I feel like the blog is a little thin on Wednesday Night Wars coverage. Tommy and I both do NXT, of course, and Tommy also does Impact because he's a sadist or whatever, but ROH and especially Lucha Underground aren't getting any love. Anyone want to take a crack at Lucha? I don't have access to the show so I'm out.
I thpught Kyle was doing ROH?
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to review again, but I don't know that I'd be home every Wednesday night to tackle LU.
ReplyDeleteThis might be, pound-for-pound, the most overall talented roster in WWE history. The one plus of the 'WWE style' is that the guys who are good at it can generate minimum-*** matches like clockwork, and the guys who are really good at it can create classics. This is also the first post-Attitude generation of wrestlers who grew up watching ECW, Austin, the Rock, etc. and have now patterned their ways of speaking and working after them, evolving the business a step further.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's all being wasted since Vince, Dunn and the creative team (but probably mostly Vince) simply won't allow anyone to get as big as the WWE brand itself. For all we know, there are a dozen Rock/Austin caliber speakers in the locker room right now and we'd never know it since everyone is locked into scripted promos and would face a nine-month burial for improvising anything. (Even Dusty friggin' Rhodes was removed from TV for going off-script in that promo with Steph in 2013.) Just look at how many wrestlers show lots of untapped charisma or personality anytime they get a bit of free reign --- Barrett, Ryback, Barrett, Sandow, Miz, Titus, Young, Kidd, Cesaro, Big E, Woods, the list literally goes on and on. On backstage net-only segments, the JBL & Cole Show, brief commentary runs, etc. tons of these guys show loads of personality. On TV, they're robots reciting the same generic character beats over and over on the rare times they actually get a chance to speak.
Speaking of NXT, it has been confirmed that the entire July 4th card will be airing on the Network.
ReplyDeleteI can't stop.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite glad Owens is setting up history with Joe before he leaves NXT, that way they can have save the blow off for a PPV on the main roster.
ReplyDeleteWe have to read it, so he's a sadist.
ReplyDeleteFirst ever live WWE broadcast from Asia!
ReplyDeleteIs NXT history ever used on RAW?
ReplyDeleteI'd cover ROH, but I don't have access to Lucha either. Is Kyle not doing ROH anymore?
ReplyDeleteThat Raw a decade or so back was taped?
ReplyDeleteAnd if it's live...when's it showing? If they start at five their time, that's what, 6 in the morning?
They mentioned Neville/Dallas being rivals.
ReplyDeleteMostly though it's material for their video packages?
How bad do you think it is to watch it?
ReplyDeleteAt least Eric Young is not world champion anymore so you're not on suicide watch anymore.
ReplyDeleteI actually didn't mind the title reign. It was hearing him being called CRAZY every 10 seconds when A, he wasn't acting crazy and B, he was taking a spot that could be used by wrestlers far more talented and interesting. Like Bram, Carter or say, Lucky Cannon.
ReplyDeleteHopefully they will see the sense in doing so.
ReplyDeleteThe current card for the July 4th Tokyo Show:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.wwe.co.jp/wwelive/news/39
John Cena and Dolph Ziggler vs Kane and King Barrett
Brock Lesnar vs Kofi Kingston
NXT Title Match: Finn Balor vs Kevin Owens(c)
Tag Title Match: Tyson Kidd and Cesaro vs Xavier Woods & Big E(c)* vs Prime Time Players
Divas Title Match: Paige vs Nikki Bella(c) vs Naomi
Lucha Dragons vs Los Matadores (w/El Torito)
* New Day listed as champions because WWE programming in Japan hasn't gotten to MitB yet.
Um....huh.
Network broadcast starts at 5:30am EST.
ReplyDeleteJuly 4th? Wouldn't that mean it'd be filming on the 3rd?
ReplyDeleteLike, I'm from Cali, so if I'm watching the Tokyo show, it'd be filming at 4:30 PM in Japan and I'd watch it at 2:30 AM.
