Undertaker vs. Cena

I'll keep it quick.

How about this: Cena merely teases heel turn against Rock.

At WrestleMania XXX, it's Taker vs. Cena. Say, for the title. Cena is the one to end the streak only via the WMX7 ending with the help of, say, COOHHH, who forms an unholy bond because it's "for the business". The duo go on a reign of terror of great magnitude.

...Or, bad idea?

I feel like "Cena heel turn" is getting near the same level of "Rebooking the Invasion" or "Montreal was a work" here on the blog.

Comments

  1. Wrestlemania 30.. Undertaker vs. Tanahashi..

    Book It..

    ReplyDelete
  2. They'll eventually turn Cena heel though. Maybe not today... maybe not tomorrow... but someday...

And then the fine commenters here will bitch about that! And the cycle continues!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Well...he might get forced into retirement first.

I'm not at all wishing ill on the guy, but wrestling is a dangerous business.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Wait, I thought that the InVasion was a work, and that we wanted to rebook Montreal.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Cena turns heel because he beats Undertaker but gets booed out the building for it.

He snaps. Tired of all the smiling goody two shoes crap.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Dear people wanting Cena to turn:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nc_LIR5ExIU

    And that's from the heart.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Who let Meltzer on the blog?

    ReplyDelete
  8. And by Tanahashi you mean Fandango.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Would any of you, in a comfortable, well-paying job, decide to do the same job for less morning but more hours and he condition that you have to make your co-workers hate you?

That's what Cena would have to do. Heels don't win in the WWE as it is, Punk as conclusively beaten by The Rock TWICE. His title reign lasted as long as it did so that he could lose to Rock. You think Cena would fare much better?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I think he meant Yoshi Tatsu.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Punk visually pinned Rock a couple times and was announced the winner in their first match. I'd hardly say that's conclusively. Especially considering most people thought it would end with a Rock Bottom clean.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Don't turn cena heel, just don't let him win every match, and get him of tv with an injury angle for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  13. ...Where did that come from!?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well that's true of *anybody* really.

    So I'll rephrase

Barring catastrophic injury, they will turn Cena someday.

And the commenters here (and on other boards) will bitch about it. And the world will keep turnin'.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Cena dosen't need to turn heel. He just needs to develop more of an edge, show a bit of vulnerability, and be used a bit more sparingly.
At any rate, the longed-for heel turn has been bulit up so much by BOD'ers that there's just NO WAY it would come close to expectations.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Since you mention it Scott, I haven't seen a "Montreal was a work" discussion here for a while....maybe you can breathe a bit easier.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Threadjack: X-pac ripped his anus apart. DISCUSS.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Two losses in a row, first one came after a spinebuster and a People's elbow, couldn't beat Rock with help from The Shield. I'd say that's pretty conclusive. Also note Punk didn't even get the 'swerve' win at Rumble... he lost clean to Rock twice in a row!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yup, the current chorus of "they need to turn John Cena heel" will inevitably be followed by "well they shouldn't have turned John Cena heel like THAT".

As sure as the sky is blue.

    ReplyDelete
  20. cena turns heel = cena turns face.

    nothing changes.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I actually think he should have turned heel back in 06' at the first sign of backlash from the fans. He started getting heavily booed around the time Edge won the belt, and even at WM 22 vs. Triple H.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I disagree, people HATE Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  23. But they didn't do it soon enough! And with the right program! And there's no faces for him to feud with now! etc...

    ReplyDelete
  24. I genuinely believe that while almost everyone involved would be ok with a work angle resulting in the exact outcome...the one person who would not be ok with was Bret. (AM I DOIN IT RITE? ARE WE TALKING ABOUT IT YET??!)

    ReplyDelete
  25. don't jinx it!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I will say if he turned heel then the smug smile and jokes would be make sense since he's deliberately trying to piss people off.

    ReplyDelete
  27. and once he turns, the grown ups are gonna pop for it.

then he comes out with heel cena gear thats edgy... the smarks are gonna buy to be hip and cool...

you dont get it... cena is a heel already. People pay to see him lose.

when was the last time he was the "face" in his matchups?

