Hi Scott
As lists appear to be all the rage around here, I thought I'd send one for when you're in a masochistic mood.
What would you consider to be the best (or least horrible) match in the following categories:
1) Undertaker-Kane
2) Cena-Orton
3) HHH-Orton
4) Undertaker prior to 1996
5) Flair after 2001
6) Big Show
7) Kane
8) Khali
9) 'Hollywood' Hogan in WCW
10) Vince
11) Dusty
12) MizCheers
Good morning, and welcome to Day 2 of the post-dated extravaganza. As you read this, it’s currently Victoria Day here in Canada, during which we celebrate the life and career of Lisa Varon. It’s a very specific stat holiday.
OK, a list, that’s just terrific. Thanks heaps.
1. The first one at WM14 is still my favorite of a bad lot.
2. The Iron Man match, complete with Orton trying to murder Cena like a cartoon supervillain via exploding pyro table. It’s not a great match technically and fails on a lot of levels, but I can appreciate the sentiment.
3. The last man standing match they had at that PPV where HHH wrestled 14 times after Cena was injured. You know, that one.
4. I gotta go with him squashing the shit out of Jake Roberts at WM8. Really kicked off the babyface formula for him that worked incredibly well for years to come. I was about to throw Bret v. UT from Rumble 96 in your face, but then I realized you technically asked for “prior” to 96 and thus that one is just outside qualification.
5. The HHH cage match at Taboo Tuesday.
6. In general? He’s had some good matches. I’ll go with the stunningly great series against Lesnar in 2003, for example, when Show was wearing pants for some reason. Runner up would be his Hogan impression against Kurt Angle at Backlash 2000 for sheer entertainment value.
7. Kane’s also had his share of good matches. He was on a really impressive run from 2001-2004, in particular, before the unmasking. Discounting MITB and such, gotta go with the Kurt Angle miracle match featuring Mirror Universe Angle as my favorite. Close second would be the IC title match with Albert that almost hit **** somehow.
8. Now you’re just fucking with me. His initial series against Undertaker wasn’t terrible.
9. Probably one of the Flair matches, because Ric could get ***1/2 out of him in his sleep. The Luger title change on Nitro was hella-exciting but total horseshit as a match.
10. Street Fight with Shane at WM17!
11. Dusty actually had lots of great matches when he gave enough of a shit in the ring. Unfortunately by the time he was on the national stage with Crockett, that time had long passed. I’ve seen more than a few really good ones with Harley Race from the 70s in Florida, so I’d go with that.
12. Cena actually got a really good one out of him after their shit WM match, I think. I’ll go with the safe choice, however, and say the Daniel Bryan US title change match, unless someone can think of a really epic **** Miz singles match that I’m blocking out of my mind.
I will happily celebrate Lisa Marie Varon.
ReplyDeleteKhali and Undertaker had a pretty good Last man Standing match on SmackDown the week before SummerSlam '06. The match got bumped from the PPV so I guess they were pissed off and extra motivated.
ReplyDeleteMiz/Morrison for the Title, opening what I think was the first RAW of the year in 2011, was really good. I think I've seen it ranked at ****
ReplyDeleteKurt Angle's WM 18 performance vs. Kane is truly one of the greatest. Angle brought EVERYTHING to that match, to the point he became the face by the end.
ReplyDeleteAs for Khali, probably the best match I saw him have was with HBK (quel surprise) on a Raw in 06 or 07. It was like Shawn was saying to the rest of the roster, "See, this is how you do it. Learned it from working with Sid."
ReplyDeleteAnd not only are we celebrating Lisa Varon up here, but the Secret Catalogue as well. We enjoy our holidays in Canada.
What about Kane vs. Albert from Smackdown on 2001 I think? GREAT power match...
ReplyDeleteThe Miz/Cena/Morrison cage match after WM27 was great
ReplyDeleteKane single-handidly wining the TLC in Las Vegas was probably his peak
ReplyDeleteI want to say Miz and Morrison had an awesome raw match.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to Kanre: In the context of chaos and brawling, the KOTR 1st Blood vs. Austin was a great performance. His debut match with Mankind was wild, too. There's the obvious series of matches with Angle and Benoit. The mask vs. title match with Triple H was a really good TV main event, and his path of destruction that followed included a few good matches with RVD. I really have no memory of 2006-2011, but I agree with Scott, he's hardly the worst worker, just long in the tooth and over-used at this point of his career.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty darn good.
