"Or they should stop having good matches and turn 40." This made me LMAO. And I still to this day have no idea who Chad Brock is. Macho Man vs. Rodman at Road Wild is a guilty pleasure of mine, "entertaining crap" borrowing (i.e. stealing) a phrase from Scott.
I'm so tired of the outrage over this movie not being released. No one was going to go watch it before all the hacking stuff, but because Sony pulled it, now everyone's acting like the Constitution was challenged or something equally stupid. It's a Seth Rogan/ James Franco movie. Remember how insufferable "This is the End" was? It will be that all over again.
I have no issue with Savage vs. Rodman. Savage is one of the biggest wrestling stars of all-time and Rodman is one of the biggest sports personalities in history. If WCW can get a guy like Rodman to help them get mainstream attention at a time when the WWF was kicking their butt week in and week out, more power to them.
This whole thing stinks of bullshit. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if this was a publicity stunt to drum up controversy because no one knew about or cared about this shitty movie beforehand.
Not saying I disagree with you, but we do have freedom of speech, and we have gone to war with terrorists who threatened our daily freedoms. If you take one thing away, even a dumb Seth Rogen movie, it becomes so much easier to take away the next, and the next etc. Republican, Democrat, we all need allies. Things like movies bring us together as Americans because they bring us together. When the terrorists can control the hearts and minds of those around them through threats, we allow their influence to stretch even further than even North Korea ever imagined. Just needed to get that off my chest. Happy holidays.
Most wrestlers wrestle the same match--Randy Orton's happens to be awful and Dolph Ziggler's happens to be really good.
Also, Dolph continues selling while he's on offense, helping create the illusion that these men are really kicking the crap out of each other. Your precious Viper should try that sometime Yeehaw
It's wrestling. Owen had I just broke your neck shirt after the Austin incident and I think there's probably more cases like this so AJ isn't the first guy to do this and doubt he'd be the last either.
It's chad flop! Per curt henning that is. I remember next week he gets announces and booed out the building . Then henning I believe gets in some confrontation that was suppose to lead to a tag match but as always wcw
Yeah, Sony let us see their chairman of movie production make racist jokes, exposed tons of employees to identity theft through the release of their SS numbers, pissed off a bunch of stars into possibly not working with them again by revealing what they really think of them, not even mentioning the effect on the stock price before they said it was coming out after all, all to promote the new Seth Rogen movie. I'm all for cynicism, but "it was a marketing ploy!" is ridiculous.
I like Sheiky as a worker and personality just fine but his place in wrestling history tends to be pretty dramatically overstated. Even before he became a Twitter/meme star, things like The Unreal Story of Pro Wrestling made him out to be the biggest heel of his generation. He had a nationality that tied into current events and he was lucky enough to be the challenger when it came time to transition the title to Hulk Hogan. And that's the real extent of it. He and Volkoff really had no business near the tag titles in 1987.
I thought This Is The End was really funny. Yea, not every joke worked and there were bits in the movie that reminded you that you were dealing with first time directors, but it was a lot of fun.
Despite what the FBI is saying most computer security experts think that NK had nothing to do with the hacks, and DEFINITELY had no part in the "terrorist threats". Methinks this is either a ex-Sony employee with a grudge or a total work.
True story, I actually saw that with my mom. She was in the mood for a movie and thought it'd be like Paul Blart because Goofy Stoner Seth Rogen was the lead, however much I told her what the subject matter was and how much it was compared to Taxi Driver in the reviews.
Yeah, they had their brief run, obvious to everyone the Hart Foundation was a much hotter team and as I said, they did good business as champs to prove it.
The original hacks, or the threats against theaters? The hacks were real, but almost certainly had nothing to do with the DPRK, that was an inside job. The threats were either a stunt or some jerkoff wanting his 15 minutes. Notice how the movie was never brought up until the feds implicated NK in the hacks? The fact that Sony is about to release a movie about killing Lil Kim is just coincidence.
