As officially announced by WWE. That would explain why Naomi was suddenly the top contender to the title after AJ made Nikki Bella tap on Sunday.
As officially announced by WWE. That would explain why Naomi was suddenly the top contender to the title after AJ made Nikki Bella tap on Sunday.
I'm not 100% surprised by this.
ReplyDeleteShe's looked like she's been phoning it in during her matches in recent times, and let's be honest, there wasn't really anything else for her to do that she hadn't done before.
Please Superman, if you're up there, have Playboy deliver her multiple dumptrucks full of cash.
For fans of AJ, this certainly isn't a...
ReplyDeleteGood Friday.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
I say we take off and nuke the main Diva roster from orbit.
ReplyDeleteWILL YOU STOP?!
ReplyDeleteI know it's hindsight, but great job in giving her the win at Mania. Super smart.
ReplyDeleteA petulant child, says I!
ReplyDeleteExcept this time, this one actually looks like a child....aa 10 year old boy!
Whoa!!! *moonwalks*
#ripfarva
Yep, light it up...
ReplyDeleteWe'll always have the Pipe Bombshell. Thank you for saying what needed to be said! ITS STILL REAL TO ME DAMMIT!
ReplyDeleteGotta say: the WWE locker room and their tattoo mockery along with the dumbass fans chanting "CM Punk" certainly did an excellent job at taking someone with a true passion for the business and driving her from the sport in the course of only about a year.
ReplyDeleteI thought she was still outside the ring selling from her mania match.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the models who have a lesser work rate than Snooki being the faces of the division
ReplyDeleteNo surprise here. With CM Punk coming up in the UFC, it wouldn't have looked good for his wife to still be involved with the company that he had such an ugly exit from.
ReplyDeleteNo one really cares about that. At all.
ReplyDeleteI really wouldn't be shocked if she said that fully knowing she was on her way out anyway.
ReplyDeleteI would guess absolutely none of that had anything to do with it.
ReplyDeleteUmmm you can bet CM Punk sure did care.
ReplyDeleteI love that promo because A) she didn't say anything that was incorrect and B) the Bellas proved their point because all they can do -- and still do -- is yell bitch and throw up the loser sign no one has used since 1998.
ReplyDelete"Talent is not sexually transmitted"...still one of the best lines of the PG Era.
ReplyDeleteFor those complaining about the quality of the Divas division with AJ's retirement, doesn't that make it more likely they'll call up a Sasha or a Charlotte (or both) sooner rather than later?
ReplyDeleteThere's no evidence to suggest that.
ReplyDeleteAJ's charm was that she was the "everywoman." Not Playboy material.
ReplyDeleteI'm not too enthused to watch NXT ladies looking up at the lights against Nikki Bella
ReplyDeleteI don't care, dammit!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete(But I agree with your point.)
Speculation: RAW crowd abusing the Divas last Monday the last straw?
ReplyDeleteNoooooooooooo.
ReplyDeleteLOL at her making the champ tap out in her final appearance though.
It's so easy to forget that at one point, AJ was the best thing about WWE TV. Then Vince named her Raw GM and it all went to shit.
ReplyDeleteYou must not understand the concept of a marriage then. Punk had an ugly exit. Hell the lawsuit with WWE doctors...obviously his wife working there is going to bother him. That's just common sense.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure something would be blocking out the lights, but fair point.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't surprise me. Even if they spared her pretty quick, that might've been the breaking point with the fans, who do nothing but shower her with Punk chants anyway
ReplyDeleteThey really need to start doing the Raw after Mania in a different town, because that behavior was fucking bullshit.
ReplyDeleteHer paired with Bryan was fantastic stuff
ReplyDeleteYou're probably right in that it made things awkward and that just wasn't gonna work for too long no matter what.
ReplyDeleteYes, and the foundation of a good marriage is the wife agreeing to do whatever her husband says.
ReplyDeleteOh, wait.
No it isn't.
Are there people that really think they'll ever give "diva" wrestling a chance? Maybe there's a little misogynist in me but it's just a waste of time whether it's a workrate wonder or whoever
ReplyDeleteShe wasn't in the ring for over half the match at 'Mania, but looked like she was having fun in the ring. I dunno...
