The Streak is over so what really is the point of Undertaker at Wrestlemania anymore? I get a match with Sting would have been something as far as icon vs. icon but with Bray? It seems like just another match. Is Taker just gonna job out at Wrestlemania now once a year to give an imaginary rub to guys who could have used it by actually BEATING THE STREAK? And if he beats Bray so what? Its not like it's the start of another streak and Bray loses to a 50 year old guy. Nobody really wins no matter which way they go. So again what exactly is the point of this match?
To build momentum! Create separation! Move towards fulfilling their legacy at the Hall of Fame! WRESTLEMANIA SIGN!
Yeah, I got nothing either.
Girls in Cars the way it was meant to be heard!
ReplyDeleteKills me that they wasted the streak just to build up a monster that wouldn't have needed the build had they booked him as a monster in the first place who in turn will job to a guy that has been the worst booked babyface going into a Wrestlemania main event ever. Man what a waste.
ReplyDeleteI've posted this in a couple of other threads, but here it goes again. Beating Undertaker at a Mania still has a bit of cache, but only in two specific scenarios....
ReplyDeletea) making him submit, as I believe UT has never submitted in his entire WWE career
b) destroying him in a totally one-sided beatdown. Even last year's match was basically a 50-50 showing with Brock getting the last big move in to win.
With Lesnar leaving, I can see the WWE (and quite possibly Taker himself) wanting to salvage something from the Streak ending and booking Wyatt to beat Undertaker in dominant fashion. The idea would be that while Brock may have ended the Streak, it was Bray who ended Undertaker himself. I'm talking Taker getting Taker'd by an opponent....Bray no sells finishers, and shocks Taker with a post-Tombstone spider walk a la the zombie situp. Basically do everything possible to establish Bray as the new supernatural-based badass character in WWE.
Since I presume WM32 will be Undertaker's absolute last match, then you book that one as the old veteran looking to go out with one final Wrestlemania victory. Hell, you could even have Undertaker team with a face-turned Bray for one final bit of rub.
Unless Taker's boots stay in the ring, I don't get why they're doing this.
ReplyDeleteAwesome that Piledriver is getting re-released. Now I can finally get Rick Derringer's Demolition!
ReplyDeleteIf they insisted on breaking the streak (I personally would never have broken it) it should have been to put over a young talent. Wyatt would have been perfect, Rollins.
ReplyDeleteHe tapped to Kurt Angle.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKWJ8NpcV9k
Just being in the ring with the Undertaker is supposed to elevate you, but I don't know how true that is anymore.
ReplyDeleteBecause some of the crowd just wants to see the Undertaker at 'Mania one more (last?) time? Not every match needs cosmic significance: sometimes it's just a good wrestling match (doubtful here), sometimes it's just a compelling story (not really here with so many plot holes), and sometimes it's just someone(s) the crowd wants to see. It's not being billed as a marquee match (at best, it's 4th, and probably 5th behind the IC ladder match).
ReplyDeleteAre they just releasing it on vinyl? Would like to see it in iTunes.
ReplyDeleteTry talking to a mark about this. "But UT stuff is so COOL! I love seeing that shit!" So, booey for them I guess.
ReplyDeleteNot that it matters...during the Sting & UT matches, the crowd chants of "WE WANT _____!" for the other guy in each match are probably going to ruin both. Seriously, there are TONS of people out there who don't understand why they're not getting UT/Sting finally, despite their combined age of 430.
If I were a betting man (and I am), I would put money on next Mania being Taker's last match because it's in Texas.
ReplyDeleteWyatt is definitely going to be pushed as the main guy in the future. Working a WM in back to back years with Cena and Taker isn't too shabby.
ReplyDeleteYup, he's probably HoF bound then too. You'd think they'd go UT/Sting finally, but I hear they want it to be against Austin.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but I do like Stand Back...
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure Austin has any interest though. The guy didn't wrestle at all in his 40s, I'm not sure anything except an ungodly amount of money would make him want to wrestle in his 50s.
ReplyDeleteIf Wyatt beats him clean, it's worth it. But he won't, so it's not.
