  1. Is XXI the one where SUPER CENA overcomes sound financial advice and wins the title?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Yes. And DAVE~! tells HHH to deal with it.

  5. Not a real big fan of any of those Mania's. I picked VI though.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Cool beans, thanks Bayless for running with the idea and keeping it WWE for us lowly Xbox users.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'm guessing your a Batsita fan since he railed Melina behind Morrisons back?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I picked 6 as well for the kid nostalgia factor.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yeah me too. I don't like 14 at all. 21 would be fine though.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Nah. They weren't even married and Melina is an easy piece by all accounts. Amateur hour DAVE~! amateur hour.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I can't even remember the main event much less the card for 21 honestly. Past Mania 20 they all kinda blend together for me.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Good point. That must have sucked for Morrison though. I know the rumor is Vince lost respect for him over that. But what was Morrison expected to do? I think if he fought Batista that would piss WWE higher ups off. Also, you can't be too mad at the guy in that situation. Yeah it's a dick move but the main bad guy in a situation like that is her.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Right? It's like for a lot of us Wrestlemania with Benoit winning was kind of the big series Finale for a lot of us, we got what we wanted. The guy who we never thought would win the big one, WON the big one, over the most notorious game player in the...game, and one of the best wrestlers of all time.

Where do you go from there, ya know?

    ReplyDelete
  14. "Also, you can't be too mad at the guy in that situation. Yeah it's a
dick move but the main bad guy in a situation like that is her."

Tell that to every cuckolded husband everywhere... they NEVER see it that way... I feel like I have had this conversation recently.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It's not even the Benoit thing. It's just past that point all the Manias kinda feel the same if that makes any sense.

    ReplyDelete
  16. For sheer entertainment value, I really think you should pick a WCW PPV from the 90's. I speculate that the train wreck aspect will make it fun..

    ReplyDelete
  17. They did Starcade 1997 on Saturday

    ReplyDelete
  18. THREADJACK!~

WWE stock up over 13% on no news.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Batista = investor confidence DEAL WITH IT!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Even more reason to give the fans the middle finger.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wait, I might be mixing up my sexual terms but isn't a cockhold husband a guy who wants his wife to get railed by other men? Like they get off on that fact? At least that's what I thought the cuckhold word meant.

This is coming from somebody who's been cheated on and has been the "other guy", I never got super pissed off at the guy. I thought he was an asshole but my anger went mostly to her. I would only be super pissed at the guy if it was a friend of mine.

    ReplyDelete
  22. World Heavyweight Championship - Triple H vs. Batista
WWE Championship - JBL vs. John Cena
Sumo Match - Big Show vs. Akebono
Piper's Pit - Special Guest, Stone Cold

Women's Championship Match - Trish Stratus vs. Christy Hemme (w/ Lita)
Legend vs. Legend Killer - Undertaker vs. Randy Orton
"Money In The Bank" Ladder Match - Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Edge vs. Christian vs. Kane. Winner earns future World heavyweight Title shot.
    Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero

  23. I asked Bayless to pick a WWE PPV since Xbox users can't get WCW/ECW PPVs yet.

    ReplyDelete
  24. WWE: "Everytime the fans bitch, they make Vince McMahon rich."

    ReplyDelete
  25. Cool. I think I've just been watching too many WCW shows today and I want to be able to share in my pain...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Huh, sounds like a solid card. If it doesn't win maybe us night owls and west coasters can watch this after the winner.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Nope, the Xbox app only has WWE PPVs, the only WCW PPVs I can seem to get are Great American Bashs and ECW just One Night Stands and Hardcore TV. I'm hoping they fix that issue soon but right now I'm just happy it's working.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I just finished WM5, so 6 is the next logical progression for me.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can't participate in this one tonight, but I would recommend for your own sanity not watching WM VI. It's basically four hours of tedium followed by a blow away main event. Seriously, it is torture to sit through. A bad card like Starrcade 97 is at least normal length, but VI just goes on and on and on and on.

    And on.

    And on.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It was literally yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  31. For the image of Big Show in the Sumo get-up alone, WM21 should be banned forever.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I thought so... I guess I tell stories so well people want to hear them multiple times.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Now I'm worried I voted wrong, damn!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I voted for 14.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It was my idea, I thought it might be cool to see how a Live PPV Thread goes on a weekday. Also it's for people who are normally doing things on Saturday nights.

