WWE to Fire AJ Lee Due To Constant CM Punk Chants?

Found this on the front page of Yahoo. I have no idea how credible this report is but a source has reportedly told the Epoch Times that the WWE is considering letting AJ go, hinting that she is to blame for all of the Punk chants and that she is basically not good enough through her ability and that she is easily replaceable. Anyway, I provided the link to the article below.

What do you guys think?

To pull a South Park reference:

    "That sounds kinda..."
    "DUMB DUMB DUMBDUMBDUMB"

    ReplyDelete
  2. AJ is easily replaceable though as are the rest of the Diva's.
If they are not chanting for Punk, they are dead quiet.

    ReplyDelete
  3. The front page of Yahoo! has turned into nothing but links to click bait sites. It's really disappointing, and I wish there was a way to filter out these sites.

This seems like nothing but pure clickbait as well.

    ReplyDelete
  4. It really does but weird that they would do that for a wrestling article.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I don't buy this at all. The chants have been plaguing AJ Lee matches for months. WWE wouldn't keep putting the title on her if they were considering firing her.

On the subject of the chants - I don't like them during AJ's matches and kind of feel bad for her. But WWE could eliminate them for the most part if they started creating interesting and meaningful programs for her.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Well, Punk's return is on the horizon...

    ReplyDelete
  7. I barely care.

But if WWE thinks she's the cause...they are in for a surprise.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yeah if anything canning her will only make the problem worse.

It personalizes it based on your search history and what not. My Yahoo front page news feed is all wrestling and sports stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  10. That was my takeaway here (if there is one to be had, which there probably isn't).

    ReplyDelete
  11. If they move forward with the Stephanie McMahon vs. AJ Lee angle they teased on that one Raw, then they should go all in and have AJ Lee cut a promo saying her new married name is AJ Punk. Maybe they could get the fans to chant "AJ Punk" instead of "CM Punk" during her matches.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yes, let's fire one of our best workers who the fans really like, that'll help fix the situation.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Bullshit clickbait story.

If WWE wanted to avoid the chants, they'd either take her off TV or put her primarily on taped shows like Smackdown. It's not like the CM Punk chants are really doing anything to promote Punk, and if so, so what? It's not like he's wrestling for another league.

It's not the CM Punk chants really hurt the Divas matches.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I wouldn't automatically say all the fans really like AJ. The crowds have been dead during the diva's matches for months.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Stranger in the AlpsOctober 8, 2014 at 12:17 PM

Meh....who cares. The Divas division has been nothing but Stephanie's vision of what she wanted it to be: a bunch of models who appear on their own reality show. Honestly, from the days of Wendi Richter and Moolah til now, no one has ever given a crap about women who wrestle. The ones that actually do are in a small minority. Also, let's face another fact: they aren't going to take their clothes off anymore. So, in the end, they are nothing but an excuse to cross promote a reality show that only THEY think is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The crowds have been dead during the vast majority of divas matches since Trish left.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Also on the Yahoo front page is speculation that CM Punk and Sting will be in the Royal Rumble because its going to be 40 man this year. Wouldn't take it seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I wasn't. Mainly threw it up here for discussion

    ReplyDelete
  19. Haha, didn't say you were, you asked us what we though, so I answered.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree with you.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The fact that there are still Punk chants going on is baffling.

Did fans chant this long for Austin (if they did at all) after he walked out?

    ReplyDelete
  22. This report is about as credible as Vince Jordan's opinion on RAW. Take that as you wish.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Would it take that much to give the fans something ELSE to chant during AJ Lee's matches?

    ReplyDelete
  24. They need to give the fans a reason to chant. That division is just awful.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I wouldn't take that as a measuring stick. Austin left at a time where there were a LOT more interesting things going on. I think fans are chanting for CM Punk partially out of being bored with the current product and missing him. Punk and Bryan were usually the best part of RAW... currently neither is there. At least the rise of Ambrose is giving them someone they feel they can connect with in Bryan's absence.

Plus, WWE went well out of its way to spin it to make Austin look bad -- they really didn't do that to Punk.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yeah. It would take the focus off the TOTAL DIVAS! (trademark symbol)

God forbid they don't keep feeding this mutilated corpse well past it's 15 seconds of relevance.

