JR just threw in with the pro-DeMott camp with a longwinded "I don't support verbal or physical assault, BUT" take. Sad. At least it wasn't Jericho's "HURR DURR HOW ELSE ARE YOU GONNA KNOW IF THESE KIDS CAN MAKE IT STU HART BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF ME AND I'M OK HURR DURR" tweet.
... There's actually a pro-DeMott camp? Though it does make sense it would be the old guard, who believe that wrestling should remain backward and full of racist bigots.
Several wrestlers have thrown in, saying that he was just being hard on them to weed out the guys who aren't cut out for it, etc. Either they don't know the details or they suffered worse in their training, so anything short of what they experienced isn't worthy of complaining about in their eyes.
Man, it's weird to see a fan base actively wanting their team to do shitty. I asked the guy I work with if the Sabres won the night before and he says "they lost!" He's happy about it.
I'm sure this whole tanking thing is familiar to Sixers fans but to me it's just strange.
Which really makes you wonder how good a trainer he really would be for them.
I mean, technically, he's right, but this is a shitload of smoke for there not to be a fire and DeMott wouldn't have resigned (or been forced to?) if he had nothing to hide.
A good trainer does need to be hardnosed to a degree, but accusations like the ones made against DeMott should never be met with anything but revulsion and a call for his head pending an investigation. Certainly not "well we don't know we weren't there and besides 20 years ago I had to do hindu squats in the snow naked for some reason so what are these kids complaining about anyway."
It happens, there's been 2 or 3 times where I've wanted the giants to lose out over the years. Usually wanting a coaching change or hoping to land a better draft pick.
To be fair, Storm didn't endorse DeMott or crucify him. I think he was commenting on what fans have been saying. As far as I know, none of this happens at his school in Canada.
Yeah, I realize that came off as sort of accusatory. Shouldn't have. My bad.
I meant that his reaction was very passive and that's a little troubling. You don't have to crucify or convict a guy in your head to make it clear that the sort of conduct he's been accused of has no place in the training of any sport in the 21st century.
I'm not in any way a supporter of taking liberties with people's safety, the weird naked stuff, or racial slurs, but I have no issue with just being a meanie in general.
I don't have an issue with pushing guys to their physical limit. But there's no need at all for the racist and homophobic shit. I just find any kind of hazing fucking childish.
Gonna try watching Starrcade 95 before Walking Dead later. Then I'll be done with 1995 Raws/Nitros on the Network. I had been trying to watch every show in succession, but some of the PPVs are just so bad.
It is! I think the main event is Savage vs. the winner of the Sting/Flair/Luger triple threat. WCW did a pretty terrible job building up the show (at least on Nitro), and I'm already pumped for the potential Horseman/Dungeon feud for Superbrawl
Plus, even if we give some credence to the bullshit claim that hazing weeds out the ones who aren't cut out for wrestling, as others have said, wrestling is one of those things where you figure out pretty quick if it's for you or not. It only takes one or two bumps and the knowledge that you'll be taking countless more before you're making any real money.
In Chris Masters shoot, he mentioned how in OVW they alternated weeks with DeMott and Storm as trainers and how everyone couldnt wait until it was Storm's week to be the trainer as they learned shit from DeMott.
It's about the same, but there's no spectacle. You can barely hear the entrance music, and a lot of guys didn't have it yet, like Dibiase, Jake, Andre, Duggan. It's very brightly lit with bo shifts in lighting for different entrances. And the crowd sucks. It's strangely old fashioned for a 1988 show.
Oh, the bumping shit I have no issue with. Bret said his first 2 months of training were just taking bumps, and he was trained by his own father. But there's no need for the humiliation bullshit.
regarding WM 4, did people know beforehand that savage would win? did people expect dibiase to win? Were there other contenders besides hogan, dibiase, savage and andre?
Not surprising. See, there's sort of three levels to the DeMott stuff: 1) being a hard ass, 2) hazing people and taking liberties, and 3) the worst of the accusations. So many people in the business not only expect #1 but support it. At best they went through it themselves so they have no sympathy for someone who "couldn't cut it". Everyone is against #3. #2 is a broad, hazy area that some people would lump in with #1, others with #3. We as fans look in from the outside and are kind of horrified by all 3 levels, but all those guys in the business, it's not shocking how far into level #2 and approaching #3 some of them have to get before before they see anything wrong.
I'm starting to hate Jericho. Over the past few years, I've heard of stories where he said something racist to an Arabic guy, call another guy a fag, his podcast's first ten minutes would be enough to make anyone hate the guy, he's now a complete WWE shill and his wrestling contributions during his part-time era are useless.
I used to be all Go Jericho Go but now I'm Go Away Jericho Go Away.
I'm not pro-Demott, but I am failing to see the impact on the bigger picture. This thing has been complained about for years, has been well documented, and it doesn't seem to have negatively affected the company's bottom line.