    ReplyDelete
  36. "Also it's for people who are normally doing things on Saturday nights"

    lol...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday should have em IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I feel like the atmosphere of the SkyDome and the Monsoon/Jesse commentary makes up for some of the lackluster matches.

    ReplyDelete
  39. My favorite thing about Starrcade 1997 is that the VHS box said "Starrcade 1998" on it.

    http://www.amazon.com/WCW-Starrcade-1997-VHS/dp/0780622170

    ReplyDelete
  40. And why on a night when actual live wrestling is airing?

    ReplyDelete
  41. "Also it's for people who are normally doing things on Saturday nights"

Implying there are those.... who normally arent doing things on saturday nights.

    Lol

    ReplyDelete
  42. People should be doing things on a Saturday, not sitting on a forum.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thread jack:

Roberto Luongo traded to the Panthers

    ReplyDelete
  44. Who are you to judge? It's a lot better than getting drunk and acting like a bafoon.

    ReplyDelete
  45. So Florida has Luongo and Thomas.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You know you've been watching too much WWE Network when you start looking for the "10 sec rewind" button when you're watching regular tv shows.

    ReplyDelete
  47. O/T: Raw's rating last night was lower than last week.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Wasn't last week Hogan, UT, and Lesnar's returns? I can't remember.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yes, but this number from yesterday could prove that no one wants to see Bryan vs. HHH or Batista vs. Orton or even Lesnar vs. Taker.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Cuz of the subtlety and delivery in which I read it.

    It gave me a chuckle.

And moreso cuz of your inquition.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Last Saturday night I mopped my basement twice. That's a thing, and I was doing it. I was doing something!

    ReplyDelete
  52. How does it "prove" any of that?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Some people on here have kids and don't to get out to often.

    ReplyDelete
  54. This blog is me doing things!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Further, I wonder how much fans would still love him and clamor for his push if WWE had given their stamp of approval and shot him to the moon. I had the thought when they started using the "Yes Movement" phrase that Bryan's appeal could fade if WWE signs off and actually makes Bryan The Guy.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yep. "Smarks" can be similar to "hipsters" in that way. The ones that automatically prefer Indy films over Hollywood and think any band that gets play on radio is "too mainstream".

    ReplyDelete
  57. And Vancouver now has neither Schneider nor Luongo. That's some good GMing there, Lou.

    ReplyDelete
  58. It's not bad, it's pretty wonderful for what is essentially a Master's Thesis film.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yes. That's the difference this time. Daniel Bryan and CM Punk are the most popular guys with smarks and "mainstream" fans alike. Its' not the late 90s "push Benoit!" niche crowd this time

    ReplyDelete
  60. A contender for best promo of all of history ever and a blowaway main event, I would say.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I started watching South Park a couple of years ago,by far the Batdad episode is the best. From a more social commentary perspective the episode where Butters goes to a Bible camp is great too.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yeah, the Cena-Punk MITB classic was 2011. And the theme was indeed awesome for that opening pop

    ReplyDelete
  63. If WM6 wins, just FF to the main event

    ReplyDelete
  64. Fuck this show for what it did to red headed people. I'm not a red head but seriously fuck this show. I remember a news report about a red headed kid getting kicked because it was "kick a ginger" day. Fuck South Park.

    ReplyDelete
  65. For sure. It's a clean HHH win after pedigree. I think the run comes in where Bryan is allowed to be carried out by paramedics instead of stretchered out

    ReplyDelete
  66. You might say they now lack those options

    ReplyDelete
  67. You guys want a Main Event Thread

    ReplyDelete
  68. As a fat kid who had to deal with countless Cartman related jokes, I understand.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I wonder if they realize that the "smarks" are influencing the "casuals". At first, it might of been to just jump on the bandwagon to feel included for the casuals, but I think they're finally putting two and two together.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hey, if the narrative fits!

    ReplyDelete
  71. The date on these Legends of Wrestling... it says this one on factions is from 2012, but it's got Tazz and Mean Gene comments on Tazz being new to the announce team.

    ReplyDelete
  72. AWA, Smoky Mountain, and USWA need to come the Network pronto.

