Hi Scott/BODers
So...I've just re-subscribed to the network from my UK adress (having spent the previous 6 months residing in a hospital in Texas) and it seems that my first payment isn't due until Apri 5th - about a week after Mania. Seems like a huge oversight on their part given the expected huge number of people who will sign up solely for Mania. There is nothing to stop someone signing up on the day, cancelling the following day and never paying WWE a penny.
S'up with that?
I'm just bummed that Sling TV actually found out my Canadian IP and banned my account. That shit was AWESOME.
Anyway, I was under the impression that your credit card is instantly debited by the $9.99 because you're basically paying in advance, but perhaps they changed the system for the worse?
"Anyway, I was under the impression that your credit card is instantly debited by the $9.99 because you're basically paying in advance, but perhaps they changed the system for the worse?"
ReplyDeleteIf this is true then they are truly leaving money on the table.
when I paid for RR, it charged my CC the same day
ReplyDeleteI signed up April 27 of last yeat. .My payment comes out the 27th of each month
ReplyDeleteLast year my bad
ReplyDeleteHey Scotty, I just signed up for a seven day free trial with Sling TV. I'm thinking of staying on and going with the Epix movie package for $5 more a month because of the Epix Drive-in channel.
ReplyDeleteI was signed up with USTVNOW using an a VPN, but I'm dropping it which means I lose easy access to Raw and Smackdown.
I'm not heartbroken at all.
Yeah, I was disappointed that I got caught by Sling as well, but 20 bucks a month for like 16 channels was kind of steep when you included the WWE Network, Hulu and Netflix, and Sling I really wasn't saving any money by cutting the cable cord.
ReplyDeleteIt's the additonal packages you need to watch for. $5 for Epix channels, $5 for news package, $5 for additional sports channels, $5 for kids channels. And now they're going to add A&E channels as well (History, H2, A&E and Lifetime).
ReplyDeleteI cancelled wwe, when i sighed up for sling. Cancelled Netflix a long time ago. I'm happy.
ReplyDeleteHistory better be a part of the base package, or I'll be pissed
ReplyDeleteI can't really justify getting rid of Netflix, because every once in a while something that interests me gets put up, and it gives me something to watch at work. I am considering trading WWE Network for NJPW World however.
ReplyDeleteI found myself using Netflix lesd and less. Anything i was watching was on hulu, so i went with that.
ReplyDeleteCool, thanks for letting me know about USTVNOW, seems like a pretty neat service.
ReplyDeleteActually, after looking it up again, I believe they will be added to the main package.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.cnet.com/news/sling-tv-comes-to-xbox-one-adds-history-lifetime-to-base-20-package/
I really like Orange is the New Black and the new Unbreakable Kimmy show.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, most of my Netflix watching is reruns of Family Guy, and that's right there on Hulu. Although with bad as WWE has been, I could totally justify cancelling Hulu once the "new" TV season ends, then picking it back up in the fall.
If you're inside the US, get that VPN assist, otherwise it won't work.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good deal overall. You get USA, SyFY, AMC, TNT, TBS, ESPN, and several others.
I had to cancel my credit cards last month, I'm surprised my subscription is still working. I don't remember updating it with the Network... but maybe I did.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I am in Canada, so now that Sling seems to be strict with trying to Geolock it's service, this seems like a good replacement, it looks like the only thing that I would be missing compared to Sling is El Rey, so I need to continue my search to legally watch Lucha Underground. -_-
ReplyDeleteI signed up for the free week last year on March 5th. My card was charged the $9.99 (plus tax--comes to $10.70) on March 12th. It's been deducted every 12th since then.
ReplyDeleteI downloaded orange and house of cards. I could just download everything, but i watch so many shows that hulu is just easier. I wish cbs would've junp on with the ither networks, but you cant argue with the ratings.
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing during the summer.
I thought it would be. That and the ncaa tournament are how i justified it for a month.
ReplyDeleteI signed up for the trial at launch for the espn family, but didn't keep it because i couldn't access the sec network or the sec network+, on watch espn. Really wanted to watch sec baseball. Now i can, which is awesome.
Texas A&M undefeated. 25-0
ReplyDelete*hometown pop*
Lol....play somebody and come see me.
ReplyDeleteStill impressive, very difficult to win 25 baseball games in a row. Watching now to see if my hogs can still the series from lsu.
Fucking Aggies.
ReplyDeleteReally? Partially because I dislike the format of TV shows that run more than 30 min and partly because I really dislike the modern TV drama storytelling (where the writers tend to mistake major character deaths for drama and so that becomes the only source of actual drama. I blame The Sopranos.) But for me, Netflix is all about the films...sure some months have weaker lineups but then I have the previous months stuff too. Thismonth they got 4 Bruce Lee movies, Taxi Driver and Running Man. Dude that is worth $8 a month.
ReplyDeleteI find it easier to "acquire" movies because I like having superior quality. But for TV shows its much easier to stream shit.
ReplyDeleteNetflix has Always Sunny, X-Files, 30 Rock, shows with rewatch potential.