This is in NO way a Freedom of Speech issue. Freedom of Speech only means the U.S. government can make no laws against us, the citizens, saying whatever we want in a public environment short of physically threatening someone or causing a panic. The Supreme Court's ruling on the 1st Amendment over the years is labyrinth and confusing and requires an entire class in law school.
A business can say, or choose to not say, whatever they want for whatever reason they want. If Sony chooses not to release a movie because someone is threatening violence, that's their choice. No freedoms are being taken away from anyone.
This is my personal opinion, but I don't think there were any terrorists behind any of this. Some crackpot made a threat and Sony was looking for a way out anyway.
Ok... Norm is actually a pretty smart guy, and a hell of a lot funnier than anyone involved with this shitpile of a film. (If he's in it I'm about to look stupid, but that's beside the point) But people who actually study and work in the fields of foreign languages all agree that the people that made those threats aren't Koreans just messing up English, but native English speakers, almost certainly American, just trying to sound like they don't know the language.
Fair enough. I believe you and I had a discussion about Seth Rogen movies before. I'm not a fan of the comedy stylings of him and his friends, but I have no problem with someone who likes them.
I've been suspicious all along that this whole hacking thing was just a giant promotional gimmick by Sony for this movie. I certainly don't know anyone who was planning on seeing it before the whole fuss began.
Seeing as how the vast majority of North Koreans don't even have access to a computer, I find it impossible to believe the ones that do got organized and worked together to hack one of the biggest companies in the world. The disgruntled employee theory makes so much more sense.
That was the main point of the article I read (think it was on Gawker, I'm not even going to try and look on this tablet I'm forced to use because my laptop took a shit), hardly anyone there even has a computer, and internet access was basically non-existent then and completely non-existent now because China cut them off. We're talking about a country that has to power down the whole nation at night and probably thinks of a 3.5" disk as modern tech. They ain't hacking shit.
Norm was tweeting about it and a lot of people called him out for being dumb. I linked him to an article from gawker saying smart people think NK didn't hack Sony and he wrote: Oh, I se. Now that "smart" people are saying it, I'm not wrong. and it started a whole thing
It wasn't a marketing ploy. Too many people are going to lose their jobs and too many relationships in the movie business have soured over this. I think Sony is making the best out of a bad situation, but I think Amy Pascal should start thinking about a new line of work.
No worries! I'm totally going to watch Observe & Report and the Waltz movie after talking to you. I haven't seen them yet, so I may totally change my mind about this, but I'm not a big fan of his acting.
Did you see him on The Eric Andre Show? He was hilarious. He totally got the point of the show and made it funnier by perfectly adapting to it. It was the first time I liked him in something since Freaks & Geeks.
A lot of wrestlers do not wrestle the same match, and Zigglers face turn has really shown the limited amount of offensive moves he has. Yeah, it's entertaining watching him get the shit kicked out of him, but he's no more special than Randy Orton and I'm not going to crown Ziggler as this outstanding and creative entertainer.. and I'm not an Orton fan by any means.
But see my comment below, it's just common sense. Forget about hacking anything, 99.9% of people there don't have the ability to play fucking minesweeper, most of them don't even know what the concept of hacking is. And if they did, they would go after a far more valuable target then a movie studio.
They have to communicate with South Korea by fax machine. I forget how I found that out, but I remember hearing that and thinking, "Yep, these guys are the best hackers in the world. I buy that...."
They ("they" as in the ordinary citizens) didn't have access anyway, or any kind of device to use even if they did. And fuck Kim Jong, we need to take his ass out.
No shit? Missed that part. Guess it backfired then. Assuming it was a stunt, that makes me think it's just some homegrown dickhead starting trouble just for the sake of it.
I just looked it up. It was exactly one year ago when North Korea sent a threatening fax to South Korea. South Korea then laughed and told everyone else how funny it is.
