Greetings.
We've spoken a lot about dramas lately, so let's look at the other side.
All time favorite sit-com?
Since I was a child, it's been Married...With Children. It never had a bad season, and the character of Al Bundy is one of the all time greatest. I've been watching it for 20+ years, and I never tire of it. A close second is Seinfeld, and I could see it one day even taking the top spot. The early seasons are lacking, but they really hit their stride come season 4. The last two seasons are perhaps the finest written pieces of comedy of all time, and never cease to amaze me with just how GD brilliant they are.
How say you?

I'm glad you like the last two seasons the best. Many a time I debate some folks on that very issue, and they say "oh the show went downhill when Larry David left, they relied too much on silly gags."
ReplyDeleteTo me, those last two seasons are just sheer brilliance--some of the most fast-paced, unbelievably interlocked episodes of anything ever.
To answer the question, The Larry Sanders Show. The satire of hollywood is just so spot-on, and the three main characters are all played perfectly.
Seinfeld, and it isn't even close.
ReplyDeleteThe first season of 30 Rock. The show never quite lived up to it later on, but that first one is a comedy masterpiece.
ReplyDeleteFor overall run, I've got to agree with Seinfeld. There are many other shows that I've liked more at certain times (mostly recent things like 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, Community, Always Sunny, Curb, The League), but Seinfeld was consistently great for so long that it's the clear winner.
ReplyDeleteMartin. Funniest show ever.
ReplyDeletePeriod Point Blank. There are other awesome shows (Cosby Show, Married With Children, King of Queens, Fresh Prince of Bel Air), but for pure laughter, Martin wins it hands down. Not even close.
Also, the first season of Scrubs. This show went downhill farther and faster than 30 Rock, but the first season was great.
ReplyDeleteWow...that's a good one. I am going to assume that The Simpsons and Family Guy don't count since it's animation. The Wonder Years would be on the list except that I suppose it was more of a dramady. Married With Children was of course classic but they tended to follow the same formula. New Girl has it's moments but has not been around long enough. I confess to mostly watching Seinfeld and Cheers in syndication and I want to list a show I watched in real time. So that leaves the one...the only...Rosanne.
ReplyDelete1) South Park (wikipedia counts it as a sitcom). Too many classic episodes that are always quotable and definitely re-watchable.
ReplyDelete2) I Love Lucy
3tie) Seinfeld, Simpsons (the first 10 years), The Office (Michael Scott era)
Can we just exclude The Simpsons as a whole? The glory years of Season 3-8 are easily my favorite sitcom of all time, but I feel like way too many people are going to use that as their answer (and rightfully so).
ReplyDeleteIf we are counting animation then it The Simpsons and it's not even close.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing Seinfeld did wrong was the finale. I can't think of another episode that was bad.
ReplyDeleteIt was mentioned in the other thread, but Get a Life is my favorite sitcom of all time. There has never been anything like it since.
Seinfeld, followed very closely by Curb, then Sunny.
ReplyDeleteI love the Simpsons, but I've never thought of it (or South Park) as a sitcom.
For all time favorite, it's too close to call, so I'll go with my current favorite: Community. Fairly hit-or-miss at times, but when it hits, no other sitcom on TV can touch it IMO, including my current runner-up, Parks and Recreation.
ReplyDelete"An animated sitcom is a subgenre of the sitcom that is animated rather than live action.[1] This subgenre has subgenres of its own, such as adult animation. Examples of adult animation shows include The Simpsons, South Park,Family Guy, American Dad! and Drawn Together."
ReplyDeleteThus I would count it
Friends, Married With Children, Entourage are the ones that come to mind right away.
ReplyDeleteUmmm, yeah, ok.
ReplyDelete1. Seinfeld
ReplyDelete2. The Simpsons
3. Sanford & Sons
4. Curb Your Enthusiasm
5. The Office (w/Michael Scott)
HM: The Jeffersons, South Park, Cheers, Mash (seasons 1-3).
I love Seinfeld, I love curb your enthusiasm, I love ad, but the best sitcom I've ever seen is Larry sanders.
