Best NXT creation ever?

Based on what I saw on NXT Takeover last night, I believe that
Charlotte has to be the greatest wrestler that the NXT developmental
program has ever developed completely from scratch.  Does anybody
else, male or female, even come close?

Dolph Ziggler.  He's still the best they've created from scratch by a mile.

I mean, Charlotte is freakishly gifted and could very well go on to be the greatest woman wrestler ever and stuff, but if you watch her week to week she's still very green and clearly Natalya was the driving force in getting such a great match out of her.  Watching her against someone like Alexa Bliss, for example, shows that she can't carry anyone yet.  But for the level she's at, she's amazing and absolutely deserved to get the title.

Comments

  1. That makes it even weirder why they won't commit to pushing him. They love taking credit for creating guys. And then reminding us every 5 seconds.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Technically, Dolph Ziggler was an OVW creation, not an NXT creation.

    ReplyDelete
  3. What is the list of people that NXT created from scratch? You can't count the Shield, the Wyatts, Sami Zayn, Cesaro and most of the lineup, and I don't know the roster well enough to know where everyone came from.

Anyone ever see that hardcore match with Cheerleader Melissa and some other chick, might have been Del Rey? That match is pretty nuts, though (and call me sexist if you want, not like I give a fuck) I get a little uncomfortable seeing 2 chicks going into the crowd and just bouncing chairs off each other's heads.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Really shows how much Ziggler really puts into people not liking him. He's a workhorse.

Pretty sure Reigns was recruited from college football and never wrestled before WWE picked him up. Pretty much everyone else of note was in ROH at some point, though I think Xavier Woods came over from TNA (he was Consequences Creed, right?).

    ReplyDelete
  8. I watched a deathmatch from Big Japan a while ago that was inter-gender. Now THAT is uncomfortable, seeing a dude smash a light tube across a woman's face.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 9:43 AM

Anyone know what happened to the other 3 Spirit Squad guys? One of them is Ziggler and one of them is ROH's Mike Mondo, but where are the rest of them.

I bet I'm the first person that's EVER bothered to ask this.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yeah, Woods was Creed.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 9:44 AM

I haven't seen any of his WWE work, but I liked him in TNA.

    ReplyDelete
  12. They made a half hearted attempt to push Kenny for a while as Kenny Dykstra (showing that stupid names predate NXT) but just gave up completely one day and got rid of him. I think he may have ran afoul of Randy Orton backstage too, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyway, He's out of the business now and I think the other 2 are as well.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Actually, I've just looked him up, and apparently he's still plugging away on the indies.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think you might be right. I might have just had my Kens mixed up, seeing as Kennedy got turfed b/c of Orton bitching that he was dangerous around the same time.

    ReplyDelete
  15. He's treated like a joke and hasn't had a significant match since the call up.

    ReplyDelete
  16. That's correct. And then Mickie ended up getting casted off for being too pushy with Cena!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Unprotected chairs to the head are horrible to watch now whoever does them though. I don't see why women can't get vicious if it's safe and if it makes sense in the context of the match/feud though, that's what wrestling's about at it's core.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 10:05 AM

So I've heard, which is why I haven't bothered seeing any of his WWE work.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah, i'm pretty jaded, but I had to turn it off when they did the "Broken end of light-tube to forehead" spot.

The last Big Japan match I watched featured one of the guys driving his car to ringside, and brawling with that. I've never seen their variation of the 500 tube match, i'm only familiar with the CZW one were Wife-beater(Such a class name!) hit Nick Mondo with that fucking weed-whacker.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sara,you're awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Right, Kennedy got tossed after a bad back suplex or something.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Her program with Trish not-withstanding, Mickie looks like the type of chick who would be clingy. We used to call girls like that "Lint."

    ReplyDelete
  23. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 10:15 AM

CZW only does 200 light tube matches. Believe me, that shit and the Cage of Death is pretty tame compared to a lot of Big Japan stuff. I forget, what was the garbage promotion from the 90's? I want to say it was either FMW or WAR, but I think that's not right.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm not too familiar. What has he done?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ha, my bad. 200...500....just semantics at that point. Though you gave me some good car crash material to watch later.

And it was FMW. I've long been a fan/horrified bystander of their..."Work"

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ohh, IWA. God, what a piece of shit that promotion was.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 10:22 AM

Nothing that would be a problem in any other line of work, but he's violated the archaic wrestling code many times. I'm frankly shocked he hasn't been shitcanned. Or asked to be let go, might as wee, he has no future in WWE. He needs to take his ass to Japan.

