Money in the Bank Match Update

While no final decision has been made about the match, Cesaro is currently the front-runner to win the briefcase.

Updates on Potential WWE Signings

Right now, both Steen and Mack are in the background check phase, which if it goes okay, they will schedule for medical tests and if they pass that, they will be offered a contract. According to Dave Meltzer, the current plan for the WWE is to have Steen, Prince Devitt, and KENTA all start at the Performance Center in August.

WWE Planning to Put Tyson Kidd Under a Mask

The WWE has already made a Lucha Libre-style match for Kidd. The feeling among the company is that he is a talented worker but that he has been marginalized as Tyson Kidd for so long that there is nothing they can do with him past the level he is at.

Christopher Daniels Update

Daniels has signed a full-time contract with Ring of Honor and will start with the company on 6/22.

This isn't a horrible idea. They could do this with several people and start a whole new division and just keep them on the B & C shows. Also it spares us from Kidd ever recreating that awful haircut he once had.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Dunno that a lucha mask is that great of a repackage...

    ReplyDelete
  4. Looks like people are taking Vince Jordan's advice.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Kevin Steen will have to shave his head if they want him to work under the Bastion Booger Jr. gimmick.

    ReplyDelete
  6. "While no final decision has been made about the match, Cena is currently the front-runner to win the briefcase."

    Fixed that for WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Agreed. I think he has the talent to be a Rey-type babyface.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I always thought it was pretty clever for WWE to utilize Ricardo Rodriguez as "enhancement luchadore" El Local. It was a good way to utilize him as both manager and wrestler. Not that I'd like to see Tyson Kidd as an enhancement luchadore, but WWE can do worse things with him besides putting him under a hood.

There's a tremendous potential for luchadore/Japanese masked wrestling if WWE can figure out how to do it right with anyone besides Rey Mysterio.

    ReplyDelete
  9. by this time next year the entire roster will be under a mask

  10. Random Oddity of the Day:

Went to the gym this morning before work. When I got up the stairs to the cardio room, the first thing I saw was a fairly attractive chick wearing a Dolph Ziggler "I'll Steal The Show ... And Your Girlfriend" shirt.

Someone bought a Ziggler shirt! He must be so proud!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Just have him be Lard Kemp, the competitive eater. They can have Yoshi Tatsu play a Kobayashi-like character. Then they can have a turkey eating competition at Survivor Series.

Vince would hire me ASAP after hearing that pitch.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I think I have an idea what you mean, but elaborate please?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I assumed / hoped that the MITB winner and angle with him holding the briefcase was something that was booked well in advance and something they planned out in great detail.

I guess not. Do they have any idea what direction they want to go in past the week ahead?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ziggler: "Someone's getting cheese on their Whopper today!"

    ReplyDelete
  15. I hope they do not ruin Kalisto by making him a Mysterio clone

    ReplyDelete
  16. I wonder if they have any idea what will happen in the main event when a show starts.

    ReplyDelete
  17. You tell people not to watch. They are listening.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh, yep, that's what I thought you meant.

But yep, even I'm on a bit of a break right now, have only watched 1 or 2 episodes since the Post WM Raw. No obligation to watch every minute of every show if it's simply too many hours.

    ReplyDelete
  19. RAW: I will resist the Muntz laugh, as I am above kicking a downed show. ("BULLSHIT!")
MITB: Will he Edge, Ziggler, or Sandow the briefcase? The world fails to wait with bated breath.
Signings: Farva will be unhappy. Others will go right on making fat jokes. Steen will make bank.
Kidd: Marginalized? I wonder whose fault that is... hmm? Although the return of the Winnipeg Kid would be fun.
    Daniels: Very cool.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I know I didn't this past week.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Mystery Downvoter: Still a frustrated virgin dating Palmela. Or is he cheating on "her" with his other hand?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love how that's worded, that he's "been marginalized," as if that's just something that happened to him.

"We didn't fail with him, it's not like we gave him nothing to do or nonsensical stop/start pushes. He's just been marginalized, that's all."