ReplyDeleteIf Harper & Rowan reunite to help him, then it is.
ReplyDeleteTo ruin Bray Wyatt again just when he was starting to recover from the counterproductive feud with Cena.
ReplyDeleteThe Wreslting Album rules alone for Land of 1,000 Dances. YOU GOT TO MOVE LIKE THE SHEIK!
ReplyDeleteIf Austin didn't come back for Punk against whom he could have had a really good match and a stellar build on the mic, is he going to come back for a crap-fest against Taker five years later? I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteBecause people love the Undertaker and he still wants to wrestle. Why are we looking for deeper reasoning from a company that has no interest in giving us any with most of their stuff?
ReplyDeleteTelling the fans they were sorry Brock went over.
ReplyDeleteWhat are they ruining? He spun his wheels after Cena with a dull feud against Jericho, "set his family free" (rather than developing any storylines for any of them), hologram and exploding TV in the never-ending gimmick feud with Ambrose. He won a few matches on TV (Ziggler and Bryan, whom the fans view in a higher position than WWE does) strictly to give him some momentum/credibility for facing 'Taker.
ReplyDeleteWyatt is a very good act, but losing here won't (and shouldn't) "kill" him by any means.
Their matches in 1998-1999-2000 were crap fests - I'm afraid what to call a match now.
ReplyDeleteMan I saw that match 800 times in the 90s, I don't need to go for 801
ReplyDeleteStop hiding, Worst_In_The_World
ReplyDeleteI think they're incredibly dumb if they bring 'Taker back only to lose again (even disregarding the potential 'Mania 32 match in Texas), but I could see it happening to set up Bray as Roman's first opponent coming out of 'Mania (and since WWE likes to have at least one significant heel win at 'Mania). Of course, they'd be "ruining" him by having him lose to Roman after all of the momentum he got by beating someone previously dismissed as a "broken down 50-year-old guy."
ReplyDeleteI think the end of WM 31 will be Hulk Hogan winning the WWF Title from John Cena.
ReplyDeleteI would rather Bray built up as a SS challenger so there is some chance he might actually win.
ReplyDeleteUncanny, I JUST watched OSW's review of the video release. Holy mother of fuckin' god was that horrible. I think everything that Mene Gene did musically was meant to be one of the plagues.
ReplyDelete431. Sting just had a birthday.
ReplyDeleteBut that young buck Lesnar needed the rub. He has to appear tough in the six or so appearances he's made since winning the belt.
ReplyDeleteIf things go really sour with Lesnar, I could see them having Bray win just to take away Brock's claim of being the 1 in 21-1.
ReplyDeleteI still don't see the point of ending the streak with Brock last year. That was like Hank Aaron's home run record; it was the longest-standing stat in wrestling that meant anything anymore, and they totally wasted it on a guy who doesn't even want to be there.
ReplyDeleteI thought he was starting to become interesting during this feud with Taker.
ReplyDeleteI don't get why people have an issue with this. This is one of the stupidest booking gripes ever.
ReplyDeleteTaker appears once a year. Wrestlemania is once a year. It's an attraction thing.
Is Bray going to be hurt by jobbing to the Undertaker at Wrestlemania? No.
Is Undertaker's 25 year career in the WWF going to be hurt by jobbing to an up and comer half his age who is over? No.
Could it have been a long con by undertaker to not go out on his back?
ReplyDeleteUpvote for your name.
ReplyDelete+ appropriate avatar
ReplyDeleteI hope Taker beats Bray with the fingerpoke of doom.
ReplyDeleteWM 29 was proof a lot of people will still buy Wrestlemania no matter how bad the build is if there's big names on the show.
ReplyDeleteHe's not over.
ReplyDeleteIs the match going to be a bore with an ancient crippled man beating a young star on the rise for no reason after not even bothering to show up to cut a promo on him? Yes.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's not an attraction anymore, the Streak is over, now it's just a curiosity to see how wobbly Taker's legs are.
