    i don't understand this

seth rollins isn't doing the sensual moves he normally does in his wrestling videos

did they take their deal on the road live? what's with all the people? i guess the videos were just the equivalent of studio albums, and this is a live cut?

  3. I love Seth Rollins, but the Tyler Black era was when I was finished as a casual ROH enthusiast. It's amazing what an interesting hairstyle can do for a worker.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I liked their Raw match a lot better.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I love this match. So technically sound, just perfect

    ReplyDelete
  6. Good match but I like the New Horizons one the best.

  7. Wow, 2008 doesn't feel like it was all that long ago, but watching this match now, it feels like it was another lifetime. 2008 was the last year that the old ROH felt like ROH, and the Danielson/Black series was a big part of it. I never saw this particular encounter, so thanks for sharing.

  8. This is gonna be such a great title feud when it inevitably happens in WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  9. If you really think about it WWE between 2008 and now is completely different...except Cena and Orton

  10. 2008: When Jericho returned.... The first time.

  11. And for some reason Swagger's still there.

  12. Congratulations dude.Hope to see more reviews.

Just wanted to give thanks for the shout out on the Kevin Kelly Show for the Factions Countdown recap. Just listened to it, and I was surprised as anybody. Good stuff.

  14. Don't forget about Hornswoggle!

  15. I've always been a Big Show fan. Sure, he's not exactly a great worker, but he does bust his ass - a guy his age and size shouldn't be out there doing flipping sells of clotheslines and knees, but he does, on a very regular basis. Combine that with his willingness to sell and his creativity (the 2004 "Rumble" comes to mind), and you have a truly one-of-a-kind talent. I also think he's very underrated on the mic, he's a legitimately intelligent, funny guy; it's just that he spent so many years playing the "GRRR, ME ANGRY GIANT" that he suffered from being miscast.

And every once in a while, he'll surprise you with a pretty good match. He always meshed well with Angle and Brock, and his recent run with Sheamus was some of the best work of either man's career.

  16. Agreed. The "evil, stoic foreigner" gimmick is lame, but dude can MOVE in the ring.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah, the gimmick is terrible but it's shockingly over, and the crowd was going nuts for that Reigns/Rusev finish in the battle royal so that's a good sign. Obviously, having Lana as the mouthpiece is what drives the character because she's dynamite and he doesn't have to say shit.

I haven't finished yet, but the springboard backflip off of the choke on the ropes spot is something that I would normally HATE (flips just for the sake of flips) but Black sort of pulled it off.

  19. I have a weird thing for Southern Brawlers, usually out-of-shape ones - Husky Harris, Trevor Murdoch, Festus, Henry Godwinn, Bradshaw, Skip Sheffield (not fat, but Southern), etc.

Maybe it's because I'm from Long Island, but there's nothing scarier to me than a big, angry good ol' boy. Or maybe "Deliverance" just really made that much of an impact on me. I also grew up watching "World's Strongest Man" competitions, so I always just kind of assume that the big dude with the beer-belly will kick the shit out of the big dude with the six-pack abs.

  20. Yes!

To me, he's an example that even the stupidest gimmicks can get over if the performer puts their all into it.

  21. Gabe left in October 2008, so that might be why it felt like the last old ROH year.

Jeff Jarrett (if there's one person who's name I'll always remember how to spell it's his) is a good wrestler, he just stalls and plays to the crowd too damn much.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I liked Hack Myers solely for the "Shah! Shah! Shah! Shah! Shit!" moment that inevitably happened in every one of his matches.

Kevin Nash. He sucks, though I don't think he sucks as bad as most people say, but I'm a huge mark for the guy. Also, pretty much everyone in 1994 ECW besides Shane Douglas.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Agree on that last part, I didn't get all the hate for the Gang Warz. I thought it was fun midcard stuff.

  27. No Friday night open thread? Where am I supposed to talk about Transformers: the Movie (1986)?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Or shit all over Transformers 4?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'd be OK with that, too. Hearing even more awful things than I was expecting.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nonsense, it has Kelsey Grammar, so odds are he's the best part of the movie.