ReplyDeleteEdit: on second thought I think maybe I do like Seinfeld more
Get a Life.....well played sir :)
ReplyDeleteGet A Life was wonderfully awkward.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Seinfeld, but have to disagree 100000% on your assessment of the show. The first couple seasons were great, though needed work. I agree they hit their stride in Season 4, but the final two seasons or so just weren't that great, aside from a couple classic episodes. The show kind of lost its realism. The episode I always credit to that is the one where both George and Elaine stop having sex — not together, but entirely. George gets smart and Elaine gets dumb was just, well, dumb. I credit the decline in good stories to Larry David leaving the writing team.
ReplyDeleteWith discussion of The office and Simpsons: if a show stays on the air too long, does it ruin its legacy? The Simpsons should have ended 10-15 years ago. The Office should have ended when Michael Scott left. Seinfeld left at the perfect time (#1 in the ratings, still funny) and never went into the unfunny territory. Roseanne had a horrible last season and ruined some of its luster.
ReplyDeleteIts not my favorite show ever but I just wanted to say I loved the wayans bros. show. Fucking hysterical and it had the parents from Friday.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to add that I still love those last two seasons, but it isn't nearly as great as the first seven.
ReplyDeleteDown vote if you love George Zimmerman
ReplyDeleteYou know what I liked best about Married With Children? The later years when the characters would enter the Bundy House and the crowd would go crazy, (especially for AL)
ReplyDeleteI don't exactly disagree about The Office, but after a while the show got pretty good again. Especially the pre-intro bits -- it always seemed like a highly disproportionate amount of the joke-writing efforts went into just those few minutes.
ReplyDeleteI'll say the same thing I say about wrestlers hanging around too long, I can always put in a dvd or watch on youtube while they were in their prime. I always feel the legacy is established on how great your greatness was, not based on how long you hung around after the flame died down.
ReplyDeleteEven I have to downvote that one.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a still young and hot Christina Applegate...
ReplyDeleteI will downvote anyone who posts similar "upvote if you" or "downvote if you" posts. This isn't you tube and who cares about votes.
ReplyDeleteWell, the post was "your favorite sitcom" not, "I love this fucking sitcom so much it's the greatest OMZG of all time, fuk the rest of you" thread. It annoyed me, what can I say.
ReplyDeleteMan, I still find her all kinds of hot. Maybe she's ingrained in my minds fantasy from watching Married...as a youngster.
ReplyDeleteMarried With Children is what I grew up on so it gets the nod.
ReplyDeleteMWC (along with the SImpsons) turned Fox from fledgling 4th with no hope of being a network into #1 in a couple of years.
I will say, the first season where it tries to be a real sitcom with plots and all that is BRUTAL.
I felt like the Office went from being a comedy with occasional story lines, to a show with story lines that added jokes if you know what I mean. It was like the episodes revolved more around advancing the story than making you laugh.
ReplyDeleteNo... Martin sucked ass.
ReplyDeleteI downvoted Darren.
Lol easy buddy its called a joke. The wayansbros is a black show, someone dv'd it and i made a joke.
ReplyDeleteI'm fine. Internet posts don't convey intent, so if it came off as "angry", I'm not.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't call me "buddy", PAL.
ReplyDeleteDon't tell mom the babysitters dead is my favorite version of her, damn she was hot
ReplyDeletei watched MWC backwards on netflix just to see when it started.
ReplyDelete5th season.
We can all agree the Terrance and Phillip show is Canada's best sitcom
ReplyDeleteAnd Grandmaster B.
ReplyDeleteWhat??? Whose downvoting Rosanne?
ReplyDeleteI thought it was "eh" is Apples.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if she is still "hot" but Christina Applegate has always been attractive. You need to see her in Don't Tell Mom the Babysitters Dead. Funny classic movie.
ReplyDeleteIf I may broaden the topic to Favourite Comedy Show outright, then nothing beats BRASS EYE, an amazing British satire show from the 90s. Each episode tackled a different "theme". Their episode about Paedophillia was the 2nd most complained about thing to ever air on British television.
ReplyDeleteAs far as sitcoms, it's too close to call a favourite so I'll list five:
Larry Sanders Show
The Simpsons
30 Rock
King Of The Hill
Always Sunny in Philadelphia
There's many classics left off that list, not to mention sketch shows like Big Train, Mr. Show, Tim & Eric, Jam, etc.