    ReplyDelete
  27. OMG CM PUNK IS NOT COMING BACK FOR WRESTLEMANIA 31!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think there could be some truth to this but I dont see them letting her go until some NXT talent is called up. In my opinion, I think AJ is going to eventually quit/ not re sign her contract so her and Punk can have a married life and start a family. But until the Divas division improves I dont see AJ going anywhere

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sounds like bullshit - they only gave her the title a couple weeks ago and the chants were around well before then

    ReplyDelete
  30. Considering AJ is the most talented diva they have and is currently the Diva's champion I'd hardly take this seriously... Surely it would to equate to a burial and a lot less tv time if they were really going to do this?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Trish, Lita, Victoria, and Mickie James would like a word with you.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Because no one chanted CM Punk while AJ was on sabbatical after Paige won the title the night after Mania? At least the crowd is saying SOMETHING during divas matches that is better (perhaps not to WWE's ears) than "boring"; this just seems rather dumb on its own, unless she has adopted her husband's prickly attitude backstage.

The booking of the Paige-AJ feud has not helped, but AJ seems to have been dropping in popularity (she was getting huge reactions in the Bryan-Punk-Kane stuff) since the weird run as Raw GM. It sounds like they have a fair amount of NXT talent on its way (although Paige has in no way lived up to the hype, even accounting for the lousy booking), but why not use AJ to get those people over before firing her?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'd say at best the Punk chants are a bullshit reason to dump AJ because she has no value currently. The women's division is a terribly booked joke, and she's not looking as good these days, getting scary skinny. Her time is running out anyway, she's 27.5 and they have a handful of NXT ladies they can bring up now and WWE doesn't skip a beat, along with the Alicia Fox types that stay employed because *shrug*.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I forget....what's the name of Vince McMahon's theme music again???

    ReplyDelete
  35. She does look awful.
Has the body of a 12 year old boy who runs long distance track

    ReplyDelete
  36. I honestly think the workers in the division are the best since Trish and Lita. That's obviously not coming through in the product that airs on Raw. But if they gave meaningful storylines and enough time to workers like AJ, Paige, Charlotte, Baylee, Nattie, and Emma then I think the division could be pretty good. Of course, if WWE won't make the tag, US, or IC title divisions interesting, then there's no hope for the Divas.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Mitch, The GodfatherOctober 8, 2014 at 12:37 PM

Never been attracted to her and don't see how most are.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Total Divas Viewers Averages By Season (in millions)
    Season 1: 1.39
    Season 2: 1.20
    Season 3: 1.08 (so far)

I know it's cheap reality programming for E!, but I am sure the average Kardashian rerun does better numbers at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't know.....all this talk of AJ quitting since the moment she got engaged to Punk seems more than a little sexist. Like I said, the rumors pretty much began the second they got engaged, and since then, any time she loses a match or a title or goes on a break, the talk is "people don't expect her to return." Except she always DOES return. And she always DOES win the title back. Let's put it this way: When Natalya and Tyson Kidd got married, nobody expected HIM to quit despite the fact that she was clearly higher on the card than he was.

    ReplyDelete
  40. is diminishing

  42. I officially hate New Girl.

    I just looked up micropenis...

    ReplyDelete
  43. She's ten years younger than Layla and Tamina.

    ReplyDelete
  44. ... because neither Natalya or Tyson quit the company?

    ReplyDelete
  45. The non-Punk reactions to her are still clearly far and above the rest of the Divas division.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Agreed her looks are overrated (don't get me wrong - still would) but she's mega over with young girls, can work and is has a good few years left. Paige shits all over her in every category though

    ReplyDelete
  47. Certainly in paleness.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Her feud with Paige is embarrassingly bad, a fact that is overlooked due to the even worse Bella's feud, and the crowds are not reacting to them. Havent been for a while either.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Tamina isn't a sex symbol and we've been reminded copiously why she has her spot. Layla, fair enough. ~30 is when most of the women seem to be forced out, though.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh yeah, in that case AJ shits all over her in tan-ness. Maybe not every category then

    ReplyDelete
  51. I blame knuckleheaded wrestling fans for it.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I am coming around on Paige though. She is so much better as a heel than face, and I am starting to find her quite attractive.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarOctober 8, 2014 at 12:49 PM

The names you mentioned produced better quality matches, but they're still in the same boat as the other women wrestlers for the most part. People gave a little bit more attention to Trish-Lita and Trish-Mickie feuds because they actually had well-written stories (or lesbian overtones) that engaged the viewer.