    ReplyDelete
  23. Seven years as a lower midcard worker is a long time. That is a strong stench toget rid of

    ReplyDelete
  24. TJ: You know what activity is really fun? Talking about wrestling as if it's 100% real on message boards and watching gullible posters have aneurysms trying to explain to you that it's fake.

    ReplyDelete
  25. This has nothing to do with the update, but have you seen an hour long documentary called "Inside Wrestling School" (creative name) that the Discovery channel did back in 2000? It's about what it sounds like, but one of the guys they follow from their first day at the school is John Cena. Kinda neat that the very first of his career is documented and I'm suprised that the WWE hasn't tried to get the rights to those clips (As far as I know, I haven't seen any of the Cena DVDs). They show him learning promo's and he's basically doing a 50-50 mix of Sting and Warrior.

Samoa Joe is in it too.

    ReplyDelete
  100. :claps:
    Perfect name.

    ReplyDelete
  101. The difference is that in 1991, the North American wrestling scene was much more competitive at the top, and Flair was already a star. There are no more STARS in other promotions that didn't gain that stardom in WWE. You think Eric Young or AJ Styles moves the needle one iota if they show up on RAW next week? I don't mean to us, I mean Joe Q. Wrestling Fan...or heck, Joey Q. Wrestling Fan in the third grade. Flair coming to the WWF in '91 was HUGE, and sending him to a performance center would have been a giant freaking waste.

Even 10 years later, when they bought WCW, look at what happened with the Booker T-Bagwell match. Yes, I know, WWF fans were trained to see the WCW product as inferior, and the Invasion may well have been doomed from the start for that reason. But - and Jericho points this out in his second book - Bagwell was not prepared to work in a WWF ring, and the match flat-out sucked. Jericho suggests that Lance Storm would have made a much better opponent because he was a good enough worker to handle the transition, and even goes so far as to blame the "brand extension" on Bagwell. That may not entirely be fair, given the issues with the perception of WCW, but it's certainly instructive about even experienced talent needing to get acclimated, preferably off of TV, unless there's a seriously compelling reason to rush them onto RAW.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Well he did team with El Local occasionally as El Local #2

    ReplyDelete
  103. Maybe that's it, because we can see downvotes.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Can't wait to see Steen, KENTA, and Devitt at NXT shows!

    ReplyDelete
  105. A few weeks sure, but in WWE it's more like 1 1/2 - 3 years. Sami Zayn really has not needed to be in NXT for over a year at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Yeah, by the way, you've been to the NXT tapings, how do they do them? Do they film an entire months worth of shows in a night, individual shows, or 2 shows to round out 2 weeks?

    ReplyDelete
  107. Usually 3-5 shows are filmed at a taping depending on hwo the schedule works out.

    ReplyDelete
  108. This one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xC1J6GnxPQ8

    ReplyDelete
  109. :nods head:
Must be a lot of wrestling, you going tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  110. Yes indeed. Will be at Takeover tonight, and then the tv show tapings tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  111. The Kevin Steen experiment will be interesting. While he doesn't have the body/look you'd expect WWE to be after, the guy is a great wrestler, oozes personality/charisma and when you watch him in a big show/ROH main event, he fits right in and acts like a main eventer.

So yea it will be interesting

    ReplyDelete
  112. I get what you're saying. If they're sending them to Florida to get them used to the larger WWE rings, then I agree with it. If it's to beat the "spot monkey" out of them, then I don't. Guys like RVD, Mysterio, and Hardy were some of the biggest stars of the last 15 years with their "spot monkey" styles.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I can't see down votes either. Doesn't bother me.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Yep, try watching a WWE DVD for the first time with headphones, not knowing how loud it would be, and get surprised by that.

    ReplyDelete
  115. He is so very good on the mic, as long as they keep him away from Bray Wyatt for a long while after he comes in (The closest other body type to him), he should be great. Probably should be used as a manager who wrestles part time actually, such a great brawler would fit to a manager type.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Seeing KENTA on WWE tv will be kind of mind-blowing.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryMay 29, 2014 at 9:47 AM

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  119. Imagine his 2/3 falls match with Cesaro on a RAW? Instant stars.