Given the cult of personality that exists around him, I really don't think taking him out will accomplish anything. Another dictator would just take his place
Yep. I'm sure they have another guy in line in case someone bumps him off. I guess the real fear is his older brother who's completely crazy...like tinfoil hat, makes his own currency, jacks off to Field & Stream all day crazy.
I mean the whole government. We have far more justification then we ever did with Iraq, and they're such a joke we could probably do it with minimal bloodshed, especially if we can get China on board. Just tell them that when we're done they can have it.
Also, a lot of the country has been programmed to view SK and the US as the enemy, so us bumping him off wouldn't help matters at all. I don't know if anything can be done short-term, except wait for more North Koreans to become more aware of their surroundings.
From what I've read with all this technology and the world getting smaller, a lot of North Koreans, especially younger ones, are starting to figure it out.
Yep. China basically uses NK as the crazy guy everyone pays attention to instead of them. NK is basically controlled by China. There's no chance in Hell we'd ever attack NK because we don't want a war with China.
Disclaimer: I recently got accepted to law school so I haven't taken any courses on Constitutional Law but I know it's a required one. (I plan on working for a biglaw firm after I graduate so not sure if they really require that type of law in everyday practice.) I find it highly illogical that a business can say anything it wants. Case in point? Duck Dynasty. See, the problem we have is Americans apparently know more about "The Simpsons" than they do about the First Amendment. According to what I've researched, only one in four Americans can name more than one of the five freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment (freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly and petition for redress of grievances.) But more than half can name at least two members of the cartoon family, according to a survey. Hopefully, this controversy will bring some attention to the 1st Amendment because I actually do think this is a freedom of assembly issue. Remember that Obama got involved, so I think the Executive Branch is playing a chilling role, which thereby triggers the First Amendment protections. Sorry for the long response. Again, happy holidays.
Now that a lot of experts on this sort of thing believe the DPRK had no involvement with the hacks, will there be an acknowledgement or apology for the retaliatory attack against the DPRK's internet last week?
So, I was a bit off about the older brother. He got kicked out of the controlling party because he forged a passport to visit Disney World in Tokyo. He's a capitalist and basically just hangs out in China and wants nothing to do with NK. He basically just wants to go to Disney and gamble a lot. But yeah, if King Jong Un was killed, that guy would take over and no one in power in NK wants that.
I think someone else said Sony will get the pants sued off them if that's in fact the case. I forget the poster, but it was someone who works in media journalism, and he laid out the possible claims against them.
Russia's not as bad off as you'd think. They have a shit ton of money due to all the oil they control. They also have a LOT of allies. There's really no reason to go pissing off Russia.
I think Kim Jong is basically a puppet and a lot smarter people actually run the country. He's just a figurehead, so I don't see how killing him helps anything except causing a major power struggle that probably doesn't end well for anyone
The oil prices plummeting is why they're in trouble, their currency is about to collapse and the whole country is about to starve. And outside of China they have no significant allies, or at least any we can't convince to switch sides. That's we we need to get China to play ball.
I already went to law school. Make sure you get good professors for a Constitutional Law and Civil Procedure. Both those classes can be a bit messy and good profs can map it all out and patiently explain all of it. Also, a great book about civil procedure and how a lawyer who knows the system can beat a lawyer who doesn't is "A Civil Action." That was a really good book.
The Duck Dynasty guy can say whatever he likes. The government didn't make any laws stopping him. Businesses shyed away from the show for a while, but they're allowed to do that.
A wrestling example is Jay Briscoe. He said some very angry and hostile things about homosexual marriage and ROH stripped him of the title and took him off the show for a while. They're totally allowed to do that. Briscoe's still allowed to voice any opinion he wants.
Enjoy law school! It's not as bad as you hear. And Merry Christmas!