    Edge? 06?
    Batista in 2010?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Btw, you know they're going to call it WresteMania 30, or 3X, or whatever...no way they're going to allow all the inevitable XXX porn jokes, comparisons, & references slide.

And Undertaker will beat Cena in a regular match with a handshake after and retire the next night on RAW. That's all.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't think creative has the juice to do anything cool with Cena if they did turn him heel.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nobody wants to see Cena vs. Undertaker. There's only one match that deserves to main event WrestleMania XXX. A match that's over a decade in the making... Bret Hart vs. El Dandy. One would think Bret's Sharpshooter would be too much to overcome. But honestly, who are we to doubt El Dandy?

    ReplyDelete
  31. He still works face, does the comeback, hits all the face spots, etc. The whole Cena thing is just weird and strange.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't want him to turn so his character will change, I want him to turn so he will be booked as the asshole who loses in the end. I can tolerate him, maybe even enjoy him, but he's not the guy I want to cheer for.

    ReplyDelete
  33. As far as I'm concerned, it'd be a real jam up match.

    ReplyDelete
  34. While we're at it, you know who else got a raw deal? Lex Luger! Has anyone on this blog ever pondered the potentially infinite alternate paths the Total Package's career might have taken?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Such language, Joseph Park.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You are correct. the inVasion was a work. They weren't invading at all.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You may want to edit your first paragraph because I have no fucking idea what you're trying to say and what it has to do with a Cena heel turn.

    ReplyDelete
  38. He should have been part of the InVasion.

    ReplyDelete
  39. CM Punk should show up at Mania in the Superfly trunks

    ReplyDelete
  40. Love me some Bullsh!t.

    ReplyDelete
  41. When there are people on THIS BLOG that don't know who the guy is... it's not a good idea... and yes, even Fandango would be better.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Didn't they unveil a Wrestlemania 30 logo in New Orleans?

    ReplyDelete
  43. He did beat the Rock with help from the Shield. Vince came out and restarted the match.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Cena as a heel = Punk taking a step backward in the pecking order. I'm not ok with that. Cena needs some image freshening, bad, but a heel turn fucks things up for lots of other people. I'd be interested to see what they do with it but they need to wait until the time is better and they have other strong faces on top. Sheamus and Ryback cannot carry the company.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh god, worlds are colliding!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I remember this too, and yeah, it had the X's on it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. The funny thing is that if WWE turned Cena heel, it would get a gigantic face pop and he would be super over with all the fans who've been booing him for years.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Cena has been something of a superman as far as injury recovery and durability go. This is true of ALL wrestlers, but may be less applicable to him.

    ReplyDelete
  49. That's teh big difference from the Montreal and Invasion thing. Those two are over and cant' be changed. SOMEDAY Cena will turn so the topic has a tiny tiny tiny tiny bit of relevance. But it's certainly not worth the attention it's given.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Speaking of the Invasion, I had a thought the other day they should have done it back in January 2000. Book the Radicalz as heels coming from WCW to invade, leading to a WM 4v4 match that has Jericho turning and joining them as the leader. Go from there.

    ReplyDelete
  51. lol. I'd love to see the BoD response to a modern retelling of NWO with Cena as the leader. Some people would bitch no matter how great it was told.

But, yeah, the success of Hogan's turn was a true instance of catching lightning in a bottle. By comparison, whatever happens with Cena it will be a relative letdown. that being said, the guy can work well as a heel so once the initial disappointment wears off he'll probably have a pretty good run.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Is there a "WWE XXX - the Parody" film from Vivid yet? If not, I bet there will be within 12 months.

Turning Cena heel should coincide with turning Punk back into a face. Those are two guys who should just always be on opposite sides of one another.

Now IF the Cena turn did happen at Mania, they could just turn Punk at the June PPV in Chicago. Cena turns heel at Mania, Punk loses to Taker but finally shows some respect, whatever that means. Punk goes away for 2 months, and returns to a massive pop to save someone from a Cena beatdown in Chicago. Boom, instant megafeud.

