WWE Drops the Developmental Hammer

I dunno if this has anything to do with the investor's call tomorrow, but they decided to drop Mason Ryan just to be on the safe side.  Which is weird because they have been literally not firing anyone ever and just letting guys ride out their contracts (JTG, Tatsu, Ryder) no matter how much of a lost cause they are.  Ryan in particular got a million chances and was even talked about as replacing Roman Reigns in the Shield when the split was going to happen.  Oliver Grey got SQUASHED by Camacho in his big return after months off, so obviously they were getting rid of him.  Either way, weird timing to just suddenly jettison a bunch of super-cheap guys like that.

  1. Can we TJ this to Wild/Avs thread? Lets go Wild!

  2. Just the usual post Wrestlemania talent cuts. Grey and Burch were pretty decent from the little I saw of them but oh well. I'm a bit scared to see Ryan in Tna now though as I kind of think of him as the worst wrestler I've seen in years.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Scott, what are your thoughts on Shaul Guerrero being cut (again)? With Vickie still working as Smackdown GM, is this more her wanting to be let go, her not having a passion for her parents' business or just that she flat-out doesn't have what it takes?
Because it seems like they could have easily made her into a legacy Diva, either paying tribute to her father or even being backup for her mother if Vickie confronted another Diva.

    ReplyDelete
  4. 1st time she left to go back to school, who knows what it was this time, probably just didn't have the passion.

    ReplyDelete
  5. They just had a tryout camp last month and another one is coming up in May so no big deal here, really. Just cutting guys who were never going to amount to anything to make rooms so they can sign others

    ReplyDelete
  6. Mister_E_Studd_Got100ProblemsApril 30, 2014 at 9:08 PM

Just making room for newbies by cutting the were-never-gonna-be's.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Ryder would fit in well at some goofier indies.

    Chikara fpr example.

For seriousness, he could make a name for himself in PWG

    ReplyDelete
  8. They tied it. 2-2

KINGD TIE IT. HISTORY COULD BE MADE

    ReplyDelete
  9. Working NXT house shows as Becky Lynch. I imaging she's part of the wave of women who will be getting called up to TV with Paige and Emma moved up to Raw.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I just read that Oprah is considering buying the Clippers? So they're a celebrity cause now?

If the Clippers are forced to be put on sale, there's plenty of regular people who would be interested as if they were put on sale under normal circumstances. Oprah suddenly wanting to buy them is just Oprah trying to promote Oprah.

    ReplyDelete
  11. This. Probably gave it one more go, decided it wasn't for her and moved on.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Tazz, that's... That's Ryan Mason!

    ReplyDelete
  13. You know what this means? More WWE Programming! NXT on twice a week at 2 hours per show!!!

    Yeahhhhhhhh!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Not that weird. Gotta keep the NXT roster under control. You have the guys working just the house shows to get ready for NXT TV, then NXT TV to get ready for Raw. You keep 30 or so guys around for one hour of TV weekly, you aren't getting anybody enough consistent exposure to develop as a performer or a character.

You end up with a show full of go-nowhere half-cooked jobbers who are never and will never be ready for prime time. You end up with Impact.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I wonder if TNA would ever try to just use a WWE name. Worst that happens is a lawsuit, right? Which would make TNA seem like competition to an extent. Give them some publicity if they were smart about it? Or would the WWE ignore it for someone as low on the totem pole as Ryan?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Don't forget Global Force!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Mason Ryan's push represents everything wrong with WWE. They need to stop showcasing these guys who only have the look but no substance before they get a chance to actually develop it. Their current method never works.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Perfect,that's my vision.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm not sure how you can call it their "current" method when Ryan's last push was over two years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Magoonie NOT Teddy BelmontApril 30, 2014 at 9:50 PM

This is going to sound harsh but I think it's time for WWE to do some major house cleaning. Get Stephanie a duster and a vacume and put her to work. After that they need to just clear out a good majority of the lower guys and even some mid carders who arent doing anything. Bring up the new guys and start a little fresher.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Their current method has stretched for about a decade, but it's still there. Therefore: current.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Law says you have to vigorously protect your trade marks, so if they ignored some bottom of the totem pole guy they could lose all their trademarks and all of a sudden TNA is running royal rumble ppv.

    ReplyDelete
  23. As long as he doesn't go to TNA because for whatever reason that's signing your WWE certificate of death.

    ReplyDelete
  24. TNA? Is that still a thing?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I thought the "Current" method has been working pretty well.

The Shield and the Wyatt Family are pretty good examples. The Ascension should be good when they get called up. Adam Rose might be able to do something as well.

    ReplyDelete
  26. You gotta do it. It will probably go 7

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't see Ryder as a lost cause, never did. They just don't want to push him. That's two completely different things. And no, Ryder is not world champion material but they can find time for him on a three hour show.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wait, what did Mason Ryan do? Cut him to be on the safe side?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I really don't know what their deal with that guy is. He must be really bad at shaking people's hands or something.

    ReplyDelete
  30. He was really bad.

