WWE's problems with CRTC

Scott,

Any comments on this? Are the CRTC in the right?

-Paul.

I changed the link from the junk news site to the WON  update it came from first.

And yes WWE is absolutely skirting Canadian content rules here.  I'm shocked they didn't run into this sooner in fact.

  1. Since when has Meltzer starting talking about sumo?

  2. WELP, here come Classic Stampede, Atlantic Grand-Prix and International Wrestling shows! Perhaps also some classic AWA from Winnipeg!

  3. Obviously the best solution is a new nightly talk show: ROUGEAU TONIGHT!

    "We also examine..."

    "We also have coverage..."

  5. The weird thing is ... I might actually need to do some pondering if they had Atlantic Grand Prix on the channel.

I distinctly remember it from my childhood, but as far as I know it's entirely disappeared.

  6. Best-case scenario is Rogers has to pull the plug on their rip-off service and WWE goes OTT.

  7. Otherwise, it's the return of WWF Superst.... er... WWF Wrestling! And WWF Wrestling Cha... er... WWF Cavalcade!

  8. Paying for wrestling news is like paying for the Onion. Meltzer needs be jobless, homeless and hairless.

  9. I was in NB visiting relatives one year and we went up to a show in Moncton. From what my cousins told me they didn't regularly do Saint John where we were, which I thought odd.

  10. JR mentioned on his podcast how Ambrose - Rollins could have used some color. He's right. What I don't get is how stomping somebody's head into cinder blocks is TVPG but a little blade job isn't.

  11. Observer updates give me a headache.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I wonder if Meltzer could make money if he switched his site to something akin to Gawker-esque site for wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  13. That's also a better-case scenario than what we have now. They're not for the right reasons, but this is one of the few times I'm on the side of the CRTC.

  14. I was about to say, I think all that means is that WWE will suddenly be showing a lot of Stampede/Maple Leaf in Canada.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm pretty sure he does well for himself as is.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Apparently Canadian content isn't the problem as WWE Network is being classified as a non-Canadian programming service. Apparently the problem is being too similar with Fight Network, which airs some wrestling.

  17. There goes the exclusive interviews for Live Audio Wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Mattel has a lot of cinder block accessories for Slam City so it's ok.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Maybe they can cut a deal to only air 1997 RAW episodes that assert Canadian superiority, Lance Storm U.S. Title matches, and promos from the Unamericans.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't know Scott, that link you provided is rather shitty in its own right. I couldn't find the story for the life of me, just a bumch of previews for stories people would never pay to read. CALL THE WCW HOTLINE AND FIND OUT ALL THIS AND MORE

    ReplyDelete
  21. *Lance Storm Canadian Title matches, thankyouverymuch.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Blood is gross. And also AIDS is still a thing. WWE is a publicly traded company ; they can't have people cutting themselves for your entertainment.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Websites like this wouldn't exist without Meltzer making smart fans relevant in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That title was the SHIT.

Oh wait, the SHIT was another title.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm confused. WWE can't be on the air in Canada because it's too similar to another network? Then how to they decide which of the other 500 networks that are a huge same to air?

    ReplyDelete
  26. "We also need to buy a thesaurus."

    ReplyDelete
  27. that is one screwy rule if you ask me. does canada not have as many tv channels that the us has?

    ReplyDelete
  28. what was the cruiserweight belt called, the under something amount of kilos title lol?

    ReplyDelete
  29. and alot of random shots of jack tunney pressers.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think Meltzer has a Japanese fetish of some sort.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah, I think back to how Hogan used to wipe his bloody, sweaty head with a towel or shirt and then throw it out to the audience. Yuck.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Nope, that was the Hardcore Title aka the Saskatchewan Hardcore International Title aka the future inspiration for Rosey, Super Hero In Training.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Why not just use blood capsules then? No one has ever gotten AIDS from those.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Kinda funny that 90% of Movie Central's lineup is non-Canadian yet the CRTC has never gone after them for that.

    ReplyDelete
  35. "Welcome to the Great White Aftermath. I'm ArdaKyle and these are my friends Renee and Jimmy"

    ReplyDelete
  36. Honestly? I would be down for that.

Provided we got the proper Network, not this extra channel through Rogers bullshit.

    ReplyDelete
  37. No wrestler has ever gotten HIV due to blading.