ReplyDeleteI'm probably the only one who remembers it, but in the early days of Main Event (when it was on ion), Miz had a terrific match with Kofi Kingston for the IC Title. 20-minutes of awesome... yes, I said it.
ReplyDeleteI wanna celebrate Victoria Day too!
ReplyDeletehttp://i.imgur.com/s42uRpU.jpg
Khali and Cena had a super fun street fight/ anything goes types match in 07' and it rocked. Cena really came in to his own once he started fighting Edge regularly.
ReplyDelete1) I'll for WM14. None of their matches were particularly good but the first one at least had the aura of an equally unstoppable monster facing the Undertaker.
ReplyDelete2) I haven't seen them all and can hardly differentiate between the ones I have seen.
3) None of their one-on-one matches did much for me but I liked the six man where Orton won the title while Triple H was stretchered out - the finish their WM match should have had.
4) I liked the Survivor Series 1991 match. Undertaker technically cheated but it didn't feel like Hogan could beat him anyway.
5) I don't care about Ric Flair, but I think that one he had on Raw in 2003 against Triple H was good and everyone came out to kiss his ass afterwards.
6) Even if there have been good ones he bores to too much to have enjoyed them.
I'm bored with this now.
Brock Lesnar invading Miz T.V. DEMOLISHING the set and DEMOLISHING the Miz was *****.
ReplyDeleteBret actually did get a good match out of ZombieTaker, at the January or February MSG show. A real feather in his cap, with no sarcasm or irony (tears, eyes, blah blah blah). Actually, the Undertaker-Warrior bodybag match is also a lot of fun and everything you would want out of that match-up. Both matches are UT working like a statue and the babyface just frantically throwing everything at the wall trying to hurt him, which is the only way a ZombieTaker match can really work.
ReplyDeleteAnd even that was shadowed with the start of you know what after.
ReplyDeleteDear Scott
ReplyDeleteI know you're out of town but drop what your doing and review Payback. Now.
Sincerely,
BOConscience
that the one where Kofi hit Trouble in Paradise wayyy too soon after Miz came off the ropes and busted him open?
ReplyDeleteNot THAT victoria silly pants.
ReplyDeleteMy list:
ReplyDelete1) Undertaker-Kane--pure spectacle and all Russo--the Inferno match!
2) Cena-Orton--aren't they all the same?
3) HHH-Orton--ditto
4) Undertaker prior to 1996--Survivor Series 1995 where he destroyed an entire team by himself.
5) Flair after 2001--HHH in 2003.
6) Big Show--2004 Royal Rumble...he took everyone's finisher then almost won.
7) Kane--Besides the Inferno match, um...Royal Rumble 2001...he eliminated 11 wrestlers.
8) Khali--if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Applies here.
9) 'Hollywood' Hogan in WCW--Chickenshit heel Hogan, taken with a grain of salt--Savage at Halloween Havoc '96.
10) Vince--St. Valentine's Day Massacre where he was rightfully massacred.
11) Dusty--Starrcade '85 where he "won" the NWA title (for a week).
12) Miz--ask Mick Foley.
I don't think so. There definitely wasn't any blood in this one.
ReplyDeleteTriple H-Khali was really good too.
ReplyDeleteyep, Cena was on fire doing that period. having not classic, but at least good/watchable matches with everyone.
ReplyDeleteYou celebrate YOUR way, I'll celebrate mine.
ReplyDeleteanother contender would be the Bryan/Miz/Morrison submissions count anywhere match.
ReplyDeleteCena vs Khali was actually a great match.
ReplyDeleteEasily the most enjoyable wrestling moment involving The Miz in my lifetime.
ReplyDeleteThe Cesaro swing into the barrier was one of my favorite .gif's for a while.
ReplyDeleteThere was a really good Miz vs Morrison RAW match that was around the **** mark. It was some kind of no-holds-barred match, possibly a Last Man Standing or Falls Count Anywhere match. Been a while since I saw it but I remember it being good.
ReplyDeleteKhali had some shockingly decent main event matches against Cena and HHH respectively.
My favourite Cena-Orton match is still their SummerSlam match, from way back when that matchup was still fresh.