If the stories they were telling didn't suck, the current crop could get over better, too.

    ReplyDelete
  54. And you can put some blame on the Diva's too. There hasn't been a star since.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarOctober 8, 2014 at 12:50 PM

How long after ECW died were the chants happening?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Adam "Colorado" CurryOctober 8, 2014 at 12:50 PM

    Isn't the word pretty self-explanatory?

    ReplyDelete
  57. It's hard to become a star when you're only on TV for a few minutes each week in matches that range from mediocre to business-exposing.

I honestly believe that all the praise the NXT girls are getting now will quickly turn to criticism when they're plugged into the WWE "Diva Formula" and spend most of their ring time stuck with the Alicia Foxes and Nikki Bellas of the world.

Sure, Ric Flair could drag the proverbial broomstick to three stars, but he had infinitely more freedom than Charlotte will EVER have.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think AJ's great and a solid foil, if booked correctly, for any top woman who can actually wrestle. I think her and Paige could really put on a much better match in an environment that actually cared about the quality of women's matches.

How she can blamed for the Punk chants is beyond me. I haven't seen her egg it on once on TV.

She's also from my hometown, so there's that.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Adam "Colorado" CurryOctober 8, 2014 at 12:53 PM

If this is true (which I doubt) people should chant for Punk non-stop during Miz matches.

    ReplyDelete
  60. People should chant for ANYTHING BUT MIZ during Miz matches. His opponent, the referee, the announcers, other wrestlers, hell, pick some guy out of the crowd and cheer for them.

    ReplyDelete
  61. It is, but I didn't think it was actually a thing.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarOctober 8, 2014 at 12:55 PM

    STAND BACK!

    No, that's not it...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Creative is the problem but none of the women since Lita or Trish have been able to connect with the fans they way those two did. And as much as people want AJ to be that person, she isn't. AJ peaked two years ago. She is not getting back to that level. I'd bet everything I own on that.

    ReplyDelete
  64. The most popular diva since the Trish days is easily replaceable? Are they nuts?

    ReplyDelete
  65. A hearty "lol" is all this "article" deserves.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Also people are chanting for CM Punk because he was a very popular wrestler who felt like he was getting dicked around with and left. People want to see them make it right and get him to come back, how hard is that to understand?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Other than the Bella stuff, and angles that get quickly dropped (Crazy Alicia Fox, Fighting Funkadactyls), there's whatever the title feud is, with everyone else standing around doing mostly nothing.

If, say, Charlotte would get called up, I could see her immediately going over whoever the champ is again, the previous challenged just winding up with the rest of the pack doing nothing, and zero maximizing of the women they have on the roster to do anything other than five-minute multi-diva matches.

If Trish/Jazz/Lita/Molly actually wasn't ages ago, I'd say it felt like ages ago.

    ReplyDelete
  68. They have NXT divas in their 30s. The days of a diva's lifespan ending at 29 seem to be over.

    ReplyDelete
  69. And I've never seen Jesse's intro to that song, or his "band" before now.

Holy shit, this just crossed into epic.

    ReplyDelete
  70. They need to pair her up with a guy again, that is when she was at her most entertaining. Her and Ziggler were broken up too soon.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Stranger in the AlpsOctober 8, 2014 at 12:59 PM

In all seriousness, there's a reason why women's matches have historically been called "nacho breaks". Even during the Trish-at-her-peak days.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Make it right by doing what, exactly?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarOctober 8, 2014 at 1:02 PM

As a character, AJ peaked before she even started to wrestle regularly. Once she became part of the Divas Division, no one cared anymore. Interacting with Daniel Bryan, CM Punk and John Cena were the main reasons the audience cared about her.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yeah but dude, who doesn't get dicked around in the wrestling biz? Everyone from Daniel Bryan to Damien Sandow puts up with it because it's their job. Punk got bored/lost the passion and went home

    ReplyDelete
  77. Sadly, that's like comparing Shaq (Trish) to the "world's tallest midget" (AJ), in terms of their popularity.