As for Sheamus and Ryback not being ready, I'd argue that if Cena gets over huge as a heel, which he would, anyone opposing him would get insane face pops. I mean, look at how over Ryback got when they put him up against Punk in the Fall. It's like the nWo situation——— any face who fought them (Sting, Luger, DDP) became 10x bigger stars just because people hated the heels so much. So a heel Cena would equal much more over Sheamus & Ryback (and Bryan and hell, Kofi Kingston if they went that way.)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Worst_in_the_WorldMarch 28, 2013 at 8:30 AM

I dunno man, I've seen people say this before and I just don't agree. The people who hate Cena REALLY hate him, and want to boo him, and want to finally take pleasure in watching everyone boo him. It's like when Hogan turned--- sure, Hall & Nash got some "cool heel" type of face pops, but Hogan never did because people were just so incredibly sick of him. They've got a decade worth of adults feeling "Goddamn I'm sick of this smirking, unfunny asshole" towards Cena, and I don't see that just going away when Cena debuts his cool heel leather jacket or whatever.

Adult fans continuing to cheer a heel Punk makes sense, because those fans still feel a connection to his personality and story or whatever. But the adult fans who hate Cena wouldn't feel the same way towards him.

So yeah, whenever it happens, I would be shocked if Cena starts getting cool heel cheers from the adults. I'd wager it'd be really easy for him to keep getting hate from the haters.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I want Cena to be booked as a heel, not have a "heel turn". Heel turn using implies a character change, I just want Cena to be in the heel role in feuds. Keep the character, generates too much heel heat to give up on.

    ReplyDelete
  56. EL DANDY TONY! HE GOT FUNKY LIKE A MONKEY WITH THAT DOUBLE FLIPEROO!

    ReplyDelete
  57. The Cena turn is happening this year, I CAN FEEL IT

    ReplyDelete
  58. Cena turning heel would require a character change. Cena currently still does "the comeback", all the "hope spots" and high impact face moves. That would have to change drastically so his opponents could get face heat. Cena matches are like Hogan - Rock over and over again, it was cool for Hogan - Rock, otherwise it has gotten very old.

    ReplyDelete
  59. This, I agree X10, Cena would get booed out of the building, a lot of people hate "wiggers" Cena's character is stuck in 1999. He's like a wrestling version of Fred Durst. (I don't hate Durst BTW) Cena would get insane heel heat and maybe turn into a cool heel after a while, which the E desperately needs.

  62. I bet it is still the top news story in Waltman's life... just saying...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Cena should stay babyface because he's better at it then punk and punk should stay heel because he's the best one since flair.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Wrong.

If Cena was good as a babyface, he'd be unanimously cheered. Punk was better at it than Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Punk was terrible: "HEY JERICHO, I PASSED MY BREATHALYZER!!!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  66. That's why you don't change anything. You just have the announcers finally point out what a hypocrite he really is.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Worst_in_the_WorldMarch 28, 2013 at 9:15 AM

On the surface, Cena seems like a perfect babyface and Punk a perfect heel. But if more than half of every crowd, in every town, is booing Cena (which is what is happening the last year or two. It's not just a smark city thing or even 50/50 anymore), and Punk is still getting "knees to faces" chants against The Rock——— well, doesn't it make sense to give the people what they want? Hulk Hogan was a great face. Stone Cold was a great face. Rock in 2000 was a great face. Why? Because they got unanimous positive reactions from the fans. Cena gets nowhere near that, and it's only getting worse.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I don't like Cena, but that's a horrible thing for X-Pac to do another person, even one as overbearing as Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Worst_in_the_WorldMarch 28, 2013 at 9:17 AM

Totally. Just imagine if Cena cheated to beat The Rock, and the next night still came out smirking and talking to the cameraman on the ramp and just plain acting goofy and delusional, but then had Ryback/Sheamus etc calling him out on it. He'd have nuclear heel heat.

    ReplyDelete
  70. That was just a stupid angle all together. Heel Punk would be lucky to be in the 4 Horsemen let alone be comparable to Flair.

