There has been a lot of talk on the blog in the last day or two about the worst WrestleMania. If we take the opposite of that and say that WM 17 is the best (which I think would be very hard to argue against), what do you think is the second best WM? I personally think it's WM 19. What say you?
Daring choice with 19! I'd go with 20 myself but I can see why that one would lose points now.
19 has been touted as a runner up to 17 before, and I find it hard to argue with.
ReplyDelete14 is pretty swank. Decent Cruiserweight match, solid Shamrock-Rock match (terrible finish granted), Dumpster match is chaotic fun, HHH vs Hart is great. Mero/Sable vs Goldust/Luna is ridiculously good, Kane vs Taker is watchable and Austin vs Michaels is solid.
ReplyDeleteI still think you gotta go with 3.
ReplyDelete19
ReplyDeleteI found 19 to be overrated over time. HBK/Jericho was great but I don't know about the rest. I barely remember Brock/Angle other than the Shooting Star Botch. HBK/Booker T was average and I never liked Hogan/McMahon.
ReplyDeleteI would put 23 over 19. You had a decent MITB ladder match. Batista/Undertaker and HBK/Cena were spectacular title matches. Benoit/MVP could have been right up there given a better finish. Battle of the Billionaires was a little fun as well. I thought about putting WM 21 over 19 as well but the world title matches brought it down.
10, probably. Or even 30.
ReplyDelete19 or 10.
ReplyDeleteI say 21. Cena/JBL and the women's match sucked but you also had two ***** classics with MITB and Shawn/Angle. Plus Batista was made into a star that night so there's plenty of historical significance as well.
ReplyDeleteProbably 20 or 30 for me.
ReplyDeleteIf Rey wore a different mask and the title matches were as good as the rematch later 21 would be a slam dunk #2 for me, and I already like it more than most
Wow saw this after I posted. I love 21 too but the title matches just didn't do it for me and at least one of them has to really deliver
ReplyDeleteI remember a lot of people didn't like 19 at the time because of the HHH and HBK stuff
ReplyDelete3 end of conversation
ReplyDeleteHBK - Austin never gets enough love. Shawn gave a balls out gutsy performance, one of my all time favorites.
ReplyDeleteWM 10: two ***** matches and a great ending.
ReplyDeleteWonder if he even remembers doing it? Without video assistance anyway.
ReplyDeleteYep. Few people sold Austin's punches better than Michaels.
ReplyDelete19 really has aged well. It was just so underwhelming a card at the time that I think people mostly forgot it ever happened.
ReplyDeleteI'm old school, and probably in the minority, but I'd say III, VI, and X are my favorites
ReplyDeleteGreat night of wrestling, although lacking much historical importance or Wrestlemania moments.
ReplyDeleteAs a follow up: I think that was Angle's biggest problem. He would put on the best match you'd ever seen, and you'd forget it happened 3 months later.
ReplyDelete31, of course!
ReplyDeleteRock finally beating Steve came two years too late, sadly.
ReplyDeleteThe historical significance of 21 is up there with just about any other WM. Eddies final WM, 1st and best MITB, Taker/Orton was really the first time that Takers match was about the Streak, Shawn/Angle, and then the breakthrough of Cena and Batista.
ReplyDeleteAll of that including 2 **** plus matches and 3 *** plus matches make it a fairly clear #2.
The two title matches are dogshit which really hurts the show
ReplyDeleteTrim some dead weight from 20 and its up there. I think 19, 21, 23 for more modern choices, but 3 and 10 are still classics, especially for the times
ReplyDeleteCena's tepid win was very bizarre. Especially given the superb brawl that followed.
ReplyDeleteYes. I really wish he had truly been The Guy, rather than just the guy who has the best match and gets the occasional title reign.
ReplyDeleteSplit titles really made for underwhelming cards a lot of years
ReplyDeleteCut the two tag title matches, the Cruiserweight Invitational and probably the women's tag, and it's a classic show. You can have a tag title match just have Booker and RVD against WGTT in a cross brand match.