I was always of the opinion that the streak shouldn't end but saying that I really didn't mind being surprised last year and the reality was 50 year old Taker should be getting squashed by the former UFC Champion basically in his wrestling prime. Plus they had a plan - Taker- Lesnar - Reigns. It just hasn't worked out well,
ReplyDeletePersonally I always thought if he had to lose the best solution was doing a rise from the ashes thing the year after - have Kane goad him and then Taker comes out and squashes him in 5 mins before they both retire or something.
I'm wondering if they go all "Mick Foley" with Bray Wyatt. Have him fight the Undertaker, lose, but look like he gave it his all. One day they might even acknowledge who he really is (Rotunda's son) and treat him like they did Mankind/Dude Love.
ReplyDeleteThe value was in the Streak. Not the Undertaker. We are seeing evidence of that right now. The e-mailer is pretty much right: there isn't much value in a guy beating the Undertaker. This is a year removed from Taker's Streak being as a big a rub as anything in the business. Now beating Undertaker is more or less worthless, 365 days later. Why? Because it was the Streak that had value, not the guy.
ReplyDeleteWe should be talking about Roman Reigns' streak now. He is 2-0 at WrestleMania.
ReplyDeleteIt's not, without the Streak. If it was, then Undertaker would have drawn outside of Wrestlemania.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm probably gonna buy these.
ReplyDeleteI think the overall arc made some level of sense: Monster ends the Streak at WM30, Monster puts over Next Big Thing at WM31. It's just that they forgot to make Reigns the Next Big Thing.
ReplyDeleteBattle of the Streaks: Reigns against Michael Cole.
ReplyDeleteReigns Superman punches Cole's head off.
That might be the only way Reigns will ever get a 100% face pop
ReplyDeleteI basically wrote this yesterday, as the whole thing makes little sense. As was pointed out, they are just doing some shit until it's time to do shit the next time. There is no such thing as building up stars or putting guys on a path. They all just float around and have meaningless matches.
ReplyDeleteWell he was fairly popular before Cena cut his legs off. They had a chance to get his stable back together at the Rumble and blew it.
ReplyDeleteDevil's advocate but they did a better than their usual job rebuilding him by feeding Ambrose's push to him and giving him lots of promo time.
He got concussed early in the last match. We have no proof this one will suck.
ReplyDeleteAlso Brock is awesome with highly physical younger guys but he is not a carry job kind of worker which is why the Reigns match looks like such a train wreck.
No, it's not stupid. The whole thing is pointless.
ReplyDeleteI noticed I said WWF.
ReplyDeleteWould that be "Sting's LAST birthday"?
ReplyDeleteI've actually been arguing for a while that the Streak has limited value because at some point you're just beating up an old man. My grandfather was a tough hombre in his 20s-30s, but someone bragging about beating him up in a fight today would have "taken care of a business" on a man in a nursing home. Not that impressive (unless my grandfather was Verne Gagne, I admit)
ReplyDeleteThe intent was there, but Reigns just didn't end up being the guy. It seems that they wanted Lesnar to carry the mantle of "guy who ended the Streak" and pass the torch to Reigns. Not a bad goal, but the execution has made it a waste. Because people just don't care about reigns on that level
ReplyDeleteI understand. Really i do but the Cena thing happened and no one believes Bray has a snowballs chance in hell of beating taker even after the streak was ended.
ReplyDeleteThe lack of taker being there to put Bray over before Wrestlemania is hurting him as well.
I would like to point out that a couple years ago there were several people on here advocating this kind of story arc. Guy #1 ends the Streak, Guy #2 starts a main event trajectory, Guy #2 beats Guy #1 to get the "rub" of beating the guy who ended the Streak. In some scenarios, Roman Reigns was even Guy #2. It just hasn't worked out because Reigns wasn't the right guy
ReplyDeleteEven the build to the only good match on the card was utter shit. The CM Punk disrespecting Paul Bearer stuff was just gross.
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to figure out how a match involving Team Hell No and The Shield, basically the two most over acts in the company at the time, got like six minutes.
They'd book it to go 46 minutes then have Cole win via a cheap pin. Reigns totally no-sells the loss the next night, squashing Rusev to get his heat back.