AJ in 2000/01 could have joined that "pantheon". 1999-2000 T&A Trish would probably be Diva #6 on Total Divas, and relegated to popcorn break matches on house shows. She might improve a little, but other than being "Random Love Interest" in a midcard feud, she'd leave very little to remember her by, other than THOSE BOOBIEZ!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I attended Survivor Series 2002 and truly enjoyed the "hardcore" match between Trish and Lita. The tag match involving Rico was a nacho break match thanks to Jeff Hardy.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Mitch, The GodfatherOctober 8, 2014 at 1:05 PM

So would just giving him the title make it right?

    ReplyDelete
  80. The division means nothing right now. Everyone is replaceable.

    ReplyDelete
  81. It's petty and spiteful and short-sighted and seems to fit with all the other WCW decisions that Vince is making these days.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Adam "Colorado" CurryOctober 8, 2014 at 1:07 PM

Wasn't the crowd chanting "Hot Dog Vendor" or something during the infamous Orton/Sheamus match the night after WM29?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Gunther the Nasty LoserOctober 8, 2014 at 1:07 PM

Assuming it happens, would a "wrongful termination" suit carry any weight given the wonky "independent contractor" deal?

Also, TIL that Charlotte (Flair) is married to Bram

    ReplyDelete
  84. I remember reading somewhere that AJ moves a decent amount of merch, which is likely why they kept her around after Punk/let her go on a honeymoon.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Adam "Colorado" CurryOctober 8, 2014 at 1:09 PM

I doubt it, even without the independent contractor thing it would be almost impossible to prove that she got fired because of Punk.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Gunther the Nasty LoserOctober 8, 2014 at 1:10 PM

I really don't get the appeal of Paige

    ReplyDelete
  87. Cena sells more merch than the entire roster combined. It cant be that much she is moving to make a difference.

    ReplyDelete
  88. He was very specific about what he wanted, the main event of Wrestlemania.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Punk left in the prime of his career because he didn't need the money and doesn't want to be Damien Sandow.

    ReplyDelete
  90. CruelConnectionNumber2October 8, 2014 at 1:11 PM

85 pound AJ Lee as a HEEL is ridiculous. The chick is worthless. Eat a sandwich!

    ReplyDelete
  91. He stated he wanted the Main Event of Wrestlemania in about 23852389352 interviews and even rejected a match with HHH that would not be the Main Event.

    ReplyDelete
  92. CruelConnectionNumber2October 8, 2014 at 1:12 PM

Nope, WWE can fire anyone at any time for any reason. You sign the right for them to do so.

    ReplyDelete
  93. There's NO WAY this story is true at all.

    ReplyDelete
  94. They were hardly going to turn him into Damien Sandow. I think it's obvious he lost his passion for the biz and maybe even became jealous that Daniel Bryan was more over than him

And that money's gonna run out sooner or later

    ReplyDelete
  95. It'd be cool if he at least reached out to his fans on why he left.

    ReplyDelete
  96. And Dave Meltzer didn't even report it!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Mitch, The GodfatherOctober 8, 2014 at 1:14 PM

    Punk vs. Orton

I can get down with that.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Gunther the Nasty LoserOctober 8, 2014 at 1:15 PM

The story: "TNA out of financial crisis; secures long term television deal and substantial financial support"

    (I keed, I keed)

    ReplyDelete
  99. OK, the story is obvious clickbait BS so I'll disregard that but...

Anytime AJ finds her way into a thread, it usually ends up with posters lamenting the downward spiral of the Divas division since the days of megastar Trish Stratus. Now maybe I'm missing something (and the HHH 2002-ish reign of terror era is the most tuned out I've ever been as a fan), but was Trish ever really a big star? The most over things I ever remember her being apart of was barking like a dog as Vince's mistress and the crowd turning on her in the Mickie James match at Mania 23. Oh, and being the prize in the Jericho/Christian feud. Otherwise I just remember her holding the Divas title forever and wrestling matches against Jazz/Ivory/Victoria etc that fans could give half a shit about.

What am I missing? Was there a period where little girls went bonkers for their hero Trish Stratus? Were crowds filled with people in Stratusfaction gear? Were her matches and feuds selling points of TV and PPVs?