    ReplyDelete
  73. That's my fear. Subscription services like netflix typically have a hard time growing after a specific point also. It's a shame because they have a built in marketing tool (Raw) to drive fans to the network but the current product is so "meh" I doubt it will do that

    ReplyDelete
  74. This is a really interesting thought.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Sure took them a while to get around to making fun of Facebook... pro wrestling too for that matter.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I hear you but that episode was fantastic

    ReplyDelete
  77. Don't get me wrong, I HOPE it works out well. It's just something I can see being an issue in the not-so-distant future. Stuff like Netflix can exist in perpetuity because there is a wide variety of stuff to add and basically an infinite supply of movies, shows, etc to keep it somewhat fresh. Hulu benefits from airing a big variety of TV shows the day after they air. WWE has opened the whole vault assuming that there is enough content to keep fans subscribing perpetually. I have not subscribed and do not plan on it, but I can easily see myself tiring of it and cancelling after a year or two. You can only-rewatch the good PPVs so many times, I'm thinking. Sure, there is some nostalgia in the old WCW and ECW shows, but once you are reminded of how bad some things were, I think the novelty wears off

    ReplyDelete
  78. Except WWE doesn't realize that plenty of people have indeed stopped watching their product after such disasters as the InVasion, Triple H's 2002-03 run, Chris Benoit, and the Nexus. Soon we can add the long term effects of Summer of Punk and Summer of Bryan to the list.

Yeah, some people will hate everything regardless, but when you take off the smark glasses few things still make sense. Randy Orton is talented and over. However, hes also 34 with a history of shoulder problems, has violated a joke of a drug policy twice, and was named in a steroid bit alongside a bunch of other wrestlers. Why is this guy a top guy? He should be making top guys. Why was Edge holding a championship belt before his departure? He was old and clearly one bad neck injury away from permanent retirement, and he wasn't putting over Del Rio on the grandest stage of them all when Del Rio was a guy they WANTED to push! Why is John Cena not being transitioned to a gatekeeper role when hes 37 and has suffered time-taking injuries three years running? Why aren't the company trying to grow more new, watchable stars outside of Reigns and maybe Cesaro and Big E? Why is the company ethos about physique when we see regular examples of boxers and MMArtists not needing to be supremely ripped to be considered awesomely talented? Why is the company ethos about star quality when at least 4 of the 10 best Hollywood actors in the world aren't there because appearance?

"But Bret, you're just a smark that knows nothing about the wrestling business." Gee, wonder if WCW said the exact same thing to their internet fans in 1997. Luckily enough WWE's death will be slower because they only do 15% of the stupid things WCW did (if that), and don't have to deal with any serious competition, but if this company does not get its collective shit together it will die before Vince does unless they hax the Network to a million point two subscribers. I may know nothing about the business, but how venomous towards WWE's booking would Jim Ross and Mick Foley be on truth serum? Or are we to insinuate neither of those guys know anything?

............Come to think of it, I wonder how many 12 year olds WWE caters to got smartened to the business yesterday after googling and youtubing reasons as to why the crowd was chanting CM Punk all night only for him to not show up? Cause its not like WWE goes on to alienate their PG fanbase once they grow up to find wrestling is fake, stupid and/or uncool, right? Oh wait.

You know what? They deserve every bad thing they get. If their rating dips to a 2.0, then something will give and then we see the change.

    ReplyDelete
  79. "Bart Simpson should be in his early 30s..."

Holy shit! I've never thought about it but fuck do I now feel old.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Some things are true regardless of what company you're working for.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Let the rebuild commence.

I'll shed no tears for them.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Which I can only hope happens. Let the giant fall, and let the territory system crop up again. I think that is, bar none, the ONLY way we're ever going to get quality, well done, and responsive wrestling angles again. The "Nest of Nepotism" that the WWE has become under HHH/Steph has to die out before anything even close to the glory days of red hot crowds and mega over wrestlers (who aren't subjected to being made to kneel and scrape at the feet of H and Steph) happens again.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Watched 6 and 14 recently. Gotta go 21 here.

