So Scott... in your opinion, how are things in TNA? Fabulous? Fantastic? Perhaps some other "F" word?
Meltzer actually talked about it on the last show, and while the payroll problems are slightly exaggerated, it's not a good sign. More troubling for TNA is that Destination America basically has full control over the show and content and purse strings, and they're now cancelling shows left and right. And given that TNA hasn't exactly been the smashing success that was hoped for by the network, it could be a short relationship between them.
Still trying to understand how anyone thought this was a good idea from jump.
ReplyDeleteApparently they've been one of the highest-rated shows on the channel...even if it's on a small scale, how is that not considered something of a success?
ReplyDeleteDo wrestlers not have direct deposit?
ReplyDeleteIt was better than death, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteFor the same reason that being the leading scorer on a last-place team doesn't win you the MVP.
ReplyDeleteBeing on television vs. not being on television means they had to consider going there a good idea, because it was their only option.
ReplyDeleteFair point. But you'd still consider that leading scorer to be a good player and valuable to that team, wouldn't you?
ReplyDeleteThe whole Tazz thing is not good, either. There's a guy who has proven loyal to any company he's worked for (for the most part), and for him to refuse to work because of non-pay is a really bad sign.
ReplyDeleteNot necessarily. Someone has to take shots; even on the worst team ever will have a leading scorer. Doesn't mean they were actually valuable.
ReplyDeleteThey had options before getting to this point. Their promotion of events is criminally pathetic. Like booking an event in a minor league ballpark and having little promotion.
ReplyDeleteEVERYTHING IS FLAMINGOS!!!
ReplyDeleteI did that right, right?
This is blown amazingly out of proportion. Things are just fine. They are the highest rated program by far on their network and the program itself has been excellent. Just another case of the IWC trying to be negative towards TNA. There is nothing more to the story than that.
ReplyDeleteI'd die laughing if they don't because direct deposit is for employees, and they are trying to maintain the illusion of independent contractors.
ReplyDeleteThat would be funny, but you can set up an external deposit or withdrawal for anything.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what level you have to reach in WWE these days before you're making more money than you could as a high-level indy guy.
ReplyDeleteReally, with this?
ReplyDeleteUgh, I think I spend way too much time here.
Can Bobby Roode just join WWE already?
ReplyDeleteRosebud?
ReplyDeleteToo old
ReplyDeleteWell, there *are* payroll problems, and there was an issue with Taz. If we divide all signs into "good signs" and "bad signs", they would definitely be in the category of "bad signs".
ReplyDeleteWho still mails pay checks?
ReplyDeleteYou did it fine.
ReplyDeleteOne also has to consider time away from family, travel costs, and taxes for the higher salary.
ReplyDeleteHave the rating been poor?
ReplyDeleteThey’d send bank payments and email payment confirmations but as everyone knows,
ReplyDeletethe internet is conspiring against TNA and thus can’t be trusted.
Bayless, did you run that "WWE gives cities letter grades story"?
ReplyDeleteI thought that was a good one.
I watched the second episode of the Daredevil program on the Netflix service last night.
ReplyDeleteIt was fine. My interest waned a bit compared to the first episode, but it was interesting enough that I will likely watch the third episode.
Here's a Netflix recommendation, we're watching this 8 part French drama called The Returned about people who return from the dead. It's really good. There seems to be a US remake on there too.
ReplyDeleteDidn't they go for Joe who is also old?
ReplyDeleteTorn ACL, well that escalated quickly from a knee sprain.
ReplyDeletei would say anybody with merch, cuz at least they are featured in some way on tv.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on how much it costs to get those ratings. Making these numbers up, but let's say you can pay say $100,000 for a .1 rating or $1,000,000 for a .2 rating, you'll take the lower rating for the significantly lower cost. If TNA is costing a lot of money for Destination America and now getting significantly better ratings for them, it's not the success they were hoping for. Destination America can draw decent ratings airing cheaply made reality shows, just like Spike is doing with stuff like Cops.
ReplyDeleteOf all the things that seem needlessly expensive for an organization as strapped for cash as TNA, Taz on commentary seems like a waste. Will people really miss hearing about "tomatoes" and "rocketbustas?"