I dunno, she hosted SNL late last year and I still thought she looked damn fine for a MILF.
ReplyDeleteActually forgot another I want to add, for recent favorites (and very likely all-time): The IT Crowd. Anyone who hasn't watched all 24 episodes of this gem is doing themselves a complete disservice.
ReplyDeleteSeinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Sourh Park.
ReplyDeleteI liked the IT Crowd. Haven't seen it all. Basically anything by Graham Lineham (Blackbooks, Father Ted, Big Train) is well worth checking out.
ReplyDeleteThere was a BBC show called "Whites' that lasted six episodes that was pretty hilarious, but I guess you really can't go by something with such a short run.
ReplyDeletewhat the fuck is this, youtube
ReplyDeleteBest Curb Your Enthusiasm episode? There's so many good ones I can't really narrow it down.
ReplyDeleteI love em all but probablythe five wood or the doll. Or maybe the one where Jason Alexander won't come to his office. If I had to pick just one, probably would say the five wood.
ReplyDeleteSeinfeld. No explanation even needed
ReplyDeleteWeird - that's when I started NOT liking the show. Crowd would go crazy when Al would move his nose hairs in unison, seemingly.
ReplyDeleteMartin was a mess.
ReplyDeleteCosby show is still funny now.
I could watch Larry David and Jason Alexander argue over petty issues for hours and not get bored. Ditto, Larry and Danson or Larry and Funkhauser. God that show is great.
ReplyDeleteOnce Jim and Pam finally started dating and then marrying, Office was done for me. The gripping element of them died then and became unwatchable once they had a kid. Add in Michael Scott leaving and I was done
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love Seinfeld. I actually think the early one are better. It was just SO different from anything else on TV.
ReplyDeleteI will concede that, in those first two seasons, the episodes are a little slow, but the concepts and execution are all funny. For me, season 3 is when they really hit their stride, as David and Seinfeld figured out how to intertwine all the storylines on a weekly basis, but still kept the conversational nature of the show.
I've deliberately ignored The Simpsons for a decade now so it's legacy remains untarnished. Even then, no amount of bad episodes can ruin the near-decade of top notch comedy that show put out. Same goes with the US Office. It ended up a parody of itself but I can watch seasons 2-5 (with 6 and 7 not being too awful) and remember it as a classic.
ReplyDeleteHell yea Larry Sanders is good stuff. A shame that it was "R rated" in the long run as it can't gain new viewers thru syndication on television. Fucking hilarious show that was before its time, under-appreciated, and a clear influence on Curb
ReplyDeleteI may be one of the few people who actually liked the finale. Sure, the premise was stupid but, to be fair, a lot of their season 9 premises were stupid. I thought the way they did the finale was a great way to bring in all the amazing ancillary characters from the show's history, all while highlighting how selfish and socially dysfunctional the show's four main characters were.
ReplyDeleteCrazee Eyez Killa. Done and done.
ReplyDeleteJamie Foxx Show over Martin any day
ReplyDeleteGotta go with Seinfeld...I wish I could have picked The Office but Michael Scott leaving followed by the intolerable James Spader season ruined it permanently for me (the lone bright spot being Florida Stanley). I could forgive a mediocre season, but not a pisspoor one. I'd still argue that Seasons 3 and 4 are among the best seasons of any comedy.
ReplyDeleteMy wife is hooked on Married With Children...we got back into it after the birth of our son in January, as his 4am feedings coincided with that being the only decent show on TV at that hour.
does the fact the seinfeld's finale is pretty universally reviled have any impact on its place in history? its almost like its a great sitcom with an asterisk for the finale
ReplyDeleteThe 7th season of Curb made up for it.
ReplyDeletesouth park is consistently brilliant, and if you disagree youre just bein' a contrarian
ReplyDeletei will never not love m*a*s*h
i have a deep deep love for nbc 80's: cosby, family ties, facts of life, night court, plus fresh prince from later
was never a huge fan of abc's tgif, tho. and even though m*a*s*h was cbs in the day, in the 80's i never watched it except for the holiday specials
Simpsons 2-10 for me. Exluding that, Married with Children and That 70's Show.