    ReplyDelete
  28. FMW at least brought Hayabusa.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 10:25 AM

FMW was like the Japanese ECW, whereas IWA and BJPW are like CWZ with the volume turned up to 12. FMW at least had some good work in between the garbage, Hyabusa is one of my favorite wrestlers. Or was, anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The Hayabusa & Shinzaki vs RVD Sabu is guilty pleasure.

    ReplyDelete
  31. BJW are now putting some wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeah, i'll concede Hayabusa. Ugh, even thinking about that injury gives me chills.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Big E is also created from scratch. So is the Rotunda boys, Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas. Although technically speaking all the people mentioned all started out in FCW.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Didn't mean to derail with deathmatch talk.

Awesome match, SHIMMER delivers most times.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 10:30 AM

Pretty sure that match is the only time Hayabusa (I call him one of my favorite wrestlers and I can't even spell his fucking name right...) ever wrestled on U.S. soil. And even though it's a shitty spotfest I love that match too, though I'm also a huge Shinzaki fan too. Imagine if those two made it to WCW and had a match with Rey Rey and Juvi. Or a 4-way with them, Rey Rey, and Blitzkrieg.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 10:31 AM

I was going to post a link to the video, but I don't want to see it again.

    ReplyDelete
  37. WCW had great Cruiser roster, too bad they high ups thought they were nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think the girl you're talking is MsChif.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm curious about how much Ziggler makes. He might make enough to tolerate his treatment. Although I do think he is one of those guys who will make good money in the independents and Japanese tours.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I still remember downloading the clip from Kazaa (YEAH) and going "Holy Christ, he had to have died!"

    ReplyDelete
  41. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 10:35 AM

I can't believe Shinzaki never got to WCW. Maybe he just wanted to stay in his own country by then, I'm sure the whole WWF experience soured him on working here. And while the WCW higher-ups were idiots, you have to give them credit for bringing in the cruisers in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  42. ECW was the reason they made the Cruiserweight title in 95/96,Heyman brought Psycosis,Rey,Eddy,Malenko to the US.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 10:38 AM

First time I saw it I nearly puked. Pretty sure that nowadays he has partial use of his legs and can get around with crutches. Crazy that he did that on such a routine spot, though as Jericho said on that A&E doc, you can kill a guy with a hiptoss if you fuck it up bad enough.

    ReplyDelete
  44. And people say being a wrestler is easy.

I take back what I said about her not being attractive. She's pretty fine, it's just the hair that doesn't work for me.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Well, there was that faux pas where he let himself get concussed while holding the title.

Ever watch IWA-MS, the American version? Talk about a two-bit indy... I love the story about how they kicked out of a bingo hall because they didn't clean up all the broken glass and old ladies were cutting up their feet on it.

Here's some clips of (mostly) non-garbage stuff from IWA-MS, set to an awesome Rise Against song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4j-iM1lkV2Q

    ReplyDelete
  52. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 10:48 AM

That's because, as a group, people are stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yeah, I don't know what the salary structure in Japan is, but he's probably making a pretty nice salary in WWE. Unless he knows he has a good deal in place elsewhere, he would be crazy to let that go.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 10:50 AM

True. Heyman also brought in Konnan (though he had briefly worked for both WCW and the WWF before that), once Bischoff got him he basically had exclusive access to Mexican talent.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yeah, I figured it would be along those lines. Maybe he didn't shake someone's hand. Or maybe he shook someone's hand too hard. Maybe he was late for a taping. Or too early. Who knows?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Konnan brought Juvi,Super Calo,Silver King,La Parka.

    ReplyDelete
  57. People start in with the whole "It's fake," bullshit. I've done some wrestling (Nothing on any major scene or anything), and I can't see it is legitimately not fucking easy.

    ReplyDelete
  58. If that site is even remotely close (it does seem outdated) then I doubt Ziggler would have any incentive to leave.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I explained everything for aunt's fiancee,he was schocked,he started to respect wrestlers.

    ReplyDelete
  60. WWE is stupid for letting Hero go.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 10:56 AM

She's a microbiologist? Didn't know that, though I'm pretty sure Veda Scott has a law degree from one of the Ivy League schools. Surprised that WWE never brought MsChif in. Actually, seeing as how they won't even let Del Rey on camera, I'm not surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Having a good womens division would give them a nice PR.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 10:57 AM

Hero is stupid for not getting into shape. And it's not like they can't re-hire him, Daniel Bryan got fired twice, and had a tryout match and got rejected.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Threadjack: Anybody watching the UFC two-fer today? They're actually doing this again next month on the 28th.