ReplyDeleteMemory lapse. Had Cena not debuted at the time of WM19? I wasn't really watching at the time, so 2003 doesn't follow any real chronological order for me.
ReplyDeleteJune 2002
ReplyDeleteHHH/Batista delivered...Lemmy forgetting the words to "I Am the Game".
ReplyDeletePlus, Big Show/Akebono Sumo match. No thanks. Up until and including Shawn/Angle, 21 is great.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I thought. So he just wasn't a thing yet at that point? And has it really only been 12 years? Jeez.
ReplyDelete24 is pretty great show up and down the card. Only real stinker I think is Batista/Umaga.
ReplyDeleteHe was gonna do a rap battle with Fabulous
ReplyDeleteHis victory over Big Show for the US title the year before was better.
ReplyDeleteWow. Thank God for small favors.
ReplyDeleteWM XX goes waaaaayyyyyy too long
ReplyDeleteIII, X, XIV and XIX are on the list
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the legendary sumo match
ReplyDeleteYeah, plus it has some weak shit on the undercard. Chop an hour off that show and it's easily a Top 5.
ReplyDeleteMy vote, depending on my mood, would be a battle between III, VII, XIX, and the criminally underrated XXVI. WrestleMania VI, X and XXIV are right behind.
Check my redone 20 card below.
ReplyDeleteI understand the whole "cram everyone into the card for a payday" mentality, but it really dilutes the show for me.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people are saying 20. I just can't get behind a WrestleMania that ends with an eight minute Undertaker vs. Kane match
ReplyDeleteI see what you did there...
ReplyDelete23 needs to be discussed more.
ReplyDeleteWhatever your opinion on the overall show is, WrestleMania XXX had the greatest opening hour ever. End of discussion.
ReplyDelete17, 10, 19 - Sure I can live with that.
ReplyDeleteWe now need to rank WM21-WM30 because beyond the Undertaker matches on most of them very little else stands out. Though I guess the MITB matches helped those shows a lot too.
It does. Other than Kane/Khali and the RAW 8 man tag that was done better later on tv, 23 is pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteUndertaker/Batista at ***1/2 and the main event at ****1/4, but the rest of the card was a lot weaker. MITB wasn't very good compared to 21 or even 22.
ReplyDeleteKane/Khali's excusable because while they were important enough to each brands stories, they were smart enough to put them with each other so they don't taint anything else.
ReplyDeleteWrestleMania 30 for me. It was the best story they had done in more than a decade, fueled by real-life animosity towards WWE, with a satisfying pay-off; an awesome HHH-Bryan match; the mother of all shockers (The Streak ending); and a fun squash.
ReplyDeleteTaker vs Batista really was a 4 star match I think.
ReplyDeleteRanking the last 10 Manias I'd go
ReplyDelete24
30
21
23
22
20
26
25
27
29. 29 is last only because I haven't seen it outside of Punk/Taker.
XXX, XXIV, XXVI, 21, 23, XXVIII, 22, XXV, XXIX, XXVII.
ReplyDelete**** out of spiteful pride on both men's parts. "You're putting US in the midcard? Well, fuck you!"
ReplyDeleteTrue but that Batista entrance was fucking awesome.
ReplyDeleteLashley/Umaga had big match feel. MitB gave us an all time Jeff spot. Even the ECW match had a cool moment with the entrance.
ReplyDeleteI think XXX is my second favorite. That ending was just so incredible. A five star match to start the show and an awesome triple threat to end it; just absolutely incredible.
ReplyDeleteThat match was the only thing I gave a flying fuck about.
ReplyDelete24, 30, 23, 26, 21, 28, 22, 25, 27, 29
ReplyDeleteAnd a legit shit your pants moment when the streak was snapped.
ReplyDeletePerfect because the crowd didn't boo. They couldn't boo due to being so stunned lol
ReplyDeleteWrestleMania XXVI deserves some love. Three **** matches and several *** matches plus a hot crowd and several epic showdowns, plus Hart/McMahon is worth a look for historical purposes.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the rest of 29 you'll probably only move it up one spot. Bland and criminally predictable.