ReplyDeleteI think this was impressive:
ReplyDeletehttps://youtu.be/PkenYHDfpOc
Taker not being on Raw only has value if he comes back with a really radically different new look and not just a haircut or something. I don't really get the Taker/Sting not being on Raw thing either. Even Rock took time off from his schedule. What is Sting doing other than counting his money?
ReplyDelete"They'd book it to go 46 minutes then have Cole win via a cheap pin. Reigns totally no-sells the loss the next night, squashing Ziggler or DBry to get his heat back."
ReplyDeleteFTFY
Allegedly training.
ReplyDeleteThings that may have made this main event situation less shitty, while sticking with the idea that Reigns vs. Lesnar HAS to be the match.
ReplyDelete- If you have to bring Daniel Bryan back before the Rumble, do a match for the title he never lost: Brock vs. Bryan at RR'15. Lesnar beats him, Reigns wins a Bryan-less Rumble match.
- Reigns & Cena eliminating Show & Kane in a Hogan/Warrior moment, then Roman eliminating Cena to get the biggest pop possible.
- Reigns beating Big Show in a matter of minutes to get the spear & Superman punch over as Monster Killing moves. Rinse, repeat with Kane a week later.
I feel like Reigns could have at least been more over and looking stronger going into this Wrestlemania if his Rumble win and subsequent "push" had not been so lackluster. Bryan's involvement in the Rumble match guaranteed dissatisfaction with Reigns' win. Eliminating Show/Kane was groan-inducing. Booking him as anything less than Superman himself is making fans side with Lesnar going into this match. And putting him over Bryan was such an obvious trolling move that they are reaching a new level of apathy from a significant portion of the fanbase
"Move towards fulfilling their legacy at the Hall of Fame!"
ReplyDeleteWWE has a completely fake Hall of Fame, yet we hear about how this guy or that guy has to do something to "secure his legacy" or "be a future Hall of Famer" or have Triple H threaten that someone won't go in the Hall of Fame more than any other sport.
They have fake title belts too but most people on here complain about how little importance is made of them.
ReplyDeleteI remember going to the mall to buy Piledriver on cassette. Wow, I'm old....
ReplyDeleteLol
ReplyDeleteNeeds more Miz, bro?
ReplyDeleteIf somebody were instructed how to troll, would it be called, "teaching one how to Dougie?"
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm here all week.
Good counter point.
ReplyDeleteAnd it was only good once (Summerslam 98)
ReplyDeleteThe video rules!!
ReplyDeleteoutside of his entrance i'm not really looking forward to this match.. the streak was $$$ and, if brock retains, we continue to argue the value in breaking the streak. i think UT should either retire or reform the Brothers of Destruction...
ReplyDeleteGood point.
ReplyDeleteFulfilling and rich.
ReplyDeleteAnd you never get nothin' in the end!
ReplyDeleteMore Undertaker and Kane sounds awful. The only positive I have to say about Taker in 2015 is that he only works once a year. Dude was awesome at one time, but it's over. Take Kane with you.
ReplyDeleteWhat did I tell you about watching Mike and Molly while posting?
ReplyDeleteI'm not upset the match is happening, I just don't care, which is seemingly the attitude of UT because he can't be asked to show up to put over his own feud before the match.
ReplyDeleteIf Bray had gone over Cena and been on a tear for the last 12 months, this could be a really interesting "nail in the coffin" type match, where it would be believable that Wyatt might be coming to finally destroy 'Taker. As it stands, I'm just not super interested in where this can go (imo)
Illogically, Shield vs Hell No didn't even happen. Shield took on Sheamus, show and Orton while Hell No took on Ziggler and Big E.
ReplyDeleteLike a big bowl of mayo
ReplyDeleteFuck it, they should go full retard at Mania 32 and have nobody under the age of 45 competing.
ReplyDeleteIt's the passing of the creepy/supernatural torch from Taker to Bray methinks. Which means Bray wins and gets the monster push post Mania and Taker likely calls it a career after this and gets a HOF nod next year in his home state
ReplyDeleteAny other outcome would be insane.
