Shawn Michaels collapsing angle on Raw

What was the deal with the whole "Shawn Michaels collapsing" storyline on Raw after the Survivor Series in 1995?  IIRC, it never went anywhere.  I think it was just a thing to build off the real-life Syracuse beating and turn Shawn into a sympathetic babyface, which is of course exactly what people didn't want out ...