Plus their original content isn't bad. I'm halfway through Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt at the moment.
I feel the same way about the football team and the student body in general.
ReplyDeleteThe baseball team entertains me.
When Sling finds out your Canadian and cancels your account, do you get some portion of the money back or do they just keep it?
ReplyDeleteThe only show that I watch, that I can remember. that had a major character die was Dallas, and he actually died. I think they killed off someone in the finale, but I haven't watched the last season yet.
ReplyDeleteOur taste are just different, although Taxi Driver is great.
In my case they debited my card straight away, next payment isn't until late April. I subscribed mostly for WM, undecided as to whether I'll keep it.
ReplyDeleteI love the Running Man. Guilty pleasure of mine when I have nothing to do, but 1980s Arnold movies are kind of go to for that if I am bored.
ReplyDeleteFor me, they didn't charge anything since I was only 2 days into my free trial, but I have to imagine that they would refund the pro-rated amount that wasn't used, or else that would be really shady on their part.
ReplyDelete"really shady on their part"
ReplyDelete"I'm faking my address location, hope they don't find out"
uh...=)
Hey, if I am paying them for a service, if they don't provide that service, why should they get compensated for it?
ReplyDelete(There is nothing to stop someone signing up on the day, cancelling the following day and never paying WWE a penny.)
ReplyDeleteBasic human decency?
I think if you sign up in the UK it adds a payment of 9.99 but to be taken a month after the sub starts as opposed to at the beginning.
ReplyDeleteWhen the UK one began I just cancelled unblockus but continued with my US subscription, so I pay $9.99 through paypal, which works out around £6.
ReplyDeleteI reckon any UK user could do the same, so should save you a few pounds a month.
realistically they could easily cover themselves putting a "if you fake your address and end up paying for service after being banned it's your fault" into the terms and service agreement
ReplyDeleteSure, and that would be completely fair, but just giving a quick skim through their terms of services, it appears like they do offer a credit or adjustment if the service is canceled half way through a billing cycle.
ReplyDeleteTJ: I never could stand Mongo McMichael. But re-watching WCW Nitro/Clashes/PPV I'vr suddenly come to appreciate his style and feel like he really DID fit in the Horsemen. And could talk as a heel. Huh.
ReplyDeleteBecause you are paying for a service they don't offer in your area. It's not their fault you chose to do so, it's not their fault you suffer as a result.
ReplyDeleteAs Flair said, dude had the look. He wasn't bad in ring either. And really, after Sid and Roma it wasn't like the Horsemen was a symbol of in-ring quality.
ReplyDeleteI'd imagine this is an EU ruling thing. EU law mentions something about being allowed a refund of any purchase within 30 days, no questions asked. By moving the payment date to the end of the month, you get your 30 day refund window without the hassle of actually returning money.
ReplyDeleteHe worked best in tag team situations. And he sold pretty well..!
ReplyDeleteMy plan is to subscribe sat or sun so I can get mania and extreme rules for one payment. If they convince me to stick around after that, so be it.
ReplyDeleteRead the terms and services. I only skimmed at work on a small iPhone screen, but there didn't seem to be any "sucks for you to be canadian, thanks for the 20 bucks" clause.
ReplyDeleteMongo never should have been a "Horseman", but he was decent enough on his own. He gets too much flak when the real issue was his booking.
ReplyDeleteWait a second, that sounds familiar...
The issue is the Horsemen was traditionally a group for guys who could work. Mongo wouldn't have even been the best worker on a backyard wrestling show back then. He was ugly as sin too.
ReplyDeleteAlright, in which case a refund should coming
ReplyDeleteSid didn't need to be a great worker.
ReplyDeleteHow did they find out?
ReplyDeleteI agree. Netflix is a great service and well worth it
ReplyDeleteTried that show yesterday. Hated it
ReplyDeleteThere were several horsemen that couldn't 'work'.
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a good place to mention this...
ReplyDeleteI'm a network subscriber in Canada, and for a while I was able to access all the content on the Android app, without changing my DNS, but this morning I can only access what's on the live schedule.
Just a heads up. Don't know if this isolated to my area, or Android, or a recent update to the app.
I think the Horsemen of that era, the nWo era, just didn't work and that hurt Mongo, Benoit and Malenko as it should have been a vehicle to elevate them. They were elevated compared to where they were previously but it was still kinda meh.
ReplyDeleteThey should have been the foils to the nWo and Sting's back-up (until they eventually turned on him like they always do) but they just kept on getting the crap kicked out of them/spray-painted on a weekly basis by Hogan and his buddies.
Oh crap... Never mind. They just changed a bit of the functionality. I found the archival stuff. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteWWE and "basic human decency" don't belong in the same sentence
ReplyDeleteSid disagreed with you.
ReplyDeleteSid has been discussed quite a bit here. He had a certain charisma and presence that was just unique and he at least brought that to the Horsemen. Mongo was ugly, had no presence, couldn't work, he was just along for the ride because he played in the NFL.
ReplyDeleteOutside of Sid who I discussed above I would love some examples.