I don't mind that he's not coming to Raw, but yeah, Bray has done nothing the past year except for have comedy matches with Dean Ambrose.
ReplyDeleteYeah, they've pretty much telegraphed Bray winning. He's only been saying, "It's time to send The Undertaker home." Taker winning makes no sense at all.
ReplyDeleteAs one of the vinyl geeks who already owns both of these, I wish there were some previously unreleased content being packaged here....unless it were a third Hillbilly Jim track, then I think I'd still pass.
ReplyDeleteEarmuffs, Beard Money.
When do we get the Bray riding a motorcycle to Limp Bizkit phase?
ReplyDeleteJesus, who let the jaded dipshits get PC control...
ReplyDeleteIt's Taker's first match in a year, shut the Hell up and stop being a smark.
Yup. Then send Bray after whoever wins the IC title and rebuild it to mean something.
ReplyDeleteThis is mah yahd, Bad News Barrett...of course, mah yah will be destroyed in the grand apocalypse...which is in mah head every single day! And the ghosts of the yahd will haunt you...but it's still mah ghost yahd...
ReplyDeleteYeah, no...let's not do that... :(
When does JR come back and try to get over Booger Red again?
ReplyDeleteThey were in separate matches? Shows how memorable that year was. Woof.
ReplyDeleteBig E/Ziggler/AJ as a HEEL team? Woof.
The whole thing feels like Taker doing a favor to HHH by putting over one his guys.
ReplyDeleteMaybe JR can come back and try to explain away this Oklahoma racist stuff
ReplyDeleteI don't think that was ever true.
ReplyDeleteI'd argue Bray would've gotten more of a rub by losing to a still undefeated Undertaker at 'mania than beating the 21-1 version.
ReplyDeletewhich unfortunately could also mean the WWE isn't doing anything like that at all.
ReplyDeleteWyatt vs Taker has MONEY written all over it. Who wouldn't want to see the son of IRS finally get revenge for having his Dad get beat at Royal Rumble 95?
ReplyDelete"Booger Red" Bray Wyatt
ReplyDeletehowever the problem at this point seems to be that if you book him more "like Superman" those that resent him because of the idea of him "being handed too much without earning it" etc. would have very likely become even more vocal with their displeasure of this.
ReplyDeletein a way, they tried the Superman routine with Cena and it didn't work in pulling those who dislike him back on his side.
he could have very well been the right guy, but the circumstances and timing were wrong.
ReplyDeleteI think what we're missing here is that Taker is boring.
ReplyDeletefor the reports are accurate they weren't sure if Undertaker would still be around for another WrestleMania, which actually seems like a very logical reason. because Undertaker retiring with the streak intact would have been a horrible decision.
ReplyDeleteYou know who had badass fucking entrance themes back then? Heels. Rick Rude, Rick Martel, Demolition, Ted Dibiase, Mr. Perfect, etc. All awesome themes, rather than the generic bad guy stuff WCW/NWA had
ReplyDeleteboth matches getting sizables "we want [other guy]" chants would be hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI've taken shits more interesting than this WrestleMania card.
ReplyDeleteHey, they had to keep Big Show strong!
ReplyDeleteI'm probably in the minority, but I get what they're going for and really like the idea.
ReplyDeleteBrock is and has been a main-eventer basically since the day he debuted, whereas Bray is a midcarder at best (one they have big plans for, but he's not there yet). That alone makes the two matches very different. On top of that, in kayfabe, Brock just wanted to prove that he could beat Taker in a match, whereas Bray is looking to outright "end" Taker and take his spot, and is positioning himself to do so by targeting Taker when he's already at his lowest point both physically and mentally. The once-proud and previously-unbeatable Taker is now a wounded animal, and Bray is going to put him out of his misery. Brock started the job, now Bray is going to finish it and take full credit.
How effective it will be or how much rub is left is yet to be seen, but I certainly see what they're aiming for.
You know what didn't need to happen? The Halloween Phantom. It's fucking Rick Rude. Just have Paul E. give him an introductory promo and bring him out to do his schtick.