    ReplyDelete
  31. And investors might be upset if a guy with below average skills doesn't get cut? Sounds more like legal issues or something.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I guess you can say they were nice enough to let him ride on the contract, but what did he do that was so awful to get yanked from tv? He was over, that's 93% of the battle right there.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't think we've fully established that it has anything to do with the investor conference call yet.

Or maybe the guy's been trading insider stock tips, who knows. Bound to happen at some point.

    ReplyDelete
  34. MINNISOTA TIED IT AGAIN.

    4 TIMES GOD DAMN!

    ReplyDelete
  35. You might say it's been a "Wild game"!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah pretty much this. Personally the Wyatt's and Shield debuts almost entirely makes up for the last 5 years or so.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I imagine it's pretty much like any other business, if you don't suck the right dicks, you don't go to the top.

    ReplyDelete
  38. KINGS UP 3-1

    COULD THEY ACTUALLY DO IT!?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Seriously, this is one of the biggest non-Leafs chokejobs I've ever seen in sports.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Should Sharks fans even be surprised at this point? I mean, this series is basically the Sharks franchise in microcosm.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Maybe if Zach Ryder did not whine at every opportunity then maybe he would have gotten a bigger push.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't follow Basket ball, but I'm at this sports restaurant in Canada and the raps are on one tv. I looked at the begining of the meal, tied at 40.

I glanced again at the end and the Raptors were winning by like 25 points. I'm guessing Broklyn *almost* made it back?

    ReplyDelete
  43. The Wyatts and Shield are basically the office taking a step back and realizing "you know what, we really screwed up the Nexus. Let's just do the opposite of what we did there and see what happens".

    ReplyDelete
  44. They fought all the way back to lose by two points

    ReplyDelete
  45. Fuck, I know enough about hoops to know that sucks something fierce.

Worse then losing by a goal, or a touchdown. Scoring is so frequent and you lost by one basket

    ReplyDelete
  46. And his friends Lanny Burch and Oliver Silver

    ReplyDelete
  47. I live in Joe Thornton's home town.

I personaly know many small town fans whose hearts are breaking right now. They gonna get to come cry with us Leaf fans soon

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ugh. I hate the Nets

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yeah, the last time I can think of a major chopping block was July 11. Now that they have NXT, I'd have no problem if they cleared their shelf's up a little.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Game 7 OT alert!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Should just have a 5 year contract where if they don't move the needle, they get axed.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think it's a combination of the office and Ryder himself. Like Ziggler he doesn't seem too good at the political stuff we don't get to see. Cesaro is a good example of someone who knows how to work within the WWE system.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Funny how Ryder and Ziggler are friends.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The Sharks always get the expectations of their fans up to a high level and then proceed to dash them.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The Nexus also had the issue of being too big for it's own good at the start.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Why would this be important for the investor call? "Hey investors, we know we haven't inked a TV deal yet, which we have grossly overestimated, and yes, Network subscribers aren't what we want. And yes, DirecTV and Dish are no longer airing our pay-per-views. BUT we just cut Mason Ryan's contract, so we're financially okay!"

    ReplyDelete
  57. MINNISOTA WILD WIN! WILD WIN!

    What a game!

    Sorry Curry.

    ReplyDelete
  58. He probably had some needle marks in areas he shouldn't have had them.

    Like his butt.

    ReplyDelete
  59. The Nexus also had the issue of one really great worker, one decent worker, and a bunch of schlubs to fill it's eight members.

Then the really great worker got cut.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yeah I know quite a few people who will be celebrating Minnesota's victory tonight because of Matt Cooke, regardless of him being suspended and generally kind of a dirty player.

    ReplyDelete

Fucking Avalanche... Fucking pricks, you're not the ones that have to do with me for the next 2 months, show some consideration to my friends and co-workers. Assholes...

    ReplyDelete
  62. May I ask who you thought the decent worker was? I'd argue Barrett, Gabriel, and Slater were in that category to start.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Empty netter.

Kings Ice it, fourth team to come back from 3-0 out of 176 attempts

    ReplyDelete

    Piss off. FUCK!

    ReplyDelete
  65. BREAKING NEWS : San Jose to rename franchise to "San Jose Chokes"

    ReplyDelete
  66. They don't even have to change the logo, because it looks like a shark choking on a hockey stick.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Has anyone seen the BNB twitter that trolls fans after they lose a series? Adam Curry, you might not want to look

    ReplyDelete
  68. "He smiles and portrays himself as humble and grateful for his fans so they'll continue to make him rich, but in reality he's a little prick who acts how he has to act to make money."

    You know the guy personally?

It's Twatter, don't worry, I'm not looking. And eat a pallet of dicks, you cocksucker!

I'm sorry, that was a little out of line. I'm kind of drunk and in a REALLY bad mood right now. Fucking motherfuckers...

    ReplyDelete
  70. No worries man. I don't like the Avs or the Wild so I really don't care.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryApril 30, 2014 at 11:00 PM

I am known for not being the most pleasant guy to be around when my hockey team loses. Being from Buffalo, this is considered kind of normal, except I'm not a Sabres fan...