    ReplyDelete
  71. No, he wasn't. He got unanimously cheered by men, women, and children, even with the goofy material he was given.

And for the record, the breathalyzer was awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Worst_in_the_WorldMarch 28, 2013 at 9:21 AM

Well it all comes down to how they mistakenly book faces. If Cena was a heel and Punk was booked as an angry pissed off face, it'd be awesome.

And aside from that, the thing is: face Punk was getting unanimous positive reactions from the crowds. Adults, kids, smarks, casuals-- everyone. Dude was over, and that's despite being booked in the second tier feuds the whole time. So something was obviously working.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Heel Punk is great, but he didn't fit the Horsemen mantra (party all night)/gimmick. However, his talking and wrestling skills fit perfectly within that faction.

    ReplyDelete
  74. But you see, most people are saying "Cena needs to turn" not Cena needs to go away. In 96 EVERYONE hated Hogan. You said it yourself, the adults are sick of the smirking unfunny asshole version of Cena, not whatever the heel character would end up being....unless they went meta all-in with it and had him be the SAME character, only have him do it as a heel. THAT might work to turn everyone. But if he went heel and started cutting heel promos and feuded with faces like Sheamus and Ryback, he'd absolutely be beloved by the smarks. Because when you look past the poop jokes and Fruity Pebbles t-shirts, he's actually a really good worker who deserves a ton of respect.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I guess there's only room for your opinion, huh? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  76. He's not really like that. It's all a show for the camera. He's just kayfabbing ya.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Depends on how it's booked - if he's a badass, in-your-face, cool, edgy mauler, he'll be cheered, but if he's a cowardly, ass-kissing, corporate-line-spewing suit, he'll be booed.

    ReplyDelete
  78. NOBODY is the anything-version of Fred Durst.

There is only one Fred Durst.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Hogan's turn was just unfathomable. It still kind of stuns me when I think back to that era.

    ReplyDelete
  80. If Cena ever turns heel, there's no better time than while facing Taker at "WM". No question about it.

That said, I don't like the idea of Trips being a part of it. Cena cheating to end The Streak is pretty much THE most heel-ish thing anybody could do, adding another layer on top is completely unneeded. And it'd be just another example of Trips being unnecessarily added to something.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Didn't Hogan use the Hulk-Up or his normal routine a couple of times during his first matches as a heel? I think it took him some time to get a handle on it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. My mind naturally went here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3afZip4BTRc

    ReplyDelete
  83. He played a heel on Monday night for the most part. He got booed. Just turning him won't get guys to suddenly like him. If he starts acting like the anti-authority rapping douche he was in the mid '00s, then maybe, because there was a level of cool there. But if they keep him the delusional "no one can beat me, I beat myself" uber-jock he played on Monday, he won't get cheered.

The thing about Cena is that he's the guy most men resent. He's attractive, successful, rich, good with women, seemingly has had no real challenges to overcome, and he knows it. He knows he's better than everybody else. He shows it in how he carries himself, laughing off losses like they don't matter. He's the star high school quarterback who can lose the big game but still fuck the prom queen AND get a full scholarship to an Ivy League, because for him there are no consequences to his bad decisions or mistakes as a character. Most guys can't respect that. They lean in to a character like Punk because he falls more into the mold of a common man facing adversity, something most guys can relate to. Punk even looks like a guy who walked in off the street. WWE has their entire worldview skewed because Vince can't identify with over half his audience. Cena is the type of guy Vince envisions himself to be, so he stubbornly pushes the guy. Seriously though, when have super rich playboys ever been successful faces, outside of Rock and Flair, two guys with enough charisma to overcome that obstacle? Almost never. Characters like John were traditionally heels. The superman, clean living aspect has always seemed disingenuous to me, tacked on to make him more appealing to a wider audience when he clearly would rather revel in how awesome he is.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Cena needs a vacation. One of the reasons Taker has been over for so many years is because whenever he's looking a bit stale, he takes a few months off and comes back with more heat than ever. Even HHH has never been as over since he became a part-timer because when he shows up on TV after months away, it feels like a big deal.