    ReplyDelete
  120. You're pretty gullible if you think people are actually getting angry over the downvoting. It's just kinda silly and I don't see why somebody's going to the trouble of doing it.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  122. The Love-Matic Grampa!May 29, 2014 at 10:02 AM

It saves a lot of headaches in the long run, though. WWE is very specific about what they want and now they can make sure the talent coming in fits that criteria. Does it make for a more homogenized product? Probably, but then you also avoid the type of issues that cropped during the Invasion and going back even further to the days when the likes of Dusty and Flair went to the WWF. I doubt we'll hear about KENTA "not being able to work" if and when he debuts on RAW.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I see lots of people getting very angry for much sillier reasons on here. So it wouldn't surprise me if there was a small percentage who really would be seething over it.

    ReplyDelete
  124. When I saw his matches with Cesaro in NXT, I immediately asked why the hell this guy was in NXT to begin with. He's been ready for the main roster for a long time now.

  133. Magoonie NOT Teddy BelmontMay 29, 2014 at 10:15 AM

Why exactly can't they do anything with Tyson Kidd now? Yeah it'll take a push and a little work to reestablish him but it's not that hard. You have him come back on RAW and win a #1 Contender match for the IC Title. Have him cut a promo establishing he's back and ready to work as hard as it takes to work his way up the ladder. He has a match with Barrett for the title, he really takes it to Barrett, almost winning a couple of times and Barrett barely wins. Barrett is pissed off because Tyson made him look bad and Tyson wants the title. Solid feud that helps reestablish Kidd in the WWE fans minds. Also other than that match don't let Kidd lose.

It's not that crazy once you think about it. NXT isn't even an hour long, not sure if they show the backstage promos to the audience but that can be cut out of the time if so. 3-5 shows, less than an hour each, that comes out to RAW shows/tapings or a PPV.

  149. No, give him the US title, he can have a nice long reign and not defend it.

Ziggler seems like the kind of guy who could have a huge female following. Too bad WWE can't (or won't) do more with him.

Sorry I get confused with some of the Japanese names, is this KENTA that's gonna be signed with WWE the same as KENTA Kobayshi that had those great matches in ROH (specifically against Joe)? If so that's freaking awesome

  154. You gonna write Worldwide?

I was trying to make it so the IC Title would be boosted as well. Have a wrestler be really hungry to get the title and killing himself to win it while the Title holde kills himself to keep. If its treated like a big deal to the wrestlers it'll come across as a big deal to the audience.

no, he's the kobayashi hot dog champ dude

No, I think KENTA took that name in tribute to Kobayashi.

Ahh OK, that sucks, really liked the handful of matches of Kobayshi in ROH.

  160. Looking at photos, Prince Devitt is a handsome fellow. I wonder if he could pull off the awesome character that TNA was using with Nigel McGuinness. Give him a suit and a sexy woman, and let him be some kind of international badass.

It's clearly time for WWE to transition to the CWF. Cena Wrestling Federation. ALL CENA. ALL THE TIME.

Stop down voting me KENTA that's not Kobashi, I'm sure I'll enjoy you in NXT and jobbing on Main Event.

Or they could do something really radical and new and let him go out and wrestle like he did in Japan, which was the thing that got him noticed by wwe in the first place, instead of trying to change him to fit their model. But we all know from history that won't happen. So I look forward to the 2016 Bullet Club reunion at the Tokyo Dome show.

That would be genius on his part.

  174. KENTA couldn't have picked a better time to join the company, since he can actually use his finisher. It'll be funny when fans think HE stole the Go2Sleep from CM Punk.

With AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels back in Ring of Honor now, can the return of Samoa Joe be far behind?

(insert poster) beats on (insert jobber), pins him and wins.

If I did, it'd be buried inside a weekend post most likely, out of boredom. I do take credit for YFL's last match before the gimmick change.

  184. With commercials and stuff it is, but being filmed means the crowd is usually spared that wait.

    ReplyDelete
  185. It's also for stuff like learning how to work within the WWE production machine. Working the hard camera, learning to do backstage promos, working around commercial breaks, that sort of thing. Ideally that all gets polished in NXT.