ReplyDeleteThey didn't bury her. She had time off. She made her money. Sge worked for the company for nearly 6 months after his UFC announcement, and I've been happily married for 5 years with my baby girl coming in 2 days.
ReplyDeleteRetired from in-ring competition - is she actually leaving completely?
ReplyDeleteThat crowd was awful. Yeah SmarkMania was fun at first, but crowds who chant WE ARE AWESOME are anything but.
ReplyDelete"Honey, I want to stand in the way of your financial and career goals."
ReplyDelete"Sure thing, dear!"
Compromise and supporting one another is very important. Still working for the employer that may or may not have screwed your significant other over is a conflict of interest in said marriage.
ReplyDeleteI can't say I blame her. She and Paige had one of the better feuds in Divas history but that was all thrown away to push the Bella vs. Bella feud as a plot line on Total Divas. The reality show is all that matters for the girls these days, and since AJ has a soul and doesn't want to be on that mess, she's not really a huge factor. My guess is she didn't want to be built up again and have to carry a feud with Nikki, only to job to her yet again.
ReplyDeleteThe Bellas are the Kane and Big Show of the Divas division.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the baby! That's the stuff that really matters, not silly debates like these. No disrespect intended, I apologize.
ReplyDeleteWe need dueling WE ARE AWESOME/NO YOU'RE NOT chants
ReplyDeleteNone taken. Just Sayin'.
ReplyDeleteSame as the people who come to a show with a giant cutout of their own face, or a sign that just has their twitter handle on it. Yes, let's ruin the experience for everyone sitting behind you just so you can get yourself over on TV.
ReplyDeleteTrish and Lita main evented RAW, popped a final segment rating in line with the rest of the show, and cracked a lot of snowflakes. NXT women are often the best thing on the show. They can be as entertaining as their male counterparts if they ever they go get women who have been in the business and can work, and don't treat them like shit (like NXT does). But with Vince and Dunn in charge, it's just going to be endless charisma-less models hair pulling, rolling up, and calling each other whores, and that is a waste of time
ReplyDeleteI wonder if she sprung this on them out of nowhere today, or if she had been going about it the professional way. Strange that she would get to make the champ tap at Mania days before she left. If she did just spring this on them, then she obviously doesn't have any faith that they'll ever really "give the Divas a chance" or that things will really change there...and could you honestly blame her?
ReplyDeleteRVD can use her theme now, so it's not a total loss.
ReplyDeleteThey're average in the ring but WWE wants us to believe they're the second coming of Trish and Lita. I like Nikki as a heel, but not with those two as the stars of the division. Those two just do not work at that level and can't back it up in the ring.
ReplyDeletePunk left in January. AJ wrestled up until the night after Wrestlemania. I'm just saying is all.
ReplyDelete"I'd argue that Nikki alone is the Kane and Big Show of the Divas division."
ReplyDelete"Why's that, Brain?"
"Because she's just a couple of boobs!"
"WILL YOU STOP?!"
Where would she go? TNA? ROH? Are Simmer and Joshi still things?
ReplyDeleteCould be a Punk thing where they still love the business but are done with the bullshit of working there.
ReplyDeleteThey're just instant channel-changers for me. I don't care who they're in there with, and I don't care that I pledged to give Divas a chance. I just can't stand either of those two.
ReplyDeleteThe AJ-Kaitlyn feud helped get me back into regularly watching RAW and Smackdown after about a decade hiatus. It wasn't the only factor, but it was good enough to where I wanted to know what happened next, and it was something my wife was interested enough in to not complain about wrestling being on the TV.
ReplyDeleteThat ass in dress slacks though.
ReplyDeleteI'm only now learning her name is April Mendez. (Well, Brooks now)
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, it never occurred to me that her name wasn't AJ Lee.
Same. Took my piss break at Mania as soon as their entrances hit.
ReplyDeleteMy theory is that Punk is pregnant.
ReplyDeleteThat would make the most sense, although it's weird that she of all people -- the one who was spared the blushes -- would be the retiring one.
ReplyDeleteWasn't the concert after that match too?