The WWE hype machine definitely promotes her as having been the female Hulk Hogan, but honestly it seems like AJ is already doing what Trish did. (Too bad the PG era doesn't allow for Paige to be her Mickie James.)

    ReplyDelete
  100. Yeah but without the Miz... there'd be no Damien Mizdow. I read a cool booking idea on another site - someone suggested Sandow get so into the character that he actually BECOMES The Miz, and goes full on heel with it (attacks Miz etc), name change and everything

    ReplyDelete
  101. I think Lita and Trish were a legit draw for quite a few young ladies in the crowd. Lita sold a ton of DVDs as I recall and I don't imagine it was a lot of guys buying the set. Oddly, I think those very same young girls who liked Lita and Trish are in no ways fans of the current Divas and nor do I think they're legit draws. (I'm not saying Rock/HHH/Kurt Angle level draws, but a draw none the less.)

I have no idea. But I stand by my first sentence.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Given that HHH hasn't picked up a win since March of 2013 I would see a match with him as a lot less prestigious than the main event.

    ReplyDelete
  103. My how times have changed.

    ReplyDelete
  104. She just does it for me man, I like the pale gothic look though. People who don't like pale skin/UK accents won't be into her I guess

    ReplyDelete
  105. Mitch, The GodfatherOctober 8, 2014 at 1:18 PM

Always thought at their peaks, Lita was more over than Trish.

    ReplyDelete
  106. "What's AJ Mendez doing in the Impact Zone, Taz?"

    ReplyDelete
  107. Gunther the Nasty LoserOctober 8, 2014 at 1:19 PM

Lita and Trish definitely had peaks

(BEWBS, I'm talking aboot their BOOBAGES)

    ReplyDelete
  108. What's Jay Lethal's somehow not black sister doing in the Impact Zone?

    ReplyDelete
  109. He's gotten plenty of chances to shine at Mania. He has nothing to complain about

    ReplyDelete
  110. Lita as Edge's manager meant way more to business than Trish Stratus ever did, definitely.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Gunther the Nasty LoserOctober 8, 2014 at 1:20 PM

    Creepy

Besides, WWE already hinted at it with Burchill and Katie Lea

    ReplyDelete
  112. Since the MITB I can't recall him having any major matches at Mania except 29 vs. Undertaker and 29 he did not win.

    ReplyDelete
  113. If AJ and the WWE were going to part ways because of CM Punk it would have happened already. While I do think she is riding out her contract, I doubt AJ is leaving, getting fired, or whatever anytime soon.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I think Lita was more over when paired with Edge and the Hardy Boys, but that had to do with the pairings as a whole. I believe that Trish, as a singles performer, was both more talented and more over.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Mitch, The GodfatherOctober 8, 2014 at 1:22 PM

I was talking about 2000 but that works as well.

    ReplyDelete
  116. And he lost to the Undertaker at Wrestlemania? He should've quit on site. Come on, the guy was burnt out and didn't want to be there anymore. He was gonna leave anyway

    ReplyDelete
  117. Mitch, The GodfatherOctober 8, 2014 at 1:24 PM

I just never thought Trish was that great. Victoria, Mickie, Lita, Molly Holly, and even Jazz were more talented. I could even throw in Ivory if I was feeling frisky.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I understand why the WWE might be annoyed when the fans chant "CM Punk" everytime AJ appears but at the same time they are hoping fans would chant "YES! YES! YES!" everytime Brie Bella appears.

    ReplyDelete
  119. That would actually be a case where they are using the person's real name.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Exactly. Fans didn't give a shit about Trish Stratus matches.

    ReplyDelete
  121. And honestly, Trish the Wrestler's pops weren't that huge either. There I said it. Let's face it: the last time a "diva" got any REAL big heat was probably during a bra and panties match.

    ReplyDelete
  122. They did have that one Raw in NC where Lita and Trish main evented and it had a great crowd reaction. I actually prefer the Diva's division now but a lot of that is because now that I'm older, I'm more open minded to women's wrestling and less ECW mutant about it.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Oh, Molly Holly was clearly the most talented of any of them. I think Victoria and Mickie were also better wrestlers. Trish's stuff always looked a lot cleaner to me than Lita's. Lita could be very sloppy.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Mitch, The GodfatherOctober 8, 2014 at 1:30 PM

As Scott always said, Lita would have been better if she didn't throw punches.