Fucking time zones.
WHAT DID KOFI DO?
ReplyDeleteI thought Kyle was doing ROH? I can't blame him if he stopped.
ReplyDeleteWhy are you assuming 4:30pm in Japan?
ReplyDeleteYou're two hours off.
HE GRABBED THE BRASS RING!
ReplyDeleteThat Finn Balor video package was outstanding. A really fun show all round.
ReplyDeleteAlso Jericho vs Neville. It's a shame Cena is being wasted in some random midcard tag.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I wanted TNA to be a real number 2, because without competition, WWE can do what they want. And that is NOT give us the best product they could give us.
ReplyDeleteHas he forget, that he only got Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Steve Austin or The Rock because guys like Hogan, Savage, Warrior, Luger, Nash, Hall left WWF? If Hogan had stayed in WWF (and as face), it would be like today with Cena not going away (or heel). Nobody else would have gotten over as the new top face star.
ReplyDeleteThat match had been scrapped.
ReplyDeleteIt's listed on the link you shared.
ReplyDeleteSo it is. I missed that sandwiched in there.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. But overseas cards are always shuffled around at the last minute anyway.
ReplyDeleteI posted ROH both of the last Wednesdays and am one day late today because I had rush tickets...it's going up today
ReplyDeleteI mean, I'm one day late this week because I had rush tickets for wednesday
ReplyDeleteI am as far as I know. This is the first I've read I wasn't...
ReplyDeleteI'm writing it right now
ReplyDeleteHow was Rush?
ReplyDeleteWell, take a mean, mean ride to ROH review town, buddy.
ReplyDeleteGeddy's voice is not what it once was but the second act was like 80% instrumental anyway and was amazing.
ReplyDeleteThey still play their instruments better than 95% of musicians. Lifeson was a wizard.
Isn't it -13 from EST?
ReplyDeletePUT IT DOWN KOFI! PUT IT DOWN!
ReplyDeleteI always thought Lucky Cannon was a great name.
ReplyDeleteSo 6:30pm - 13 hours = 5:30am
ReplyDeleteYou could just correct him instead of going on about it and being a general douchebag.
ReplyDeleteThat's ....what I just did?
ReplyDeleteOh man, Tank Abbott. Yes, I know he was a legit tough guy, but he looked like a fat guy in a bathing suit. That look was never going to work.
ReplyDeleteIt's posted now.
ReplyDeleteJapan is the country not to pull that shit with.
ReplyDeleteTNA did that pretend the titles haven't switched thing for Bound for Glory and Zero-1 stopped promoting it as a title match because that was seen as false advertising when fans called in to complain.
Well I'm glad everyone but Scott remembered at least.
ReplyDeleteI will probably sound like Jerry Lawler acting like an old perv, but whoever made the decision to cover up Alexa Bliss with a skirt during her face run should be fired immediately.
ReplyDeleteI thought the skirt gimmick was hot.
ReplyDeleteI thought so too until the outfit change.
ReplyDeleteTNA is a pimple on Japan's butt.
ReplyDeleteJapan is a pimple on WWE's butt.
You know I was just kidding, right? I don't think we were all dying without the review. You could've taken a day off.
ReplyDeleteI saw the paycheck saying $5662 @2, I have faith ...that...my friend woz like they say realey earning money in there spare time from there pretty old laptop. . there best friend had bean doing this for only about 20 months and a short time ago paid the loans on their condo and got a great Mercedes . why not find out more

Totally agree
ReplyDeleteLance Storm did pretty well there, and Storm is no Cesaro.
ReplyDeleteGreat point. And his bare knuckle background means he's as legit as Kane at the Rollins stuff.
ReplyDeleteOh, it absolutely is. I'd never say Barrett is the best in ring, but dude carries himself like a star. Great promos, solid charisma, legit background and an awesome finisher. How is that guy not a main eventer, ya know?
