WWE Countdown Top Tag Teams

I just watched WWE Countdown's Top 10 Tag Teams and a couple of things bothered me. First of all: how can there be a top ten list on the greatest tag teams and it not include either The Midnight Express or The Rock-N-Roll express? Hell, WWE's entire tag team formula has been based off of Rock-N-Roll express matches for ages.  And secondly: why is it that when WWE talks about Demolition they always have to be called a Road Warriors ripoff, yet they never mention how The Rockers are a more blatant Rock-N-Roll Express ripoff?

Because the Rockers aren't constantly suing WWE and badmouthing them, whereas Bill Eadie certainly is.  Plus Countdown is not exactly the most well thought-out or well researched show they offer.  It's great when it's doing goofy shit like the Worst Gimmicks or Biggest Fails or stuff like that, but everything else seems to be recycled DVD footage.

  1. it's so weird to think about how much that would have changed later WrestleManias.

  2. Didn't that get shot down recently? I might be remembering wrong, but I thought I read recently that it wasn't true.

  3. Rebook the invasion this time with HBK in the mix!!!

  4. I don't think 'Taker's win was really "flushed down", as Austin and HHH's only major feud as the Power Trip was with the BOD.

  5. The way I recall it, it was supposed to be Shawn vs. HHH at 17, HHH vouched for him, Shawn showed up at a Raw to start the build and was pilled off his ass, so they shitcanned the idea and HHH basically volunteered to job to Taker as a receipt for vouching for Shawn when Shawn was in no condition to wrestle.

  6. Right, yeah, I was reading the e-mail wrong.

  7. I was always curious about this because at the time it was talked about as if he was returning to wrestle, but he makes no mention of that in his book. It was discussed having HHH face Mike Tyson and Hogan to so I doubt there were long term firm plans.

  8. It was voted on by fans, so you're poking your finger in the wrong direction.

Most WWE fans have never heard of the RnR and Midnights. And, frankly... there's no reason to expect they should. They were NWA guys through and through.

  9. HBK was supposed to show up on the RAW before X-7 but got pulled for time because of the WCW stuff and he also showed up to RAW pilled up.

He showed up to Smackdown, again pilled up, and was sent home.

HHH was always going to job to Undertaker and they were going to set up an HHH v. HBK feud based on HBK costing him the match.

  10. Never heard about that before, but that's pretty insane. Maybe Shawn really was THAT fucked up, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yea, he had major problems at the time. This period also led to his estrangement from Triple H

    ReplyDelete
  12. I still say they should've had an extended feud with the Hardys. One can dream, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It's in Jericho's second book.

Jericho tried to explain he was dressed like Doink only for one segment and Shawn couldn't even understand him

    ReplyDelete
  14. I always thought that HBK was supposed to interfere and cost HHH the match, setting up a HHH/HBK feud

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah on that "Biggest Blunders" countdown, they voted the "Million Dollar Giveaway" number one and all the superstars basically say on the program that Shockmaster should have topped the list.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Where'd you hear/read this.

It's been pretty common knowledge that HBK was supposed to do something at X7 but I always thought the plan was for him to interfere, cost HHH the UT match, setting up the inevitable HHH/HBK feud

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yea, that was always going to be the plan

    ReplyDelete
  18. What do you mean Bill Eadie is suing them?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Wasn't the Taker/Triple H match itself kind of last minute? Not as last minute as Benoit/Angle but I seem to remember only Taker challenging Triple H after he was complaining about not being in the main event despite beating everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Nope. You're wrong. Again.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I wonder how the rest of 2001 - early 2002 goes if HBK comes back at X7 and starts the HHH vs HBK program.

Do we still get the 2 man power trip or is Austin the top heel working with someone and HHH is the #2 heel working with a face HBK? Do they go back to an Austin/HBK feud with HBK being the face? Does Angles ascension take a little longer?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Great analysis...Again.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The match was always going to be HHH/UT. The build was supposed to start earlier but HBK showed up to Raw too fucked up to start the angle. So the angle we saw was a backup they literally wrote on the fly a week or two after the HBK thing fizzled out.

  24. HHH's steroid use causes his muscles to fall off the bone like an tender set of ribs either way and he misses that timeframe either way.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Angle was never supposed to be champion. That happened due to 9/11. Were you alive back then?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm suddenly craving BBQ sauce

    ReplyDelete
  27. Its not my fault youre a fucking idiot

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nope. That is completely false. Shawn was in no condition to start the HHH Taker angle.

HBK was supposed to be the ref for that match.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Where did u say he was ever supposed to be champion? Dude you're fucking retarded. Try and follow a thought process...Angle gets the belt because of 9/11...yes, that's pretty common knowledge. But if Shawn comes back it fills a roster spot ahead of Angle...maybe Angle never GETS the opportunity because he's pushed down the card in 2001.

Multi stepped thought process isn't really your thing, is it? "Wee network sucks, derp derp." Go back to that

    ReplyDelete
  30. Lol. Great facts to back up your point.

"Wwe network isn't good. Derp derp derp." Stick to that

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't know if I would have missed the streak. It would have made Takers matches even more exciting, because you wouldn't have know that he wins anyway. Despite he lost his last match. ;-)

I understood what you were saying if it's any conciliation. If Angle is still in the mid card at that time they might not put the title on him 9/11 or not. So why does this big nasty guy hate you so much Farva? He just being a troll or did you fuck his mother and not call her the next day?

    ReplyDelete
  33. He's an idiot. Look at his posts, no analysis, insights, or facts about anything. He's just jealous of people with an educational level above grade 4

    ReplyDelete
  34. More important question. Does Stephanie still try and make the 911 tragedy about her on national TV if Shawn came back? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  35. No Quebecers? No legitimacy to the list.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You're not supposed to talk about that. Only how heroic he was for finishing the match and thus making all those injured in the future look like pussies if they fail to finish a match severely injured

    ReplyDelete
  37. Haha don't argue ... its never worth it.