ReplyDeleteu mad, bro?
ReplyDeleteIt'd be shocking if they go any other way than Taker pinning Bray. But to WWE, Bray jobbing to a part-timer is actually a huge rub.
ReplyDeleteThey tried that.
ReplyDeleteIt was called TNA.
There's a disturbing visual.
ReplyDeleteThen again, given how you turned out at the end of Dodgeball, White, I guess you've eaten your fair share of mayo.
Why you complaining? I'm sure that Bray will have dozens... no... HUNDREDS of TVs ringside just waiting to explode.
ReplyDeleteThe gif at the bottom of the linked article is awesome.
ReplyDeleteIf you look in the back you see Arnold Skaaland clapping in the background looking completely unimpressed.
Tremendous.
Teach me how to Dougie!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely 100% believe that the best thing they could have done last year (vs. Cena) was to have Cena lock him in the STF, only for Bray to refuse to submit and eventually pass out. Just full-on WM13.
ReplyDeleteA big problem with the Undertaker is once you eliminate The Streak then you either have to deal with him as a real person, or continue to book him as a cartoonish supernatural figure. Unfortunately most fans don't buy into the whole supernatural thing anymore. Look at how they reacted to the smoke & lightning bolt this past Monday. People perhaps enjoyed the theatricality of it, but for years it was all about The Streak and the match in the ring. With no streak, the best you can hope for is the two having a great match and it getting acclaim after the fact. Not having Taker on to hype the feud, and relying on smoke & lightning bolts, just isn't going to work in 2015.
ReplyDeleteWILL THE STREAK CONTINUE?!!
ReplyDeleteWhich is why most people seem sure that Bray will win in the weakest possible way.
ReplyDelete"Is Bray going to be hurt by jobbing to the Undertaker at Wrestlemania? No."
ReplyDeleteExcept yeah, and it further reinforces the "the current roster is shit in comparison to the old guys" meme that has dominated WWE for awhile now, and makes the WWE everyday roster look so putrid throughout the year.
I actually feel the opposite way, I think Taker should have tried with the Streak intact. That said, that's more of an "emotional" thing on my part, and I understand the business side of using it to give the rib to someone.
ReplyDelete"Come on royalties" - Koko B. Ware
ReplyDeleteI disagree, I think the build was exactly what wrestling should be - a heated grudge with high stakes, being made as personal as possible.
ReplyDeleteGranted, I understand where people feel that certain real things like death shouldn't be incorporated, but it was Paul Bearer, his whole gimmick was that of a mortician managing a wrestling zombie.
Girls in Cars is a shockingly listenable slice of 80s cheesy pop.
ReplyDeleteBut as a wrestling theme, it's the drizzling shits.
Yeah, and aren't we lucky it's going to eat up an hour of Mahia(including 25-minute entrance)...
ReplyDeleteIt's fucking crazy how quickly Taker lost all value after the Streak ended, but then, I guess when you wrestle once a year and that match is to defend the streak, that's what happens.
ReplyDeleteLast year's match should have ended with Taker motionless on the mat. Lights go out, thunder rumbles, smoke fills the ringside area, blue lights on and there's just the urn in the ring. Druid chants start, druids hit the ring, retrieve the urn, the urn is carried up the ramp as Taker's gong tolls 10 times. The end.
Taker is maybe seen again at his HoF induction, but maybe not even then.
Even if it is a passing of the torch and the final Undertaker match you know it'll be a wasteed rub because there's no way Bray gets booked as strong as Undertaker was so that to me is more of the problem than anything.
ReplyDeleteIt could be a great story. I just don't see Bray going over, which is amazingly short-sighted.
ReplyDeleteThis. I wasn't aware public opinion had shifted, but as certain as some are that Sting's counting the lights at WM, I'm doubly sure Bray is.