ReplyDeleteLOL they're in the 100+ # channel cable ghetto on a Friday night on life support and the cash quit flowing. Denial is whoa.
ReplyDeleteThe real question is if their library would even be worth purchasing for WWE.
ReplyDeleteBig fish in a cereal bowl.
ReplyDeleteNo I know. Wish he joined in 07-08.
ReplyDeleteScott posted it a few days ago separate from the daily update.
ReplyDeleteThe Briscoe's father has a farming business. They work on it as much as they can, but do not run it because of all the time and such they put in with ROH and they indy circuit.
ReplyDeleteWell, it'll be easier to know which Uso is which finally.
ReplyDeleteIs there that much merch money available to most guys, though? This may be anecdotal but when I went to Raw in Indianapolis a few months ago, the merchandise stands looked like they had more Cena stuff than everyone else combined. Between that and the PPV money all but drying up, it seems like someone who has name recognition could do better for themselves on the indies if they could put up with the aggravation and extra time and energy of essentially running their own business.
ReplyDeleteSo maybe I'm thinking more of guys who've already made it in WWE and have huge name recognition/fan following but don't sell a lot of merch or get a lot of main event slots...someone like Ziggler or Ambrose, for example, rather than indy guys like the Briscoes who've never had the WWE exposure.
I could be totally off-base on this, since we never really know how much most guys are making.
Honestly it depends on the price. The Sting set did really well so I can imagine wanting some more Sting stuff to pump out some more sets for that but it's not like a lot of the WWE roster has a rich history in TNA during the good years. Also I don't see a "Rise to the middle and fall to lower than low of TNA" disc selling that well. And WWE seems to not care about Kurt Angle.
ReplyDeleteTo use another "F" word. Fine, TNA is fine.
ReplyDeleteI'm losing my mind, I think. Between daily pain and losing my job, about the only thing to look forward to each week was baseball and NXT. My Network subscription ended last night, and I don't have two nickels to throw at it. It's too bad baseball only heals the spirit and not the body.
ReplyDeleteAngle had some pretty negative things to say about his departure from WWE. If even half of it is true, I'd be surprised to ever see him back.
ReplyDeleteMeltzer making up shit again.
ReplyDeleteHere's a VERY recent press release from DA showing that they are very happy with TNA AND don't care that they went to London. You people really need to stop taking everything Meltzer makes up as gospel. It's really sad.

I found it telling that so many of the great old Mid-Atlantic/WCW towns are relegated to 'C-Status' now, like Chattanooga and Charlotte.
ReplyDeleteScott posted that link a few days ago
ReplyDeleteCan't say that I blame Taz. I'll show up for work when my money is on time. That's the deal.
ReplyDeleteThat's what happens when you kill the home promotion and only give the fans their fix once a year.
ReplyDeleteIts like the circus, literally and figuratively.
Hate to see this Biff. You're a good dude. Hoping that things turn around soon. Everything generally gets better.
ReplyDeleteDamn, I missed that one.
ReplyDeleteTNA is a vegetable on life support for a year now. A truly sad story of a company that took way too long to get their shit together.
ReplyDeleteCleveland with only a B :(
ReplyDeleteAnd, it's probably not fair to say they make more between ROH and the farming business than they would in WWE. NXT? Sure. But not WWE.
ReplyDeleteFor you? If so, that sucks. I had doctor tell me my shoulder pain was tendinitis, only to later find out I had a fully torn labrum, partially torn rotator cuff, seperated shoulder, and bone impingementon my shoulder. Doctors are fun.
ReplyDeleteHe will be when he's too broken down to wrestle again and then HHH will not feel threatened and will place nice with him. See: Warrior and Bruno.
ReplyDeleteHang in there buddy, I believe in you.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that Dixie hasn't stepped down from her roll in real life. A new figure head probably wouldn't help but it couldn't be worse at this point. I know she's not the reason Tna sucks but she has had almost a 10 year crack at this thing now.
ReplyDeleteCompanies who are struggling to pay their employees and need to use the damn postal service as an excuse as to why checks aren't arriving on time.