They seem to be negatively affecting their bottom line without this story.
UCLA is in that bad spot where they're decent enough to not suck thanks to Non French Tony Parker but they're not good enough to make a dent in the conference and don't have a wealth of talent in the wings
I love that show too. With Hogan away things suddenly got fun. Imagine that. And the triangle match is underrated, in my opinion. And the world title match has a cool ending.
Went to see Fozzy last night and it was *awesome*. Jericho worked it the entire time, the crowd was rabid for the entire show. We were about 3 people from the front. Jericho is fucking HUGE in person.
Oh man, there was some real nonsense even on here about DeMott last night. Talk about how it's that kind of training that makes real men and real athletes. If someone can show me the connection between homophobia/physical abuse and sports performance, then whatever. But no such fucking connection exists.
The matches had more reason for existing. V was all about Hogan/Savage, with only like 2 other matches having any reason at all for being set up. IV had a show-long storyline and a lot of little programs culminating at it.
Well, it looks like the Dolphins are signing Ndamokong Suh. I want to be excited about that but I can't help but feel he's going to Haynesworth his enormous contract.
I just saw the WWE is holding a house show in Youngstown, OH, my hometown. That's a sure a sign as any business is down and they're booking cheaper buildings. I'm not saying the WWE is in financial jeopardy or anything, but whenever they book Youngstown, they're down business wise. They don't book Youngstown when times are good and they're in demand.
If this happened 30 years ago and the company wasn't publicly owned, DeMott would be just a big mouthed bully and the goings-on would not leave the center like the way years of the petter-assing and the steroids went on before it went went public in the early 90s.
I'm a lifelong Browns fan and I am very happy when they lose. I think a lifetime of watching an incompetent team and fans that will excuse anything had soured me on them.
I heard a lot of stuff that a bunch of bad match types in TNA at the time didn't involve Russo at all, but with his rep and his prominence on the staff, he was always the scapegoat
He would have been gone quick because he sucks at actual training. You get better by wrestling. Intense training does not get you in wrestling shape. Guys long ago wrestled hour-long broadways without doing those drills that DeMott could probably never do himself.
I'd mentioned this a few weeks back, but the ticket prices for live events are outlandish. The cheapest tickets available for the live event in Charlotte back in December were so expensive, it was going to wind up being $100 for two mediocre tickets and parking. Factoring in gasoline, food and souvenirs, it would jack it up between $150 and 200 for two people to watch the same shit we see on Monday nights every week.
I don't know what the deal was; at first I thought they'd sold out (lol) most of the cheap seats, but the arena for the live event was embarrassingly empty (my cousin went and took pictures).
He also seems almost perversely proud of his drunk driving in his second book. He's a super talented guy, but he seems like a complete asshole of a person.
In contrast, I saw those Verne Gagne training tapes from the 70s where it took place in a barn in Minnesota during the holiday season (with no heat) and Verne didn't stretch guys out and be verbally abusive. His quote?: 'You have to learn how to fall. If you don't learn how to fall then you'll get hurt. If you get hurt you can't wrestle. And if you don't wrestle, you don't eat. It's that simple'.
I could see it. From all their signings as of late, Hunter looks like he's making an effort to stack both WWE and NXT with established, talented workers. If they're gonna suck at booking, at least give us guys we like
The disaster of WM31 & WWE 2015 could usher in a new golden age with all the guys they're bringing in now...just not a lot of reason to have faith in them until Vince & Dunn are truly gone.
So my overall take on Wes Anderson took a big shift last night after watching The Grand Budapest Hotel & Moonrise Kingdom. I watched GBH first, and for much of the time was thinking to myself "I *want to* like this, buuuut.. ." Then somewhere late in the movie it won me over. Then the downbeat ending kind of lost me again. But overall I liked it and will revisit it again sometime. After that I watched Moonrise and was... enchanted. I absolutely adore Life Aquatic, and this instantly became my second favorite of his films. Budapest somewhere in 3rd. Darjeeling Limited would be a distant 4th as I was lukewarm to that, and then it goes off a cliff because I detest his first three films. Haven't seen Mr. Fox and have little desire to. I think it comes down to subject matter. If his movies have a distinct subject or setting I'm more inclined to like it. When it's too narrowly focused on the characters (like Rushmore & Royal Tennenbaums) I don't like. Darjeeling was kind of in the middle and I ended up with no strong feelings either way. I also found watching two of his films in succession make you really tired of his style, even if you like the movie.
This has been another installment of "'What The Hell Is This Guy Going On About' Film Reviews".
God, the slowness of that announcer. I still remember that one game: myself and a friend as the Dodgers against the Orioles, just pasting them. I hit a double, he hits a single, I hit a homer, and right as the ball goes over the fence the announcer is JUST calling the runner sliding into second on the double.
