Comments

  1. Get Mark Henry away from Big Show and have him back kicking ass and cutting promos, please.

Hey, if they build him up strong enough, Mark could be a stop-gap challenger for Brock (notwithstanding the RAW beatings Brock has given Mark in the past year).

    ReplyDelete
  2. Could Hogan even pass the physical? I don't see how, looking at him gingerly walk down the ramp in his last three or four appearances.

I guess he and Austin could do a Murderball-like match in wheelchairs.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Well, Brock "Zach Ryder'd" Mark Henry like 4 times without breaking a sweat before WM, so I think the ship has sailed on Mark being a threat to Brock.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yeah that match was as one-sided as his last match

    ReplyDelete
  5. I agree...even so, knowing how limited WWE's memory is, they could build Mark up and not even acknowledge those incidents.

    ReplyDelete
  6. It did seem odd that Henry was in two segments.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'd be curious if there's a pattern of Hour 3 drop-offs in viewers the night after PPVs. Maybe it's nothing more than people not wanting their kids to stay up (or wanting to stay up themselves) until after 11pm two nights in a row.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Not necessarily, but the way they were pushed and put over on commentary fits with his style.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I loved Mo. I knew even then he was terrible, but I loved him because I felt sorry for him; he definitely didn't come across as anything even approaching a WWF caliber wrestler. Even shitty 1995 WWF. Plus when I first saw him in a vignette, I thought he was maybe in his 50s due to his bleached goatee. I thought it was just grey.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm actually curious to see what type of story they tell in this matchup. LOVED the Summer Slam match. And if Cena loses, they can make a TON of money at WM 31.

You could talk me into a scenario where cocky Brock isn't paying attention and Cena steals the victory, but as payback, Brock destroys Cena and then the belt flips back to Brock again.

    ReplyDelete
  11. + 1 thought he was old.

    ReplyDelete
  12. They're not part of the discussion because they haven't been trained on getting these shows for $10. Not sure what's confusing.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Cornette telling the story about Dennis Condrey ribbing Phil Hickerson (his tag team partner at the time) and Tojo Yammamoto at the same time is awesome too.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm not so sure. I've been reading a lot of "Boy, will Batista be welcomed back this time..." comments--but I think, in general, WWE fans liked booing Batista (and they like doing the things that everybody else is doing.)

They can't just bring him back and say "Hey! I did that movie you liked! How 'bout it?"

I think Batista has to be rebuilt. If they want him as a face, they've got to bring him back humble...determined... He's learned his mistakes from last time--assuming that the fans would remember him and then, the bigger mistake, throwing his lot back in with The Authority. He won't make those mistakes again.

And you book him to methodically work through the roster...pulling off strong, definitive wins (not squashes). He shouldn't be in the main event...he should just have matches...he should build momentum, respect...until he's legitimately a challenger and a threat to the top guys.

Let the crowd react how they react--but, if they show the guy getting the job done in the ring and not being bothered by the reactions...I bet he earns the fans respect...and I bet by the time he's main level again, he has the fans behind him.

BUT...they won't do that. They'll say "He's Back! The Guardian of the Galaxy" and they'll throw him into the top level feud and wonder why everyone is still booing him...and then they'll turn him heel again and no one will care.

  15. Hey Scott, wasn't "The Minotaur" in 1991 WCW? Steve DiSalvo with freaky eyes and managed by Paul E. Dangerously?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think it would be cool for them to do a few matches where Cena gets a little closer every time until he eventually figures it out. The problem with this, I suppose, is that Cena has been booked as Superman for so long that it's not really believable. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  17. They are both quite lame, but it's kind of more inconsequential in this case. The joke in this review is the equivalent of Lawler making a fart pun during an Oddities vs Kaientai match, whereas having DX or John Cena use poop humor in a main event feud would be more akin to Scott leading off his debut novel with Random House by making a chapter-length diarrhea joke.

    ReplyDelete
  18. You just have to say it right.....*whisper*fifty*scream*9.99!!!!

  19. Randy Barber and the Mulkey brothers want their royalties too!

  20. On the subject of ribs I'm currently reading an e-book 1PW: All or Nothing and there was one rib gone bad mentioned where Steve Corino and Chris Hamrick were ribbing most of the other wrestlers in a hotel by attacking them with pillows. The exceptions of a few guys that weren't to be messed with included Homicide, Abyss, Bret Hart and Samoa Joe. However at one point somebody joked about getting Joe, AJ and Daniels, who were minding their own business playing cards, when a rookie with a bad reputation named Jay Phoenix (who would later be exposed as a complete scumbag) volunteered to get Joe. Not believing he was serious Corino and Hamrick agreed that they would be right behind him, only to sit down when he ran off. Suddenly they saw Jay being chased by an angry Samoa Joe who proceeded to drag Jay to the parking lot where some of the other wrestlers stopped him from killing him!

So I guess the moral of the story is don't prank Samoa Joe!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. This has to be a match where Cena has a better game plan, learns from his mistakes, comes close, but still loses. Whoever beats Brock at this point will be a made man, and Cena's been made for a decade now.

    ReplyDelete
  22. As a big fan of the feud, I really enjoyed the Kayfabe commentaries produced "My side of the story: Tito/Greg", it was quite interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The 1st Cornette shoot by Kayfabe Commentaries, the 2nd is great too, but they ran out of stuff to talk about. Cornette is the standard in shoots, and the chemistry he has with Sean works. At least until Jim got mad at him over something stupid, which they've mended.