ReplyDeletequestion for peeps since i was writin' about different channels back in the era of just the big 3:
ReplyDeletewas your family "loyal" to one station over another? my fam growin' up was def an nbc fam. nightly/local news, sitcoms, syndicated off-peak times, late night...
it would be followed by abc and then cbs, tho cbs got mad love for the holiday specials:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTWzI66jGOE
dishes are done, man
ReplyDeleteI know people mock the excessive laugh track, but That 70s Show was great.
ReplyDeletedavid duchovny with a pony tail
ReplyDeletemakes me think of this:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUWVU2rM_B4
'Mash (seasons 1-3)'
ReplyDeletey u hate col potter and bj?
another great show that only last 6 eps was police squad. i still love the fact that instead of freeze frames during the credits they actually stood still while stuff like the coffee would start of overflow
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen all of it, eh? I will advise that it does get better and better with each season. In fact, I still think Season 4 of that show may be untouchable by American television.
ReplyDelete+A million for Fresh Prince. I don't care if Will Smith is stale as bread these days, because I still love that show.
ReplyDeleteI think expectations played a huge part as to how people felt about the series finale, I know it did for me. In subsequent viewings though, I've found the finale darn funny.
ReplyDeleteIt never clicked for me the same way after Coronel Blake left. Still a good show, just not as good imo.
ReplyDeleteHaving just rewatched it, even the much maligned season eight is good. Fox used to make the best sitcoms, bar none.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to get back into it, for sure. I'm Australian so we have a pretty even dispensation of imported shows from the UK and America. I generally go in phases of watching something from one country over the other and recently I've been watching more of the American stuff. It seems like whenever one country is firing well the other is in a bit of a slump, with comedy at least.
ReplyDeleteSeinfeld and That 70s Show are the two all-time favorites; Curb Your Enthusiasm is a close second, though.
ReplyDeleteArrested Development. . .and motherfucking ALF!
ReplyDelete[obligatory pog reference]
ReplyDeletebut really, he is back on the hub doin' ads for their lineup
There are so many South Park classics, it's hard to keep off the all-time great list. They were hit-and-miss at first(and recently), but seasons 7-11 were gold.
ReplyDeleteits friend, buddy, guy
ReplyDeletefail :(
upvote if you love flair4dagold
ReplyDeleteodb?
ReplyDeletetom arnold
ReplyDeleteDan Fielding is one of my all time favorite TV characters.
ReplyDeleteremember when he turned face
ReplyDeleteI am actually finding myself looking forward to the QOTD!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Arrested Development. (but OMG it's so overrated, I know!)
Right behind it is Seinfeld and Full House.
who the fuck hired raven?
ReplyDeletei liked that ep of full house where the tone got serious, dramatic music was played, and an important lesson was learned
ReplyDeletemy family was NBC all the way until Fox gained ground.
ReplyDeleteyou got it dude!
ReplyDeleteWho cares, i'm not Canadian.
ReplyDeleteneither am i, i'm just stickin up for south park
ReplyDeleteWhen I see her now all I see is a standard somewhat attractive woman who you easily see in the mall or at Chipotle or some shit... back then she was other worldly hot
ReplyDeleteMy favorite was that episode where Joey did impressions.
ReplyDeleteCUT > IT > OUT
ReplyDeleteI just watched season one of Alf...it's nowhere as terrible as I expected. I figured my childhood self was just remembering it fondly, but it was totally watchable.
ReplyDeleteBoy Meets World. Yeah, it's cheesy and sappy at times, but I grew up on the show. I'm almost the exact same age as the main cast and I think that's why it always pulled me in. Topanga/Danielle Fishel was my first celebrity crush. Plus, I love blatantly lame humour and that show had it in spades, but it was aware they were being lame. Much like The Muppets in that sense, actually.
ReplyDeleteAlso, who doesn't love the Feeny Call?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-BB-Xk9xYY
Yup, this one. My all-time favorite. I actually rewatched the entire series in the span of a month last winter, and despite the continuity errors, it still holds up on story and character interaction alone. Just a brilliantly well done show that deserves to stand the test of time.
ReplyDeleteI went to see "Uncle Joey" at a comedy club in Ft. Lauderdale years ago and he practically got heckled off the stage by the crowd. I felt terrible for him and I find hecklers to be incredibly rude, but boy was his act bad.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to narrow down with so many of the greatest comedies jumping the shark because 1. Good comedies are hard to find, so networks will do anything to keep them going. 2. The only major costs are the actors, so it's easier to keep them going.