ReplyDeleteAnd even though it was botched, the powerbomb on Umaga was pretty offensive.
ReplyDeleteI think that HHH-Bryan match isn't as good as most say. It's awesome, ****, but HHH looks gassed relatively early. Not an all time classic wrestling contest.
ReplyDeleteBut, with a pimp set Lol
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch it live, so I knew Taker lost. I was still completely stunned when it happened.
ReplyDeleteFunny, I just watched 20 last weekend and then read your review over at 411-for some reason I couldn't find one here.
ReplyDeleteScott, you sort of sounded ambivalent to the show, mostly because of it's length and bunch of filler matches sandwiched in between some great ones and whatever you want to call the Brock/Goldberg thing.
I think overall 19 has better quality matches throughout.
The only thing that elevated that match to classic status was the story behind it and a JACKED crowd.
ReplyDeleteI really wish the Network actually worked for I because I would totally give it a looksie. 22-29 are shows I never watched as a whole just saw the praised matches on youtube or something at the time.
ReplyDeleteThe tiger suplex gives it an extra 1/2* to me.
ReplyDeleteWish Austin could have got to Vince sooner and had the Silverdome lol sing along with him to Jambalya.
ReplyDelete3 > 17 all day.
ReplyDeleteIt's close, but I may have to agree.
ReplyDeleteBigger Badder Better. THREE
ReplyDeleteOh yeah. Totally blocked that bullshit from my mind. At least it wasn't terribly offensive just out of place.
ReplyDeleteWhich there's a lot to say for, but I guess I expect more from the full monty.
ReplyDeleteLike, you're maxing the scale--no other match is registerably better than this. That needs to be one hell of a match.
Hogan/Andre for historical, Savage/Steamboat with the first all time classic match, a horn opening tag, a good 6 man tag, hot crowd at the peak of the business and one of my favorite moments is Piper soaking in the cheers before his match with Adonis started (if only he has stayed retired). My favorite announce duo. 3 may be my favorite of all time.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason to look at McMahon-Hart is if you enjoy dumpster fires.
ReplyDeleteI really couldn't believe it when the streak ended. I was checking twitter, not paying attention to the boring ass match. I looked up, Brock hit the F5 and got the pin and I probably looked just like the black dude with glasses from the crowd.
ReplyDeleteThe announcers not calling it was infuriating and represented everything I hate about the current product.
ReplyDeleteI like 19 the most and but 17 as a close 2nd.
ReplyDeleteWrestlemanias 23-29 are all meaningless imo.
ReplyDeleteCole probably doesn't know what a tiger suplex is.
ReplyDeleteThere needs to be a Sagat character in wrestling, just so someone can call "TIGER UPPERCUT" like in the games.
ReplyDelete3 is more important historically. However, 17 simply blows 3 away in terms of overall match quality. Its not even close. (macho-Steamboat of course being the exception)
ReplyDeleteValid point. I need to find the original dvd release of 17 with My Way intact. I have the Wrestlemania 1-21 box set, and while it doesn't affect my enjoyment of 17, the overdub of "Adrenaline Rush" is certainly off putting.
ReplyDeleteI seem to be the only one, but I actually thought Lesnar-HHH at WM was pretty good, and easily the best of their underwhelming trilogy.
ReplyDeleteWM 14 was also a great tape to show more casual fans/friends to get them to think wrestling was cool.
ReplyDeleteI remember being hugely excited going into WM 19. Jericho- HBK and Angle - Lesnar were both huge dream matches for me, and this was the first time for both (forget the stupid match on Smackdown between Lesnar and Angle beforehand, that didn't count). And of course the card had Rock-Austin again, so I don't see how this card was "underwhelming."
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Rock/Austin III. I think from sheer "marquee" appeal it's hard to top 19, though I don't know if I agree that it's better than 20 or 30.