I don't wish death or injury upon anyone, but damn do I wish Vince would retire so that we could see wrestling make a comeback. I'm convinced WWE is a dumpster fire until Vince is gone.
Expected, but still disappointed. Of course JR's gonna be a "ten words of lip service, five paragraphs on how it builds character, separates the guys who love THIS BUSINESS from those that just want to be on TV, and Millennials suck."
Yeah but you know, you KNOW, Vince will always be skeptical of his look and Dunn will outright hate it, so he's constantly going to have that working against him. I don't want to see another guy I respect become misused and disrespected the whole time...I've seen it enough.
The PBP is awful in those games. If they spent less lines on player names and more on play-context stuff, it would've been better, though not by much considering the limits of the N64
The shows don't start to get good until Nitro starts. Halloween Havoc and WW3 are awesome shows, but I was bored out of my mind trying to watch Starrcade 94 and Superbrawl V.
I have not specifically watched any of his movies. Just wanted to comment on Darjeeling Limited. I only watch parts of that movie, but I just can't buy Owen Wilson in any serious role, especially when Adrian Brody is right next to him.
Sure. Story like this, there's always gonna be a side of dick measuring tough guys who insist their experience in XYZ was just as bad or worse and it made men out of them and Kids These Days just suck.
Vince needs a better filter than the yes men he's surrounded himself with. The saying about him is he has 100 ideas a day, 10 are genius and the rest are shit and he doesn't know the difference. JR & Cornette new the difference, and Vince was a great editor for Russo, but Dunn is just completely awful at everything, and he has his ear as much as HHH does if not more.
It reminds me of the Chappelles Show sketch where Dave is getting pitched about a shitty movie and is mentally checked out until he's offered an absurd amount of money and he's instantly on board. And in WWE, at least he won't be kidnapped by ninjas....maybe
Ehhhhh... how can Sam just *know* how to play the piano so well as to play in front of a crowd at a concert despite only knowing chopsticks at the beginning of this episode?
Hell, he SHOULD have taken the Umaga gimmick. I would have pitched a fucking fit at the time and called him Unga-Bunga all the same, but he could have made it work and eventually transcended it. Now it's too late, and they've gone full on corporate.
Oh believe me, my hatred of Rushmore & Royal Tennenbaums outweighs my love of Life Aquatic. Before last night the Anderson canon was a sunken ship to me. Now it's achieved neutral bouyancy.
Speaking of Wes Anderson, the SNL Wes spoof last year was one of the best things they've done in ages. Fucking nailed it and Ed Norton does a pretty damn good Owen Wilson
"Oh wooow, what the heck, there's a buncha crazy people standing in our yaaaaard."
Would be nice to assume if earlier in the episode he wasn't sitting there listening to a record of the guy he's stuck inside playing the piano and wondering how the fuck he's going to be able to play that stuff.
I just love busting my Dolphins fan friend's balls about that. "He wanted to sign with you and you made him feel like 'a science experiment' with an 8 hour physical!" Drew's shoulder being turned inside out and the doctors' estimation of a 25% chance to be who he was again (and remember, in SD he was running Martyball, nothing like who he became) figure probably got in Saban's head. Along with Payton impressing Brees with "we're gonna build the offense around you, we're gonna design this together between the two of us" and Saban coming off as not caring which of the two he got, thank Breesus things worked out the way they did, lol.
Neutral Bouyancy. I like the sound of that. That sounds like a place of true contentment. It may be a few years before I can face a Wes Anderson rewatch though.
Jesus, just read the JR post...clearly I was lowballing it when I said "ten words of lip service, five paragraphs of Kids These Days." More like ten pages and a healthy sprinkling in of why can't AP smack his kid in the balls with a switch BAH GAWD.
"NotthatIcondonechildabuse but I had to pick my own switch off the tree and how are you supposed to parent in today's society anyway?" was basically his argument.
He was great in Birdman but no one was fucking beat JK Simmons this year. Sometimes the best shot is to hit a triple in a weak year (see: Julia, Denzel, Bullock, Tomei)
Amazing how people internalize that shit by rationalizing "and I'm a good person, look how I turned out because of it." No, dude, you became a good person DESPITE it.
If he did something like American History X in one of the weaker years, he'd have a great shot. 1998 was also packed, to the point that Him Carrey in Truman Show was shut out despite the Golden Globe win
Ah, the weekly Sunday Afternoon Thread. Curry's one contribution to the BoD.
ReplyDeleteMan, that ain't fair.
ReplyDeleteI usually post the Saturday one too.
ReplyDeleteShots. Fired.
ReplyDelete... There's actually a pro-DeMott camp? Though it does make sense it would be the old guard, who believe that wrestling should remain backward and full of racist bigots.
ReplyDeleteStorm did one of those "If you weren't there, you don't know for sure" bullshit posts.
ReplyDeleteDude, there are people here who are pro DeMott.