ReplyDeleteHave to show some love for:
Cheers (the Diane years, at least, but it was still churning out classics during the last couple seasons)
Peep Show (Mitchell and Webb are almost impossible to get sick of)
Community (perhaps the most daring and experimental comedy)
My favorite time of the series is when they get to college.
ReplyDeleteCalibur has some of the oddest opinions I've ever head.
ReplyDeleteMarried...with Children never had a bad season? Holy lord. The last few seasons? Come on. Wow.
Yeah, I thought it was basically a live action cartoon for the last few seasons. Stopped caring after the No Ma'am support group.
ReplyDeleteRemember that episode where he finds a tape where he said if he didn't make it by the time he turned 30 he'd give up, and it was like, 2 weeks before his birthday? So then he says he's "all comedy, all the time", and went on to do nothing but non-stop impressions and comedy crap. If I were a member of that family I would have stabbed him with an umbrella and opened it.
ReplyDeleteI thought over time people have softened on it. I think the finale is great. I always look forward to it when it's on TV. Not to mention it gave us Seinfeld in Oz.
ReplyDeleteSeinfeld hit its stride come season 4?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely not. Season 2 is where the show begins to hit its stride with the famous Chinese Restaurant episode.
Season 3 has The Pen, The Library, The Parking Garage, The Alternate Side, The Pez Dispenser, The Boyfriend and The Parking Space.
That's just some of the great episodes from Season 3. To say it hit its stride in Season 4 is insulting. The show started to hit its stride in Season 2, hit the ground running in Season 3 and established itself as the sitcom with a blowaway Season 4, that is untouchable
ha ha, yes, I actually remember that episode...holy shit, why did I watch that show?
ReplyDeletePS Probably to stare at Lori Laughlin...
I agree. The Office could have easily snatched the greatest of all time, but for some reason they decided to keep going after Michael left. They had Kathy Bates, who's character was likeable, and funny. So, they get rid of her for one of the worst characters in TV history, Robert California. There are a few good episodes in seasons 8 & 9, but the writing became so fucking bad. Every new character that was introduced was always completely over-the-top stupid. The show went from being based in reality to being based in Chuck Lorre's mind.
ReplyDeleteI highly disagree. Seasons 1 & 2 of the IT Crowd are much more enjoyable, in my opinion. Denholm and Richmond are hilarious and added a bit of punch to the first two seasons. I still dig Season 4, but I couldn't shake the sense that the show was on the decline by the time it ended (the last episode is awesome, though).
ReplyDeleteFor the most part I agree, but there are a couple of funny episodes. Such as when Al & Steve get the Mustang, and when Al hangs out with his buddy who's banging two stewardess' and one of'em wants to bang Al.
ReplyDeleteFor me it's South Park, and yes that includes the last few seasons. Consistently funny, and I can watch and rewatch almost every show constantly.
ReplyDeleteSimpsons and Seinfeld are neck and neck for 2nd place. Like most I stopped watching Simpsons regularly after about 2001, but it still has its moments.
One show I wish I had watched more regularly when it was on was Frasier.
The last two seasons are perhaps the finest written pieces of comedy of all time, and never cease to amaze me with just how GD brilliant they are.
ReplyDeleteWhat? How? Who? You thought Seinfeld's best seasons were AFTER Larry David left? How does even one think that.
I love Seinfeld and I enjoy the last two seasons a lot, but it really stopped being a show about nothing, with plots that became more absurd and outlandish. Jerry did the best he could, but the final season is really lacking.
Like I did with Season 3, I could give a rundown of the clunkers. So let's do it:
The Package (aside from the writeoff scene), The Fatigues, The Money, The Van Buren Boys, The Susie, The Nap, The Millennium, The Muffin Tops, The Serenity Now, The Blood, The Junk Mail, The Apology, The Strike, The Strong Box, The Puerto Rican Day parade.
"The last two seasons are the finest written pieces of comedy of all time"
Just wow.
I actually loved when they acknowledged the continuity errors. Like his little sister returning, what, two seasons later? As a different actress, no less. And saying it was the longest time-out ever? Awesome.