ReplyDeleteIf my job asked me to come to.work after missing a paycheck I'd tell them to fuck off too. Taz is 100% in the right.
ReplyDeleteI dont think you are off-base.
ReplyDeleteI could be completely wrong, but I would figure that for someone like Kofi who has been around since 2006-7, has some merch. Is featured reguarly on TV in a safe midcard spot the whole time. Has had some merch. Video game likeness and all that.
The indies can't afford him.
TNA right now cant afford him.
I wouldnt be shocked to hear he is on a 156 downside. (3K a week)
You gotta figure that at wrestlings height people like the Sandman and Raven were making the same money in ECW during its last days and jumped to WCW for bigger money.
And that was the biggest indy ever... and Im sure the top guys in TNA are not making that now.
Why would they goto the indies and work for peanuts?
Exactly. I don't work for free.
ReplyDeleteTBF both of those begin with the letter C so it makes sense!
ReplyDelete:: Rimshot ::
Cleveland is a B+ player at best.
ReplyDeleteTNA only exists to give that muppet something to do with her life.
ReplyDeleteand you would think we would be a better responding crowd.
ReplyDeleteEvery year RAW comes to cleveland right before WM and we blow the roof off. We used to host Survivor Series, but I think that since we never had a real home promotion during the territory days that we dont really have an smart identity.
I don't want people getting hurt, but I'm not upset that the Uso's will be out of the tag scene for most of the year
ReplyDeleteWhat type of work are you in?
ReplyDeleteMaybe Jimmy could follow his wife and turn heel as well.
ReplyDeleteLol @official press release. And what exactly did Meltzer say? You know
ReplyDeleteyou get this wrong *every* time and are always called out on it right?
Why not send him to NXT to work as a singles guy for a little?
ReplyDeleteRoman Reigns sucks
ReplyDeleteTrue, we were right outside of AWA. Were we even in Sheik's territory?
ReplyDeleteKeep your head up bud. I hope everything works out for the best. Have you looked for your next job? Marv is hiring......
ReplyDeleteHonestly, probably worse. I wasn't met with the most positive response at work today when I said the Browns uniform unveiling party was one of the dumbest things I've heard before.
ReplyDeleteNot a bad idea, it worked for Tyson Kidd.
ReplyDeleteI just finished the fourth. I like the show but it's not grabbing me as something I HAVE to binge.
ReplyDeleteIm sure during the 70s, Big time came thru, (cuz they ran Toledo) but Cleveland specifically was Vince Sr. Wasteland cuz it was a bigger market than Youngstown/Akron/Canton but outside their "lines".
ReplyDeleteNow Ohio as a whole was a hodge-podge of promotions.
Cincy was more Big Time Wrestling, but also had Crusher's Indianapolis promotion.
Columbus was a Georgia Championship Wrestling because of TBS reaching that far north.
It'll help the division and the Usos themselves. They're really good but WWE gives them little in terms of character development and interesting storylines. A few months away will freshen them up when they come back.
ReplyDeleteJury has reached a verdict in Hernandez case.
ReplyDeleteI played my entire senior year of high school baseball with a misdiagnosed torn rotator cuff. Fun indeed.
ReplyDeleteThe verdict: TNA is fine
ReplyDeleteMeltzer's word is taken as gospel in a form of entertainment where the only people who really know what happened are those directly in charge.
ReplyDeleteHearsay and speculation treated as fact has resulted in people seemingly believing everything they are told.
"What is the mail man doing in the Impact Zone?"
ReplyDeleteStep back from being a wrestling fan, look at it from a TV perspective, and you'll see that there is a lot of cause for concern. Discovery is paying $16 million a year for TNA. That is far above the average for their usual reality-based programming. Clearly the network has been hoping for a show that would overperform and bring new eyes to Destination America. That hasn't happened yet. Despite being their new top show they have yet to see an episode crack the cable top 100 on Friday nights (that I'm aware of).
ReplyDeleteYeah, but if Meltzer says there are payroll issues, what does a DAmerica press release talking about demographic blah-blah have to do with it?