But Cena is ALWAYS around. Even when he doesn't make it on TV, his presence is felt. A good four-to-six months away would help him, give some much-needed TV time to underutilized talent and force creative not to rely on Cena so much/think out of the box.

    ReplyDelete
  85. This isn't true. Go back and watch old WCW shows. Hogan still drew pops from the kids throughout the early half of '96. He was getting exactly the type of reaction Cena gets today. He'd get booed when confronting guys like Savage and Sting, but cheered against the Dungeon and whatever other middling heels he was running through at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Yeah, that's what I meant by book him as a heel. Have him cut the same pandering promos and hypocritical motivations, but in his matches instead of being superman "he overcomes the odds" by cheating.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I'd agree that if Cena cheats to beat Taker (or even Rock this year), he should do it himself and get all the heat. BUT, as much as it is a situation of HHH glomming onto a hot angle, I do like the idea of a heel HHH aligned with heel Cena. He'd make so much sense as the Mr. McMahon to Cena's corporate champion. Plus, HHH as a heel works so much better than his smarmy babyface character.

    ReplyDelete
  88. If he had lost to Brock Lesnar, gone away for that summer, and returned for Summerslam, it would've revitalized him, for a while anyway. He would've lost to the Rock, lost to Brock and then lost his wife. He could've gone away and doubted himself. He could overcome Brock at Summerslam and then from there on whatever.

I think the guy likes what he does so much he can't bring himself to go away for even a short while. The whole Nexus firing thing could've been drawn out to the Royal Rumble, instead he NEVER goes away.

One of the things I miss a lot from the Attitude Era and prior, is the odd week when a top star wouldn't be there. Even though Austin and the Rock were on most weeks, some weeks they weren't and when they were, they were built up by having shots of them arriving at the arena. It just felt a lot more like a "big deal" that they were there that night.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Very true, and it was very city dependent too. He'd go the Florida and the crowds would love him, but then he'd go to Norfolk and he'd get skewered.

I actually think that the writing was sort of on the wall though when he went to Chicago for that 1995 Nitro and the crowd absolutely hated him. He at least had stayed over as a face in big pro-WWF towns to that point. They tried to brush it off as the crowd being upset that he was wearing black, but you can tell he's hurt by it.

If you want to see an entire company working as hard as they possibly can to make sure Hogan came off as a face on TV when most people in the arena hate his guts, watch World War 3 1995 (up until the finish of the main event at least). Jimmy Hart and Kevin Sullivan are constantly trying to start "Hogan" chants during the Giant's interview, Sting and Savage accompany Hogan out for his interview at the start of the show and are in the background during trying to get some face pops for Hogan the second they hear any boos start raining down on him, and they purposely stick Hogan as the last member of the WWIII line-up, right after Flair who along with Sting was the most over person at the arena that night. The whole thing is quite the spectacle in desperation.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Cena will turn heel the day after 'Detox' and 'Chinese Democracy' come out.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Yeah, it's funny the Flair matches always seemed to bring it out of him. I think he did it at Hog Wild against the Giant, but then he did it again during that match with Flair at the COTC. I don't think he did it again after that until his match with Flair at SuperBrawl 9.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Chinese Democracy came out several years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  93. You would need someone that criticized him the entire time. That is why it was so effective when Hogan turned. His biggest detractor (Heenan) was there to say, 'I told you so.'

    ReplyDelete
  94. He should have left Chyna alone.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I remain astonished how much that CD grew on me. I listen to it all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Punk? The guy needs some time off. Put back him back in the commentary booth for a few months while he recovers.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Punk and Rock are perfect for that.

Both have called Cena "phony" in their promos. Rock even called out how full of crap Cena was on Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  98. You can't see me

*does cena hand over face wave*

    ReplyDelete
  99. They are so bad at booking faces that I wouldn't be surprised to hear punk would rather work heel anyways

    ReplyDelete
  100. Oh, hai, Tommy. So, I guess you would say, "You're tearing me apart, Cena!"