ReplyDeleteSeveral wrestlers have thrown in, saying that he was just being hard on them to weed out the guys who aren't cut out for it, etc. Either they don't know the details or they suffered worse in their training, so anything short of what they experienced isn't worthy of complaining about in their eyes.
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen those folks yet, but I'd love to meet 'em.
ReplyDeleteOff to WrestleMania 4...
ReplyDeleteFuck me, 3.5 hours?!
Man, it's weird to see a fan base actively wanting their team to do shitty. I asked the guy I work with if the Sabres won the night before and he says "they lost!" He's happy about it.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this whole tanking thing is familiar to Sixers fans but to me it's just strange.
White Thunder is one. I think there were a few others in yesterday's threads too.
ReplyDeleteThose people suck.
ReplyDeleteWhich really makes you wonder how good a trainer he really would be for them.
ReplyDeleteI mean, technically, he's right, but this is a shitload of smoke for there not to be a fire and DeMott wouldn't have resigned (or been forced to?) if he had nothing to hide.
No, that's the abridged version.
ReplyDeleteThe unedited version lasts your entire life and is, in fact, still going on this moment.
It happens, there's been 2 or 3 times where I've wanted the giants to lose out over the years. Usually wanting a coaching change or hoping to land a better draft pick.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, Storm didn't endorse DeMott or crucify him. I think he was commenting on what fans have been saying. As far as I know, none of this happens at his school in Canada.
ReplyDeleteSee, I'm a Niners fan, and I know they'll just screw up the draft pick anyway.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I realize that came off as sort of accusatory. Shouldn't have. My bad.
ReplyDeleteI meant that his reaction was very passive and that's a little troubling.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that short compared to the modern wrestlemanias?
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone does.
ReplyDeleteI don't have an issue with pushing guys to their physical limit. But there's no need at all for the racist and homophobic shit. I just find any kind of hazing fucking childish.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. Being tough and being a misogynistic, racist, bigoted fuck are not one in the same.
ReplyDeleteWhite Thunder went nuts defending him the other day I believe.
ReplyDeleteGonna try watching Starrcade 95 before Walking Dead later. Then I'll be done with 1995 Raws/Nitros on the Network. I had been trying to watch every show in succession, but some of the PPVs are just so bad.
ReplyDeleteIs that the WCW/NJPW show? It's really good if it is.
ReplyDeleteThese Sam as a woman Quantum Leap episodes must have been a blast to get through. Must be a ton of unseen outtakes and shit.
ReplyDeleteI get the feeling from some of his posts that his username isn't just a reference to Scott Steiner.
ReplyDeleteIt is! I think the main event is Savage vs. the winner of the Sting/Flair/Luger triple threat. WCW did a pretty terrible job building up the show (at least on Nitro), and I'm already pumped for the potential Horseman/Dungeon feud for Superbrawl
ReplyDeletePlus, even if we give some credence to the bullshit claim that hazing weeds out the ones who aren't cut out for wrestling, as others have said, wrestling is one of those things where you figure out pretty quick if it's for you or not. It only takes one or two bumps and the knowledge that you'll be taking countless more before you're making any real money.
ReplyDeleteStarrcade 95 is dope. Good WCW vs New Japan matches and Sting/Luger/Flair triangle match for the title shot.
ReplyDeleteIn Chris Masters shoot, he mentioned how in OVW they alternated weeks with DeMott and Storm as trainers and how everyone couldnt wait until it was Storm's week to be the trainer as they learned shit from DeMott.
ReplyDeleteThe triangle match is good too. Plus it's Liger and Ohtani on the same show, what's not to love?
ReplyDeleteas a ucla bruins fan, our basketball coach is really mediocre so I don't mind it if we don't make the tourney this year
ReplyDeleteI only like the Savage matches
ReplyDeleteIt's about the same, but there's no spectacle. You can barely hear the entrance music, and a lot of guys didn't have it yet, like Dibiase, Jake, Andre, Duggan. It's very brightly lit with bo shifts in lighting for different entrances. And the crowd sucks. It's strangely old fashioned for a 1988 show.
ReplyDeleteOh, the bumping shit I have no issue with. Bret said his first 2 months of training were just taking bumps, and he was trained by his own father. But there's no need for the humiliation bullshit.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't you want them to make it so they recruit better players? It's not like there's a draft.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised after that crowd they did it in Atlantic City again. But the Wrestlemania 5 crowd was better as was the show
ReplyDeleteNo, he was trained by two Japanese wrestlers as they were considered the best to learn from.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing they got some kind of financial incentive to run it there. And yeah, the crowd at 5 is better.
ReplyDeleteSome of the WCW undercards in 95 are truly horrific.