    ReplyDelete
  31. SHough610 and I saw this main event a ROH show in Philly back in 2008. Never in a million years did I ever expect one guy to main event Wrestlemania, let alone win said main event after decisively beating Triple H earlier that night, and the other guy to become one of the top heels in the company.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The best part of a shitty movie is still being cast in a shitty movie.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Stevie Richards and The Blue Meanie. My word, their vignettes and appearances mimicking other wrestlers were gold.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Speaking of Transformers 4, I was in Toys R Us this afternoon, to make myself feel better after a crappy meeting, and noticed they were selling a "Past and Present" pack of Grimlock, with his G1 version and his new movie version.

I then spent 20 minutes looking through the Transformers section to see if they sold JUST a G1 Grimlock to go with my "Fall of Cybertron" version. No dice.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Nothing is shitty when it contains Kelsey Grammer.

This reminds me, there's a huge building going up next to work and there's a sign that says "The most annoying Cranes since Frasier and Niles"

    ReplyDelete
  37. The Cat was great, and one of the things I liked about late-era WCW. He couldn't work to save his life, but his mic stuff was top notch. Add Miss Jones, and you have a winner.

He absolutely TORE into Mark Madden.

Could probably pick one up on eBay fairly reasonably.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I actually just bought a refurbished Microsoft Surface via eBay through Microsoft today.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I laughed, then I got angry.

I'll not hear a bad word spoken about that show, except for the later seasons after Niles and Daphne get together.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Eh, it is what it is by this point. I almost feel ashamed complaining about it in a fool me once, shame on you, fool me 4 times, what the f is the matter with me? type thing.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Stevie was getting sneaky decent for awhile there til he hosed his neck

  43. Mister_E_PuttingPedalsToMedalsJune 27, 2014 at 7:29 PM

I don't know what that is, but I bought some Dinobots on there years ago.

    YEARS ago.

  44. Mister_E_PuttingPedalsToMedalsJune 27, 2014 at 7:29 PM

    I like the show too.

The site has a rotating set of joke signs, the first one was something like "Construction will be done faster than a Kardashian wedding, we promise!"

    ReplyDelete
  45. I like you. Do you still have the Dinobots?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Mister_E_PuttingPedalsToMedalsJune 27, 2014 at 7:30 PM

Gonna say probably. I have a Transformer collection that I haven't looked at in quite a while and has been moved a couple of times.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Smackdown is actually a lot of fun tonight too.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yep, for sure. I remember seeing the results come in for the Escalation show, which was the first card put together by Adam Pearce (he'd taken over a previous Canadian weekend, I believe, but those shows didn't feel too different). I was shaking my head looking at those results, as almost every single match had some sort of screwy finish, basically it was booked like an episode of television, rather than a standalone show. I still enjoyed going to ROH in 2009-2011, but it was never quite the same.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I don't know. all the years with Cena on top and the current TV set kind of all blend together to me.

  50. Adam "Colorado" CurryJune 27, 2014 at 8:00 PM

Wasn't he never really trained to begin with? I don't think he went to any kind of school. It also didn't help that he was about my age when he broke in.

Big Show is an AMAZING wrestler for a guy his size. Stupid fucking name though, why not just call him "The Giant" Paul White (change the spelling for obvious reasons). That's a good enough name, hell of a lot better than The Big Show.

    ReplyDelete
  52. You are welcome sir! Glad you listened to the show and enjoyed!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yup. As Ernest said Gabe leaving was a big blow to the company. I did enjoy things like the Steen/Generico fued and Davie Richards road to the title (which took to damn long, and didn't feel as special when he finally made it).

But the company was never the same for me. Kind of like ECW once they got the TNN deal. Still the same company, but lost its flavor they had 94-97 which made it great

    ReplyDelete
  54. To be fair, I do think Gabe was burnt out. I believe even he has admitted so without really admitting it.

I was crazy into ROH from 04-08 but I started to fall out with it in 2008, even before Gabe left. Once he was gone, I also checked out not long after. The last show I ever attended and watched was Final Battle 08.
