If you need a great random match, just call Flair and Windham in 1986. This is from Battle of the Belts 2, not their best one, but still *****-ish. The one on the original Flair DVD is still one of the best.

Jobber, speaking of working face, Barry from 86-88 should be required viewing for anyone who wants to be the perfect face in the ring.
ReplyDeleteGreat match. What's up with Barry's "whispy" mustasche? Made me lol.
What's up with that interview at the start? You're the INTERVIEWER--you don't need to start cutting a promo and putting Flair over. TWO times Flair thought it was over and tried to pull away but that guy just kept going...
ReplyDeleteWhat was the deal with Windham? Did he just stop giving a shit? He was awesome in the ring, had that look the NWA loved, and was clearly capable of stealing the show with Flair, Luger, et al. Yet he never really stayed on top or had great matches beyond this period.
ReplyDeleteha ha, yeah, Buddy Colt was terrible.
ReplyDeleteBarry stopped giving a shit after he left for the WWF in late 89. He was part of some awesome wargames in the early 90s and a couple of great tag matches (one with Flair vs. Doom and one with Dustin Rhodes vs. Dr Death and Austin of all people), but he was never the same singles wrestler. Barry Windham from 85-88 was the quintessential young babyface and had the look and size that fit the persona. It almost didn't matter who he wrestled during that period, it was going to be good, but he and Flair had a special chemistry.
ReplyDeleteFirst off: WOO HOO!! My vid got posted.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I thought Barry stopped caring when he married a rich chick.
LMAO @ Flair coming down to "Easy Lover"
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck was that about?
ReplyDeleteMy guess is because the show was on Valentine's Day.
ReplyDeleteIf you watch the first match on the SNME DVD, it's U.S. Express/Steamboat against someone and Barry is just so over with the crowd. He could have had the wrestling world in the palm of his hand. But he made a lot of money and seems to be a pretty grounded nice guy that isn't too worried about his legacy so I guess it all works out.
ReplyDeleteWell the bandana around the neck would just look silly without the mustache.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised the NWA would have even allowed that considering that was the original Wrestlemania theme. I can't imagine Vince would have let anyone come out to the Frank Stallone Starrcade theme in his company.
ReplyDeleteBuddy had a fantastic voice for the job but he clearly didn't know how to be an wrestling announcer. He would have been much better suited for radio.