ReplyDeleteNot so much my family, but I've always been partial to NBC. Outside of NYPD Blue and Coach, I can't recall too many shows I ever watched on ABC, and I don't think I ever have watched a show on CBS other than Picket Fences.
ReplyDeleteThree down votes?
ReplyDeleteFINE....Full House is my favorite.
He got a spot on Star Search and ended up losing to Steve Oedekerk.
ReplyDeleteDid you know David Faustino was a legit rapper? He and his friends would preform at a club he bought. That's why they introduced Dustbuster B.
ReplyDeleteJoey was not their uncle. He was never referred to as Uncle Joey.
ReplyDeleteJesse was the uncle.
Mine too. I also love the one where Michelle Tanner.
ReplyDeleteI don't get how you could ever boo that man.
ReplyDeleteUpvoted for a mention of Coach. People often forget or are embarrassed to mention shows like that or Wings, but hell, they made me laugh for years.
ReplyDeleteHey, in the Full House universe, he was a real cut-up.
ReplyDeleteCoach! Man, do I love those early episodes. The Carpet is a favorite episode of mine. Luther is such a bumbling fool, but I love that character.
ReplyDeleteALF is woefully underrated.
ReplyDeleteThe finale is not as bad as people say it is. But it is not great. It's way too long, and there are a lot of scenes that are just superfluous.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it's a clip show when the episode that preceded it, was a clip show.
ha ha, of course he performed at the club HE bought. His real life rapper career went about as a good as his sitcom one.
ReplyDeleteSeason 2 is untouchable. Season 3 is overrated, Jim in Stamford sucks and there's way too much Michael.
ReplyDeleteRe-watching some of the episodes on Nick At Nite, I've come to release Rebecca is a real bitch.
ReplyDeleteJesse goes to Japan, where he's a MAJOR rock star, and is FINALLY, FINALLY living his dream. No longer having to preform for Michelle in the fucking basement, and what's Rebecca do? Try and guilt him with the kids because he wants to soak up the life a little bit before he has to go back to San Fransisco and write jingles.
Well if he hadn't done the stupid Popeye jokes
ReplyDeleteAlright, who the hell can remember that from a crappy sitcom. Thanks for the correction.
ReplyDeleteMWC and the Simpsons did not turn FOX into a #1 network. It didn't win its first week until it had the Super Bowl for the first time, and it was American Idol, as well as a Super Bowl every few years that launched it into first place in 18-49.
ReplyDeleteThree's Company was one of my favorites (from before my time).
ReplyDeleteSeinfeld is definitely a classic.
From the last decade, I'd go with That 70's Show and the Office.
It's a pet peeve of mine.
ReplyDeleteTo use another wrestling analogy, Coach was like a great upper-midcarder - never gonna be at the top, but always solidly entertaining.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really weird pet peeve to have, but whatever. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love Full House. I've seen every episode way too many times. I own Jodie Sweetin's book.
ReplyDeleteUmmm...ok... *slowly walks backwards*
ReplyDelete+1 for Three's Company.
ReplyDeleteAny episode featuring Larry is great.
It's absolutely shocking how bad your taste is.
ReplyDeleteDo understand you're in the complete minority in your opinion. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
The Strike? You don't like the Festivus episode? Puerto Rican Day Parade is absolutely fantastic. As is the Strong Box, The Blood...I mean, the Blood has Mr. Mandlebaum! The Serenity Now has Kramer in Any Town, USA. As surprised as you are that I dig'em, I'm 10x as shocked at how bad your taste is. No wonder you don't like me.
'Not that there's anything wrong with that.'
ReplyDeletei see what you did there but didnt mean it as originally used
i like how she was id'd as a known meth dealer on family guy this past season. cartoon pix of all the griffins and then a real pic of her.
ReplyDeleteNo, you got the downvotes for saying you enjoy something that I created. It's a dangerous world when you put your vote in Caliber Winfield. Some of these guys, they don't care if you have families, or that you're a human being, they'll thrown down-votes at you without a second's thought.
ReplyDelete...where she what?!
ReplyDeleteDude...I don't know what reviews you've been reading or who you've been talking to, but I've never heard this opinion before from people online or in person. The last two seasons have some fine moments, but they are just not as good as the mid seasons.