    ReplyDelete
  125. THIS. Just embrace and actually use the heat.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Lita's most over period was as Edge's manager, and second most was as the Hardy's manager/partner. AJ's most over time was with Bryan and Punk.
The most Trish Stratus ever meant to the product was when she was barking as a dog for Vince, and being fought over by Jericho and Christian.

    No?

    ReplyDelete
  127. Yikes, Epoch Times? Anybody who clicks on that site better get a new computer because your current computer will be destroyed by all the malware from a site that's basically a celebrity tabloid version of PWInsider.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Gunther the Nasty LoserOctober 8, 2014 at 1:34 PM

Just like with Rockstar Spud and One Dirty Bitch

    ReplyDelete
  129. Fair enough. In the hypothetical case that Lita and Edge were still together when she left the company, would anybody expect Edge to quit?

    ReplyDelete
  130. And I will disagree with that statement. No, they didn't care as much as they might have for a Austin, Rock, Taker, Angle, HHH, Jericho... but I would argue they WERE somewhere near "IC-level" popularity during most of the Trish/Lita/Victoria/Early Mickie years.

And since, any "prestige" the Divas may have had has been thrown away in bits and pieces, leading to the current state of the Divas division, to where being a "piss-break" PPV match is their ceiling.

    ReplyDelete
  131. When has the division actually "meant" anything to WWE business though? Trish/Mickie was the one time I ever remember a women's match at Mania being anything more than a piss break, and it was greatly in part to a lesbian angle and Mickie was getting all the heat in the match.

The women's division has always been meaningless and replaceable in the grand scheme of things, as much in the "women's golden age" as it is now.

If anything, Total Divas is probably the most profitable thing that women's wrestling has ever done for WWE.

  133. When has the division meant less than it does now?
The friggin' LayCool stuff was better than this .

    ReplyDelete
  134. "Oh my God, it's MC Dunk!" (CM Punk's black alias)

    ReplyDelete
  135. Nope, nor would Edge get Lita chants.

    Why:

Edge, at that time, WAS a genuine main eventer and wouldn't get "Lita" chants, unless he did something really stupid.

Also, Lita had her fanbase, but she was NOT on Punk's level when he left. Now Lita leaving in a well-publicized tiff during the peak of Trish-Lita (or Trish leaving then) MIGHT have gotten a chant or two during bad segments, but nothing lasting unless the product completely tanked.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Wouldn't shock me if they did chant that during the commercial break.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Still doesn't excuse the shady links and malware associated with that site.

    ReplyDelete
  138. No. Not even close.

Lita's most over period with with the Hardyz and her singles run came close.

AJ's was either the love triangle or now.

Trish's was her epic singles run that more or less restored some level of credibility to the women's title.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Trish was Canadian so her worth will be wildly exaggerated around these parts.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Restored it to levels of? And that run led to? He's spot on with his barking like a dog as the high point of her value to the company.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I'm not disagreeing about entertainment value. WWE overall is in a terrible place creatively right now, about as bad as I can remember. So yes, the current divas programs suck, as does the majority of WWE TV right now.

But when has the WWE women's division ever meant anything? Even the Trish Era was piss break stuff in the overall scheme of things, and the women weren't actually stars, other than compared to one another.

    ReplyDelete
  142. No. It's nigh impossible for independent contractors to prove malfeasance in their termination.

    ReplyDelete
  143. CZW may outlived TNA

    ReplyDelete
  144. Awwww, poor guy. You know who else wants to main event Wrestlemania? Everybody.

    ReplyDelete
  145. More shocking:

CZW Turns 15 (longer than WCW, ECW, TNA, and PLENTY of other groups have lasted)

    OR

CZW Star becomes WWE Main Eventer.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Restored it to as much as it ever meant, which I grant you isn't much, but it's more than it was when Ashley Massaro or Kelly Kelly were feuding over it.

As far as what it lead to in the future, if you're going to use the future to discredit the past, we're gonna go down a deep-ass hole here and I hardly have the time.

Also, considering Trish sold no t-shirts and made no money for them during the barking era, but sold a shitload later on as a wrestler, nope, he couldn't be further off on that mark.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Vickie Guerrero as GM meant more to this business than Trish ever did.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Let's ask Punk who is better, AJ or Lita.