ReplyDeleteYep. We all just went dead silent. I don't think anyone was quite sure what had just happened.
ReplyDeleteI assume this has to do with people knowing that those two would have been able to do an even better match if Michaels had been 100%.
ReplyDeleteAnd Hogan/McMahon. None of us at the time probably thought it would be good, but it'd at least be entertaining. Ended up delivering more than I expected.
ReplyDeleteProbably. Look at their KOTR 97 match for comparison.
ReplyDeletePersonal circumstances I suppose. I wasn't really watching at that time and had already seen rock v Austin about 90 times. So nothing jumped out to me as a 'buy this show' match.
ReplyDeleteFunny, I would've said "17 and 3 are clearly the two best ones, so let's debate which is third." Wrestlemania III is so vastly important from a historical standpoint, and while it might not have the wall-to-wall great matches as a few other shows, everything is booked sharply and satisfyingly. On paper WM3 has the same cavalcade of midcard bouts as WM4/5/6 but 3's matches flow much better and there are no dead spots. Also, WM3's value as "the first REAL Wrestlemania" can't be understated.
ReplyDeleteBesides those top two shows, I would say the next-best Manias were 30 and 19, with 24/10/20 just a step behind (20 could also be busted down for anti-historical reasons due to the Benoit ending and the fact that there's also a ton of filler on that card).
If Lesnar hits the SSP, Rey Mysterio/Matt Hardy got five more minutes and Booker T goes over HHH, I think we'd all have WM19 as a unanimous top-tier Wrestlemania.
The thing about X for me is that it's very much a two match show- though granted holy crap those two matches- with two crummy Yoko matches clogging up the card. What's the third best match there, Savage/Crush?
ReplyDeleteThen you look at, say, 20, which has the Triple Threat, Angle/Eddie, Rock n Sock/Evolution, Christian/Jericho, and a fun little cruiserweight segment. I have to go with the show that only had one ***** but three more **** matches (IMO) over two *****s and a bunch of crap.
III also benefited from not being in a dive like IV and V.
ReplyDeleteThey're the warmest of dumpster related exhibitions.
ReplyDeletePlus, 20 had a great HOF class, and I and others wish they would do the HOF again like they did in '04.
ReplyDelete23, 24, 26 and 28 all felt like they meant something.
ReplyDeleteFor me Angle Lesnar - and HBK - Jericho were this PPV's selling points. Yes, Rock vs Austin had been done to death by this time, but I saw it more as an extra, than a main selling point.
ReplyDeleteLike I said. Personal circumstances. Not saying you're wrong, that's just how I saw it.
ReplyDeleteIf Lesnar hits the SSP, Rey Mysterio/Matt Hardy got five more minutes
ReplyDeleteand Booker T goes over HHH, I think we're all arguing between WM19 and WM17 as the very best ever.
I didn't mind so much Hunter going over, so long as it didn't rely on the "your kind" aspect to the build. Just build it based on Booker's 5X WCW champion accomplishment, take Hunter to the limit, and have HHH hit a Pedigree after Booker makes a mistake (and not take until yesterday to pin him). Or, hit the Pedigree after interference/ref distraction from Flair.
ReplyDeleteTriple H hits a pedigree waits 40 seconds then decides to cover Booker T. I fucking hate how they treated Booker T and just killed his momentum instantly for no bigger reason than backing down to Triple H's ego.
ReplyDeleteThere was no downside to Booker T winning and instead we got a giant "fuck you" from Triple H.
Well, that and it was a technically tremendous match. It was probably the best pure wrestling match of HHH's career, and one of the best of Bryan's WWE career at the very least.
ReplyDeleteMentioning Booker T's past is only something they could have done once and they wasted it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, 25, 27, and 29 all felt like they were phoned in.
ReplyDeleteI'm along those lines too
ReplyDeleteEspecially 29 with its "Oh shit. We forget to get an opponent for Taker this year. Let's boom a fatal four way and have Punk win it, then Punk go and build us a reason to care, somehow".