ReplyDeleteWrestlemania 31
No, It's Cool. Get Back for Nachos. You've Got Time
I can tolerate them, but for me they lack presence. It's like they're constantly following a script instead of having any natural idea of how to work a match. If there was a bad botch, I picture them being completely lost as to what to do. It's like they're just following a list of things a heel should do instead of being heels if that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteGood for her to get out while she's healthy. Chill at home and watch Blackhawks and Cubs games with her husband, or have the free time to do anything else she wants to do? Sounds like a good gig to me.
ReplyDeleteThat got a laugh from me.
ReplyDeletePrego?
ReplyDeleteThey're the WWEs equivalent of the Kardashians. They want to prove they're famous for more than the frivolous reasons they're actually famous for (in Kim's case, she got into music/business/whatever just so she could say she was famous for something other than fucking Brandy's brother; in the Bellas case, they want to prove they're around for reasons other than being hot twins).
ReplyDeleteWell, at least the goddamn CM Punk chants will stop.
ReplyDeleteThey'll be replaced by We Want AJ chants, of course...
If he gives birth Alien Nation style.
ReplyDeleteNormally when someone leaves WWE, they just say that. There are plenty of WWE jobs that don't involve in-ring competition, so I was wondering if she will move into one of those rather than leaving outright.
ReplyDeleteRagu.
ReplyDeleteSomeone cue up the Spaceballs clip. "Not again!"
ReplyDeleteGoodnight Sweet Prince...ss
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alX4vwZNhH8
I'd buy that for a dollar.
ReplyDeleteRagu sisters?
ReplyDelete"Check please"
ReplyDeleteShe had to leave before they changed her name to just "Lee"
ReplyDeleteTwelve Years Later
ReplyDelete"What a fucking mark! Getting a tattoo of the date she realized her dream! What kind of stupid, frivolous bitch puts over a title in this company?"
*Is fired for using "title" and not "championship"*
ReplyDeleteOh it's clear WWE wanted to make them into Kardashian clones. I think AJ or Paige even called them that last week on Smackdown.
ReplyDeleteStill weird they treated her worse when Punk was around than they did post-Punk...the tattoo shit and the "Vickie passing out because stupid bitches pass out" nonsense
ReplyDeleteIf you're a fan and can't relate to this video you're lying. I always appreciated that AJ was a huge fan before crossing over as a performer.
ReplyDeleteWe can call this the Brian Bayless Celebration Spectacular. As great as Bayless is, I always disagreed with him about AJ.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, here's hoping she's healthy and happy. For a while, I thought she invented "AJ Lee heat"--she always got a sizeable pop and indiscernible cheers/boos in her matches. It was like she was over, but I could never pinpoint in what way (due to the fact that she was technically a heel, but the male crowd seemed to respect her just a bit). She had a few three star matches, which was groundbreaking for a "WWE Diva." She also knew her way around a mic. She got by on charm her first year, but for the last two years, she really knew how to get a feud/angle/motivation across to the audience. Maybe it's for the best, though. Charlotte and Sasha are about to blow everyone away.
She also can be at ringside, Rocky style, when he goes the distance/wins/gets killed in his first fight.
ReplyDeleteBefore. It went concert-Divas-HoF. I had actually got back to my seat after the concert was over, which I also didn't watch, and left again from the Bellas entrance to Rusev's entrance
ReplyDelete"Yo AJ! I did it"
ReplyDeleteOr
"That cactus is right, I've got to knock him up"
"I'M SCARED, OKAY?!"
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they'll chant something else that will annoy you. Don't worry.
ReplyDeleteDamn, even hot dogs are jealous of how much filler that is.
ReplyDeleteNow I want a Punk training montage set to "Hearts on Fire" after AJ screams at him "you can't win". We just need a Russian fighter to murder Colt Cabana.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she can have a meal now amirite
ReplyDelete"I'm so excited -- I'm so excited -- I'm so... scared........."
ReplyDelete(Sorry/not sorry)
You're alright.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Punk fills her up on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteWhat's Vladimir Kozlov doing these days?
ReplyDeleteSo if Punk is Rocky and AJ is Adrian, does that make Colt Paulie?
ReplyDeleteSo Kofi is Apollo?
ReplyDeleteColt is the dude that holds Rocky's spit bucket.