Sorry, I just saw "The Room" recently.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Yeah, I listened the shit out of it when it came out. Doesn't have the memorable riffs, but was a darn good album imo.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Kudos on becoming a mod, and somehow being unable to read.

If Cena became heel, he'd earn less money in a role he hasn't done for a decade. He'd be booked down the card because the WWE doesn't do strong heels, and he'd lose his sponsorship deals and likely do less make a wish trips.

But he'd hae to wrestle the same amount. So he'd earn less for the same job. Yeah, turn him heel. Genius!

    ReplyDelete
  103. So Punk's not just portrayed as beneath The Rock, but so stupid that he relies on outside interference so much that Vince steps in to force the match to continue?

    ReplyDelete
  104. I can read just fine, however, what you typed was jumble-rriffic. Thanks for clearing it up. As for what you're saying, if you think Cena turning heel would net him less money and "be booked down the card", you know very little about wrestling. Remember Steve Austin? Remember Hulk Hogan? When the biggest star in the company turns heel, they do not get de-pushed and "earn less money"...genius.

    ReplyDelete
  105. You said Punk couldn't beat Rock without help from the Shield; I'm pointing out he did. Punk was announced the winner! And actually, no one really saw what happened so maybe Punk did win cleanly and Vince just ripped him off. Nonetheless, Punk did pin Rock, then the match was restarted.

    ReplyDelete
  106. This is actually not the worst storyline. You have HHH supporting Cena because he's such a company man, AND he failed at putting UT away himself. HHH says UT needed to step aside because of "THIS BUSINESS" and he wouldn't do it, so he made him. Then you have Punk turn face because he's basically been right about everything since 2011.

    ReplyDelete
  107. They could probably do that this year when the crowd shits all over him beating Rocky.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Jesus, you want Punk back as a neutered face AND have him off my TV for two months? Remind me not to hire you to do my fantasy booking.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I'm actually digging the new track Weezy.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I thought Better was a fantastic track.

    ReplyDelete
  111. A reign of terror of great magnitude would cause a huge... POP POP!

(What, am I the only one here who watches Community?)

    ReplyDelete
  112. It's really the only big angle WWE hasn't done, I think it's very worthy of conversation.

    ReplyDelete
  113. No, I will not watch World War 3 95.

    ReplyDelete
  114. They had a Super Bowl XXX, I can imagine them doing a WrestleMania XXX.

    ReplyDelete
  115. What's not to understand?

    Don't you want less morning?

    ReplyDelete
  116. I think it's McMahon that can bear to see Cena leave. All of the established stars should be on RAW far less than what they are now. They don't need it and it makes it more special when they show up.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Worst_in_the_WorldMarch 28, 2013 at 1:38 PM

Wait, you're hiring to do fantasy booking???

OK, so as far as Punk being off TV for a bit after Mania, I think all the signs are just pointing to that as what's gonna happen. The dude is ridiculously injured right now, and has performed a non-stop schedule despite wanting time off since MITB '11. I think it's pretty clear he's getting his ass destroyed by Taker at Mania, like "Edge getting Last Rided through the ring into hell" type of deal, and going away for a bit. (Not saying I WANT to see him getting destroyed by Taker, but that's pretty much the point of this feud.)

Plus, I do think booking-wise Punk could use some time off TV. I mean, after Mania he'll be coming off 3 straight high profile PPV losses to Rock and Taker, PLUS he lost the big one on Raw to Cena. And that's coming off a the last few months of a heel run in which he was booked as a pinball for Ryback. The character needs a little recharge before he can come back out with the "best in the world" schtick without it seeming foolish. I mean, do you think he loses to Taker, and just comes out the next night and starts his next feud?

Lastly, my whole thing with turning Punk face is that he CAN be an awesome, kick-ass Stone Cold-esque face if WWE booked things that way. Sure it's fun to watch Punk heel it up, but to me it's ultimately unsatisfying when the most interesting person on the show constantly is booked to run away and get beat. WWE needs to figure out how to book a lead face who is as interesting as the heel characters, and I still think Punk is the guy who can pull that off. Again, if WWE got behind letting a face act like Stone Cold rather than a Cena-clone.