ReplyDeletethe players they recruit are ok (last year had 3 first rounders and this year will have 1-2 first rounders) but our coach doesn't know how to coach
ReplyDeleteregarding WM 4, did people know beforehand that savage would win? did people expect dibiase to win? Were there other contenders besides hogan, dibiase, savage and andre?
ReplyDeleteThe results were accidentally published before the show
ReplyDeleteon reddit?
ReplyDeleteNot surprising. See, there's sort of three levels to the DeMott stuff: 1) being a hard ass, 2) hazing people and taking liberties, and 3) the worst of the accusations. ReplyDeleteI used to be all Go Jericho Go but now I'm Go Away Jericho Go Away.
WWF Magazine published Savage winning the tournament a week before the show
ReplyDeleteI don't think Reddit existed back then, david.
ReplyDeleteSlowly can see the light at the end of my workload tunnel. Closed captioning can gargle my balls
ReplyDeleteWe'll ALWAYS be able to recruit first class guys no matter what anyways.
ReplyDeleteI know; it was a joke.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoyed those eps. Bakula could work it lol
ReplyDeleteI'm not pro-Demott, but I am failing to see the impact on the bigger picture. This thing has been complained about for years, has been well documented, and it doesn't seem to have negatively affected the company's bottom line.
ReplyDeleteThey seem to be negatively affecting their bottom line without this story.

ReplyDeleteWow, Joe said Russo definitely had nothing to do with the horrible Sting/Abyss Last Rites match where the fans first chanted "FIRE RUSSO!"
ReplyDelete...the reverse battle royal HAD to be his, though.
UCLA is in that bad spot where they're decent enough to not suck thanks to Non French Tony Parker but they're not good enough to make a dent in the conference and don't have a wealth of talent in the wings
ReplyDeleteDat Demolition title win doe...
ReplyDeleteAdam Curry: Weekend Warrior.
ReplyDeleteI love that show too. With Hogan away things suddenly got fun. Imagine that. And the triangle match is underrated, in my opinion. And the world title match has a cool ending.
ReplyDeleteForgot that. It was a good moment and lead to the Strike Force breakup
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I like IV better. I just can't explain it.
ReplyDeleteWent to see Fozzy last night and it was *awesome*. Jericho worked it the entire time, the crowd was rabid for the entire show. We were about 3 people from the front. Jericho is fucking HUGE in person.
ReplyDeleteDid he sang Nameless Faceless and Enemy?

If someone can show me the connection between homophobia/physical abuse and sports performance, then whatever. But no such fucking connection exists.
ReplyDeleteHe did Enemy, it was clearly the crowd favourite. I'd say about 80% of the songs were off the last two albums
ReplyDeleteThe matches had more reason for existing. V was all about Hogan/Savage, with only like 2 other matches having any reason at all for being set up. IV had a show-long storyline and a lot of little programs culminating at it.
ReplyDeleteWell, it looks like the Dolphins are signing Ndamokong Suh. I want to be excited about that but I can't help but feel he's going to Haynesworth his enormous contract.
ReplyDeleteAll that remains it's his best work.
ReplyDeleteI just saw the WWE is holding a house show in Youngstown, OH, my hometown. That's a sure a sign as any business is down and they're booking cheaper buildings. I'm not saying the WWE is in financial jeopardy or anything, but whenever they book Youngstown, they're down business wise. They don't book Youngstown when times are good and they're in demand.
ReplyDelete... so who did? Or was that not asked as a follow-up?
ReplyDeleteI'll believe that. I'm not saying Russo is good, but he seems to be the scapegoat for things that are really bad.
ReplyDeleteNot mentioned in specific, just whoever else was on the team at the time. I know it wasn't a cadre of people like WWE has.
ReplyDeleteMILLIONS OF DOLLARS MILLIONS PF DOLLARS MILLIONS AND MILLIONS ABD MILLIONS OF DOLLARS
ReplyDeleteThat D will be nasty if he doesn't pull a Fat Albert
We could be having RAW emanate from Bushkill, PA any week now.
ReplyDeleteI'd go with that. I think the last two Sin & Bones and Do You Wanna Start A War are really good too
ReplyDeleteMakes sense a guy who wrestled as Hugh G Rection would be a giant prick.
ReplyDeleteIf this happened 30 years ago and the company wasn't publicly owned, DeMott would be just a big mouthed bully and the goings-on would not leave the center like the way years of the petter-assing and the steroids went on before it went went public in the early 90s.
ReplyDeleteFozzy really became a good band with All that Remains.
ReplyDeleteThe hometown of Boom Boom Mancini *nods*
ReplyDeleteI remember Paul London saying how he was a huge fan of Jericho until he met him, saying that Jericho came off as "god's gift to everything"
ReplyDeleteYeah Hogan was "suspended" it also left The Giant with nothing to do but we got a good show out of it. I don't think it made a lot of money though
ReplyDeleteI'm a lifelong Browns fan and I am very happy when they lose. I think a lifetime of watching an incompetent team and fans that will excuse anything had soured me on them.
