it's love, but if you're attracted to someone after seeing them for the first time, you just want to bang them. As far as romantic songs, I'm partial to "Lick it Up" by KISS.

  17. It's funny because this is basically the problem with the WWE right now. They're too busy holding onto and glorifying the past to realize a future wrestling legend is right in front of them.

  18. Can never go wrong with Teddy Pendergrass or Luther Vandross.

could someone explain what the different roku's are?

not only do i see 1, 2, and 3, and i stuff like xd, xs, lt, and stick, among others (from amazon.com)

anyone know the short list for what will work with the network? and is buying a refurbished one a bad idea?

i'd basically be streaming via wireless, so are there other options besides roku?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Bayless, what are your thoughts on Feinstein? I go back and forth on him. You've seen more of these than I have.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That idea is what they wanted to do in 2000 (have a channel targeted to males co-owned by both the then-WWF and USA Network using the libraries of both). It's a shame USA turned them down because a channel mixing episodes of Prime Time Wrestling and Superstars Of Wrestling with Weird Science, Forever Knight and Renegade would have seriously been the greatest channel in the history of television.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Swap Lisa Ann with Alexis Texas and this is my story.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Shawn was out of action, legitimate or not, from February until May, and from June until August. He returned to full time wrestling in August and main events the September and October pay per views before getting the title in November. Hard to say Vince didn't have faith in him. If anything it's Bret who Vince continually tried to replace - with Hogan, Luger, Diesel then Shawn. Bret was the reliable place holder who was good enough for now but not the star Vince wanted in the long run.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Haha again, there's no way to compare that. The equivalent would be Daniel Bryan fans still bitching about his push in the buildup to WrestleMania 50.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Compared to the guy who does them now, he is better, but he struggles to get anyone to elaborate or reign them in and comes across very scripted. He sticks to his script of token questions and gets way out of his element when the subject changes direction. He comes across as having very little in terms of personality. Sean Oliver from Kayfabe Commentaries is more likable and a much better interviewer. He can get his guests to say a lot and has a way with them.

    ReplyDelete
  29. He comes out to Real American right? I remember that being right around the time that Obama came out to Real American too for one of the DC Correspondents dinner things. Now Hulk Hogan, that guy was something of a draw, huh?

And I loved Eastbound pretty much all the way through. It definitely pounds the same note over and over, but personally I never got tired of it. Maybe because I actually watched it week to week, rather than binging on it like most shows. Also the last (4th) season with ken Marino was fucking great.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well said. The one thing that annoys me about him is his inability to carry an conversation if not veers off of the normal. I do think he's decent though overall.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Farva asks Bayless his thoughts on Feinstein. He says that he is better than the guy now but he comes off as too scripted. He thinks that Oliver from KC is much better.

Overall, this shoot is not worth your time. Stupid fucking questions.

  35. Diesel wasn't the biggest mistake ever and Randy Orton is anything but awesome. Comparing him to Eastbound and Down, terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Damn. He's pretty generic but I don't think he does anything offensively bad. His inability to elaborate on some stuff is awful tho. The most interesting stuff is random off the cuff talking points and he never veers in that direction

    ReplyDelete
  45. To be fair, he's not very smart.

  46. The 1st Roku model is the oldest and least stable,it was basically created only to use Netflix.
The 2nd model (or 2 XD to go by the official name) was released as a faster and more stable upgrade over the 1st with more available apps.
The 2 XS has the same features as the 2 XD but it also comes with games that are not available to use on the 1st model or the 2 XD as well as a custom Bluetooth remote that's easier to use than the remote on the 2 older models.
The Roku 3 is again faster and more stable than the other three and it comes with a Bluetooth remote with a headphone jack built in just in case you want to watch something without disturbing anyone nearby but the catch is it's only compatiable on HDTVs (HDMI connection only) whereas the other 3 Roku models also have an A/V hookup you can use in case you don't have an HDTV but the Roku 3 does have a YouTube app which is not available on the other Rokus.
The WWE Network can be used on all Roku models regardless of which one you choose. The Network can also be used on XBOX 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Apple TV and nearly all of Apple's mobile devices.