ReplyDeleteremember that ep where mr furley's eyes bugged out?
ReplyDeleteroseanne did that. when the original becky came back, she came in the door and the 1st thing roseanne said was 'where the hell have you been?" (big pop)
ReplyDeleteand then after she was back, fake becky came to the door for something and was like 'you know, i'd love to be a part of a warm loving family like this' or something (big pop)
ha ha, yeah.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is that one where there was a misunderstanding that cleared up at the end of the episode. Also, that one where Mr. Roper makes a gay crack at Jack? Hilarious.
he was that creepy uncle
ReplyDeleteY'all need to start watching Parks and Rec. It is EASILY my favorite since Seinfeld went off the air. Absolutely brilliant show. The only downside is that they've somehow made Rashida Jones not hot with her weird faux-hipster wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteThis is fine, because Aubrey Plaza exists.
ReplyDeleteor that time when they changed the 3rd roomate?
ReplyDeleteor when chrissy said and/or did something dumb?
and bounced around?
All of my friends are Seinfeld fans, and I often visit the board at IMDB, as well as reading the reviews for the DVD sets as they were coming out on amazon. People loved the seasons after Larry left. I mean, it was #1 for a reason.
ReplyDeleteChrissy....aaaaaaaarrrrrrggghhhhh...
ReplyDeleteMy taste is not in the minority. The general consensus of Seinfeld is the show went downhill after Larry David left. That's a fact.
ReplyDeleteLook at all the articles in Season 8 and Season 9 that had the What's Wrong With Seinfeld stuff. Why do you think Seinfeld ended after Season 9? Because he realised how hard the show was to do without Larry David.
Please don't try to augment your arguments with falsehoods.
I swear, you're the Bizaro Caliber.
ReplyDeleteI never found Festivus to be funny, though I admit I'm in the minority with that.
ReplyDeleteThe Puerto Rican Day Parade episode is awful, and I'm definitely in the majority with that. It's the show credited to all the current writers since it's the last one before the finale, and it shows.
I get what they were going for with the Puerto Rican Day Parade episode, but ever since they did the Chinese Restaurant, every time they went back to the well it had diminishing returns.
The Puerto Rican Day Parade officially scrapes the bottom of the barrel. I don't think anyone was too upset that the episode was not rerun for years.
Mr. Mandelbaum is unfunny and you are wrong if you disagree.
The Serenity Now, ugh, just never makes me laugh. Jerry suddenly getting feelings isn't as funny as they think it is.
- Friends
ReplyDelete- M*A*S*H (all seasons -- I never get the disdain for the show after Blake left)
- That 70s Show (-Season 8)
- Married: With Children (Sorry, Caliber, there were some HORRIBLE seasons of that show. The last couple, and especially that "Seven" season come to mind)
- The first few seasons of In Living Color (though that show aged HORRIBLY),
- Community, despite this blah last season (yay! Harmon is coming back!) is heading up in rankings for me,
- The Simpsons up to about Season 10. Man, I used to quote that show ceaselessly.
- Roseanne up until the last couple of seasons
As an adult, I find him creepy. I mean, all he does is watch shows made for kids, and wear their pajamas. If the show were on today there'd be the very special episode where Uncle Joey is on To Catch A Predator.
ReplyDeletehey brahs, i bet it quagmire were reading this, he'd answer wings
ReplyDeletecouldnt find the original clip, but heres a reading
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLCS1x27lNY
It was actually #2 behind ER in Season 8.
ReplyDeleteSeason 9 only ranked #1 ahead of ER because the finale skewed the average up so high.
why dont you have a seat
ReplyDeleteBut he wasn't the uncle.
ReplyDeleteNot by blood, no. He's just the good friend of the dad who gets called Uncle. I don't think I've met a person who didn't have one of those growing up.
ReplyDeleteThis is of course where you tell me that you didn't.
I call the Simpsons a sitcom, so them.
ReplyDeleteSeason 9 is just so hit and miss. So oddly mean spirited and so wacky. Again, go back and read articles and critical notices from 1996-1998. Once Larry David left, the knives came out, and it was for a good reason. It was still funny, no doubt, but it's clearly lacking something
ReplyDeleteHe was never called an uncle. He was never referred to as Uncle Joey.