  24. Pretty sure it was Bill Watts by KOTR. Most "credit" the Mabel push to him. Not sure how long that lasted or who took over, but they must have changed up a lot before landing on Russo, b/c I'm pretty sure Jake Roberts was booking in fall of 96 (he was credited with the Pillman gun angle)

    ReplyDelete
  25. as these go on please keep us updated on who was booking. it's super interesting stuff.

  26. Ugh, I know. I'm as hardcore anarcho-capitalist as it gets, and I was even irritated by Morley constantly bringing up his political views.

  28. What's he so bitter about, anyways?

  29. The rumor for the past few weeks is that it'll be a Steel Cage match. That way, Cena can reclaim the title without having to pin Lesnar, thus keeping Lesnar's aura of technically being 'undefeated' alive. Paul Heyman can even cut a promo afterwards saying that only by "running away" from Brock Lesnar (i.e. escaping the cage) was Cena able to win.

Personally, I'm of the belief that Lesnar will retain the title and then lay down for Rollins the next night on Raw. Brock Lesnar is The Authority's hired mercenary to take the championship away from Cena. He even referred to himself as a 'mercenary' just last week. Once Cena's out of the way and Brock has a hold of the title, he may be willing to lay down for Rollins and let him cash in on him. With Ambrose incapacitated at the moment, soon would be the perfect time to cash in. Plus, Heyman can cut a quasi-shoot promo saying that since Lesnar understands business and since he likes to come and go as he pleases, he has no real interest in keeping the title and working countless amounts of dates in a row (such as live events, especially) and thus has no problem being paid off to let someone else pin him to win the championship.

    ReplyDelete
  30. You keep saying he's freaking out yet you're THE ONLY ONE YELLING.

    ReplyDelete
  31. in the first 15 minutes before Rob asks his questions Jacks goes off on:
-Heyman and how he fucked the ECW wrestlers (wasting money at atlantic city and not paying the boys)

-The Dudleys and how they were acting all high and mighty cuz they made it to the WWE. (specifically mentioning how Devon had fucked his old rat, and Bubba allegedly took it up the poopshoot)

-Todd Gordon on how he smoked crack and fucking this rat.

Then he goes into ranting on
-XPW (Rob Black and Lizzy Borden's promotion. Calling out the Messiah thumb deal)
-Blue Meanie and Jasmin St Claire's promotion.
    -Missy Hyatt
    -CZW
    -Gyspy Joe ordeal (lol)

and a whole list of others.

    I love that shoot.

My favorite shoot isn't actually a sit-down interview, but rather: "You know I'm Doug Gilbert, and Jerry Lawler... YOU RAPED A LITTLE 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL, HA HAAAA!"

    ReplyDelete
  33. Dennis Condrey ribbing Phil Hickerson is a great story, too.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yes he was. And the original IWC meme, if you remember the RSPW days back then.
I think he had no manager, but did appear on a Danger Zone segment.
Going back to Mantaur, does someone have a copyright over the name of the mythical beast, hence the name change? In his debut, you can clearly hear the ring announcer call him "Minotaur," despite Vince's best efforts to talk over him and say "Did they say his name was Mantaur?" (Same thing happened when Tom Pritchard became a Bodydonna. They couldn't call him "Flip" as originally planned, but on the taping Sunny addresses him by that name and Vince does the same thing asking if she said "Zip")

    ReplyDelete
  35. Do you really think so?
    Nah, dude, me neither.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I CAN'T CONTROL THE SOUND OF MY OWN VOICE!

    ReplyDelete
  37. well, it makes sense that vince is going the rocky iii route

he just now saw it, and was even pretty impressed by that hulk hogan youngster. he thinks he can probably do some nice business with him

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wow, he'll even defend 50/50 booking. Vince Jordan, ladies and gentlemen!

    ReplyDelete
  39. If Cena wins the belt back one motherfucking month after that brutal ass kicking at SummerSlam, then I'm canceling my subscription to the WWE network, and that company can go fuck itself.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wait, I missed it - how much was that rant collection again?

    ReplyDelete
  41. What about Rocky King? Brother can't ever catch a break!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I remember during the intro to every RAW, Vince would be yelling, "Welcome everyone to the sold-out civic center! Welcome everyone to MONDAY NIGHT RAW" and the fans would be going bananas in the background. I always assumed that an announcer came out and said "Welcome to Monday Night RAW!" and everyone went crazy.

Then I went to a taping when I was 9 (the one where newly babyface Shawn returns from the Sid beat down) and some dude in the ring goes, "Okay, on the count of 3 I want everyone to scream as loudly as they can. 1 ... 2... "

  46. On Luger....considering what big plans Vince had for him, maybe he was just through with him when it failed? Or even held it against Lex?....or his contract was expiring in less than a year, could have been downplaying him until he re-signed?

Raw still starts with the biggest stars in the company every week, HHH and Big Steph. This is what the writers actually think.

Currently 70-15, leaning heavily on my Super Rare Sheamus.

  59. So addicted, 601-29 already. But, I think I've hit the wall where it's near impossible to get anything above rares and thus must rely on the slooooooooow KOTR's to advance.

I'm also struggling to see the point of combining anything below rares (except for the meager training bonus after, which isn't time efficient).

  63. So, to clarify, if I level up my Summer Raw all the way, should I level up my second one before I combine them to pro or does only one of them have to be leveled up?