ReplyDeleteSo youre saying we should be excited at seeing a guy who was broken down badly last year and is a year older, in a meaningless match that will be **1\2 at best? Yay.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think they could do something really new and interesting with Taker as the sympathetic character. Imagine the match being built around Taker as no longer being what he once was, but some beat-up old man with too much pride to stay away from the ring. Having Bray not only beat Taker down, but go much further than needed (multiple finishers, pulling him up during pin attempts, multiple chair shots) would add a great sadistic streak to Bray's character.
ReplyDeleteIF he puts Bray over. I'm sure that he WOULD do it, but I'm not at all convinced that's what he's been asked to do.
ReplyDeleteGod forbid people critique something they pay for.
ReplyDeleteThis would work if Bray had done anything meaningful in the past year.
ReplyDeleteSeeing a 50-year-old cripple doesn't do it for me. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteIf Hulk Hogan was wrestling this year, it'd be his first match in, what, 3 years? Should we get hype about that?
ReplyDeleteWhat does how long it's been since he wrestled have to do with how much anyone wants to see him wrestle?
Bray was hurt badly with his feud with cena. He recovered by disappearing for a couple months and taking in the arguably the most over non inured guy on the roster in Dean Ambrose. He then totally dominated the feud and the booking made Ambrose a comedy figure that even makee Santino jealous. And the reason was according to meltzer was to keep him strong for the undertaker. So what happens if the undertaker does win? who does that help besides a guy who only wrestles once a year? It certainly doesn't help 2 possible cornerstones to the main event in the next 10 years.
ReplyDeleteGood point, and I don't even necessarily think that Reigns CAN'T be the guy....he's just not the guy RIGHT NOW, and Vince force feeding him now isn't doing any wonders for his popularity.
ReplyDeleteBlassie checking out Liz in the top photo is also great.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrible opinion.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest you're not going to get out of that mentality in one match and just being a guy who can be in the ring with the Undertaker is more of a rub than beating the current roster. Within the mess they've created; I'd say it's fine.
ReplyDeleteThe whole roster is overexposed, they're on both shows, five hours a week. The part timers are so overpushed because we have time to "miss" them.
It felt too creepily personal and not enough showbiz hokey. I think if they had let Punk write some of his own stuff he could have done better.
ReplyDeleteOh Bow me.
ReplyDeleteI'll put this comment on stand by until Mania, when actual wrestling fans cheer Undertaker while the internet goes 'LOL, STREAK.'
ReplyDeleteYour loss.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it IS the start of a new streak. If Taker wins this match, he's only 21 wins away from breaking his own record.
ReplyDeleteNo problem man :)
ReplyDeletePay for? That's a rarity around here.
ReplyDeleteNice to see optimism.
ReplyDeleteZing!
ReplyDeleteLOSING STREAK GIMMICK! I think it's time...
ReplyDeleteBray can start that by losing this year. He can be the guy who loses at every Mania. I think Big Show had a Mania losing streak for a bit.
ReplyDeleteHe's 0-21...who'll be the guy to break the streak??? Oh my god!! That's Dean Ambrose music!!!
ReplyDeleteI really want to do this now.
ReplyDeleteHahaha. No. It's never a loss if I miss out on seeing The Undertaker.
ReplyDeleteIt was particularly cruel because the whole schpiel from the league was that our arena sucked...and then they moved them into a fucking Arena2 football stadium lol
ReplyDeleteI'm down; we should see who else is interested.
ReplyDeleteWWF Full Metal is the best one
ReplyDeleteYou didn't actually address what he said. Look, if you like The Undertaker, that's cool. I would say a majority would agree that the appeal to Taker at this point was in his streak.
ReplyDeleteIn a perfect world, Stern should've done for Seattle what he did for Charlotte: promise a new team even after the old one left. Since the city owned the Sonics brand it was a lot easier to pull off there than it wound up being here, but Seattle is too nice a city (and the franchise historic enough) not to have pro basketball there. I mean, really, Sacramento gets basketball but Seattle doesn't? That just sounds cracked out.
ReplyDeleteThis will be the first time Reigns and Cena will be coveted.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a job for Bayless.
ReplyDeleteHow is Alex Riley becoming one of my favorite wrestlers? What devil magic is this?