I wouldn't say it's his "best" match, but my favourite Kane match is the Hardcore triple threat match from WM17 with Big Show and Raven. One of the few WWE comedy matches to actually be funny.
Pre-1996 Undertaker: I'll take Royal Rumble '94 for the car-wreck atmosphere. Everything else is just bad, but forgettable. This was full scale Russo before Russo was even around. The 10-on-1 disadvantage for the 10, the smoke coming out of the urn, draining 'Taker of his powers, the casket cam and promo, the levitating Marty Jannetty in Taker clothes... wow.
ReplyDeleteI loved the Flair-Foley I Quit bloodbath but I'm a sick sonuvagun.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Flair match has to be the one in TNA where the ref had to pull his tights up for him. So hilariously sad that it's somehow awesome.
ReplyDeleteI go Hogan-Goldberg. It was not a "great" match but it was an epic one. Hogan's face after Goldberg takes the weightlifting belt from him is worth 5 stars alone.
ReplyDeleteThe correct answer for #3 is WM 25
ReplyDeleteNever mind, WM 25 is the worst of the worst
ReplyDeleteWrestling advertisers are primarily kids stuff, like candy, soda and games. Nothing like car companies, major brands (Coke, Pepsi) among other things.
ReplyDeleteActually I think ISIS has an easier time selling pre-roll on their videos than Dixie does selling ads on Impact.
ReplyDeleteAnd they don't have a partnership with Sheamus OR Batista? Shame.
ReplyDeleteCold. Correct, but cold.
ReplyDeleteIt is absolutely, positively, ridiculously insane to me that WCW never did a Goldberg vs. Hogan rematch. Talk about leaving money on the table.
ReplyDeleteThen again, this is the company that booked Goldberg as champion as an afterthought despite him being their hottest star, so I shouldn't be surprised. Hogan had matches against Karl Malone and Jay Leno that were apparently more important.
Mountain Dew energy drinks are their big money maker right now if I had to guess.
ReplyDeleteI watch mad men. Your sister just needs to bang someone to get them to buy wrestling.
ReplyDeleteBut only after
ReplyDelete1) The Rock came out and called him that, and
2) He was opposed by Cocoa Pebbles sensation Kyrie Irving.
"Mountain Dew energy drinks" just sounds redundant.
ReplyDelete$5.50 A Sizzler coupon only good for lunch, and a 56th round draft pick.
ReplyDeleteAnd introduce some bourbon to the meeting.
ReplyDeleteYeah if your company is trying to reach a demo of "people on dialysis" then pro wrestling is a pretty good ad buy
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine the side effects one would get from drinking a can of that shit.
ReplyDeleteClearly someone hasn't grasped the timeless wonder of tearing into the spice in order to achieve that big, big juicy taste.
ReplyDeleteI'll never forget:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzDkjGcj-v0
"But it's got electrolytes, it's what plants crave."
ReplyDeleteA post titled Best of the Worst without a reference to Rich Evans is a disgrace.
ReplyDeleteSeriously dude. I felt BAD about that legit.
ReplyDeleteNever watched Mad men actually. Is that what the one with insanely huge cans always does?
ReplyDelete"Glucerna Shakes Presents: WWE Smackdown"
ReplyDeleteI remember one of the Apter mags giving WCW ish when Jim Ross called someone getting thrown into the post the "Coors Light" ringpost, saying kids watch this ish and stuff.
ReplyDeleteNow? They only wish they could get any of the Coors companies.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
ReplyDeleteRoh seems to be doing fine with Super Beta Prostate
ReplyDeleteThis is like the 30th time he's been arrested. Dude would make Scott Hall blush.
ReplyDeleteKhali's matches with UT were totally terrible...the one with Cena was actually kinda decent. I think that was One Night Stand '07. Maybe? Something around then.
ReplyDeleteI'm literally afraid to drink energy drinks. I work with people that drink them by the case and I just can't imagine.
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't understand more is that the week after, people were complaining about how bland Byron Saxton was on only his second week on the job. Well, there you go, people. You get what you deserve, because now we'll probably never get rid of Cole.
ReplyDeleteIs this the same Doug Exeter from the Deadspin comment section?
ReplyDeleteYup, and yet another reason why they'll never turn that fucking guy heel.
ReplyDeleteI met her at Wizard World 2011. Awesome chick! She was really funny, gave me a free photo, chatted long after her handlers were trying to get her to stop. Total class act.