Did anyone read the king kong bundy interview? To summarize, he insults hbk, bret hart, horrowitz, koko b ware, my mom, vince russo, Vince mcmahon and probably Jesus. The only one he liked was hogan. He seems very bitter. Thats unheard of from a retired wrestler. Why cant Bayless post stuff like this? 100 comments. Easy.
The movie was expected to make at least $30 million in its first weekend. I don't think sabotaging their own movie when they've already struck out with a bunch of recent money losers was on the itinerary
"We're young and being held back!" is such a weird angle for wrestling. I mean, how do you get "held back" in kayfabe? We know as a behind-the-scenes thing that guys are held back, but if it's real, then they'd just... win matches... if they were any good, right?
I guess you could explain it that they didn't get good matches or main events or something. Still weird.
The biggest reaction I've ever heard for Ziggler was actually at King of Trios this year. One of the teams was the Spirit Squad (obviously sans Ziggler) and everyone was screaming and chanting for Ziggler. Of course noone actually thought he'd be there, the cheers were in jest, but it's still funny. That being said, the twice I've seen him live he got good pops, but the audience is trained to give the massive reactions to Cena,Orton, and noone else. That way they're justified in only pushing Cena and Orton because only they get massive reactions.
Sherri aged tremendously well. When she was inducted in the HoF she looked flat-out beautiful, which made her dying that much more tragic. She was like Elizabeth in reverse. And they're both gone and I've made myself sad.
The Harlem Heat reunion helped no one (Stevie Ray included). They really should have just put Booker T. with the Revolution group and given him the main event push.
I've said it many times, but I'll say it again. 'Fall Brawl' 1999: WarGames: The Match Beyond: Ric Flair & the Jersey Triad vs. Revolution. Hold Flair and Douglas til last entry to hype them finally getting to slug it out. Benoit taps out Kanyon or something to really validate the Revolution push.
Isn't Bundy the one who Bret mocked by drawing a picture of him eating a bag full of dicks on a poster-board in the locker-room or somesuch? If that story is true, Bret is either very brave, or very stupid. Or both.
Her ass should have been fired AGES ago. She's a racist, dumb blonde bitch who belongs on one of the FOXNEWS morning shows sucking conservative dicks and making lame-ass "Obummer" jokes.
"Or they should stop having good matches
ReplyDeleteand turn 40." This made me LMAO. And I still to this day have no idea who Chad Brock is. Macho Man vs. Rodman at Road Wild is a guilty pleasure of mine, "entertaining crap" borrowing (i.e. stealing) a phrase from Scott.

ReplyDeleteI'll be seeing it next week. A lot of people are going to be letdown when they realise it's not very good
ReplyDeleteGetting my MURICA on tomorrow somewhere in NJ, haha.
ReplyDeleteI'm so tired of the outrage over this movie not being released. ReplyDeleteI'll just leave this here. http://memebase.cheezburger.com/share/8408673280
ReplyDeleteI have no issue with Savage vs. Rodman. Savage is one of the biggest wrestling stars of all-time and Rodman is one of the biggest sports personalities in history. If WCW can get a guy like Rodman to help them get mainstream attention at a time when the WWF was kicking their butt week in and week out, more power to them.
ReplyDeleteWell there you go, America is vindicated, or something.
ReplyDeleteI can't figure out why so many people just LOVED that movie. I found it totally pedestrian and full of easy jokes.
ReplyDeleteBased on reviews I can wait.
ReplyDeleteI'm fine with having Rodman there as he certainly was a big deal, but it was more short term thinking for WCW that screwed them over in the end.
ReplyDeleteThat's not true. You can watch it on Xbox
ReplyDeleteThis whole thing stinks of bullshit. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if this was a publicity stunt to drum up controversy because no one knew about or cared about this shitty movie beforehand.
ReplyDeleteSeems like a lot of trouble for a stupid comedy.
ReplyDeleteThis. It was a movie studio pulling a release. It didn't "say" or "mean" anything. There was no "message" in their decision to do so.