ReplyDeleteHe is if he keeps dancing like Apollo in his Rocky IV entrance
ReplyDelete*looks at recent post in this thread*
ReplyDeleteShould probably just get new fans.
http://www.dailymotion.com/strangerinthealps
ReplyDeleteNo AJ here either. But there is a new upload. The January 10, 1987 episode of NWA Pro Wrestling featuring Manny Fernandez & Rick Rude, Barry Windham, The Rock n Roll Express, Dick Murdoch, Big Bubba & The Midnight Express in six man action, Vladimir Petrov and Brad Armstrong, also promos up the wazoo.
I want Rampage to come back to UFC and be Mr.T/Clubber Lang. "Hey woman! Hey woman!"
ReplyDeleteI like how they didn't have her listed by her married name.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I see Stephanie or Nikki Bella taking credit for this..
Colt is Mickey.
ReplyDeleteColt is Mickey. Or maybe Apollo Creed, provided he gets murder-killed by Rusev or the Green Power Ranger or something.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte should debut on Raw and squash Nikki in 30 seconds for the title like the Warrior.
ReplyDeleteStephanie. The answer is always Stephanie. And, when Stephanie isn't on screen, the other Superstars can say "where's Stephanie?"
ReplyDeleteSo now Paige goes to the back burner and the reign of terror continues.
ReplyDeleteShe should also have access to a time machine.
ReplyDeleteWell, that was just a matter of time.
ReplyDeleteAny bets on the reason:
ReplyDelete1. She's prego
2.She's gotten tired of women in wrestling being treated like second-class citizens
3. Vince/Steph/HHH treated her like shit behind the scenes to spite Punk.
4. She feels like she's accomplished everything she can.
Any of those is believable. Sad to see her go. She was one of the better talents not only in the division but the WWE.
You know, just after Mania her Instagram said "2-0... going after the Taker's mark". It could be a "work" post, but it seems like the likely answer is she had a physical and something unusual was discovered.
ReplyDeleteShe can look to me for consoling. I'll take her tanning. And by tanning I mean her backside. With my hand.
ReplyDeleteI think they really should just sit down and plan the next 12 months of the divas division by just moving the nxt women to the main roster en masse and just experiment with a proper women's division just to see if it drums up ANY interest in the main audience. It wouldn't exactly cost them anything.
ReplyDeleteI'm really hoping it's either 1 or 4, because while 2 and 3 are plausible, they would make me turbo-sad.
ReplyDeleteOther than the lack of being able to say "as you've seen on Total Divas."
ReplyDeleteWorld Wrestling Entertainment
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...no.
You know for someone who is so righteous, why doesn't stephanie have the divas backs? surely she would want a strong divas division...i never got that.
ReplyDeleteOr she just retired because the environment is probably toxic considering who her husband is?
ReplyDeleteThey're not man enough like she is.
ReplyDeleteThat's possible, sure. I did say "likely" and not "certain".
ReplyDeleteI'll miss AJ. She was a good wrestler.
ReplyDeleteLook in my eyes
ReplyDeleteWhat do you see
Someone who's about to peace
I've done it all
I don't need this shit
Fuck all of you, I'm out, I quit
Or she just retired because she's wondering who her husband is fucking while she's on the road?
ReplyDeleteOr she should win back the NXT title and show up on Raw claiming to be the REAL world's champion.
ReplyDeleteShe sees herself as above everyone on the roster. The males are obviously a bigger, more important part of the roster.
ReplyDeleteThe diva's division is so far beneath her... in her eyes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2I_cM50_QwY
ReplyDeleteWho's laughing at Primo now?
Primo - 1
AJ - Nothing!
Can she break a wooden chair over Cole's back?
ReplyDeletebut they can absolutely do that as well, they could easily merge the two, have the lesser workers (the bellas) head up the divas stuff....the ones that can't hang on E! shows be the work horses, and the girls that can do both...make them the top girls (im looking at you sasha banks)
ReplyDeleteAdd her to the list of "unlikely Hall of Famers"
ReplyDelete... are now being ruined by Stephanie McMahon.
ReplyDeleteFTFY
They need a petite diva with wrestling skills, so Sasha will be coming up soon.