ReplyDeleteIt's really beginning to sound like DA didn't realize what they were buying into. If that's the case, TNA is doomed. It's what I keep saying: it's not always about the wrestling business, but the TV business sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI'd imagine they'd give a coke-fueled Hogan promo from WrestleMania IV.
ReplyDeleteAt this point, I could probably almost afford to buy ad time on DA during Impact for my shoot interview recaps.
ReplyDeleteThe Briscoes introducing that commercial is the highest of high comedy.
ReplyDeleteShe did it once, basically against her will, but moved up from Secretary to Partner after.
ReplyDeleteFormer co-worker of mine tried to sell me on 5-Hour Energy. He said, and I quote, "once you get past your nose burning from the niacin burn, it's actually pretty good".
ReplyDeleteNo. I will not get past my nose burning, TYVM.
Screw either or.
ReplyDeleteISIS has deep pockets. Vince needs to make some calls.
JBL: We're live MAGGLE here at the beautiful ISIS Luxury Hotel here in Mosul for Ramadan Rampage live on the WWE Network!
You drive a hard bargain, sir.
ReplyDeleteDoes the coupon include a beverage?
Haha...awesome. Anytime someone tells me to try something and it has an "acquired taste," I pass.
ReplyDeleteWould have been the perfect sponsor for Ziggler/Sheamus and the Kiss Me Arse Match.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's looking more and more like that.
ReplyDeleteAs pointed out, Spike and USA had been able to pull wrestling viewers into their programming. What are TNA fans gonna watch? In fact, what the heck is on DA that's watchable?
Early depiction of the patriarchy amirite???!
ReplyDeleteIve never had any problem with 5 hour energy (it really helps when driving a long way and getting sleepy), but the knockoff 6 or 7 hour versions are heartache inducing crap.
ReplyDeleteLos Angeles will NEVER accept the Clippers, because they'll always be considered second fiddle. Even when the Clippers were up 3-1 and it looked like they'd win, Lakers fans were coming out and going "Yawn! So what if they win a title? Call me when they win TEN titles!" This, despite the fact that the Lakers are in the toilet and just finished with the worst record in franchise history.
ReplyDeleteWhen the final score went up at yesterday's Dodger game, the crowd POPPED! That's downright harsh.
NO they have to make SOME profit!
ReplyDeleteI always read that as, "This tastes like ass but I'm eating it for some reason and so should you some time."
ReplyDeleteBut could you easily afford to have TWO homes?
ReplyDeleteSounds like a Kickstarter idea.
ReplyDeleteThis is actually a brilliant idea. We should set up a gofundme or something and buy a spot for the Blog on TNA
ReplyDeleteI would 100% buy into pooling some money and buying a ridiculous ad on Impact.
ReplyDeleteJust a sixty second scroll of Baker posts.
ReplyDeleteNo, but it would give the illusion that I could. Make a certain someone jealous
ReplyDeleteBeing in the half of the cable universe that doesn't get the channel... couldn't tell ya.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm........
ReplyDeleteDon't call me, I'll call you.
"Jelly" is how the kids say it today. Try to stay relevant.
ReplyDeleteYeah, what we need is more idiot trolls.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't see how they couldn't use that as a lead-in for Impact.
ReplyDeleteWonder how much a 30 second ad costs during Impact. Maybe if we volunteer to pay for Bob Ryder's catering bill they'd cut us a deal?
ReplyDeleteSons
ReplyDeleteYep. I assume everything has a taste that could be acquired given enough time.
ReplyDeletestick of "beef"
ReplyDeleteYou may remember me from such informational videos as WAR, huh, What is it REALLY good for . . .
ReplyDeleteI can make a certain dude Jelly by getting that sweet ad-time, yo. Dat hip enough for all the young playas?
ReplyDeleteThat's not hard. All you need is some ambition, marketing know-how and $7.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we'd finally get a good one?
ReplyDeleteBet Vince wishes tobacco companies could still advertise on TV.
ReplyDeleteBaller.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what you just said.
ReplyDelete*Balla
ReplyDeleteI find putting the R on the end makes a big difference.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Because that is English, motherfucka's.
ReplyDeleteI feel like it's worth mentioning again as a basketball fan in Los Angeles, but the Lakers fans are walking around with a swagger and popping off over the Clippers choke.