These heavyweights are whaaack..no cardio or defense. The lower level Brazilians have UFC potential but the European undercards can be scary bad. Also, really surprised the UFC hasn't done a show in Russia with all the Dagestani fighters. I'd think the upcoming Johnson vs. Bagautinov would have been a good opportunity and they could have added like Nurmagomedov vs. Thomson or someone.

I did some yardie shit when I was a kid, and no, it's not fucking easy. And I HATE the word "fake" when it comes to wrestling. Fixed, sure, but watch... well, I'm sure everyone can come up with their own examples (I'm thinking Rock/Foley) and tell me that shit's fake.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 11:02 AM

I'm always amused at the reaction when I explain blading to people that say it's fake. No, that is in fact real blood...

La Parka was the shit. They missed the boat on him, that dude was over like a motherfucker. And it's horseshit he can't call himself that anymore.

    ReplyDelete

Yeah, I know he's L.A. Park now, but I didn't hear about the feud with La Parka II. I don't really follow lucha, between all the masks and my shitty Spanish it just confuses me, I can't tell what the fuck is going on.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Too much jumping,DG is my limit.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 11:15 AM

What's sad is they have a good women's division employed, they're just not using them right. I watched the Charlotte/Nattie match last night, and while I think people are overrating it, it was really good and easily the best women's match not involving someone from Japan that I've ever seen. So why the fuck was it not on a PPV, or at least Raw?

    ReplyDelete
  76. The salary structure in Japan used to be sweet, best money you could get outside WCW or WWF/E. They hit some hard times though ,and I guess it drastically lowered guys pay-days (as of 2010/2011). I'm certain New Japan has probably rebounded, but it's so hard to find info on this stuff that who knows?

    ReplyDelete
  77. NXT is the"perfect" show,you got wacky character(breeze,Rose),good wrestlers(Pac,Generico) and a nice women's division.

    ReplyDelete
  84. NXT should be a different company, don't let the NXT mix up with the main roster.

  89. Your_Favourite_Buck_NastyMay 31, 2014 at 11:23 AM

he also wasn't from scratch (amateur wrestling background)

    ReplyDelete
  90. I THINK it's supposed to have something to do with the masks giving the guys these amazing abilities, which are most easily showcased through high-flying spot after high-flying spot. Maybe, i'm certainly no expert on it.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  92. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 11:26 AM

I mean instead of having a 3-hour Raw, show NXT from 8 to 9, then do the live Raw from 9-11:15 or whenever they decide to end it. It's complete bullshit that NXT doesn't have a proper TV show. Sorry Vince, but not all of us have a Roku box or whatever, and I'm not trying to watch matches on my tiny Chromebook. Get a real TV show, you pricks.

    ReplyDelete
  93. HMM,nice idea.

  96. Smaller venues look cooler,RAW had some fun shows in the Hammerstein Ballroom.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 31, 2014 at 11:34 AM

So did ECW and ROH. If I were to make a list of greatest wrestling venues I'd probably put the Ballroom at #1.

    ReplyDelete
  98. That and the Tokyo Dome.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Yeah, in doing a bit more reading, it seems most of the psychological aspect of the match is done before it even begins, in the build up. The match is then just used as a technical display of who is the better "Warrior"

Again, if i'm wrong, i'd love to be corrected and get some more insight.

  115. I think I might disagree with Nattie being the "driving force" for that match. I'd likely give more credit to the agent/"producer" of that match or Sara Del Rey. But, hey, maybe Nattie did craft the match or called a lot of it in the ring, I DON'T KNOOWW (tm Lex Luger).

Nattie was chugging it when she ran the ropes, was utterly confused when trying to reverse the figure four (her look of glee and flexing her hips after she did a 360 turn to end up in the same position TWICE is Botchamania worthy), wasn't really responsible for any of the highlights of the match. I think of Nattie's walkover and low dropkick combo in that match and it requires Charlotte to be aware of the precise moment Nattie is going to walkover her, be able to to the splits and create a pancake effect while selling, and then sell the dropkick while still in the semi-splits position. That's ALL Charlotte.

