  5. So I'm guessing that Andy PG thing isn't happening now.

  6. We're all better off for it. The occasional perhaps weekly "What If?" Isn't the worst idea, but daily AndyPG posts is a terrible idea.

  7. When is the "The King of Kings, The Cerebral Assasin, The Game, The One True Destroyer, HHH Bowl?"

  12. That's right! Rumor was Vince wanted Flair vs. Hogan for WM VII.

  13. I heard negotiations went out the window as soon as Tyson asked for an icepack after the match.

  14. You can make orphans of your opponent's children! Because the widow would die of grief.

  15. Problem was that King did not have control over Douglas, especially after King tried to overturn the decision by claiming that when Douglas was knocked down, there was a long count. King had zero involvement when Buster got beat by Evander

  16. Tyso was beating the crap out of everyone except James Bonecrusher Smith who decided to hold Tyson for 12 rounds. Tyson knocked out Spinks in 93 seconds and speaks never hit the canvas in his career. He was tremendous until that Douglas fight

  17. Pretty sure Tyson. I seen to recall him going into brief semi-seclusion to train for his next fight.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Absolutely. People look at Tyson like he's a joke. Its too bad his greatness as a fighter has been over shadowed.

  19. The country loves under dogs though granpa. Even lifeless slugs like douglas.

  20. Lesnar vs Tyson in their primes. To the death. Lesnar would win of course but dont underestimate the power of the "crazy as fuck".

  21. Gentlemen, please, the champ has no time for any further queries. This parole hearing is over!

  22. I loved how Mike had to act like he was a Stone Cold fan at Royal Rumble 98 then in the interview he goes "Cold Stone is my man!" Then he calls Shawn Michaels, the champ, a "young up and coming hungry tiger."

  23. Petrie has it right above, though. It was a matter of when, not if, Tyson's gravy train would derail. When the going got tough, Tyson was always a quitter.

  24. Complete and utter bullshit.

  25. i watched the tyson/douglas fight a few months ago and it is absolutely unbelievable that this 41/1 longshot manhandled the champ. totally fascinating when you consider how douglas basically had nothing to lose with his recent tragedies.

  26. Reading Herb Kunze's Tidbits, are we? Kunze was full of shit. In like that very same update he reported the Bushwhackers were leaving. Kunze was always anti-WWF and was pro-Japan to a point that would make Meltzer blush, and I seriously think he "reported" the 'whackers winning the titles just so he could have more ammo to rag on the WWF.

  27. It's especially funny since Tyson is such a huge wrestling fan of 1970s WWWF. He frequently talks about his love for Bruno Sammartino and Superstar Graham. But between 1998 being a totally different era and Tyson being out of his mind at the time, it makes sense that he'd butcher his lines.

Also because he's a year younger than Shawn Michaels, so calling Shawn "young" is even funnier.

  28. To call it an upset almost doesn't do it justice. It's not quite USA vs. USSR 1980 Olympic hockey upset-level, but it's pretty damn close.

  30. Upvote for Hayden Planetarium. Awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah, he basically threw his entire life into that fight, got a massive payday fur the next one, and stopped trying thereafter. Showed up to meet Holyfield overweight and didn't even bother trying.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I dunno, Brick hated getting hit, and Tyson was out and out crazy. No holds barred, he's insane enough to win.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I never understood the "fighter X hates getting hit" logic. What fighter likes getting hit? What fighters doesn't try to avoid getting hit?

    ReplyDelete
  34. In the context of fighting, it means the guy retreats, isn't aggressive and folds mentally when struck.

    ReplyDelete
  35. A couple of others had mentioned the Bushwhackers also. I'm glad it never happened.

One of my favourite games of all time.

Until I get to Mr. Sandman and curse my TV out forever.

  38. HBO had a great docu on this fight. Tyson was in his full downward spiral and even got knocked down in sparring. Also they point out that if anything Douglas was somewhat underrated with his big frame and long reach he just never was able to consistently put it together.

Crazy aside ... Tysons camp was so cocky they didn't even bother to pack an En-Swell. So once Douglas started touching his face his corner was helpless to stop the swelling.

  39. Ah I see. Thank you.

  40. His first opponent is Kid Gorgeous, then Kid Presentable, then the last guy is Kid Moe.

  42. I got as far as King Honda, anyone else?

  43. Hell, I remember when at Mania, Hogan gave Warrior the belt and hugged him, Ventura said "at least it wasn't a Mike Tyson/Don King type affair, the man lost it and he's going out a true champion!"

  44. Back during the rantsylvania days i remember saying you reminded me of a smark version of Eddie Ellner.

    Good times.

  45. Yeah, I remember the Blog discussing the fight when Scott posted a SNME review thing involving Douglas, and I went out to do some research. Very interesting stuff, as Douglas was a do-nothing who was lazy... but of course had all the TOOLS for success, and so when he finally hunkered down and did the work, he annihilated the invincible World Champion.