....You know what I mean, right?

    SEX.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Trish/Mickie was a hot feud. Trish/Lita was another solid feud.
AJ has never had a solid feud as a singles wrestler. No one cares about her awful feud with Paige, which is as poorly written as anything else the WWE has done in years.
My point is AJ peaked a few years ago (as a bit player in a feud) and has never even had a feud with Trish, Mickie, Lita, Wendi Richter or anyone else. She is nowhere near close the non-wrestling performer like Sherri Martel or the other great valets and for these reasons, should not be mentioned with them as the best.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Trish and Lita were in multiple main storylines at various times, and while nobody sane thought they were on the level of the tippy-top guys, they weren't throw-away eye candy either.

See: McMahon Family Saga (Yeah, Trish barked like a dog. She also came out of that whole angle a HELL of a lot better than she came in), TMPT vs Hardys, Taker vs Hardys, HHH/Angle...

    ReplyDelete
  151. I'm shocked she lasted this long.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Heel Trish in 2004 - 2005 was GOLD, especially when it came to handling the hostile crowds towards Lita.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Trish/Mickie was a hot feud, in what, the 5th year of Trish's run as the most pushed female wrestler of all-time? (Compared to AJ being a singles wrestler for what, a year plus now?) And was it hot because everyone was so psyched about babyface hero Trish, or because lesbian psycho Mickie James was awesome? (The crowd reaction at Mania might answer that one.) And other than that... Trish/Lita was a "solid feud"? So that's Trish "Hulk Hogan" Stratus's HOF singles career?

Trish had longevity and the superman push and gets the WWE hype machine's glossy nostalgia treatment, but for the length of her run that's a pretty blah output.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Especially the great credible source that's known as Yahoo, such a great credible source that even Fox News ridicules it on a regular basis.

    ReplyDelete
  155. This can't be really true? That would be really pathetic. Those chants aren't even big anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  156. He hates wrestling fans. I thought he would at least do Austins podcast.

  158. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarOctober 8, 2014 at 2:06 PM

Nope, or the overall crappy quality of the product. I get so annoyed when they win stuff, especially considering their crazy connections

    ReplyDelete
  159. Trish's singles feuds > AJ's single feuds. Its not close, really.

    ReplyDelete
  160. "So that's Trish "Hulk Hogan" Stratus's HOF singles career?"

FOR A WOMAN IN WWE, absolutely, Trish did have a "Hulk-like" career. Judging her against a Hogan, an Austin, a Cena, or even someone two levels below that is downright dishonest, because she could never have gotten that level of opportunity. And the times she did have any sort of impact on the product, it WAS positive.

    ReplyDelete
  161. And you know who got to? The fucking MIZ.

    You can't explain that.

    ReplyDelete
  162. "Trish had longevity and the superman push and gets the WWE hype machine's glossy nostalgia treatment, but for the length of her run that's a pretty blah output."
She spent about six years total in the WWE. Not all of them were as a singles wrestler either and she retired when she still has performing well.
It's not close between who is the bigger star when it comes to Trish and AJ.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Eh, I enjoyed the Miz's heel run into that awful WM way more than I ever enjoyed anything Punk did.

    ReplyDelete
  164. AJ has never even had a solid feud as a singles wrestler. Not one.

  165. Biff Kensington IIIOctober 8, 2014 at 2:20 PM

If true, it would simply vindicate what everyone has thought of the promotion for years: lowlife, insecure, immature, brow-beating morons who put paper thin feelings and neurotic nepotism ahead of the business they purport to love so much, yet cannot even mention it by name. Fuck WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  166. I was about come here and say THANK YOU VINCE but then I read the story and it sounds like total bullshit. Unfortunately she's the only over diva (she isn't good in the ring though, enough with that) and we're stuck with her on TV for awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  167. All depends on how much her merchandise is selling. No matter her level of talent, the role she's currently filling could be replaced by literally any other Diva on the roster.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Everybody knows you hate women's wrestling, man. We get it.

    ReplyDelete
  169. No diva has ever been or ever will be irreplaceable. All of them have been varying degrees of suck.