The thing with lucha is that it's opposite of puro, kinda. Like, with puro there's not much storyline, it's just 2 guys beating the shit out of each other because it's what they do. The language barrier there isn't an issue, but with lucha, if you don't know Spanish? Forget it. I mean, I can speak a little Spanish, but I'm nowhere fluent or anything.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Yeah, with Lucha focusing more on the story side of things, knowing the language would have to be a must.

God, we're the nerdiest nerds on a nerd site right now.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Only thing from scratch with him was his awful ring name

    ReplyDelete
  119. No you're don't.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Okay, how about this: I can get behind puro, because I love the style, which drives me to get past the language barries, and to look guys and storylines up. With Lucha, I love the IDEA of the style ,but it often leaves me lacking ,so I don't feel the urge to get up date on it, and then probably derive more enjoyment from the matches, despite not knowing the language.

The DragonGate system is a nice compromise.

There's this asshole across the street from me that has a Mustang and every time he leaves he does a burnout and makes all kind of noise. At 7:00 in the morning. Me and my brother want to go over there and punch him in the face, but we can't, because we'll go to jail and shit.

  135. as mentioned before, I think they realize letting him go would be "leaving money on the table" because he is significantly over despite losing so often and not being more than a jtts anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  136. tweets and interviews in which he criticizes the way he is being booked and sometimes even the WWE in general are not helping either.

    ReplyDelete
  137. To quote parallax, "CENAWINSLOL"

Yeah, what was up with that figure four spot? The announcers tried to cover for it, but that was clearly a botch.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Reigns is a Samoan...he's been around rings since childhood. He's not a from scratch guy

    ReplyDelete
  140. What is up with Vince and goofy dancing characters!? Even konnan was asked to dance by Vince while creating max moon

    And actually get over...

  142. F'N Body Slams - Dan SelbyMay 31, 2014 at 12:54 PM

I agree. Always came across way too camp to me.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I remember his promos being especially brutal before also.

He hasn't had to stretch out too much as a part of WWE since Ambrose is always there to handle the heavy lifting but he's already miles better than he was before.

    ReplyDelete
  144. You're right about the heavyweights. If Brock Lesnar competed in one of the lighter divisions there would have been no way he would have became champion so quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Sydal & Claudio benefited greatly from the same thing - I was never a fan of either on the indies, because Claudio in particular would do crazy shit like diving Europeans and Burning Hammers or whatever then finish with a regular powerbomb, but I loves me some Evan Bourne & Cesaro. Two crazy awesome moves per match work so much better than fifty.

    ReplyDelete
  146. A simple haircut might even help at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  147. The last time he changed his hair he lost all his heat and had to bleach it again so the crowd would remember who he is.

I mean I guess at this point any change couldn't hurt, but it didn't help him in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  148. That match got a lot better as it went on and I was harsh on it in the live thread but those spots you mentioned were horrible and the first five minutes felt they were just fucking around so I cannot give it all of the praise that everyone else is. Plus, while Charlotte's facial expressions are awesome, Nattie's are terrible.

Also, has anyone made more noticeable botches in the past year than Nattie? No matter how much shit the other diva's get or their abilities, no one makes bigger fuckups than Nattie.

    ReplyDelete
  149. yep, he looked like Orton's little brother. Was a terrible idea.

Lana talking about how awful America is and how much better Rusev, Russia, and Vladimir Putin are?

    ReplyDelete
  151. I feel like the topic of cuckolding comes up more frequently here than it would on most other non-pornographic websites.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Hes no selling you again TBK...ouch

    ReplyDelete
  153. The best way to watch lucha as a dumb American with little/no knowledge of the Spanish language is at 2 AM with a packed bowl and Taco Bell. Of course, you have to also like weed and Taco Bell for this to work.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Substitutions of Moe's or Chipotle are acceptable, although not recommended.

  155. The Love-Matic Grampa!May 31, 2014 at 1:20 PM

The haircut was fine, it was the color that was the problem. He almost literally became invisible.

    ReplyDelete
  156. It happens a lot in pro wrestling...

    ReplyDelete
  157. Sara Del Rey is probably the best female wrestler I've ever seen, although to be perfectly honest I haven't watched as much as probably 95% of the rest of the Blog. Still, there's something great about a girl who at first glance looks like someone you'd see at the supermarket (a wonderful example of "regular-people-hot") but when she puts on a hideously garish one-piece she can kick the shit out of you. She's also nice as hell, and even though it'd be great to see her on TV I can at least say I'm glad she's making good money.

    ReplyDelete
  158. It was a funny few weeks though.

