The Network's initial subscriber count is 667,000 and stock is dropping like a rock. And not the awesome kind. It's still a very respectable number, but obviously all the people buying up the stock were counting on a million.
So if 700,000 people in North America have the network, that's not gonna leave much for the buyrate for WM, I'd assume.
Time to get Raw on the network?
ReplyDeleteWe all know that the real reason these people are divesting is because the Undertaker's streak was broken.
ReplyDeletePossibly. They just lost a lot of leverage in negotiations for a new TV deal.

ReplyDeleteSeriously though, a $6+ drop in stock price is just nasty any way you want to spin it.
ReplyDeleteThat 1M number was always pretty optimistic by my estimation. I'm surprised that it's that high, actually.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't optimistic, it was what they said they needed to hit to make money off of it.
ReplyDeleteYour average TV exec is smart enough to know when a stock is overvalued.
ReplyDeleteBryan must really be a B+ player.
ReplyDelete1 million by the end of the year, not by WM, was the goal.
ReplyDeleteI know. And I always found the idea that they would hit it to be optimistic.
ReplyDeleteThey could potentially do it with international subs, but is there much room for domestic growth?
ReplyDeleteSeems that way.
ReplyDeleteBREAKING UPDATE:
ReplyDeleteWidely-known overvalued stock no longer overvalued.
I think you're overestimating the average TV exec.
ReplyDeleteYou may be right.
ReplyDeleteYou're fired.
ReplyDeleteJust rewatched the UT/Lesnar ending again. I will say this, finally the announcers got it right. Cole said "The streak is over." and then they all shut up for a few minutes to let the shocking aspect sink in. The murmurs going through the crowd were amazing. I think a weak bullshit chant got started, but quickly died out.
ReplyDeleteI just watched the whole match, yeah, that single leg takedown led to the matches downfall.
ReplyDeleteAnd the look of the crowd when the match was over was priceless.
Thanks Brock!
ReplyDeleteThe Rock's appearance was a holy shit moment for me. The glass breaking for Austin's intro was surprising but he was hyped to be there. I never saw The Rock coming.
ReplyDeleteMy 7-year-old self reacted the same way when Slaughter beat Warrior for the title. It's funny to look back on it now and laugh. When you grow up, you'll look back on this and laugh.
ReplyDeleteClearly I meant during the wrestlemania era.
ReplyDeleteYour fired.
ReplyDeleteYeah, today's posts should bring us almost to Survivor Series '93. We're not up to '94 yet.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I have to say, for as much shit as we give Cole, his call of "The Streak........is over." was great. You could hear real shock and disbelief in his voice.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to watching Mania on the Network. I was there live and am just now getting a chance to post some of my (very random) thoughts:
ReplyDelete-Lilian Garcia got a huge pop (first "name" to come out). Then all of the announcers and the pre-show match got a good reaction, as the crowd was energized.
-The opening segment was great live - the crowd was legit surprised by Austin and the Rock coming out. Austin got the biggest pop of the three.
-There were some loud Triple H fans during the Bryan match, but most of the audience was in on the "Yes" chants. The coolest thing about my trip to New Orleans was that from Wednesday through Sunday, you would find large groups of people breaking into "Yes" chants on Bourbon Street.
-I was somewhere in the upper-section, and folks were just NOT into the Taker/Lesnar match. People were texting, etc. and just stopped paying attention. Some folks were talking about how Taker just looked old and needed to retire, others were talking about how the build-up has just been so awful, and no one seemed emotionally invested as they all thought Taker would win. Even when Lesnar hit him with that final F-5, I did not bite into that as the finish. So we were all in complete shock when the match ended. People just didn't know what to think. There was a "bullshit" chant and then we went into the "Undertaker" and "Thank you, Taker" chants. Still, a lot of fans were just so shocked and/or pissed that they didn't join in the Taker chants. This obviously carried into the Diva's Championship match and a bit into the World Title match.
-In the end, Daniel Bryan won the fans back. The Batista Bomb/Neckbreaker combo really go folks back into it. Fans did the "Yes" chants for quite a bit--most folks left the arena very satisfied.
Overall, I do think this Mania was one of the greats. Funny that if Bryan had lost the main event, it would be considered one of the worst. My guess is that Bryan will be dropping the title to Lesnar by Summer Slam, but I am incredibly happy as a Bryan fan for what happened last night.
That was fine. Screaming over the corner YES! chant in Bryan's entrance both times sucked on ice. And they CONSTANTLY do it, lol, I can't believe someone hasn't told those guys to let the audience be heard at that point.
ReplyDeleteYup correction: I've watched all the 93 RAWs that have been uploaded thus far. They are being uploaded at a glacially slow pace, about 1 new episode every 2-3 days.
ReplyDeleteYeah I'm not sure how it would work, but I'm rather peeved at how slowly they are adding content. Obviously they don't want to give away the farm right off the bat, but I thought they would be adding several new RAW episodes daily instead of 1 measly episode every 2-3 days.
ReplyDelete"unpredictability" is worthless if it doesn't make sense. and obviously a lot of people feel like that about Taker vs. Lesnar.
ReplyDeleteexaggerated example: El Torito beating Daniel Bryan on tonights Raw to become the champion would be "unpredictable" - but also stupid.
apples and oranges. that would have been like Taker putting over Cena a few years ago - which would have been fine.
ReplyDeleteas mentioned so often: Undertaker vs. Cena. "I quit" match.
ReplyDelete= no one would have an idea who would win.
I'm willing to let things play out and see where they go, on this. It's literally the day after, before RAW. This still has every chance to be 'fine'.
ReplyDeleteHow does Lesnar beating Undertaker not make sense? Within the context of a story, they signed for a match, spent a few weeks building to it (regardless of the weakness of the build, they still built to it), had the match, and the bad guy won, ending the streak. Makes sense to me.
ReplyDeleteI just hope they go somewhere with Lesnar. I'd book Lesnar to be Triple H's new hired goon and have him beat the living shat out of Bryan tonight. HHH books Lesnar vs. Bryan at Extreme Rules where Bryan loses the strap. Bryan wins it back at Summerslam.
ReplyDeleteBray Wyatt's entrance was absolutely spectacular. Best ever. EVER.
ReplyDeleteHe lost a match. He's not dead.
ReplyDeleteJumping on the badnwagon of a wrestling company with no TV deal? Rather dumb on your part.
ReplyDeleteYou're wrong. I will. Don't speak for everybody.
ReplyDeleteGlobal Force Wrestling is on the way...to obscurity.
ReplyDeleteFIFY.
Really cheap, inexpensive, no name wrestlers.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how the start of GFW signifies the end of TNA but if you say so, Nostradamus. *ROLLS EYES*
ReplyDeleteFinally getting around to watching Elimination Chamber from this year. Did Scott ever review this one?
ReplyDeleteHas the network been acting wonky for anybody? Live stream works fine but I can't load anything.
