So at HIAC 2013, Bryan main events, gets screwed and is thrown into an out of nowhere feud with Bray Wyatt for 3 months while Cena vs. Authority (Orton) dominated the main events until a surprising big man (Batista) returns to win Rumble and the crowd totally shit on it.
Fast forward a year, plucky Indy darling Dean is the obvious crowd favorite, main events HIAC, and instantly gets tossed down the card into meaningless feud with... Bray Wyatt while the main event storyline is Cena vs Authority and a surprising big man returns (Reigns) to win Rumble.
They're gonna run into the same damn problems as last year. Do you see any way Dean pulls a Bryan or was that such a natural organic thing? It just seems that Reigns is being forced on the fans and that usually gets a backlash.
They're gonna run into the same damn problems as last year. Do you see any way Dean pulls a Bryan or was that such a natural organic thing? It just seems that Reigns is being forced on the fans and that usually gets a backlash.
Well, Reigns does sell merch and people seem to like him so it's not likely going to be a case like with Batista. Batista was transparently someone coming back for the part-time payday to promote his movie and fans were clearly resentful of that. The issue with Reigns is that WWE just isn't very good at spotting who the top talent is going to be, especially at that stage in their career. They got Cena right (after nearly cutting him in 2002) but it took 3 years for him to get the big belt, and rightly so. But for example, back in 2004 they decided that Randy Orton was gonna be their next big star and that went horribly wrong. And now there's no competition for them to raid, so anyone who they don't deem to be a top prospect is just leaving the business rather than going somewhere else to develop into a star.
So I'd say that Reigns COULD be a big star, but their track record doesn't say so and it's way early anyway.
Is Dean Ambrose really THAT over? I mean, Daniel Bryan's pops were incredible, to the point they were overshadowing everything else on the show. I don't think Ambrose is there yet.
ReplyDeleteI want new blood in the main event scene as much as anyone but I don't mind Dean building up his singles career a bit more and get more solid support behind him.
I don't think it's a far comparison at all, honestly. So many people seem so sure that Reigns is gonna get booed out of the building at WM 31. Maybe, but I'm not really seeing this huge backlash towards him, like there clearly was last year for Batista.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I recall, he was getting pops, and then they turned him into the Hamburgler and it lost all traction. I don't watch anymore at all, but I seem to remember the beginning of the end.
ReplyDeleteUpvote just for the Hamburgler reference.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm not too hot on Ambrose anymore, either after the stupid antics like the hot dog cart and that Halloween match with Cesaro.
Ambrose is over but not Bryan over. If Dean got jobbed out, like Zig did, I feel the casual fans would kinda forget about him. With Bryan, not a single fan was gonna let Hunter forget about him.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Mark Henry got punished for raising Daniel Bryan's arm during that in-ring segment where the fans hijacked the crowd from HHH.
ReplyDeleteMark did become Brock's punching bag and jobbed some more before his last injury hiatus.
I think it also depends on if Bryan is back by then. If Bryan's around, then I expect the fans to denounce anyone else getting the big WM push, but if he's still on the shelf, then I think that the audience will be much more accepting of Reigns as "best alternative".
ReplyDeleteI am an American man, and I have decided to boycott American women. In a nutshell, American women are the most likely to cheat on you, to divorce you, to get fat, to steal half of your money in the divorce courts, don’t know how to cook or clean, don’t want to have children, etc. Therefore, what intelligent man would want to get involved with American women?
ReplyDeleteAmerican women are generally immature, selfish, extremely arrogant and self-centered, mentally unstable, irresponsible, and highly unchaste. The behavior of most American women is utterly disgusting, to say the least.
This blog is my attempt to explain why I feel American women are inferior to foreign women (non-American women), and why American men should boycott American women, and date/marry only foreign (non-American) women.
BOYCOTT AMERICAN WOMEN!

Just got a chance to watch this one. No comments? :( I'll drop in and say hi. Thanks for the writeup Matt! I thought the Main Event was more than a DUD. If anything, Sin Cara got in too much offense. Guess it doesn't really matter though. Haha. Tyson vs Sami was such a tease. But it's Main Event, so even if they had a classic, nobody would see it anyway.