ReplyDeleteThat was my favorite MITB match.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget about the botched pyro that burnt a few fans.
ReplyDeleteHe ended up have a rap battle with a cardboard cut out of him at Mania 19.
ReplyDeleteKennedy's greatest contribution to wrestling, hitting the Green Bay Plunge/Lambeau Leap on Hornswoggle from the ladder. Which now that I think of it, was likely a nod to Bundy squashing a midget 30 years prior.
ReplyDeleteI remember WM 21.
ReplyDeleteThat could have all been solved with another one of his "I am God" promos, followed by Taker's gong.
ReplyDeleteHowl for WCW:
ReplyDeleteI saw the best wrestlers of my generation destroyed by madness,
shooting, Russoified, Hogan-ed,
dragging themselves through the TBS shows at night
looking for a single pin,
blondeheaded Canadians burning for the ancient heavenly connection to some common sense in the storylines of Bischoff...
What's the consensus of Edge/Jericho at WM 26? I found it to be somewhat boring.
ReplyDeleteBest in the World. No one can beat me. Champ for 400+ days, I'll just take Wrestlemania off. And then, the gong.
ReplyDeleteOthers have said and I agree, it should have been Punk's title reign vs the Streak. Rock/Cena really didn't need the belt. Just have Cena cut a promo about how he made an error at last year's show and he has to know he can beat the Rock.
Didn't they go home early? Just as the crowd was starting to come around.
ReplyDeleteThose were the actual words to The Game. Lemmy can do no wrong. He beat God in a wrestling match.
ReplyDeleteI love how he was told to cut back on his drinking, so he switched from Jack Daniels to vodka because vodka is made from potatoes and potatoes are good for you lol I hope Lemmy never dies.
ReplyDeleteSeems like they did.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite Lemmy stories is on his dvd. Can't remember who it was, or what band he was from but, him and a band mate are backstage hanging out with Lemmy and Lemmy asks if they wanna drink some Jack. They figure drinking with Lemmy, how can you say no? Lemmy cracks open a 40 of Jack and the guy takes a drink, passes it to his buddy who takes a drink and as they're getting ready to hand it back to Lemmy, he's opening two more 40's
ReplyDelete"He drinks Jack Daniels like it's a fucking beer!"
The historical purpose of what not to do?
ReplyDeleteI thought MITB at 23 was far better than 22. Kennedy killing Hornswoggle, Hardy killing Edge and himself, Matt Hardy fucking with everyone...
ReplyDeleteHaving read Bayless' recaps leading up to it, III is *by far* the best built WM ever.
ReplyDeleteThat documentary is awesome. I love that when they're on tour, Lemmy basically just lives in some crappy apartment in LA, goes to record stores, drinks whiskey and plays naked Photo Hunt at a bar all day. That's the kind of old man I aspire to be.
ReplyDeleteThat's an example of two guys not quite clicking but being skilled enough to put together a Perfectly Acceptable match and not let it fall apart. Jericho has gone on record as saying that one missed the mark and he had high hopes for it.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how much his Nazi memorabilia collection in his apartment is worth.
ReplyDeleteProbably a bunch. I'm black and Lemmy can collect all the Nazi shit he wants. As far as I can tell, he's pretty cool racially (tm Big Lebowski).
ReplyDeleteHe's mentioned a bunch of times that he'd be a lousy Nazi cause he has or has had a black girlfriend.
ReplyDeleteYep, that was in his documentary. Have you ever seen them in concert? I've been to two Motorhead concerts. Ridiculously awesome. When they say they're the loudest band in the world, they aren't kidding. I literally couldn't hear shit for like two days after seeing them.
ReplyDeleteNo and it pisses me off that I had to fly to Toronto the day before Motorhead and Megadeth played a double bill together, here in Calgary.