  118. ...but 'Detox' didn't.

  119. I guess my downvote isn't fair, since I haven't heard said song and don't know what a "Weezy" is. I just despise the dipshit Durst.

  120. It almost feels like Taker v Cena at WM30 has been in the books for years now. Idk, I still feel its gonna be the match

  121. Weezy = Lil Wayne

  122. Know how you do a Cena heel turn? Change absolutely nothing about him, except focus his attacks on faces and amp up the sarcastic smirks. I want the return of Superman Cena -- basically, take advantage of everything smarks hate about him while also alienating the kids. No cowardly heel running away, no "you don't deserve an explanation." I want him tapping guys out clean to the STF for a year. I want him cutting pandering, obviously sarcastic promos. Amp up the cheese. Build him up as unbeatable for a year, and then do Taker-Cena. Now there's an intriguing matchup, to me.

Or keep Cena face and put him over everyone, I guess.

  123. Axl's Dracula voice is so bad, dude.

  124. That only slightly helps me.

  125. They'll turn him eventually. Implies that they at one point will get the chance to turn him heel.

    It's not a certainty. Just...highly, highly probable.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Actually...that might be bad for long-term career longevity.

I mean, just because you can come back from an injury in half the time doesn't mean you should come back from an injury in half the time.

  127. Yeah I get you as far as a face Punk but I just. Think he is at his best as a heel. Making people like him doesn't come to Punk naturally, i'd bet; most people who like him are the ones who like him on merit and not due to him pushing for it. And being a face involves making people like you. As for him taking time off, you may be right, and it'd probably be better for him in the long run, but Raw without Punk is a dire proposition. Unless that meant more time for Dean Ambrose to establish himself as a top heel.... now I don't know what I want.

  128. Punk's leaving post-mania.

    Nagging injuries and such.

Any top guy returns and they'll be a face...at least for a little while.

  129. Lil Wayne and Fred Durst? Can the universe handle that much douche on one track.

  130. As I said, I don't think its the right time for a Cena heel turn. BUT, when he does it, there's a question of what to do with his character. Obviously part of the problem is that the current thing is stale, but you can't just change everything and say "now he's like THIS!" And expect people to forget the last decade. So a white hi hop influenced guy who everyone hates, that acts like a douchey fratboy: think LMFAO, think James Franco in Spring Breakers, think that Macklemore dweeb. Basically Cena needs to be a "swag bro". Acting arrogant and pervy while still doing all the goofy poop joke stuff everyone hates, and wearing ridiculous looking neon stuff and excessive cheapo bling. Turn Ryder heel and have him be his douchebag buddy like in Entourage. Have Skrillex or Borgore do a dubstep remix of his theme song. You still basically get the essence of Cena but in an unrespectable package.

  132. I'm just guessing but I'd imagine the awareness level for Japanese wrestling in the US is obviously below WWE/TNA/ROH and even most large independents probably have a stronger following. It's not like the 90's where WCW and ECW were showcasing Japanese talent on a regular basis.

  133. Dubstep remix... friggin' brilliant.

  134. Yeah, either he's burning the candle at both ends or he has a mutant healing factor. I'm not sure which at this point.

  135. My guess is secret government project. It was him and Michael Phelps.

  136. I dig it. Had a similar thought in 2000 when they had Jericho, Big Show, and the Radicalz all on board. But could they have used "WCW" at that point? The company hadn't been put down completely yet

  137. Totally agree. A losing streak angle could have worked where Cena loses those high-profile matches back to back, then takes a sabbatical. Avenges the loss to Lesnar, goes after Punk's title, gets his win back from Rock. Go from there.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I would say Cena vs. Taker is their biggest ace-in-the-hole "dream match" remaining, outside of Austin returning. I don't get why Brock vs. Taker or Brock vs. Rock is considered such a big deal. Both have happened before, and Lesnar-Taker happened several times.