ReplyDeleteBingo. DA is happy to have TNA on their network and they aren't mad that they went to the UK. If you've watched TNA for the last year or more, you'll notice that their booking has been the same good stuff as it is currently. DA has no influence over who's champion and what storylines they are running. Just because Angle, arguably TNA's biggest name, is champion and happens to be an Olympic gold medalist, it doesn't mean that DA told TNA to make him champion. Manik and Matt Hardy, as well as others, this past week have come out and proved Meltzer's "pay" and "low morale" typical ten times a year stories incorrect. No one bothers to read what the wrestlers say or think, but they automatically assume that whatever Meltzer puts out in his little newsletter is true.
ReplyDeleteI would be willing to bend a little if it were an isolated incident and for a good reason. But apparently this has been an ongoing problem, so kudos to Taz.
ReplyDeleteHernandez found guilty of 1st degree murder.
ReplyDeleteWhen and if everything falls apart, Beer Money will show up and be the Brainbusters 2.0.
ReplyDeleteI'm cool with that.
You haven't the foggiest what Meltzer actually said because you didn't read the newsletter or listen to the shows, and you get the information third hand. Stop talking about him, since everyone who *does* read him knows that you're always completely off-base. Save this for the fanboy sites, really.
ReplyDeletehttp://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12690080/washington-wizards-paul-pierce-speaks-truth
ReplyDeleteWow!
I'm going off of every post that Bayless has provided as well as other site's quotes. Meltzer's followers are really brainwashed. It's sad. Almost like a cult.
ReplyDeleteBayless what's your take?
ReplyDeleteI was hoping he'd beat it
ReplyDeleteYou'll get another job. Focus on the medical situation.
ReplyDeleteAaron Hernandez is a dumb dumb dumb man. His face is hilarious
ReplyDeleteYou have a habit of misreading and misrepresenting. I don't get it. Wasn't there like a month when you realised that TNA wasn't worlds greatest perfection, and laid off the bullshit for a bit? Maybe it was one of those fake accounts like the fake Dougie2876.
ReplyDeleteYea, I buggered my knee Wrestlemania Sunday and everyone assumed it was a sprain. Went to the poor people clinic and was told it was a sprain and given some pills.
ReplyDeleteA few days later I thought: Huh, this still hurts I should see a real doctor.
And I got an MRI yesterday and today was told the BAD NEWS
Dude Paul Pierce took a huge dump on the nets and especially D Will.
ReplyDeleteSo knee surgery?
ReplyDeleteI know. D-Will being a cocksucker is not exactly a state secret. He's just pissed BK wouldn't bring him back
ReplyDeleteI'm biased, since I was at Illinois the same time as him and knew him a little bit, but I think Deron's just become an easy target to pile onto. I don't think you become as good as Deron did- when Deron wasn't a phenom from a young age, he's a guy who really had to work to remake his body and his game to be an NBA prospect- without giving a shit, so Paul Pierce can eat a bag of hammers.
ReplyDeleteshee-it. Best of luck dude. Bad time for BODers health. :(
ReplyDeleteI thought he was an NBA MVP type player when he ate Baron Davis for lunch in that playoff series but man what a drop off.
ReplyDeleteThat sucks.
ReplyDeleteD=Will's an asshole though, as I said above, that's not exactly a secret. This was fine when he was neck and neck with CP3 but now it's just sad
ReplyDeleteBeer Money in NXT would be a great veteran tag team.
ReplyDeleteAnd Hernandez still has another murder trial! Might as well just hire a public defender
ReplyDeleteOh well it made 73 million impressions on twitter!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHey its a straw to grasp on to.
ReplyDeleteI'm fine. I've been walking on it for two weeks and been fine. I feel like Kurt Angle. He tore his quad just this morning
ReplyDeleteSo, jail time forever huh??
ReplyDeleteMandatory lifetime jail sentence with no chance of parole.
ReplyDelete"Meltzer's followers are really brainwashed. It's sad. Almost like a cult."
ReplyDeleteBAHAHAHAHA, says the guy who pretends TNA is a successful business.