ReplyDeleteThe Lakers just finished with the worst record in franchise history with no reason to believe they're about to get better. Is there any other fanbase with less of a right to be walking with a swagger than the Laker fans?
BoD RAW, shoot interviews, Roman Reigns emails, RAW Recaps, Baker posts, Caliber email chain, and more!
ReplyDeleteOld man
ReplyDeleteLaker Bros:
ReplyDeletehttp://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--6sGrU7yX--/185wsu7f62b33gif.gif
1000/1000 black guys agree!
ReplyDeleteThat just says it all in a nutshell, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteSo the trolls we have are what we deserve but not the ones we need right now? Straight up Dark Knight here...
ReplyDeleteYou want us to all go broke!
ReplyDeleteI'd go with Miz's WWE title match on Raw in...probably January '11 with Morrison. Great match. I'd have to watch it again but I remember it being ****ish.
ReplyDeleteKhali would have to be with either HHH or Cena; I'd say HHH at whatever Summerslam that was.
The rest I largely agree with, though I seriously think Reigns/Show from last month is a strong contender for best Show match ever.
Old enough to take you to school, whippersnapper.
ReplyDeletehttp://v016o.popscreen.com/YU1zWXI4ZlMxQ2Mx_o_30-helens-pens.jpg
ReplyDeleteThe fuck is that from?! lol
ReplyDeleteBecause TEH LAKERS ARE GETTING ALL THE FREE AGENTS!
ReplyDelete"Titus O'Neil is like Kobe Bryant at a hotel in Colorado. He's unstoppable!"
ReplyDeleteMonthy Pythons
ReplyDeleteI'd figure a few family meals at KFC, 12 pack of taco bell tacos, 24 Cinnabon buns, bucket of cole slaw, and a shitload of Buffalo Wild Wings.
ReplyDeleteThe Lakers are going to stink again next year, too. They're not signing anyone of value. And they might not even have their pick after tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteAs a Manchester United fan, we shit on Manchester City the same way. Then they won two titles, one in horrendous breaking our hearts fashion, and it was fucking annoying.
ReplyDeleteHow have they not brought back the Godwins to cross market??? They are leaving money on the table!
ReplyDeleteGood call, he's not eating anything fancy.
ReplyDeleteKids in the Hall.
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not the only one who loved that Miz/Morrison match. I think it was falls count anywhere, now that you mention it.
ReplyDeleteSomeone would definitely scream at her for not being a "real" fan of the product.
ReplyDeleteIt's close between that and his WM27 video set to "Hate Me Now" by Nas.
ReplyDelete2010-early 2011 Miz was fucking great. Yeah, I said it.
Yeah, that's hilarious to me. The Clippers have one 56+ games in the last 3 seasons while the Lakers' only point of relevance has been being a hilarious disappointment or being awful. The Clippers ran out of gas and their lack of depth beyond CP3/Blake/Deandre killed them in the end.
ReplyDeleteI have 3 Mets fitteds (all blue home, all black road, and the all blue BP with Mr. Met), 1 Rays fitted for my weeknight baseball team, 1 Lakewood Blueclaws hat for my weekend softball team, and 1 black and red St. John's fitted. I'm not big into hats or shoes.
ReplyDeleteI got it: A Go Fund Me for an ad that states "TNA IS DOING OKAY!" Our goal is to let people know that TNA is okay and to pay Bob Ryder's catering bill from the last tapings. Who is with me?
ReplyDeleteHow easy do you think it would be to swindle TNA? Like if I called Dixie and I said I was willing to invest $5 million in the company, how far do you think I could string her along until she figured out I don't have that kind of money?
ReplyDeleteKids in the Hall
ReplyDelete"Hate the show you are watching right now? Go bitch about it on Scott Keith's Blog of Doom!!! Its ONLINE!!!"
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonder why they haven't made Anthony Sullivan co-host of Impact by now. He gets more airtime during Impact than nearly all the wrestlers.
ReplyDeleteStretch (marks) goal: Pay for Bob Ryder's dessert cart.
ReplyDeleteCan we make the person pimping TNA as laughably gay as the kid that loves WWE and works at WalMart?
ReplyDeleteYou'd probably have appeared on TV several times
ReplyDeleteI'm in for *checks wallet* a receipt from Taj Palace Indian Restaurant!