ReplyDeleteDolphins always try to win the Super Bowl in March.
ReplyDeleteThe line will at least. Everything behind it except Brent Grimes still needs a big overhaul though.
ReplyDeleteI heard a lot of stuff that a bunch of bad match types in TNA at the time didn't involve Russo at all, but with his rep and his prominence on the staff, he was always the scapegoat
ReplyDeleteAs long as they're not coming LIVE from Bristol, TN, and the cozy confines of the Vance Middle School Gym, they'll roll along.
ReplyDeleteHe would have been gone quick because he sucks at actual training. You get better by wrestling. Intense training does not get you in wrestling shape. Guys long ago wrestled hour-long broadways without doing those drills that DeMott could probably never do himself.
ReplyDeleteAnd it usually works up until the end of november.
ReplyDeleteTannehill's wife works it all the though. Soooo hot
ReplyDeleteThere's no football in March!
ReplyDeleteOh wait....that was the joke.
Actually, I miss the WLAF.
FRANKFURT GALAXY FTW
I'd mentioned this a few weeks back, but the ticket prices for live events are outlandish. The cheapest tickets available for the live event in Charlotte back in December were so expensive, it was going to wind up being $100 for two mediocre tickets and parking. ReplyDeleteWatching the Cal water polo team go through some stretches, it looks like they're doing Left Shark impressions
ReplyDeleteSexy stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe more I watch Jericho in 98', the more I get angry of how WCW never pushed him.
ReplyDeleteJesus, my WM21 ticket cost $100. That's insane if that's just house shows.
ReplyDeleteAgainst who? Goldberg?
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the deal was; at first I thought they'd sold out (lol) most of the cheap seats, but the arena for the live event was embarrassingly empty (my cousin went and took pictures).
ReplyDeleteJobbing his TV title to Konnan. I can't imagine a worse thing.
ReplyDeleteHe also seems almost perversely proud of his drunk driving in his second book. He's a super talented guy, but he seems like a complete asshole of a person.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying he should've been the one to beat Goldberg, but he was drawing ME levels of heat.
ReplyDeleteGonnad
ReplyDeleteFTFY.
I can't see how he would have made it to the upper card, which was already clogged.
ReplyDeleteGoing to the WWF was the best thing for him at that time.
In contrast, I saw those Verne Gagne training tapes from the 70s where it took place in a barn in Minnesota during the holiday season (with no heat) and Verne didn't stretch guys out and be verbally abusive.
ReplyDeleteHis quote?: 'You have to learn how to fall. If you don't learn how to fall then you'll get hurt. If you get hurt you can't wrestle. And if you don't wrestle, you don't eat. It's that simple'.
So, Joe is definitely talking to WWE now, and according to Jericho, HHH is legitimately a fan of his. Hmmmm...
ReplyDeleteIsn't Youngstown considered a rough area, too?
ReplyDeleteYou know you're a nerd when you have the menu music from the N64 All-Star Baseball games on your iPod
ReplyDeleteDon't you think Joe can make better money working indys and Japan since he'd be one of the bigger names out there?
ReplyDelete+1 for the Galaxy shoutout. My early 2000's create-a-teams always used that logo.
ReplyDeleteI could see it. From all their signings as of late, Hunter looks like he's making an effort to stack both WWE and NXT with established, talented workers. If they're gonna suck at booking, at least give us guys we like
ReplyDeleteI am EXTREMELY disappointed that Synder and Redskins 1 isn't parked on Suh's lawn, and Synder has a 200 million contract, all guaranteed of course.
ReplyDeleteWhere's the nation's beloved Redskins?
I loved those games! If I had a working SNES and N64 still, I'd be gooooone.
ReplyDeleteSo....I need opinions to back my claim that Cabin Boy is a cult classic.
ReplyDeleteAnyone?
You're mistaking them for the Redskins.
ReplyDeleteI agree the Konnan loss was stupid and Konnan didn't need it at all. Jericho would've never made the WCW main event scene though
ReplyDeleteASB2000 is currently in my N64 lol. A lot harder than I remember though
ReplyDeleteIt was either Miami or Washington to open the vaults. Both teams love the high profile free agent signings.
ReplyDeleteEither/or.
ReplyDeleteThe disaster of WM31 & WWE 2015 could usher in a new golden age with all the guys they're bringing in now...just not a lot of reason to have faith in them until Vince & Dunn are truly gone.
ReplyDeleteNobody beats the Skins in March. NOBODY!
ReplyDeleteAnd the guy they legitimately could've had and led them to a Super Bowl win, well...that time they went with Culpepper instead, lol.
ReplyDeleteIf Hunter pitches him that he could see the main roster within a year or so, Joe will easily make more in WWE
ReplyDeleteSo my overall take on Wes Anderson took a big shift last night after watching The Grand Budapest Hotel & Moonrise Kingdom.