ReplyDeleteMost reviews before the hack story said it was mediocre. I doubt anyone in North Korea had evenheard of it.
ReplyDeleteMight keep it in theatres long enough to make a few million it wouldn't have done otherwise.
ReplyDeleteGood, I was getting worried they would just give up after spending $44 million to make a movie and receiving a bunch of un(?)intended publicity.
ReplyDeleteBased on how shitty the movie looks, I would doubt their ability to come up with that elaborate of a scheme.
ReplyDeleteAm i the only one who thought the movie looked absolutely awful? The trailer and commercials were pure anti-comedy. Not even a smirk.
ReplyDeleteBut hey 10/10 for the marketing fellas!
Seth Rogen is a hack, and the movie looks like yet another uninspired comedy.
ReplyDeleteNot saying I disagree with you, but we do have freedom of speech, and we have gone to war with terrorists who threatened our daily freedoms.
ReplyDeleteUnrelated (and I know I might be late to this) but I no longer feel bad about how TNA treated AJ
ReplyDeletehttp://www.prowrestlingtees.com/checks-and-necks.html
I appreciate that they were accidents but seriously if this isn't a Dick move I don't know what is.
too bad Cena's unable to put anyone over as effectively as Bret put Austin over
ReplyDeleteMost wrestlers wrestle the same match--Randy Orton's happens to be awful and Dolph Ziggler's happens to be really good.

ReplyDeleteNobody's perfect.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I hear those three guys try to start a chant of 'NEW DAY' all I can hear is Mr. Burns saying 'NUDE, EH?'
ReplyDeleteGots to get your entertainment where you can.
Yeah, Sony let us

ReplyDeleteOne of the most depressing, yet funniest movies I've ever seen. The person I saw it with was so embarrassed by my reaction to the rape scene
ReplyDeleteIsn't Sony releasing it on Youtube?
ReplyDeleteNorm Macdonald was saying the same thing
ReplyDeleteTrue story, I actually saw that with my mom. She was in the mood for a movie and thought it'd be like Paul Blart because Goofy Stoner Seth Rogen was the lead, however much I told her what the subject matter was and how much it was compared to Taxi Driver in the reviews.

But yeah, if King Jong Un was killed, that guy would take over and no one in power in NK wants that.
ReplyDeleteI think someone else said Sony will get the pants sued off them if that's in fact the case. I forget the poster, but it was someone who works in media journalism, and he laid out the possible claims against them.
ReplyDeleteRussia's not as bad off as you'd think. They have a shit ton of money due to all the oil they control. They also have a LOT of allies. There's really no reason to go pissing off Russia.
ReplyDeleteNo and no, because fuck them.
ReplyDeleteI think Kim Jong is basically a puppet and a lot smarter people actually run the country. He's just a figurehead, so I don't see how killing him helps anything except causing a major power struggle that probably doesn't end well for anyone
ReplyDeleteYeah, a post below saying how the movie is going to totally bomb now says it wasn't a work.
ReplyDeleteThe oil prices plummeting is why they're in trouble, their currency is about to collapse and the whole country is about to starve. And outside of China they have no significant allies, or at least any we can't convince to switch sides. That's we we need to get China to play ball.
ReplyDeleteWhoa whao whoa now, Seth Rogen's movies are typically awesome.
ReplyDeleteI already went to law school.
ReplyDeleteThe Duck Dynasty guy can say whatever he likes.
I totally agree. I also think it's the same thing with the President of Iran. The crazy people take attention away from the real power.
ReplyDeleteWhat are you, a communist or something?
ReplyDeleteI dont think ive ever disagreed with you. Life isnt easy when we're right all the time.
ReplyDeleteAre we having a night thread here? I think I can post one, if no one else will.
ReplyDeleteOh, Fuck off with the hashtags Scott.