    ReplyDelete
  170. You know, I never would have said that someone could have a "wrong" opinion, but...... here we are.

    ReplyDelete
  171. What's wrong with that? Women's wrestling sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Trish took some really crazy bumps when she first showed up and was doing the TNA tag team thing. Like some really wild bumps. Other than that I never saw it either. Obviously she's hot.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Low/no-content posting is garbage.

    ReplyDelete
  174. AJ is not leaving WWE. It's been clear since more or less her debut that she's somebody's pet project given everything that gets handed to her (the entire main event crushing on her, being named Raw GM while an active wrestler, the loooooooong Divas Title reign, burying all of Total Divas in one promo, the switch back with Paige, etc.).

    ReplyDelete
  175. Totally disagree, Lita always had a huge star to lean on, whether it was the super over Hardy's or a super over Edge, Lita was always part of some bigger package. Oftentimes Trish was left to her own devices to get over as an actual wrestler.

    ReplyDelete
  176. AJ had a really good PPV series with Kaitlyn when she first won the belt. And yeah, that's been about it as far as good feuds—but the division has also been filled with garbage and WWE is in the midst of the worst Creative they've ever had.

And on the other side, Trish (in her 6+ years with the company?) by your count had a great feud with Mickie (in which the crowd turned on Trish) and a solid feud with Lita. How is Trish Stratus some big star? What am I missing?

And as for AJ, she's already a bigger deal than Trish was at the same point in Trish's WWE career. Trish barking like a dog > AJ/Bryan run

    ReplyDelete
  177. Low/no-content posting >>>>>>>>>>> WWE Divas matches

    ReplyDelete
  178. "Oftentimes Trish was left to her own devices to get over as an actual wrestler." Right, and during those times her spot on the card was pretty meaningless.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Trish/Jazz was better than Kaitlyn/AJ. And Trish had to have moved more merch than AJ.
I don't get how you can say AJ is just as important as Trish was.

    ReplyDelete
  180. "Restored it to as much as it ever meant, which I grant you isn't much," And there ya go, you made my point for me.

Just because she was pushed as the biggest star in the women's division all those years doesn't mean she actually did anything worthwhile. She was the queen of the piss break matches for her time, not some big wrestling star.

    ReplyDelete
  181. I'd add that at least in Vince's eyes everyone is replaceable, aside from possibly Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Thinking AJ is among the best in WWE women's wrestling is insanity.

    ReplyDelete
  183. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryOctober 8, 2014 at 2:35 PM

I think most of us already think that

    ReplyDelete
  184. Piss break matches don't main event RAW.

    ReplyDelete
  185. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryOctober 8, 2014 at 2:37 PM

I wasn't really high on heel Trish. She was super hot as an evil chick, but her heel promo skills basically came down to calling everyone "honey", so much so I was waiting for her to turn into Pooh Bear

    ReplyDelete
  186. Calendars, posters, magazines & videos. Trish, Lita & the other Divas of that period made a SHIT TON of money for the WWF. Plus they were smoking hot, popular with the fans, AND a bunch of them could actually wrestle. Somewhere along the line, though, the Divas evolved from athletes to fitness models to bikini models. None of them have been as talented or popular, and WWE has had to replace quality with quantity. The IWC generally likes AJ because she's put effort into her wrestling ability, but she's nowhere near the wrestler Trish was, and not a sex symbol like the Divas once were (or even some of the other current Divas are).

    ReplyDelete
  187. December or Jan will make what, 3 years that she's been on WWE TV? And she's about a year plus into a run as a singles wrestler. And in that time she's already gotten better and more over than all but a few WWE women wrestlers since they brought it back.

Women's wrestling is what it is, but within that context she's become a big name in a short time.

    ReplyDelete
  188. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryOctober 8, 2014 at 2:39 PM

You had a nacho break during the opening match?

    ReplyDelete
  189. Wasn't she always a wrestler? She was on nxt wrestling I think.

    ReplyDelete
  190. A Rusev interview main evented Raw last month.

    ReplyDelete
  191. Meaningless people don't get main events of Raw, at least during that time period. I'm all for hating womens wrestling because BOOO GIRLS but she was crazy over, always had an angle, and actually wrestled in a division that never sees actual wrestling, she's a legend because she deserves to be.