Every possible indicator of their's is in the absolute toilet and declining greatly in the last few years. Their TV audience is now less than half of what it had been, their on a near UHF station with much less rights fees, they don't run live events anymore because nobody buys tickets, they stopped running PPV because people stopped buying them.
How is the person who has been reporting their failures wrong? He's been calling them out as a failing company in recent years, and that's exactly what they are.
Again, it's cool that you enjoy their TV shows. Honestly good for you--- I';ve given TNA loads of tries over the years and been turned off every time. But that's not the issue.
The issue is that you refuse to acknowledge what a failing business they are. The people reporting such are just telling you the harsh truth.
If he was a cop he would have.
ReplyDeleteI have my degree in journalism and mass communications, but no newspaper or publication is hiring in my region (I've been scouring them all almost daily), so I went to work as a Comm. Director for my friend's company. Now I'm sitting at home with three kidney stones and no paycheck right now.
ReplyDeleteWow, candid stuff from Pierce. The beginning of his Boston career he was a dick and was notorious for partying and not tipping anyone when he went out. I also heard some stories about him and Ricky Davis about hitting on anything that walked. Maybe he changed a little but he was on some shit teams for the C's. And the stuff about Otto Porter seemed designed to light a fire under his ass. And the stuff about Ray/Rondo was well known and Ray's "Classy player" label was always full of shit: he cheated on his wife here and whined on his way out.
ReplyDeleteBut why grasp straws? Why read official press releases rather than read journalists? Fusient put out a press release saying they’d bought WCW. Didn’t make it freakin’ so. I don’t care if people think Meltzer is right or wrong, I only get annoyed when people get *what* he said wrong, or make assumptions about it. Lazy at best, lying at worst. Why be a straw-grasping lazy liar? It’s a poor gimmick, with no long term potential.
ReplyDeleteThis press release says jackshit about them not missing payroll.
ReplyDeleteIt also doesn't use any hard ratings numbers, because teh fact is TNA's ratings are pretty terrible. Yeah they're better than what Destination America, a glorified Youtube channel, had gotten before. But it's still pretty bad, and about a 50-60% drop from what TNA had at the end with Spike. Hence, the press release is about as vague as humanely possible.
But yes, this proves or disproves absolutely nothing but nice try superfan!
Two things:
ReplyDelete1) Destination America does this all the time for lots of their programming. It doesn't mean they are pleased with this level of success, just that--for public relation purposes--they trumpet every positive they can. No one argues that TNA hasn't done relatively well on the network, it's just a matter of are they doing as well as the network has hoped internally?
2) As to why they'd be hoping for more out of TNA, it's because TNA is far more expensive than any other programming on their network. You yourself have repeatedly mentioned DA is investing $16 million in the show. Nothing else they air comes close to costing that much. Most of the reality shows they air cost a couple million at most--many less than that.
It's not hard to go look at the cable TV ratings and see that TNA has yet to crack the top 100, which are ranked based on 18-49 ratings. TNA may be tops for Destination America in overall viewers, getting a lot of additional viewers in DVR views, but if that 18-49 number is coming in low that will be a concern. The fact that they keep trumpeting the show's performance in the M25-54 category shows how narrow the program's overall success has been. You don't spend $16 million to target a niche market.
I ran a simulation on Madden '12 the other day, and wound up playing a team that had both Jovan Belcher and Aaron Hernandez on it. On the flip side, Tim Tebow was their quarterback, so I have no idea what any of it means.
ReplyDeleteRough time for BODers. Hope everything gets
ReplyDeletebetter soon. :/
It's always kind of been my take on it. I probably wrote about 50,000 words on the D-Will vs. Chis Paul debate all those years ago. Williams had the talent and had just as high a ceiling as CP3, maybe even higher. He just wasn't willing to go get it. It was telling that once he got away from Jerry Sloan, who he hated, his career hit that tailspin.
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be an interesting media cycle when the Williams defenders come out. People will talk about the ankle and whether his decline was injury or attitude. I wonder if anyone will even argue that he can be a star again.