ReplyDeleteThere was like a small window in 1999 where major advertisers wanted to get on the WWF train, but the combination of Owen Hart and the PTC pressure killed that dead.
ReplyDeleteRight, that's what I'm thinking. I'd at least make it through one taping cycle.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what you could buy TNA outright for at this point.
ReplyDeleteDat Fresh, yo
ReplyDeleteEpisode #2 of WWE Swerved right there.
ReplyDeleteHow much do you have?
ReplyDeleteAnd the Benoit tragedy reanimated the corpse and killed it again.
ReplyDeletetwenty bucks as long as you sign a contract saying Dixie can stay
ReplyDeleteWow was that commercial embarrassing to watch in front of non-fans last night.
ReplyDeleteSteve Allen...Wrestlings biggest swerve heel turn
ReplyDeleteYou know, I always liked Vince vs. Austin from St. Valentine's Massacre (Big Show's debut). Maybe it's because I had such low expectations for Vince and was pleasantly surprised to see him bump like a maniac. Plus, the ending was pretty original (and got everyone's hopes up that WWE would give Big Show a huge push right off the bat).
ReplyDeleteI really didn't know that the prank shows were still popular with the kids.
ReplyDeleteDick Clark and Ed McMahon are rolling over in their graves.
....aaaaaaaaaaand I just dated myself once again.
Back in 2002, Panda Energy purchased the 71% backing position for the company for $250,000
ReplyDeleteThe connection is the thing and it's hard to just manufacture with another guy.
ReplyDeleteI tried one. They're terrible.
ReplyDeleteMmmm....No doorman, no muscle, posting videos
ReplyDeleteWhat is....Strangers lobby, body, and hobby?
You're better off buying magic beans from some shady bean vendor.
ReplyDeleteMarv there's a new underskill, he only has 43 posts. Who is it? You know these things.
ReplyDeletePTC was kind of a big deal. I think steroids, concussions, lack of any real trust in Vince not to do something insane (imagine if that Trish Stratus "Bark Like A Dog" segment ran today. WWE would absolutely get cancelled) are bigger deals though.
ReplyDelete*guffaws* Hi-yoooo
ReplyDeleteSame rando as usual. I like him much better lol
ReplyDeleteYeah, having a PG double as your best player has never been a great recipe for championships unless it's a very deep team. When the guy who runs your team's offense is also their most reliable scorer, it's a lot easier to completely shut the team down. You either force the PG to play shelfishly and take everyone else out of it, or key in on him and watch the rest of the team play like chickens with its head cut off. Same way the Celtics and Magic used to beat LeBron all the time.
ReplyDeleteThe Clippers have nothing beyond CP3/Blake/Deandre. You can't put the last 3 losses on him because him and the other two were literally the only people on the team doing anything of consequence.
The "Bark Like A Dog" segment was still apparently enough to haunt Linda McMahon's Senate campaign.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.wrestlecrap.com/inductions/bark-like-a-dog/
Wait what?
ReplyDeleteFigure it's fair to give parallax's blog a plug because of a cool article he posted a link to:
ReplyDeletehttp://getridofcable.net/blog
The Fan TV box is a really cool idea, I just wish they supported Dish Network instead of lower than cracked out gutter slime Time Warner Cable.
$2.50 and a jawbreaker
ReplyDeleteInteresting note: Right around the time Bryan got fired from WWE for the choking incident, Paul Heyman was in discussions with TNA. One of the idea Heyman pitched was to poach Bryan and build to a Kurt Angle vs. Daniel Bryan feud. Of course, TNA refused to hire Heyman and Bryan ended up back in WWE anyway.
ReplyDeleteThat was pre TV deal. So their value probably went up significantly with Spike, but has to have taken a huge hit with DA.
ReplyDeleteI'd bet you could buy it for 5 million.
Khali-HHH from SummerSlam is a surprisingly solid match (i.e. great by Khali standards), but not quite up there with that Cena match at whatever PPV the year before.
ReplyDeleteWell, of course. Why give Heyman a flyer when you could hire Vince Russo for the third or fourth time and pay him under the table, hiding him from Spike TV the whole time?
ReplyDeleteOther than Michael Cole/Heidenreich, that's about the rapiest segment WWE ever put on. And that Wrestlecrap article highlighting the frat bros cheering wildly in the background.
ReplyDeleteSo, so cancelled if that happened in today's environment.
