DEADPOOL

OH MY GOD.  How perfect is this?

Sadly, not part of a real movie yet, but all they need is floating yellow captions randomly popping up and it’s 100% perfect to what I would have pictured in the movie version of Deadpool.  Only real problem being that Ryan Reynolds might not like being basically anonymous through the whole thing, but they nailed it with this regardless

Well, no one's been pushing this project harder than Reynolds (who felt he got hosed in "X-Men Origins), so I'm sure he won't mind. The only thing is the property is incredibly niche for film; best prospect is that it does Kick-Ass levels of $40m-ish Stateside, so a studio is gonna really have to be cost-efficient to make it, and I think the lack of a high ceiling for a Deadpool movie no matter how cool is what's keeping production from seeing the light of day.

Longest Cubs game in history ends with a position player getting the pitching win and scoring the game-winning run. Baseball is wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hey, if Ryan Reynolds won't take the payday, the studio could always just get some random stuntman under the mask and dub Nolan North's voice over him. It'd probably be a much cheaper option for the studio, too.

I think I was over roommates either

    A) when a roommate and his gf had sex while I was (then) sleeping, with our beds (freshman dorms) being close enough that his bedposts were hitting mine,

    B) when my female roommate nearly got us evicted because she decided to have anal sex with her bf on our porch in full view of the neighboring apartments, then had sex on my futon where the dude jizzed all over it (the futon is green) and neither of them cleaned after themselves (oddly enough, we worked past that -- in retrospect, she was going through a lot of personal shit and owned up to being a terrible roommate -- and we're really close friends now)

or C) when a roommate, who turned out to be a drug addict, stole my Wii and mountain bike and a bunch of other shit. Thankfully, I keep the serial codes of all my pricey stuff, so it got a hit at a local pawn shop when they ran it through the police scanner (that got him arrested) and his dad recovered my bike from their local bike shop where the roomie tried to flip it for cash. The dad was nice enough to comp me for all my property, let me keep the deposit after he was evicted, and threw in my roommate's couch for good measure.

But yeah, I'm happy to be on my own for the last several years.

  27. Well Scott, Karl Urban didn't mind being helmeted for the whole of Dredd, and Hugo Weaving thankfully stayed masked for the whole of V for Vendetta, too, so if Reynolds truly loves the character (and I believe he does) then he might be ok with it...

  42. He's always been some one I admire. I studied the same form of Kung Fu that he did for 5 years and I liked being able to pick out the things he would incorporate into his choreography. For my black sash test I was going to have to create a form (a sequence of moves) of my own and I was going to create a staff form based on his fight at the end of Phantom Menace. He is just an awesome talent... who must be an awful actor since no one will ever let him speak.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I have no idea. But to me he is just a guy in a lucha mask with some big guns. In a universe of incredibly powerful heroes/villains he should have ben killed in like 30 seconds.

  45. Well after a while I got a job that the schedule didn't fit with the training schedule. Also my teacher was getting very old and wasn't as physically capable of teaching as he used to be so the quality of the school diminished (not putting that on him, just one of those things) so I made it to purple (which is one step removed in our system) before I couldn't go any longer. I regret not seeing it through but it is still one of the best things I have done in my life and I learned a lot... and I don't just mean how to punch and kick.

  46. That's the thing... HE CAN'T DIE.... oooooooo

Fucking christ. Deadpool blowing up is the thing that makes me absolutely upset with Marvel, cuz he sucks.

Especially when they killed the Ms. Marvel push because of the Deadpool buzz.

I mean, you have this chick that you are trying to equate and push to Wonder Woman levels of popularity so Marvel can have a big 4 (Cap/Iron Man/Thor/...Ms. Marvel). She has rich history with both the X-Men and Avengers. A whole list of rogues. A good writer. A great artist in Adriana Melo and Frank Cho doing covers.

And you shit-can that for Deadpool covers?!?!

  51. Oh no, I respect that shit.

I know mad people who do the martial art thing and I have watched some competitions. Cleveland has/had a famous cat by the name of Ken Furgeson who had a school for a long time. When I was younger I wanted to try it, but the family was too poor to pay the fees and what not.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Tae Kwon Do when taught properly is an excellent art (as are most of them really) that can be very effective... but in the U.S. it has been very much... well Americanized and turned into a series of McDojo's in most cases. Teachers worry about catering to children and weak students to make money as opposed to teaching discipline and passing on an art. I was very fortunate that my teacher was an older man who was retired and financially comfortable and therefore was teaching because he wanted to be a teacher and pass on our system which is very brutal in terms of how it is taught. Our society needs more of that... we are weak physically, mentally, and spiritually (for lack of a better term) and this more than anything I have ever done teaches you the discipline you need to get through the hard parts of life.

  58. You know, sometimes this stuff "leaks" to gauge reactions. There is plenty of time for Fox to do this movie if they want to keep building up the X-Men universe (and after the major success of Days of Future Past, I think that's a given).

Considering this "leaked" right after Comic-Con, I think there's a good chance it was done on purpose.

As for Reynolds being anonymous, he doesn't exactly have much else going for him right now, right? Green Lantern and RIPD were big bombs, and he's not the big comedy name that he used to be.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Mongol Hordes them? Because now I'm just envisioning an army of dicks on horseback, with Lita giving orders to them to conquer in her name...

Man, I used to live when OTR would have wrestlers on. It was well before shoot interviews we popular and you got a real glimpse of many wrestlers like Bret and Mick.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yeah the Rude one in the next SNME was good. Most of the Valentine matches were good. The Perfect match at WM 6 was fun. I think working with Valentine put him in a nice place as a worker. Then the accident happened.

  66. It was fantastic. It's frustrating as hell that they can't get a studio to back them to make a sequel.

  67. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonJuly 30, 2014 at 8:25 AM

Lita needs no army to conquer a horde of dicks.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Unfortunately, the movie was a bomb but was a critical success and did well on DVD/VOD. But I agree. It is frustrating as heck.

    ReplyDelete
  69. It's the humour. Some of his stories were genuinely funny but then Marvel does what they usually do when they find a hot commodity: they oversaturate the market with the character by putting him in EVERYONE else's stories and that exposed Deadpool as being one-note and lame.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Agreed. Marvel doesn't really have an iconic female superhero (although Black Widow could be because of the Avengers movie).

Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Storm, Invisible Woman...none are A-list players.

  71. Those interviews were awesome. OTR treated wrestlers with respect like no other television show.

The Joe Kelly run which also brought Ed McGuiness into the spotlight was definitely the beginning. Before that he was "Kewl" with the Liefeld and X-Men ties stuff with only a couple minis over the years. When the Kelly run started he gained a footing as a real character and one that wasn't necessarily tied just to the X-Universe. Also it was great as hell.

  83. I'll always remember that Mean Gene interview at Survivor Series 1989 after Hogan's match, where he asks Brutus about the No Holds Barred match, Beefcake lets out about half a syllable, and then Hogan interrupts and takes over. Then Beefcake stammers his way through about two sentences before Sherri comes in to set up the Savage/Zeus attack