ReplyDeleteShe found out that Punk had his eyes on Paige and figured she had to get home and distract him toot sweet.
ReplyDeleteSteph's response when AJ told her...
ReplyDeletehttps://youtu.be/FM0juvhf7Z4?t=8m51s
even more important: if they give them the opportunity and the right conditions for it.
ReplyDeletefor example, AJ Lee, Eve Torres and Vickie Guerrero have all been very over at one point. and one of the biggest reasons was that they did something that seemed to MATTER - which in the WWE unfortunately means almost every time: interacting with the male workers and be a part of one of their storylines.
(it's also why Trish Stratus was as over as she was: she too was involved in several feuds/programs that seemed to MATTER. it's really that easy and all there is to it. put on angles and matches that have some importance to them and the crowd will usually care for those involved)
She was the top of the divas roster in regards to the full package.
ReplyDeleteAlmost positive he didn't show them those pics as a kid until he won the world title from JBL. Up to that point he was like 'yeah I only watch football, JR, promise'.
ReplyDeleteThose are my exact sentiments towards Punk actually.
ReplyDeleteYou got CM Punk and AJ Lee, two lifelong wrestling fans who work hard to make it to WWE. And the internal bullshit of WWE is so terrible that they leave when they're still in their primes, walking away from millions of dollars they could potentially make.
ReplyDeleteGranted, Punk is a grade-A asshole, but plenty of those have been in WWE and stuck it out.
Like father, like daughter. I wouldn't put it past her either.
ReplyDeleteHated her on the mic, didn't believe her as a wrestler, hated her Avril laveigne gimmick.
ReplyDeleteThank you, AJ.

Like I said in the daily thread, what are the odds that they make it storyline that the Bellas ran her out?
ReplyDeleteYou know what the best part is? She left without having to e̶m̶b̶a̶r̶r̶a̶s̶s̶ ̶h̶e̶r̶s̶e̶l̶f̶ put someone over (most like likely Stephanie of Nikki) before she bounced.
ReplyDeleteYou can dislike her look... but her talent was clear. She was the only diva who could get on the mic and sound like she wasn't reading scripted lines.
ReplyDelete*fart*
ReplyDelete"This was pretty big for Undertaker, as the feud really humanized him and finally gave him something to do that wasn’t just “goofy heel steals the urn and something something magic powers” over and over."
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine if they were still doing this shit today? Imagine having some younger up and coming talent do this then just lose with no comeback at Wrestlemania? That would be silly.
You could be right. I'm thinking of every WM after 21 and theres some really good shows overall, and some killer matches, but each event has some horrid show killing bs to go with it, 22 had that boogeyman stuff and the horrid rey mysterio push, 23 had two awesome main events and a great mitb but everything (and i mean everything) else was horrid. 24 had the stupid umaga/batista stuff and the chavo squash (but is still a great show) 25 was garbage other than one match, 26 had the bret/vince show killer, and a disappointing world title match, 27 was one of the worst, 28 was fun, 29 was a one match show, 30 was excellent but even that has a meaningless squash, a terrible divas match and a god awful taker match that is only saved by the shocking ending. Every match on 31 literally has something worth seeing, even the taker match which I'd consider to be the worst match on the card is very watchable, even the pre show matches and the divas matches are all quite good...and to top it off an excellent main event (which could easily make it's way on any top 10 best wm matches) and one of the greatest mania endings ever. You ARE right...it's definitely one of the best wm shows ever. I think some people's inability to see that is based on the fact that WWE as a company literally deserve a show that good with the year they've had.
ReplyDeleteNot surprising at all. Hasn't Vince been doing this for decades? At least back to the '92 Rumble with the reaction to Hogan getting tossed.
ReplyDeleteThat's not what I got from it.
ReplyDeletemy point is it was a good wrestling show or it wasn't, that's up for debate.
A good "sports entertainment" show isn't a thing no matter how bad Vince wants it to be

That's a great comparison actually. Vince has such a hard-on for the jock hero type character (Shawn, Made in the USA Lex Luger, Cena) and thinks that is what gets over with the common wrestling fan.
ReplyDeleteShane isn't around to put the SMURF into full effect, so Vince would probably play hardball with you.
ReplyDelete