ReplyDeleteThey just called him Joey. Jesse sometimes called him Joseph.
ReplyDeleteIn the episode where Joey decided to get serious, he was called Joe.
Seven disappeared quickly. I really enjoyed the last few seasons, and had no problem with it being so out-landish. Episodes like Al selling his soul, trying to install a satellite on the roof, the one where Kelly & Bud kidnap the Darci's Christmas manager scene and Al & Griff get fired from the shoe store, the one where Al & Griff barter everything away in the shoe store to get a massage chair, the one where they find the 70's style shoes. There's a ton of great ones. But I could definitely see why people don't like it.
ReplyDeleteWhere she existed. That was all I needed.
ReplyDeleteThat episode really bothers me. Becky was quite the cunt.
ReplyDeleteHome Improvement. My favorite episode is one where Tim did something stupid to piss of Jill. Tim talked to Wilson and Tim and Jill made up.
ReplyDeleteAlso Wings.
I thought season six was the worst, with that Awful England three parter. Season seven was a breath of fresh air after that.
ReplyDeleteLol I expected the thumbs downs......its pretty much a given: Having more of a - shall we say "urban" background, I think my sense of humor will be different than 90% of the BOD-ers.....for example, I dont particularly think Seinfeld is funny
ReplyDeleteI always liked when Mr. Roper turned to the camera, then laughed at his own joke.
ReplyDeleteIf we're not counting the Simpsons, then my answer is Seinfeld. I still watch those old eps in reruns and they're as funny as ever.
ReplyDeleteHonorable mention to Arrested Development, Frasier and Cheers. I'm one of the few who actually thinks Frasier was overall funnier than Cheers.
I must admit, I wonder if Caliber isn't trolling for comments sometimes. He's like a Seinfeld character. Some dude they run into with the worst taste ever. He's sitting there raving about how a McDonald's cheeseburger is flat out the greatest piece of beef he's ever eaten, and that filet mignon is so overrated.
ReplyDeleteTrue, we've had this discussions before. Fuj is black though and he doesn't like it either. I would say, Sanford & Son blows Martin away in every conceivable department because Red Foxx that's why.
ReplyDeleteThumbed-up just for your comment about Home Improvement.
ReplyDeleteI loved all of the episodes of Three's Company where there was a misunderstanding, and the very few episodes of Gilligan's Island where Gilligan messed up their chances of getting off the island.
Shit, I feel terrible that I left off "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" off my list. Should probably focus on work instead of this. Anywho, I love that show to death and though it teetered on jumping the shark in Season 7, Season 8 more than made up for it.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say so for the Simpsons, the last 10 years haven't been up to the standards of the classic era, but it hasn't been actively bad either. And even if it was, seasons 5-9 would cancel it out. Now Family Guy, they're pissing away their legacy with each passing week, the last 3 seasons have been awful.
ReplyDelete(Cue the "Family Guy was never any good to begin with" comments...)
I had a crush on Candace Cameron...she's still pretty hot now!
ReplyDeleteShe got really hot after the show. Another chick that got super hot? Sarah Powell from Charles in Charge.
ReplyDeleteI was in love with her when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite episode was the one with the misunderstanding.
ReplyDeleteI liked Cheers, but Frasier was on a different level for me. Loved it.
ReplyDeleteCrap beat me to it.
ReplyDeleteSame answer as yesterday's : WCW Monday Nitro!
ReplyDeleteWhat, no love for MTM Enterprises? No Mary Tyler Moore, nor (Bob) Newhart? Shenanigans, I say! Norman Lear and MTM were '70s trailblazers as far as the sitcom goes.
ReplyDeleteShe sure grew up nicely! So much hotter now than Nicole Eggert who was hot when the show was on.
ReplyDeleteIt only ran for twelve episodes, but Fawlty Towers. "The Germans" and " Communication Problems" might be the funniest episodes of any sitcom ever.
ReplyDeleteI could binge watch MASH, Seinfeld, Cheers, SImpsons, Always Sunny, The Office (US), Arrested Development, Friends, Home Improvement, and Fresh Prince all day and not get bored, but I have to go with a classic: I Love Lucy. Lucille Ball's slapstick brilliance just puts me in the best mood.