ReplyDeleteThis has been another installment of "'What The Hell Is This Guy Going On About' Film Reviews".
Shinjiro Ohtani was DOPE.
ReplyDeleteGod, the slowness of that announcer. I still remember that one game: myself and a friend as the Dodgers against the Orioles, just pasting them. I hit a double, he hits a single, I hit a homer, and right as the ball goes over the fence the announcer is JUST calling the runner sliding into second on the double.
ReplyDeleteFun times.
Fantastic Mr Fox is one of my favorite animated films ever. Funny as all hell
ReplyDeleteIt seemed legit at the time though. Brees had a shoulder injury, and Culpepper had the knee injury. Being a QB, it's hard to ignore the shoulder.
ReplyDeleteEhhhh...
ReplyDeleteI don't wish death or injury upon anyone, but damn do I wish Vince would retire so that we could see wrestling make a comeback. I'm convinced WWE is a dumpster fire until Vince is gone.
ReplyDeleteExpected, but still disappointed. Of course JR's gonna be a "ten words of lip service, five paragraphs on how it builds character, separates the guys who love THIS BUSINESS from those that just want to be on TV, and Millennials suck."
ReplyDeleteYeah but you know, you KNOW, Vince will always be skeptical of his look and Dunn will outright hate it, so he's constantly going to have that working against him. I don't want to see another guy I respect become misused and disrespected the whole time...I've seen it enough.
ReplyDeleteThe PBP is awful in those games. If they spent less lines on player names and more on play-context stuff, it would've been better, though not by much considering the limits of the N64
ReplyDeleteThe shows don't start to get good until Nitro starts. Halloween Havoc and WW3 are awesome shows, but I was bored out of my mind trying to watch Starrcade 94 and Superbrawl V.
ReplyDeleteWCW 2000, with Benoit as champion after Souled Out, and Jericho, Eddy, Malenko and others still around could have been pretty sweet.
ReplyDeleteI have not specifically watched any of his movies. Just wanted to comment on Darjeeling Limited. I only watch parts of that movie, but I just can't buy Owen Wilson in any serious role, especially when Adrian Brody is right next to him.
ReplyDeleteSure. Story like this, there's always gonna be a side of dick measuring tough guys who insist their experience in XYZ was just as bad or worse and it made men out of them and Kids These Days just suck.
ReplyDeleteVince needs a better filter than the yes men he's surrounded himself with. The saying about him is he has 100 ideas a day, 10 are genius and the rest are shit and he doesn't know the difference. JR & Cornette new the difference, and Vince was a great editor for Russo, but Dunn is just completely awful at everything, and he has his ear as much as HHH does if not more.
ReplyDeleteIt's his Ocean Eleven.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of the Chappelles Show sketch where Dave is getting pitched about a shitty movie and is mentally checked out until he's offered an absurd amount of money and he's instantly on board. And in WWE, at least he won't be kidnapped by ninjas....maybe
ReplyDeleteNo, not you too :( I have a very strong allergic reaction to these films. :/
ReplyDeleteEhhhhh... how can Sam just *know* how to play the piano so well as to play in front of a crowd at a concert despite only knowing chopsticks at the beginning of this episode?
ReplyDeleteAye, they're terrible. Yeah it is I think Fall Brawl that's the first show of the year that's actually watchable.
ReplyDeleteRey, Storm, Awesome if he was properly pushed.
ReplyDeleteHell, Clooney basically plays the same role, which works for that character
ReplyDelete"These pipes... are CLEAN!"
ReplyDeleteI consider myself one of twenty-six people on the planet that like that movie. I own the DVD.
Probably cause tournaments rule. Plus, I always say I can watch Wrestlemania IV and V no problem, because of Gorilla and Jesse's commentary.
ReplyDeleteOh boy
ReplyDeleteHell, he SHOULD have taken the Umaga gimmick. I would have pitched a fucking fit at the time and called him Unga-Bunga all the same, but he could have made it work and eventually transcended it. Now it's too late, and they've gone full on corporate.
ReplyDeleteI like how the movie laughs at himself in some occasions.
ReplyDeleteAre you questioning the reality of the Quantum Leap show?
ReplyDeleteTom Cruise should have learned that lesson a while ago.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, most of his recent movies are aware of it, especially Edge of Tomorrow where he plays a giant puss for most of it
ReplyDeleteJust bought it yesterday for $6. When asked why, I exclaimed "It's a cult classic!"
ReplyDeleteHe definitely learned it. He should just have learned it sooner.
ReplyDeleteThe only part that really made me laugh hard was the opening scene where he's in the choir
ReplyDeleteLust Hogan!
ReplyDeleteJack Reacher is fun too, and he jokes around with the character.
ReplyDeleteYeah. And they presented everything so well. To me the show just breezes by.