ReplyDeleteWrestlemania 3 is the best. Best undercard for the time, best match, and best main event. It was the first major dome show for Mania - and maybe it was because I watched it thousands of times in 1987 alone - but it just had the right feel. I mean they made me care about Billy Jerk and Hercules.
ReplyDeleteWrestlemania 17 was the end of the attitude era. It a super show feel prior to the "dream match" era of 18 and 19. I know it wasn't intended, but the whole Austin/McMahon handshake really reeked of "we did it." In terms of being the only wrestling biz in town.
Wrestlemania 18 has a special place for me due to Hogan vs. Rock. But nothing else from that era, outside of the hardcore comedy, really did anything. The "Triple H era" didn't do much for me. I didn't need to see Triple H feud with his then staged wife and her Midcard paper champion. And while Jogan vs. Tock is still special, it doesn't make Wrestlemania 18 great.
Good point on the handshake.
ReplyDeleteOh man, you gotta make a point to see them when they tour next. I don't know how long Lemmy has left so go if you can. Sometimes you just gotta say fuck it and see good music. Faith No More is my favorite band and I pretty much did that. The closest place they're touring to me is in Philly. 5 hour drive for me but fuck it, I'm going. If you can afford it, do it.
ReplyDeleteI think it's 30 over 19 due to the Booker/HHH finish.
ReplyDeleteThe only bad match at 30 was cancelled out due to the historic ending, great matches by Bryan to bookend the card, very satisfying ending, the amazing promo to start, and everything else was good (and easily the best preshow match in Mania history).
24 has gotten better with age in my mind. The Flair/HBK match totally holds up (maybe even better now than when it occurred due to the storytelling), and production-wise, it may be the best.
If the first 90 minutes of 28 weren't so boring/insulting (18 seconds), that could contend as the top 3 matches delivered in a major way.
27 and 29 were the only duds since 15, to me. The satisfying main event is the only thing that keeps 15 from being the worst (which I believe to be 9).
Its so awesome because Taker's first appearance stunned the crowd into silence and breaking the streak did it again.
ReplyDelete10 is my personal favorite
ReplyDeleteI know it's a typo, and I'm just busting your balls but, Jogan vs Tock sounds intriguing. Is it Tick Tock from Return to Oz?
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to get out to see Rush and ACDC this summer. FNM would be awesome.
ReplyDelete11 is the worst for me. Just seems like an extended Raw rather than OMG WRESTLEMANIA!
ReplyDelete19 is alright, but how can you put it ahead of 3 or 10?
ReplyDeleteI need a time machine. Watched Bad Brains perform at CBGB over Christmas 1982 and realized I grew up in the wrong era.
ReplyDelete10 is overrated. One very good match and one great one, but the rest of the show is awful.
ReplyDeleteHow can you call a show with Drunk Burt Reynolds awful? Lol
ReplyDeleteIs their any other kind of Burt Reynolds?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Burt Reynolds, I never watched Evening Shade in the 90's? Is it any good? I never watched Coach either, and I feel both shows were probably good, I just never got to experience them.
ReplyDeleteClean shaven Deliverance Burt Reynolds is like clean shaven Chuck Norris. Same man, but totally not the same as well.
ReplyDeleteSo has just about every on since. No wrestling show needs to be 4 hours long.
ReplyDeleteIt's at the point where it very much feels like 2004 TNA with weekly PPV's rather than a television show
ReplyDeleteI mean, he was super over as a heel. Like, the fanbase gave a crap about him a week before he won the title, is my point.
ReplyDelete19 is a great card. Eras ending, starting, reviving, and intersecting.
ReplyDeleteI call this a 'spoiler alert' only because there may be a Doomer living under a rock in Djibouti without foreknowledge of the WWE's plans...
ReplyDeleteSpoiler Alert: According to backstage sources, Roman Reigns, John Cena, Sting and the Undertaker will win at WrestleMania.