When I played NHL 02 I felt guilty checking the guy Dany Heatley killed
ReplyDeleteI watched the Heyman bio last night and enjoyed it immensely. Even Steph came across as reasonable and fair, which was shocking. The most fascinating part was Paul talking about his rep for constantly lying, and basically saying that he did what he felt he had to do to keep things running and the (unspoken) caveat that most of the ECW talent wanted and needed to believe in the lie. Plus, finally getting Tod Gordon's side of the mole story was refreshing. No Vince and no Austin was weird, though.
ReplyDeleteOr if he was tried in Florida.
ReplyDeleteJesus, just cancel TNA alreday so the roster can either retire, work ROH, or (which applies to most of these guys) find something else that they're actually good at in life.
ReplyDeleteWhat's even the point of that trial? He's already doing life without parole. There is no death penalty possibility that I'm aware of as long as he doesn't kill anyone while on the inside (and even then, like 8 different hoops have to be jumped through to even consider death). Life without parole + 25 years?
ReplyDeleteTebow showed them the power of god.
ReplyDeleteJustice for the victims?
ReplyDeleteI would still gladly put my hand up that muppet's skirt any day.
ReplyDeleteProbably 25 states he would have hung the jury. In Mass. they only had to prove he participated in the crime. In a state where they had to prove 1st degree murder by proving he actually pulled the trigger there just wasn't any hope of this. The prosecution just barely made their case under the weakest murder statute in the US.
ReplyDeleteYea, that ship sailed
ReplyDeleteAlways thought Ray was full of shit from any interaction with him Could be a real asshole. Always loved Pierce though.
ReplyDeleteYea, not a lawyer and Hernandez is a shitbag, but that seems sketchy
ReplyDeletePlaying nice with the media will get you that "Classy" label.
ReplyDeleteThey're talking about it on ESPN right now. 4 guys went out, 3 guys came back. There's no way to prove who shot and with 3 people instead of 2, the whole "everyone point to someone else" works considerably better. In California the jury hangs because they don't have the gun and no positive forensics. They would have needed to make one of the co-conspirators a sweetheart deal otherwise everyone walks (which is why no lawyer would take a deal).
ReplyDeleteBut that's California.
It really is a must-watch.
ReplyDeleteLove the username.
ReplyDeleteIm not a super-anime fan, but Berserk is clearly my fave.
*salute*
Jesus is still recuperating from his Easter party. Give the guy a rest.
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine hearing that you're going to spend the rest of your life in prison with no chance of getting out alive.
ReplyDeleteYea, it seems weird that you can be convicted of murder just for being there. I think there should be a really high standard for convicting a murder, not, well he was there.....
ReplyDeleteI always thought he should've fled when they were investigating.
ReplyDeleteSo does Hernandez have to spend the rest of his life in solitary because he's Aaron Hernandez?
ReplyDeleteWell clearly Aaron hernandez woukd've walked if Clarence Thomas were his lawyer. Shit, what's Clarence MASON up to these days? He would've had that man innocent in a week!
ReplyDeleteSolitary is cruel and unusual so unless he kills someone in jail or specifically asks for it, no. Hell they didn't give it to Jeffrey Dahmer, Hernandez is small fry compared to that.
ReplyDeleteTwitter's gotten some good Tight End potty jokes in about the Hernandez trial lol.
ReplyDelete23 hours a day alone in a 10x6 cell? I'd rather you kill me and get it over with.
ReplyDeleteAnd I though that Dreamer had the best analogy about the new ECW, with Paul as the divorced dad who had to give up custody to new stepdad Vince, who was determined to raise the child his way.
ReplyDeleteHahaha, well I can't imagine that killing off TNA would take too much of his energy
ReplyDeleteThe oft-repeated number is $16 million. Your average ghost hunter or Bigfoot related show cost a couple hundred thousand. You literally just send out a camera crew to film people doing stuff for a few weeks or months, then edit it into something resembling a show. Even the high end shows using top-notch gear, helicopter footage, etc. cost a couple million. Of course they're supposed to be getting 52 weeks worth of episodes from TNA, as well as additional programming, but they're getting it sight unseen. It doesn't exist yet because it hasn't been taped. That's why the network has reportedly been so hands-on about things. They're trying to assure a return on their investment. No doubt like any other money mark they're learning that pro wrestling isn't that easy to control.