First asshole, male or female, that even mentions that game when I get to work tomorrow is getting punched in the crotch.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I had a friend who is a Canucks fan and everytime they got eliminated, he acted like someone murdered his dog in front of him and he vowed to never watch again. Yep...

    ReplyDelete
  73. No, I'm pretty sure Shaul was just cut this time unlike when she asked for her release. She's seemed excited about her WWE return on Twitter and Instagram lately.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I was referencing Gabriel.

I honestly didn't think much of Barrett outside of his mic skills originally and never been too high on Slater.

    ReplyDelete
  75. San Jose couldn't beat the Sacramento Kings in a hockey match tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryApril 30, 2014 at 11:11 PM

Oh, I'll still watch. But if someone even goes so far as to mention John Tenta a bitch-slapping is the best case scenario.

FUCKING GOD DAMNIT! How are the Blue Jays doing? (sees their 12-15, and Tony Stewart is like 23rd in the NASCAR standings) FUCK! Fuck sports... Motherfuckers...

    ReplyDelete
  77. She was cut because she is ugly.

However...has WWE ever had a masked Diva since The Spider Lady? That's a niche she could have filled nicely!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Didn't they straight up say Mike Knox when he debuted?

    ReplyDelete
  79. They have a lot of goofy foam fists and headbands to clear out of inventory first.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I....don;t see what you did there?

    ReplyDelete
  81. That guy that had his back broken by Vader?

    ReplyDelete
  82. https://twitter.com/HistoricalBNB/with_replies

    Wade Barrett would be honored.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Aww, I'm sorry. I'm a Leafs fan so I really, really know how it feels.

    ReplyDelete
  84. He shows up for award shows and appearances all smiles and humble, in the meantime he's a cocky arrogant prick in any another report of his appearance. I mean, come on, you're defending Justin Beiber?

    ReplyDelete
  85. As an Ovechkin fan who constantly has to argue that him not having won a Stanley Cup isn't proof that he's a prick who only plays for money, I love that we're on year 8 of Good Old Canadian Boy Joe Thornton losing again.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Heads better fucking roll.

It's one thing to run out of gas during a close series, but to give up a 3-0 series lead AND NOT CAPITALIZE ON 7 FUCKING POWER PLAYS IN A GAME 7 IS INEXCUSABLE!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Nash/HHH HIAC is better than HBK/HHH HIAC, IMO

(wow, that's a lot of acronyms)

    ReplyDelete
  88. That was a bit ridiculous, they did two Last Man Standing matches, then the blow-off was a regular match.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I'm guessing you've been playing F1? If so, you have my sympathy. That Monaco GP is rock-solid.

Wish I could just skip it and take the loss. I'll make up the points at Montreal and Spa. Monza too, that's like an automatic win for me.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Don't worry, Michael Tarver will be back soon.

    ReplyDelete
  92. But I'm sure it's expected of you to be that way on social media.

It's certainly happened before, but with the way HHH has really cleaned up the developmental process, I don't think they would have reinvented her and Baron Corbin and done new promo photos for a new gimmick if they were planning on shitcanning her a week later.

  99. As I said yesterday morning, I'd have bet a 6 month subscription of the WWE Network on a Kings victory. And I'm a Sharks fan, for fuck's sake. But the moment Game 6 ended, the series was over, for all intents and purposes. Even at home, there was little chance for the Sharks to avoid history.

My thinking is that C-Cup Bella is corrupting him and turning them into the WWE version of Kanye and Kim. It could play out over Total Divas.
This way it makes a heel turn for C-Cup Bella because she will get all the blame and it will spark a heel turn for her. The Bellas needed to split up anyway. B-Cup Bella is becoming WAY more popular than C-Cup Bella.

He came back and got a quickie Hardcore title beating Bossman for it in a second and handing it right to Al Snow, was in the 6 pack challenge and while that WAS a main event world title match on PPV he shared with 5 other guys and Steve Austin being the most Over Man In the Universe at ringside. Dave Boy fought The Rock at No Mercy in a standard match, I think as result of the Dog Poop incident and lost.

I laughed because you had a perfectly good new arena in Newark that was way easier to get to but the Nets went to BK and tried to convince ticket holders in Jersey (yeah, there are season ticket holders) to come to the games out there. Do you know how long it would take to get to that game?

    ReplyDelete
  107. Thanks for that. Obviously I must amend my statement.

She was cut because she's really ugly.

    ReplyDelete
  108. The problem is, once you get to the playoffs, possessions per game tend to shrink, which emphasizes rebounding and defense.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I'm fairly certain it was a sarcastic comment.

    ReplyDelete

  115. I think you have to include Sheffield in that group, too - maybe not the best "worker", but he was definitely over in his role in the same way that Reigns is now.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Just ask Christian, Booker T, Kevin Nash, Xavier Woods, Lance Hoyt...

The WWE will sign guys from TNA if they believe there's an upside. The issue is that the majority of good workers TNA has (yes, all like 3 of them) are on the wrong side of the aging curve and have too little name value to be worth bringing in. The younger guys all either work that spot monkey style that HHH hates or they just aren't that good.