ReplyDeleteDid anyone read the king kong bundy interview? To summarize, he insults hbk, bret hart, horrowitz, koko b ware, my mom, vince russo, Vince mcmahon and probably Jesus. The only one he liked was hogan. He seems very bitter. Thats unheard of from a retired wrestler. Why cant Bayless post stuff like this? 100 comments. Easy.
He's a funny guy http://rs1img.memecdn.com/king-kong-bundy-says-how-it-is_o_1190804.jpg
ReplyDelete*light-bulb appears above head*
ReplyDeleteFunny that he confirms that Kamala wasn't paid well, since Kamala also said as much in his interviews on why he is broke now.
ReplyDeleteI agree, when he wants to show his skills, he usually can.
ReplyDeleteJust a socialist
ReplyDeleteThe movie was expected to make at least $30 million in its first weekend. I don't think sabotaging their own movie when they've already struck out with a bunch of recent money losers was on the itinerary
ReplyDeleteNow that's a movie that should have been re-released in 3,000 theaters this year, too bad Sony doesn't own it.
ReplyDelete"Remember how insufferable "This is the End" was?"
ReplyDeleteYou shut your whore mouth.
I accept him for what he is, and because of that I genuinely love the shit he's involved in.
ReplyDeleteI get a contact high just looking at Franco, but aside from that I also remember that the guy is a fantastic actor.
You may re-open your whore mouth.
ReplyDeleteGreat movie
If jackin' off to field and stream makes one crazy, then boy I aint ever wanna be normal
ReplyDelete"We're young and being held back!" is such a weird angle for wrestling. I mean, how do you get "held back" in kayfabe? We know as a behind-the-scenes thing that guys are held back, but if it's real, then they'd just... win matches... if they were any good, right?
ReplyDeleteI guess you could explain it that they didn't get good matches or main events or something. Still weird.
I see.
ReplyDeleteFunny, because Bundy seemed like one of the few guys to do almost all of his work on the indies, using his past cred to demand more money.
ReplyDeleteOh boo hoo! No Interview, but instead you get to be the home of David Cronenberg! Priorities man!
ReplyDeleteReleasing thousands of people's social security and medical insurance information isn't worth free publicity.
ReplyDeleteHaters cause they ain't us.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest reaction I've ever heard for Ziggler was actually at King of Trios this year. One of the teams was the Spirit Squad (obviously sans Ziggler) and everyone was screaming and chanting for Ziggler. Of course noone actually thought he'd be there, the cheers were in jest, but it's still funny.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, the twice I've seen him live he got good pops, but the audience is trained to give the massive reactions to Cena,Orton, and noone else.
ReplyDeleteThey didn't grab the brass ring.
ReplyDeleteI guess in the sense that they are not booked against any "name" guys or given title shots to make a name for themselves?
ReplyDeleteYeah, in theory it was OK seeing as Rodman's involvement seemed to give a slight boost to the BatB '97 and '98.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've never been a country fan, but to this day I've never heard of Chad Brock outside of this specific period in WCW
ReplyDeleteThe Harlem Heat reunion helped no one (Stevie Ray included). They really should have just put Booker T. with the Revolution group and given him the main event push.
ReplyDeleteI've said it many times, but I'll say it again.
ReplyDeleteI don't doubt that they really though Hulk Hogan changing clothes was going to help business.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Bundy the one who Bret mocked by drawing a picture of him eating a bag full of dicks on a poster-board in the locker-room or somesuch? If that story is true, Bret is either very brave, or very stupid. Or both.
ReplyDeleteHer ass should have been fired AGES ago. She's a racist, dumb blonde bitch who belongs on one of the FOXNEWS morning shows sucking conservative dicks and making lame-ass "Obummer" jokes.
ReplyDeleteYet....NOT on the Sony Playstation. Odd, that.
ReplyDeleteOne week until the awesome 6 man tag main event :)
ReplyDeleteAssumption would be they'd rather their competitor get attacked in retaliation than themselves.
ReplyDeletehaha the Eric Andre is great, Hannibal Buress cracks me up