ReplyDeleteSo I guess there goes Aaron Hernandez's shot at coming in and winning the TNA tag titles?
ReplyDeleteI give TNA credit for surviving this long disaster after disaster. But not too much credit.
ReplyDeleteThis Hernandez stuff is funny to me because one of my oldest friends is also named Aaron Hernandez lol
ReplyDeleteIf this case is overturned and they don't have the other trials he could walk free.
ReplyDeletehttp://bruins.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=763437
ReplyDeleteWhat timing!
I dunno man, the guys on this roster are batshit crazy for allowing themselves to follow this retard management team for as long as they did. Have some self respect or actual business sense and either wrestle somewhere else or learn a fucking trade.
ReplyDeleteFor Flash fans: do you think we're headed for some sort of swerve with the Wells/Thawne plotline? I mean, everyone knows now, and yet we've still got three episodes to go. I'm not sure how I feel about three more weeks of loaded dialogue with everyone glancing at each other furtively.
ReplyDeleteBe nice. I haven't read any comics, and I'm into the show.
ReplyDeleteAnd he'll do one final job to HHH and then give him his Olympic medal because he's the best ever.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Destination America will make that demand very soon!
ReplyDeleteWell, I tried to be as non-specific as possible.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the falcon was a fake.
Rhyno/Zayn should be awesome tonight.
ReplyDeleteConsidering the Network isn't even using all of the WCW library and barely acknowledges Mid-South, AWA, and World Class, etc. I'd say a no go on the library.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin'. Not everyone knows.
ReplyDeleteOh? Yeah, might have to check that out.
ReplyDeleteAssuming this isn't flame, you're a shoo-in to work with Marv. Kidney Stones? Posting on the BOD? Journalism? He'd have to at least give you an interview. Now, I have friends who work at major newspapers (one in NYC, on in Dallas, one in Houston - the one in Dallas made enough money, but she was rich to begin with; the one in NY didn't make shit; idk how much the one in Houston makes), so who knows what he could pay. Still, it would beat unemployment, and give you a resume to build on.
ReplyDeleteDahmer actually specially requested to be let out of solitary.
ReplyDeleteThe Holy Demon Army is such a badass sounding tag team name.
ReplyDelete15ish years later, and I still can't quite believe that Kevin Nash wearing FUBU was a real thing.
ReplyDeleteThere is a fascinating story to be told in terms of who it was at Spike that chose to believe in TNA for so long. Their failure there was actually a triple failure. They failed critically (fan reaction), commercially (death of PPVs & house shows), and as a source of TV product (ratings). The amount of time they succeeded in any of those 3 categories was minimal, nevermind all 3 at once. Someday we're going to hear the behind-the-scenes story and it will blow our minds.
ReplyDeleteOn Briscoes -- can you make a ton farming or is WWE really cheap?
ReplyDeleteWait...wut?
ReplyDeleteMight as well call the Skinny Fat Guys.
Kevin Nash was always embraced by the black community
ReplyDeleteFair enough, I keep forgetting that we now live in a binge-watching world. I really do feel like an old fuddy-duddy sometimes, what with my watching scheduled network TV and hanging on to my DVDs and VHSes.
ReplyDeleteHow are things with you wife? Did they catch the guy? (Sorry if you posted this info already)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.puroresucentral.com/Teams-HDA.html
ReplyDeleteHey, nah. The police were very nice but the only description she could give was really generic "white, early 30s, dark hair", it just happened too fast. I doubt they'll find him. Cheers for asking
ReplyDeleteShe's okay though, she took the day off work today but should be okay tomorrow
ReplyDeletePeter Chiarelli is out as the Bruins GM. Thank Christ.
ReplyDeleteVHSes are a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteThe NXT guys really don't make much. 25k-40k is the range I read. It wouldn't be too hard to make that as one of the biggest names on the indie scene and a little chicken pickin on the side.
ReplyDeleteRay looks like a nice guy, sort of like Titus O'Neill. Now by all accounts including Princess Titus *is* a hell of a guy, but he also looks like he'd be cool. Total halo effect; see early Kobe.

