A tournament was held to fill the vacated World Tag Team Championship, with the final round coming down to The Midnight Express and The Fabulous Freebirds. During the tournament, The Road Warriors and The Samoan SWAT Team were interfering in each other's matches. "Dr. Death" Steve Williams was brought into the mix by Jim Cornette to give The Midnight Express an ally against the three-man Freebirds team. So with all this fussin' and a-feudin' goin' on, what is a logical blowoff? WARGAMES!

Underrated war games on one of the best PPVs ever.
ReplyDeleteDustin Rhodes vs Bunkhouse Buck at spring stampede 94 is all kinds of awesome I hadnt see it until this morning.
ReplyDeleteI have watched the Summerslam match between punk vs Cena. It just didn't do it for me... Liked it much better than the night of champi
ReplyDeleteChristian winning at MITB was fantastic
ReplyDeleteProblem is signing pierce would have cost the nets about 17-18 million after luxury tax fees. They really couldn't sign him. They are a mess to begin with but can't blame them for not trying to bring pierce back. As a celtics fan I thank them for the trade though.
ReplyDeleteThat was really good
ReplyDeleteI feel that way about the fatal four way from the following years backlash. Loved the Cena/HBK/Orton/Edge fatal 4 way. Crazy finish.
ReplyDeleteThey easily could sign him. In a wide open East next season, why not go to war with Pierce and see how far they can go. The Nets are ridiculously shortsighted.
ReplyDeleteTheir theme this offseason was continuity!
Signing him would of cost ownership as much as Lebron cost the Cavs to sign. No way they were doing that. They have made a lot of mistakes to get to the point they can't be spenders but were they are at now they were in no place to sign pierce for a 5 million dollar contract.
ReplyDeleteThey already committed to thumbing their nose at the luxury tax and paying out the ass to field a winner and now, a year after they traded everything away, they didn't want to.
ReplyDeleteIt's shortsighted. Why didn't think they of this before they did the trade?
i love bayley. she's so cute
ReplyDeleteThat I agree with. Prokorov(sp), and his entire time there had been shortsighted. Zero patience and just taking on big contracts. I liked the idea of taking one shot at it last season but they are paying the price now. Paid the league an obscene amount of money for their crazy salary last season. I totally agree it is completely short sighted.
ReplyDeleteFixated on Orton much? I don't even think he's in my top 10 favorites, but there are objectively wrong opinions such as the one you have.
ReplyDeleteAnd aren't you the guy who creates different accounts and different names to post here, telling me to go outside?
Put it in the A- of the Wargames, behind the original, 91 and 92 Wrestle War.
ReplyDeleteThe empty arena match between Lawler and Funk is a classic.
ReplyDeleteSeveral times it seems.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there was but without the internet, it was pretty muffled.
ReplyDeletePWI was sure pro NWA though, whatever little that meant.
Yup
ReplyDeleteShe's no better than anyone you listed though.
ReplyDeleteHogan was the guy who brought me in back in the day, but I had turned on him before the end of his reign.
ReplyDeleteLance was just so good.
ReplyDeleteTOD?????
ReplyDeleteThere's a blast from the past. Stucknut ring a bell?
You gotta love a show whose worst match is......I guess you have to give it to the tuxedo match, and even then Cornette and Heyman brought their A-game for it
ReplyDeleteAlso noteable for the exchange between Hayes and Heyman during WarGames:
"I have to go in?"
"There's no one else left!"
"Damn."
Cracks me up every time.
You can even look back to 1996 for that matter -- the 1996 show set a PPV buys record for WCW and just trailed WrestleMania for the most bought show of 1996 and was a record gate for the Nashville area.
ReplyDelete1998 to 1999 is just brutal though, it's just nuts how they went from 440k buys to 125k in one year.
"Tonight it's Steiner's title vs. 30 days with Kimberly. Why Page would agree to adding that is beyond me."
ReplyDeleteREALLY? The idea that Steiner is full of shit when he says this is not valid?
Nothing personal but this kind of thing gets on my nerves. The very notion that someone in fiction can express an opinion, or make a statement, without knowing what they're talking about is a foreign concept?
Why do many people take what somebody says at 100% face value in fiction?
Especially SCOTT STEINER?
You think JUST BECAUSE Steiner says so MAKES IT FACT? Here's a better observation of that, in kayfabe Steiner is full of shit because he doesn't know what he's talking about half the time.
Personally I want to know WHY no one has called Nash out on this bullshit claim. If he just misremembers events fine I can buy that. But believing Nash doesn't have internet access to this stuff, LIKE THE REST OF US INTERNET GEEKS DO, Is like living in a fantasy world where Nash is WCW's #1 draw.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the Page/Steiner stipulation, Tony Schiavone said on a Nitro or Thunder soon after this show that Page never agreed to it.
ReplyDeleteAnd a smidge of luck, Argentina blowing a couple of chances, but very well defended for the most part by Germany.
ReplyDeleteHe was mine and my friend's least-favourite wrestler at the time. We were just SO let down by DDP's Title win as a result- he never watched WCW again.
ReplyDeleteMuch like the WCW booking committee!
ReplyDeleteYeah Rey losing his match was one of the all-time worst moves IMO. Rey didn't get a lot of big angles, but he was easily the most recognizable guy in the whole division and certainly the biggest star of the bunch -- the whole thing just has a very downtrodden feel to it.

ReplyDeleteAlso why has maffew of botchamania not tried to work that into one of his videos?