I sent Scott the question and I can definitely see why people with go with either 3 or 10. I have made my own rankings of each WrestleMania (expect for 30 which I will rank after I watch it a second time to get a better view of it) and in fact I have currently have 10 ranked 3rd and 3 ranked 8th. The way I rank them is by taking the number matches I feel are essential viewing, the total of my star rankings and the average star rating of each match. If I match up two shows that are close in those numbers I usually rank the one with the most 4 star plus matches higher. I take 19 over 10 because I think it's an overall better show.
ReplyDeleteThat's not his name...
ReplyDeleteLuger-Yoko is meh (they had a better match at Summerslam). But the main event is a good one, with a lot of action, all things considered, and a popular guest referee. It also built off of events from the previous year. Savage-Crush was a fun brawl, the tag match was decent too. Add to that two of the best matches anyone in the company ever had and I think you have one of the great WrestleManias.
ReplyDeleteReigns I don't care about, Cena I'm cool with if the plan is to build the US title up (HA!), Sting I figured and don't mind, why have him job in his first, and maybe? only match. I don't agree with Taker winning though.
ReplyDeleteThat too!
ReplyDeleteWell, depends whether or not you count the Platinum Lounge sketch, which clearly builds on it. But technically true.
ReplyDeleteAll joking about Reigns etc. aside, there's something more serious here.
ReplyDeleteJust look at all the talent that WWE has under contract. Now think what you could do for a supercard with that. And then look at what we're ACTUALLY going to get at WrestleMania.
The main event of Bret/Yoko is pretty much all punches... that one is about the moment more than the match.
ReplyDeleteNow, at WM9... Bret got a pretty damn good match out of Yoko.
I know there's better episodes than 'Smile Time', but it's my favourite episode. I love that puppet!
ReplyDeleteI keep waiting for the fans in a smark city to block the aisle so he cant vet through during his entrance. I mean what would he do? Push through and risk getting WWE sued by hurting someone? He'd just have to turn around like a chode. Itd be hilarious.
ReplyDeleteArrived home from Florida this morning and already bored. Rainy, cloudy, boring weather. Anyways, any good NJPW shows worth watching as of late?
ReplyDeleteI agree. The 9 match is better. 10 is only memorable for Yoko slipping of the rope and Piper walloping Cornette.
ReplyDeleteIt makes my head hurt to think that the Undertaker's streak was thrown away for the sake of Roman Reigns.
ReplyDeleteSecurity would probably get rid of the fans.
ReplyDeleteWM 1: Fun card, but not much else.
ReplyDeleteWM 2: I do like Susan Saint James and her "uh-oh's." Savage vs. Animal is underrated, and I love Hogan's power slam on Bundy.
WM 3: Best supercard of the era.
WM 4: Tried to be special, but it wasn't.
WM 5: Hogan vs. Savage
WM 6: Hogan vs. Warrior, and Andre's face turn. And at least Piper vs. Brown had an epic feel - but probably for all the wrong reasons.
WM 7: Surprisingly solid. Savage/Warrior and Main Event.
WM 8: Had the WM 3 feel, in spite of being smaller. Piper/Hart, Flair/Savage and even Hogan/Sid were memorable.
WM 9: Outdoors is always a great fit for a wrestling event. But in hindsight, I'm not much on Hogan's last minute victory anymore. Nice to see the heel Razor getting face pops. Tatanka has a great match with Shawn.
WM 10: Owen vs. Bret and Razor vs. Shawn. Oh and Alundra Blaze wrestles. Oh and Lex Liger introduces his new theme music.
WM 11: Bret/Bob, Diesel/Shawn and Mongo.
WM 12: Backlot brawl, Stone Cold with the look but no heat, Diesel/Taker and yeah Bret/Shawn.
WM 13: Bret/Austin and Sid/Taker and what is a Chicago street fight?
WM 14: Sable's powerbomb, Taker/Kane and Austin/HBK
WM 15 Rock/Austin and Butterbean/Gunn
WM 2000: Just a big letdown. The forerunner of the Triple H era. Was Angle/Beniot/Jericho on this show? I mean nothing memorable.