ReplyDeleteI think so, but he's really turned it around since Tropic Thunder. God he's fucking awesome in that movie
ReplyDeleteI always assumed that when in inhabited the person's body, he took over their skill set also.
ReplyDeleteAnd then, I shut my brain off.
He outclasses RDJ.
ReplyDeleteThe new GM in Washington isn't built that way. As a skins fan I love this time of year, but I don't think its business as usual anymore.
ReplyDeleteSounds like ECW to me.
ReplyDelete"Didn't I see you marching through Trump Plaza like the Bushwackers last night, Monsoon?'
ReplyDelete"You did not!"
Oh believe me, my hatred of Rushmore & Royal Tennenbaums outweighs my love of Life Aquatic. Before last night the Anderson canon was a sunken ship to me. Now it's achieved neutral bouyancy.
ReplyDeleteThe movie was good anyways, but his touch took it to another level. Especially considering how awesome, yet evil the character was.
ReplyDeleteHate the characters, but the journey they take interests me. So my overall reaction was "eh".
ReplyDeleteThat's clearly the biggest jump in logic in that show.
ReplyDeleteHe probably gains their physical skills but not memories. I don't remember the show too well however.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Wes Anderson, the SNL Wes spoof last year was one of the best things they've done in ages. Fucking nailed it and Ed Norton does a pretty damn good Owen Wilson
ReplyDelete"Oh wooow, what the heck, there's a buncha crazy people standing in our yaaaaard."
I hold out hope for the good ol' Redskins.
ReplyDeleteWould be nice to assume if earlier in the episode he wasn't sitting there listening to a record of the guy he's stuck inside playing the piano and wondering how the fuck he's going to be able to play that stuff.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it takes him time to acclimate himself to the person's abilities.
ReplyDeleteAnd then, I shut my brain off.
ReplyDeleteJust because of the premise of the show requires a suspension of disbelief, doesn't mean that simple shit can't make sense.
ReplyDeleteAnd I will forever thank them for that. And laugh in derision at the ESPN jackass who says the Saints should trade Brees and reload.
ReplyDeleteFuck that, let him ride into the sunset on HIS terms. I'll live with a few more average or better years.
Damn, a whole lotta new guys came in between WrestleMania 3 and 4
ReplyDeleteNeutral Bouyancy. I like the sound of that. That sounds like a place of true contentment. It may be a few years before I can face a Wes Anderson rewatch though.
ReplyDeleteStill better than "HE'S TO THE THIRTY, TO THE TWENTY, OUT OF BOUNDS!"
ReplyDeleteJesus, just read the JR post...clearly I was lowballing it when I said "ten words of lip service, five paragraphs of Kids These Days." More like ten pages and a healthy sprinkling in of why can't AP smack his kid in the balls with a switch BAH GAWD.
ReplyDeleteIt's worth it just for the David Letterman cameo.
ReplyDelete"Man I hate fancy lads!"
When is Norton gonna win one? Does he need to do an "Oscar" movie, or anything will do.
ReplyDeleteHaven't read it, was he taking AP's side?
ReplyDelete"NotthatIcondonechildabuse but I had to pick my own switch off the tree and how are you supposed to parent in today's society anyway?" was basically his argument.
ReplyDeleteHe was great in Birdman but no one was fucking beat JK Simmons this year. Sometimes the best shot is to hit a triple in a weak year (see: Julia, Denzel, Bullock, Tomei)
ReplyDeleteAye, he'll probably get one ostensibly for whatever film that year that's really for a lifetimes work
ReplyDelete"He beat him like a government mule!"
ReplyDeleteAnd what genius said that, lol.
ReplyDeleteLET'S SEE WHERE THESE WUSSY NXT KIDS ARE NOW THAT THEY DON'T HAVE OLE BILLY TO KICK AROUND
ReplyDeleteForce them to watch Raw.
ReplyDeleteFantastic Mr.Fox is amazing.
ReplyDeleteYeah fuck that argument. No sane person can make a convincing argument that splitting open a 4 yr old's nut sack is OK.
ReplyDeleteLouis CK nailed it, it's insane that the only group of people that it's acceptable to hit are children
Endless loop of Roman Reigns "promos".
ReplyDeleteAmazing how people internalize that shit by rationalizing "and I'm a good person, look how I turned out because of it." No, dude, you became a good person DESPITE it.
ReplyDeleteIf he did something like American History X in one of the weaker years, he'd have a great shot. 1998 was also packed, to the point that Him Carrey in Truman Show was shut out despite the Golden Globe win
ReplyDeleteOf course, Letterman was on roll back then with "Wanna buy a monkey?" and the whole Uma-Oprah thing at the Oscars.
ReplyDeleteTruman Show is fantastic. I may have to watch that later now.
ReplyDeleteIt's just like people saying Hitler was a good guy who made some mistakes.
ReplyDelete