ReplyDeleteWho do you think tells Meltzer they haven't been paid? The guys that haven't been paid.
ReplyDeleteSomeone told him it stood for "For Underpaid Big 'Uns."
ReplyDeleteTrue, a full behind the scenes account of TNA's failure would be pretty interesting, but honestly I wonder if there's even that much to tell.
ReplyDeleteThe thing with TNA is they never at any point rose to any great heights, or squandered anything super hot (I guess Samoa Joe's initial run would be the hottest thing they ever had), or were ever particularly beloved by a rabid fanbase. They've just been there for 10 years, pulling in whatever ratings and putting on mediocre to bad shows consistently. Aside from the ex-WWE/WCW guys who came through the doors (for whom TNA is a footnote within their careers) it's not even like there's been big stars and personalities that anyone cares about. I mean, Robert Roode is probably a nice guy, but who really gives fuck all about the real story of his career?
Basically, they've been so consistently shitty that even a tell-all about them doesn't seem like a big deal.
I can't believe that after five decades and 20+ films, we STILL haven't had "Bond vs. Bond" yet. I mean, 007 having to content with a legendary agent gone bad? It practically writes itself. Granted, Connery would be the best choice and he's far too old now, but I think Brosnan or even Dalton could work.
ReplyDelete"wasn't willing to go get it"
ReplyDeleteThis could not possibly be less true, in my opinion. He wasn't a McDonald's All-American. He came to Illinois as a borderline afterthought in a loaded recruiting class. He wasn't a nobody; he was a top 50 recruit that a lot of major programs were interested in, but he was everyone's second choice: UNC was interested until Raymond Felton committed there. Georgia Tech was after him until they got Jarrett Jack. Maryland, until they got John Gilchrist. Even the school he committed to, he was second fiddle behind Dee Brown. Shit, he was second fiddle in high school behind Bracey Wright.
He always had a lot of talent but needed three years of college to remake his body and his game to be an NBA prospect. If Deron "wasn't willing to go get it," he might not have ever been an NBA player, much less a multiple-time All-Star, multiple time All-NBA, Olympian, etc.
Goldeneye had something close, 007 vs 006.
ReplyDeleteYeah but TNA's library at least includes footage of some very modern day stars. Might be worth the cheap price just to have footage for the documentaries on Hardy, Angle, Christian, Sting, the Dudleys, maybe even Hogan and Nash. I doubt WWE cares about showing some old Bound For Glory shows, but the TNA footage contains a lot of useable stuff on their stars.
ReplyDeletePlus if they actually are gonna use Samoa Joe, the TNA footage can also be used in getting him over.
I guess it depends on how much they're being paid and how old they are. If you're a 25 year old guy who WWE doesn't want, get the fuck out of wrestling instead of trying to making a living with TNA. If you're 40 year-old Matt Hardy who WWE doesn't want, use TNA as a semi-steady paycheck (when they actually have the means to pay you) as you do indie dates or something else.
ReplyDeleteIs this predicated on the theory that “James Bond” is an alias, a John
ReplyDeleteDoe style name given to a number of different people who’ve taken the identity?
That's why I mentioned Spike. TNA is just another incompetently run wrestling promotion. Pretty much EVERY wrestling promotion ever eventually ended up poorly run at some point, usually leading to their demise. But to have a national cable network invest in one so long... that's an interesting story.
ReplyDeleteAnd shake his hand after getting hit with a superkick and a sledgehammer.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, for the guys like Angle/Lashley/Hardys it's probably a sweetheart deal. They get paid well for being formerly famous wrestlers, and since WWE isn't gonna pay them then yeah, they should cash those checks until the bitter end.
ReplyDeleteBut the majority of that roster now is just a bunch of brainwashed dummies still telling themselves that TNA is gonna explode and make them rich someday. Once those guys start getting bounced checks on their shitty per date deals, I dunno man it's on them for still being there.
Really? It was 1999, every 16-year old white kid who didn't want to be white was wearing that shit. (I was one of them for a minute there.) So of course Kevin Nash was, too.