And when they flash forwarded to the future and there was a mentally disabled guy playing Stevie--- no lingering on it, no jokes at the guy's expense, but just showing that's how Kenny sees him--- holy fuck that killed me. That whole final montage was amazing.

  53. But if Vince really had faith in Shawn Michaels, why did he put the belt on him in January 1997 (Royal Rumble) in order to lose it to Bret Hart in March 1997 (WrestleMania 13)?

Sure, he tried to replace Bret Hart plenty of times, but by the end of 1996 it was obvious that Bret was the lesser of two evils, which is why Vince wanted to put the title on him before Vince decided to run with heel Bret vs. Austin instead when Shawn took a vacation.

    ReplyDelete
  64. even better is the episode where George meets her parents a couple of seasons later and tries to convince them he has a house in the Hamptons.

    Damn I miss Seinfeld.

    ReplyDelete
  65. As someone who attended many early 90's live events in Philly, NJ, NYC, and the Poconos, I can attest that Bret was a draw. Now....was the arena half-empty? Yes. But those shows would have had less than a thousand people attending if not for Bret Hart. Nearly everyone that was there was there for Bret Hart. Not for Undertaker, not for Luger, not for the Clique guys. And there's something to be said for that.

  96. Yes..I enjoyed that show..till the rumble.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Sherri was one of a kind. She was a mainstay on every AWA card I attended as a young boy. Funniest moment ever: a cage match between the Midnight Rockers and Rose & Somers for the tag belts (pinfall rules). Rose tries to escape the cage and Sherri climbs up to try and pull him out, but Jannetty is holding Rose. So Sherri grabs Rose's trunks...and the arena gets a less than pleasant view of Rose's bare ass. Funny as hell. I think Michaels pinned Somers right afterwards.

So sad she couldn't overcome her demons.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I thought the new angles were supposed to come AFTER BoD Mania! Farva and Cult are jumping the gun!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Anyway, realize you're joking about teh D-Bry hate (I mean, I assume so) but I will say this: this year's Mania looks like a fucking bomb.

The only babyface with anything truly meaningful going on is Bryan, and while he's awesome and could definitely break out as a megstar the fact is that he's still right at the beginning of his first main event push. And they're counting on him to carry the TWO biggest matches on the show.
Cena-Wyatt is interesting to hardcores and I'm glad they're doing it, but for most fans it's a massive step down in importance to what Cena has been doing the last 3 years with Rock. Bray's a brand new guy, there's no gimmicks or tirles at stake, and the feud basically JUST started and hasn't been heated up at all yet. So Cena's in a non-drawing position.

And Undertaker-Brock is such a mess that I don't even see that match having any appeal other than "Oh look, Brock and Undertaker are still wrestling that's cool I guess." Does anyone give a shit about that match?

Hogan's already done everything for free—— walk out to real American, pose, say bother—— that he could possibly do on the show. Nothing else—— Cesaro, Shield, Usos, Rhodes—— have anything going on. The battle royal isn't a draw. There's no Rock, Austin, celebrities. There's no Punk.

They're basically selling a 4-hour edition of Raw, complete with Daniel Bryan wrestling twice.

    This shit is gonna bomb.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Yeah, that's basically for free on planet earth.

Agreed on watching comedies week to week. Whenever I binge watch a few episodes in a row of any comedy, you sort to feel teh repetitiveness of the character beats. That week buffer still works well.
Whereas with something like Boarwalk Empire or True Detective I could happily watch like 5 in a row if I have the chance.

  172. Can you be a little more specific on the first question? I'm not sure what you mean by "Roku It's".

I forgot to mention the Roku stick. It's HDTV compatible only so if you're rocking a standard definition TV, it will not work on your SDTV.

And the Roku HD player is actually the 1st Roku, it was just renamed the Roku HD when they started to be sold in stores a few years ago because the 1st Roku was only available on the Roku website when it first came out, you can still use it on a standard definition TV with a A/V hookup despite the name.

  175. Man, does Flair ruin those roundtable shows or what? If he's not constantly annoying everyone by reliving his glory days of chasing every skirt in town, he's pissing all over anyone and anything. And has the nerve to list which promoters still owe him money, without a bit of irony.