    ReplyDelete
  84. It did sound like his classic "I'm not wrong either way" style though. He reports that Punk is coming back, but says it might not be true... Talk about being covered.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I agree with Farva and ATL. Let "Mania" be the Pro Bowl of Wrestling for all I care, if the other 11 months out of the year are devoted to well done, quality storylines and elevating new talents.

    ReplyDelete
  86. If the guy didn't know she was married, it's hard to lay blame on him.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Worst_in_the_WorldMarch 4, 2014 at 5:03 PM

Exactly. The longterm success of the Network-- hell, longterm being after the first 6-12 months honestly--- will revolve around whether fans want to pay for the new content. It's all about subscribing to the monthly PPVs.

The archive is probably a huge selling point for a small percentage of the fans, especially once they get through that first cycle and watch most of the old stuff that they were really looking forward to.

It's funny, WWE's obsessed with shitting on the smark superfans, and then they put out a super costly important-to-their-future product that is meant to appeal to those fans. How much of their audience do they think really gives a shit that Battlebowl '91 is now available? Nobody cares.

The new content is what this thing is gonna live or die based on.

    ReplyDelete
  88. How do we feel about the Hogan/Slaughter Dessert Storm Match from MSG?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Worst_in_the_WorldMarch 4, 2014 at 5:07 PM

He didn't report "Punk was coming back." He said this is what somebody he usually trusts told him, and then he gave his own opinion on what that source said.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Anyone having an issue while watching on PC/Mac where the video just like, reloads back 10 seconds? Probably not explaining it right, but that's the gist of it.

    ReplyDelete
  91. If the source wasn't reliable, he shouldn't have reported it at all. I stick by my "covered both ways" comment.

    ReplyDelete
  92. You can tell everyone s age by choosing 6 over 21. 21 is in the top 10 of best manias of all time

    ReplyDelete
  93. You're funny man

    ReplyDelete
  94. The shorts started in 88 or 89 I think? And he's always been 10, so he's a 78 or 79 baby.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Like I said, I want to like it. It seems like people really enjoy it, it just doesn't reach me at all for whatever reason. It's like Beck, people seem to dig him, wish I could get in on it for the shared experience but...eh...I just turn it off.

I don't dislike the show, I'm just apathetic to it.

    ReplyDelete
  96. His schtick seems to be that his stage persona is the world's biggest misogynist, so... kinda? He got in trouble last year (I think? Maybe 2012) when a woman at one of his shows said from the front row "rape jokes are never funny," to which he replied with something to the effect of "wouldn't it be hilarious if that woman was brutally gang raped after saying that?"

    ReplyDelete
  97. For real, that sounds like a prime "I'm not going to get laid this summer anyway might as well do this" activity right there. God bless the free time of youth.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Oh yeah. All you folks who are screaming that the WWE is saying Fuck Uok to their viewers, obviously never watched Lost to the end. This WWE shit? Amateur hour by comparison.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Why? Wonderboy is an overrated hack.

    ReplyDelete
  100. As Punk said, "Vince McMahon is a millionaire who should be a billionaire"

    ReplyDelete
  101. Magnum TA goes full redneck when talking about "the Orientals" while announcing Chi-Town Rumble.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I voted 21, I thought it was relevant with Batista - Triple H in the main event plus I have been meaning to re-watch HBK - Angle for some time.

    ReplyDelete
  103. It's just bad branding. Why spite the fans who stick with the product through its lapses in pop-culture relevance? Or the ones who'll actually buy your new network?

There's no payoff right now that's bringing in new fans. There's nothing new and interesting, nothing different or controversial. Petuka said that yesterday--a lot more eloquently--and it's absolutely true.

The closest things--Summer of Punk and the Yes phenomenon--get neutered before they can really get going. Without new fans coming in, Vince is stuck with the fanbase he's got. And that fanbase is getting pissed.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Yep. This company is doing new revenue streams, but it's like squeezing the last remaining juice out of a lemon and there being no new lemons coming in to fill up a glass.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Let's build a snowman! We can make him our best friend!

    ReplyDelete
  106. I prefer Keller

    ReplyDelete
  107. Stranger in the AlpsMarch 4, 2014 at 7:18 PM

Welcome back, Fuj. That is all.

    ReplyDelete
  108. "Mommy, what's a bottom-feeding trash bag ho?"

    ReplyDelete