ReplyDeleteOff the top of my head: luger Roma ole.
ReplyDeleteI thought Roma was at least competent in a tag team setting. Luger has had plenty of good matches throughout his career and had a fantastic look and charisma. I'll give you Ole.
ReplyDeleteI thought the way Mongo steadily improved as a worker in 96-97 was pretty amazing, actually.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I wasn't sure if lying about your location like that reached the level of "fraud" where they could sue you or something.
ReplyDeleteI've been using that same strategy. I reactivated the day of the Rumble to get both that and Fast Lane.
ReplyDeleteThe 30 day windows will kinda hurt them in the long run if more people figure this out since you could realistically get all the PPVs for $60-70 depending on how they are timed out.
I don't think that hurts them really since you are still giving them money. I think people like me that stopped subscribing and never go back will hurt them more. At least you're giving them something.
ReplyDeleteI thought Roma would have been fine as a heel and part if the tag team if the group. But a low card tag wrestler jumping to main event face stable was a stretch.
ReplyDeleteYeah. I wonder how they view that. I could see them thinking there losing money but I could also see them thinking that those less popular ppvs probably don't get a lot of viewers anyways. Might be a thing where they're just happy to have eyeballs on the product, hope it leads to future interest.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Mike Graham, every idea Bischoff had to turn around the company in 1993/4 was his first.
ReplyDeleteI can't get annoyed about Mike Graham as he seemed to suffer an inferiority complex his whole life and was always looking for acceptance/approval, right to his tragic end.
ReplyDeleteThe guy claimed a thousand ideas and never drew a dime.
ReplyDeleteI'm seeing that unfold before my very eyes.
ReplyDeleteHis acting is pretty decent aswell, and he's not a bad talker, in the vein of Tully but of course nowhere near as good as HIM. But still.
During early NWO they got some decent exposure though. And Flair seems extra happy to perform. Probably promised some come-uppance against Hogan thar never materialised.
ReplyDeleteDude, spoiler alert!
ReplyDeleteI still hold him leagues above Roma and Jarrett as a Horseman.
ReplyDeleteNow if 1995 Roma had been part of the Horsemen... Different story.
Agreed on Luger. Don't get the overall hate for him. Yes, he had lazy periods, but when he was on he was ON.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure, some kind of witchcraft I assume.
ReplyDeleteReally? Did you like 30 Rock?
ReplyDeleteWhy would I show basic human decency to a soulless company that is yet to properly explain to its talent how payouts are going to work on a network that has been around for almost a year now?
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with different tastes. I actually prefer it, you get to try new things and might develop a taste for.something new. I think that's the only way I discover new things these days.
ReplyDeleteI used to be big into acquiring content, but quality was always an issue. I'm impressed that that issue has been overcome.
ReplyDeleteAmazon Prime has great quality HD streaming. Selection is about 7/10
$8? Easy. $20 bucks...well, depends on the month.
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn't feel guilty...the movie had two goals and two goals only: make money and entertain. And it hit a home run on both counts. Titanic is a guilty pleasure (not mine, but...) Running Man is just awesome.
ReplyDeleteDunno if you're into horror but I've watched Pontypool about 4 times now and am dedicated to.pimping the movie.
So judging by this self-righteous spiel, you'd pay 9.99 without question every month if they did sort that out? Or is this 'I take offense to it, but I want it for free anyway' internet logic?
ReplyDeleteI was referring to people who bogart the network for free using loopholes, but human decency doesn't apply to those losers either.
ReplyDeleteYes, this exchange is the most useless thing in the history of the internet.
ReplyDeleteThe new design doesn't allow you to go to anything, but schedule and the live stream, but if you click on Network it goes back to the old way. Makes no sense.
ReplyDeleteBelee dat!
ReplyDeleteYeah. It's kinda crappy.
ReplyDeleteYou can get 1080 no problem.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's also free, which is a big issue for me.
Where did I ever say I wanted it for free? I don't subscribe. I don't use a VPN to cheat the system.
ReplyDeleteMy points:
You're trying to apply standards of human decency to a bureaucracy that itself has no such conception of the idea. Human decency doesn't enter into this equation for two reasons. (1) It's a financial transaction in which the seller has potentially created a loophole screwing itself out of money. As a consumer, I'm not inclined or obligated (legally, but especially morally) to feel any remorse for the seller. Especially because... (2) This entire scenario was created because the seller structured the payments, and subscriptions more generally, in a way that in intended to be ambiguous. The seller is intentionally using the ambiguity that comes from this creative accounting to screw over its talent and possibly even misrepresent subscriptions to investors (i.e. offering a free month before the Rumble because they knew there would be cancellations, and then reporting on subscriptions before those cancellations would have actually taken effect).
So, again, why should I feel basic human decency for a company that shows none itself for its workers, its investors, and even frequently its own customers?
Okay, say they do start paying talent fairly based on the network. In that event, you'd use it right? Given you're clearly a humanist and want the talent to be paid fair. Or would you in that case go 'eh' and still not use it, but say the WWE is unfair for not paying their talent properly?
ReplyDelete