Remember when RC Edge Cola was their biggest sponsor? Whatever happened to that drink anyway?
ReplyDeletesnitch
ReplyDeleteHas anyone gotten more mileage from a single segment than Big Show's Hogan impersonation? It is the first thing defenders go to to prove he's more that a pile of useless shit.
ReplyDeleteI mentioned this earlier, but its really hard to pin a lot of these second round losses on Chris Paul. History has shown that teams that have no depth or have their distributor doubling as its best player never succeed. It has to be a strong ensemble like the Showtime Lakers or Bad Boy Pistons for that to work. Teams have beaten the Hornets and Clippers by forcing Paul to be a one-man show. That's how the Celtics used to beat LeBron all the time too.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the Clippers have Blake Griffin, but EVERYONE beyond that is incapable of creating their own shot. Paul and BG played really well the whole playoffs, but there's only so much you can do when the rest of your starters are out of gas, and everyone else is bricking shots left and right.
That's segment is still painful to watch.
ReplyDeleteGuys like Redick, and Barnes were useless that series.
ReplyDeleteThe same could be said about you reviews
ReplyDeleteI think the deal broke down because Heyman wanted hiring and firing ability, and they just wanted him to do creative
ReplyDeleteQuite the cringeworthy segment.
ReplyDeleteIt's not like people can't click on your name. Matters not to me, though. You seem cool.
ReplyDeleteIt joined Surge and Stacker 2 YJ Stinger in the pantheon of departed beverage sponsorships.
ReplyDelete(HHH still keeps a few cans of YJ Stinger around, for whenever he needs the power of BEES!)
So, I'm what you deserve?
ReplyDeleteI looked this up recently, he wanted an ownership percentage and full control.
ReplyDeleteThey wanted him to answer to Dixie.
He said goodbye at that point.
Yes, Heyman's first stance was "I want to fire everyone over forty" (he claims his exact words were "If you're over 40, I'll rip your fucking head off") and TNA wouldn't give him that power. He also wanted some ownership of the company, which he didn't get.
ReplyDeleteBarnes has always been a bench player, but especially now that he's older. Reddick needed to play better. The lack of dominate SGs in the league right now allows players like Reddick to really shine and not get punished on defense.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of making him look like a cult member. Maybe a black cloak and nikes.
ReplyDeleteRivers was their only bench guy who did anything. Rockets were the deeper team, despite their glaring hole at PG with Beverly out.
ReplyDeleteStacker 2! I remember the fat burning supplement phase. That was after the third party collect call phase.
ReplyDeleteWonder who will be the next NXT call-up? I'm guessing either Sasha or Charlotte at this point.
ReplyDeleteThe failed reboot of Jolt also sponsored WWE a decade ago but for whatever reason they never had ads on TV, they were only a sponsor for WWE Magazine.
ReplyDeleteWith Tazz pretending to be a gangster from the Sopranos, yacking about "Joey Numbers".
ReplyDeleteEveryone prefers the troll guy to...well...the troll guy hahah, that's great
ReplyDeleteAnna Nicole's death also killed that trend.
ReplyDeleteThe Divas division is in such a world of hurt that they almost have to call Charlotte up.
ReplyDeletePaul deserves some of the blame but I'm not going to give him the majorty of the blame. Griffin has disappeared in a lot of 4th quarters and their lack of depth was going to kill them if the series was extended which it did. Barnes was a nonfactor and Redick was lousy. Jalen Rose made a great point after the game about how they don't have a lot of players between 6'5'' and 6'8'' that can guard multiple positions. They need those kinds of players. Signing Spencer Hawes was a mistake as well as trading Jared Dudley and a 1st round pick that they could have used to leverage a trade. Their core of Paul, Griffin, Redick, and Jordan (assuming they give Jordan the max) is fine. It's their bench that needs to gets better and get a better big to supplement Blake and DeAndre.
ReplyDeleteIt was a bad lost, but laying it all on Chris Paul is ridiculous of course.
ReplyDeleteGM Doc really needs to be reined in. His moves last off-season were disasters. I think trading Jared Dudley and a pick for Carlos Delfino, Miroslav Raduljica and a 2015 second round draft pick was a MAJOR mistake. Dudley said on the Lowe Post podcast that he was injured, but Doc needed him to gut it out anyways. Then in the off-season, Doc trades Dudley because "he can't play".