WM 17: Austin/Rock and Triple H/Taker and Angle/Beniot.
WM 18: Rock/Hogan. Maybe Nash/Austin could have been something, but Hall/Austin was a train wreck.
WM 19: HBK/Jericho, Austin/Rock, Brock/Angle, and Hogan/McMahon.
WM 20: Solid new era show, like WM 10 was - sadly, almost all the victors were dead by WM 25. Jericho/Christian was a decent Midcard feud and it brought back the Jericho I liked. The babyface Jericho. And Cena was still super over as a Midcard face.
WM 21: Hogan returns, Batista wins. Big Show wrestles a Sumo wrestler.
WM 22: This is where it gets all swimmy. Was this the year of the @@@@ you Cena chants in his match with Triple H?
WM 23: Kane slams Khali.
WM 24: Flair is put out of the WWE pasture.
WM 25: Tsker/Shawn
WM 26: Taker/Shawn
WM 27: Didn't watch.
WM 28: Watched highlights of Cena/Rock
WM 29: Didn't watch
WM 30: Saw the highlights of Hogan's return.
3, 2, 5, 1, 4, 7, 6 for me. Faith bumps S3 to the top. I hated nearly all of S6, even though it had two of my favourite episodes in it, the rest was pretty bad.
ReplyDeleteFigures, figures, doesn't bother me, and really??
ReplyDeleteI don't care for 23 myself, but I do agree with you about 21
ReplyDeleteYou never heard of The Tock? If you smell what the Tock is cooking?
ReplyDeleteThis was expected. So I guess BNB really is going to be the only heel winning at Mania.
ReplyDeleteYou and I have talked about how Taker/Bray should end if the Streak were intact. Such a waste.
ReplyDeleteYou think Barrett is winning? Because while I think he needs to win, it may sour the crowd and risk some backlash.
ReplyDeleteYou really think HHH is going to put over the legacy of WCW and the one notch that isn't on his wall? Ok, sure.
ReplyDeleteI think Stephanie should go over in all of these matches. Send the crowd home with "smiles on their faces"
ReplyDeleteIt should've been for another former Shield member: Dean Ambrose.
ReplyDeleteSteph hitting Taker with with the Tombstone and doing his pin just made me LOL.
ReplyDeleteI saw AC/DC in 2003. Awesome show.
ReplyDeleteDo people really want to see Daniel Bryan win the IC championship?
ReplyDeleteHoly shit, CBGB in 82? I bow to you my friend.
ReplyDeleteI had to edit my comment. You may wanna reread it lol
ReplyDeleteEven more so if you go Survivor Series 91-92 as your beginning and end. Undertaker as a good guy. Perfect as a good guy. The arrival of Razor Ramon. Bret as world champ. The Rockers broken up and Shawn as a heel IC champ. No Hogan.
ReplyDeleteHaha, just re-read it. At least you have good taste!
ReplyDeleteI know it won't get a lot of love but I would go with Wrestlemania 8. Good opener, great IC title match, super hot title match, great location, tremendous commentary, and probably one of the most explosive endings. I know the last few matches are kind of so so, but I think the rest makes up for it. Also really a historical event as it really kind is the end of the 80s Hogan steroid era as talent began to leave after that.
ReplyDeleteSource?
ReplyDeleteDude, HR in his prime. Few if any could touch him. Today...not so much.
ReplyDeleteOwen with Skinner's tobacco spit in his eye, thinking "Ahh well, it couldn't possibly get worse than this...".
ReplyDeleteWrestlemania 3 8th? What?
ReplyDeleteA buddy of mine is about 50 now and he was a teenager in NY in the late 70's/early 80's. I envy the bands he got to see. He tells me about how he used to just go see The Ramones and other random bands like it was nothing. Like they were just some random band that he and his friends would go see when they were bored when they were in 11th grade.
ReplyDeleteBarrett will be over with the mostly smark fans, so I think the fans will be okay with it.
ReplyDeleteCageside Seats had a piece on it.