    ReplyDelete
  159. And we just started out too.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Stirring the pot I see.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Yeah, both as a caddy and a cheerleader he was Nick.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Ha! Yeah, I've tried that (Minus the taco bell, i've never even been in one), it actually made it worse, because I'm super into detail at that point, so the lack of a cohesive story in-ring drove me nuts.

    *far future, knowing Vince

    ReplyDelete
  164. Can you believe there are people in Sac that still think Horry's shot was worse than Webber going down?

At least with Horry, we still had 3 chances to win, but as soon as Webber went down, it was all over.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Lesnar would still be competitive with the 5 through 10 heavies now. That stoppage against Overeem was way early.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Brock would give UFC a nice injection of fun.

  168. He'd still beat Gonzaga/Struve/Nelson/Miocic level guys.

    ReplyDelete
  169. He certainly is way more interesting there than this dead end WWE run.

  170. Jef Vinson (Homewreckers Inc™)May 31, 2014 at 1:40 PM

He IS being kind of bossy. Don't know how he puts up with that.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Another guy that I think they could do a lot with. He can talk, he's good in the ring and he has a unique look. So let's put him with R-Truth and treat him like a jobber.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I LOVED Vince dancing with dude love and Austin laughing at him with Ross disgusted at the owner. It was so brilliant! Godamn I hate the announcers now.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Brock at least now is badass after breaking the streak.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Jef Vinson (Homewreckers Inc™)May 31, 2014 at 1:56 PM

They tried that already. Didn't work.

    ReplyDelete
  175. How about heel turn and Flair as manager?

I don't like sharing a good roast beef sandwich either.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Brock is from OVW.

    ReplyDelete
  179. He is from developmental, which is what NXT is.

    ReplyDelete
  180. The question is about NXT guys only.

    ReplyDelete
  181. If Scott is going to ignore that part, so am I.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Ricochet is fucking awesome. No way he wouldn't work in WWE

    ReplyDelete
  183. Im glad Ian Rotten is broke on his ass now. Guy is a total piece of shit

    ReplyDelete
  184. Then disappearing next month. It's just not working to have him part time. He really should have been Bryan's first challenger after that or set up an angle with him.

    ReplyDelete
  185. I'll give it to Big Japan though, they delivered (imo) the first 5 star deathmatch since Kudo/Toyoda in 96, which is still my favorite women's match iv ever seen

    ReplyDelete
  186. They should book more often have him come once in a month to kill someone, how about a rematch with Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  187. heh- I remember one of the big Puro Elitist Snobs of the late '90s, who would NEVER give ***** ratings out and pretty much shit on everything American wrestling did, would nonetheless dole out huge ratings to every single FMW Main Event like it was the greatest thing ever. Very hilarious, given the promotion's rep for garbage wrestling and mindless brawls.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Which match? One of the Kyoko matches? If not, lemme know, i've got nothing else to do today.

Also, I figured you would show up here at some point.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Oh God, the "they use blood packets" crowd. I had some idiot kid in school SWEAR that Steve Austin was somehow using fake blood via hidden packets on his forehead (like, skin-colored or some shit) for the WrestleMania bladejob against Bret.

Reminds me of the "they use wires to jump around" crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Cena is a heat vacuum right now. He's honestly bringing down Bray. I'd be interested in him getting involved in a match with The Shield. Maybe with more Heyman guys as lackeys.

    ReplyDelete
  191. If you want someone to get heel heat, don't book them against Cena. Cena is in 96' Hollywood Hogan levels of heel heat right now.

    ReplyDelete
  192. Blog of Cuck.

    ReplyDelete
  193. I can't believe on this news because http://goo.gl/XI0lwP

    ReplyDelete
  194. According to Kenny he found out Cena was tapping that ass when he caught Mickie James searching for "Mickie James dating John Cena"in the Google autofill. His tell all shoot interview (text not video) was great.

    ReplyDelete
  195. I think NXT is a good thing I really do. That being said I would love to see someone like Bobby Roode, James Storm, or AJ Styles just show up on Raw and bypass NXT completely. My ultimate fantasy would be Iishi showing up and fucking someone up real good.

    ReplyDelete
  196. I think that was where they were going, Lesnar vs Bryan for Summerslam until Bryan had to go in for his surgery.

    ReplyDelete
  197. Miyamota/Takeda 'Construction Site Death Match' in 2009. I havent seen it in a couple years, but I remember giving it a perfect rating, atleast for a deathmatch.