ReplyDeleteIn 1990, Martel & Roma probably made sense as a pretty-boy heel tag team called the "Models", although I'm glad Rick got a singles push instead, post-Strike Force. The "Power & Glory" team ended up much better than it had any right to be as well.
ReplyDeleteMaybe run with the story that he lost his supernatural powers. When he raises his arms up in the corner before the match, the lights don't actually come back on.
ReplyDeleteThe whole Cena/Bray storyline was Bray trying to make Cena go over the edge so really Bray should've provoked Cena to the level where he basically loses it and starts to question himself. Of course it was just another clean Cena win with nothing major happening.
ReplyDeleteTime to ask what we all are wondering: when is the re-release of WCW Slam Jam?
ReplyDeleteIRS with the run-in, hitting Taker with the Write-Off and putting Bray on top for the win?
ReplyDeleteEh, he still has a really cool entrance... especially at WM. My hope is that the fan base doesn't turn on him and start chanting for Wyatt. That would be really sad.
ReplyDeleteWell I think the problem is that without the streak, you need an actual story. And for that story to work, you need both guys to participate. I don't think I quite understand why Bray Wyatt wants to fight the Undertaker. His issues with him seem to come out of no where and there's no real answer as to why he wants to fight him at WrestleMania. And why is Undertaker agreeing to the match? Simple things like "Bray thinks Undertaker is weak now" and "Undertaker wants to defend his legacy" are great, but it's a little flimsy for a WrestleMania main event storyline. Especially when one guy is doing all the (repetitive) talking.
ReplyDeleteThat already happened during Taker vs Punk at WM29
ReplyDeleteThat could have been a fun match to watch.
ReplyDeleteYou can't say he lost all value. There would certainly be value if this was a feud based on something more than heel starts randomly cutting promos on Taker at the beginning of WM season while he's been absent for a year, and then base the feud on urns and flaming rocking chairs.
ReplyDeleteIf it was a real story it would have been fine
I enjoyed the one moment from an earlier episode.
ReplyDelete:Zack tries to climb a fence:
Friend:"Zack, what are you doing?!"
Zack:"I'm trying to get over!"
I am the SPOILER!
ReplyDeleteI'm sad. I missed a Dougie comment. Get this... He said "lol". Can you believe it?!
ReplyDeleteMercury was probably a 10 year vet by that point too
ReplyDeletePeople love self-aware humor
ReplyDeleteOR...they put him in a casket, lightning strikes the casket, then he comes in on a video to say that he won't rest...in...peace!!! Then he floats away in the sky.
ReplyDeleteNo way
ReplyDeleteSeriously!
ReplyDeleteWrestlers come up with ideas. Writers do the gruntwork of filling in hundreds of hours of content a year.
ReplyDeleteBut I feel that was more pro-Punk than anti-Taker sentiment
ReplyDeleteBray Wyatt will the "22" in "22 and 1"!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised he mustered enough brain power to post more than two letters.
ReplyDeleteI think there is value if Bray goes over.
ReplyDeleteFor Taker I mean. Taker winning here means nothing--Taker LOSING gives him a reason to have a retirement match at mania 32.
The man was dominant for 2 decades--and refuses to go out on his back. Back to back losses has even Taker doubting himself. Whether he gets to ride off into the sunset with a win, or its just a tragic story of a man who really did have nothing left (athlete who couldn't let it go) the story works, and is compelling.
Very true. I get what you meant now
ReplyDeleteFor Taker to put on a 'classic' long match to boost his enormous ego.
ReplyDeleteCool news, they're both classics to me! And I thought Piledriver was the one with rights issues, as it was never put on CD when TWA was released on the format in the Attitude Era. Plus a lot of the songs got censored off of reruns, until recently.
ReplyDelete*Zach Ryder gets shoved*
ReplyDelete"Nobody pushes Zach Ryder!"
Wasn't there a WCW music comp in the works?
ReplyDeleteBingo. To me there's money in a story along the lines of Mickey Rourke's character from "The Wrestler". The human being trying to win one more, no druids or lightning, to prove something. Maybe even a cameo from McCool trying to talk him out of it.