ReplyDeleteNot even close to being as over as Bryan.
ReplyDeletelolwut
ReplyDeleteGood news for Reigns is even if he follows the Orton model and flops in his first run, he can still hang around doing the same boring match for ten years.
ReplyDeleteYeah this one is . . . odd.
ReplyDeleteNOT IMPRESSED with American women! Russian women are the best, obviously.
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA at Ambrose being compared to Daniel Bryan. I'd say Santino is a more accurate comp.
ReplyDeleteAlso, read the recap of Raw last night and good God... what's even the hook to watching these shows anymore? The main event angle is John Cena vs HHH & Stephanie in two-thousand and fucking fourteen. That's just insane.
ReplyDeleteAnd Stephanie dressed down Lana and Rusev, cutting the balls off a heel act that could theoretically make them some money? Amazing. Is she actually mentally ill or something? Does she know that nobody in real life will respect her more because she fake yelled at an employee?
I disagree on both counts:
ReplyDelete1) As much as the IWC likes to whine about Bryan being buried, WWE was behind Bryan as an important player since 2011. There were ebbs and flows like everyone but the very top guys get, but they still had significant plans for him. Can't say the same for Ambrose, I think he's the guy along for the ride with Reigns and was a mouthpiece to help him for a while. Plus, Ambrose isn't nearly the same level of performer in many ways.
2) I'm as down on Reigns as anyone, but he's over. Smark crowds like Philly at Rumble may shit on him, but otherwise he'll be fine. Kids buy him. Girls love him. He can have the same dull singles matches for years, if WWE wants to stay behind him, he'll be $$$ for them.
She's grown up in the bizarre world of the traveling carnies. Who knows how twisted and perverse her thought process is.
ReplyDeleteNo and he's less over now than he ever has been anyways. Ambrose is dead roster weight that does nothing for me.
ReplyDeleteI can't stand Reigns at all and Ambrose is an embarrassment right now. I'd say their singles work is so putrid its tainting the legacy of the shield. I'd rather see them both just go away.
ReplyDeleteYeah it's definitely made her into an actual crazy person-slash-moron. But really at this point they should just book her as a main event wrestler having singles matches against Cena and shit. Otherwise what's the fucking point of presenting her as the ultimate bad ass.
ReplyDeleteUnreal that they're losing money hand over fist right now, and HHH/Steph's booking response is to continue to use their TV to stroke their own egos as priority #1. It's true, for all the bitching we do about Vince, HHH/Stephanie taking over will absolutely tank the place. Vince may have lost any sense of what the audience wants, but Steph/HHH are just deranged.
I agree, I don't think there's a massive backlash yet, the key is when he comes back, will he be better in the ring, will the writers give him dialogue that's NOT God-awful, and will the fans perceive Dean Ambrose as more deserving of that spot (or a returning Daniel Bryan). I think those will be the biggest factors to determine how much crowd support he will have.
ReplyDeleteThis Daniel Bryan comparison is such an incredible reach. Bryan was having the best matches, most engaging segments, and had the most over entrance/catchphrase for two years straight.
ReplyDeleteAmbrose is a midcarder who jobs every big match and does Disney Channel pranks. He's Santino without the comedic timing.
I really really don't think fans see Dean Ambrose in that way at all. He's a midcarder who loses all his semi-important matches and does a lot of prop comedy. The majority of the fans don't see him as deserving of being world champ at all.
ReplyDeleteThey should put them together as a tag team with the Funkadactyls and give them the Tons of Funk gimmick.
ReplyDeleteReigns dancing is money. BEE-LEE DAT!!!
ReplyDeleteI think you're selling him a little bit short IMO. Next to Randy Orton, he's their next most over face they have (that's active at the moment). Now with that being said, the WWE may have successfully cooled him off after his Seth Rollins feud and going to Bray Wyatt, so his fan reactions have diminished since then, but towards the end of the feud with Rollins, I think the fans definitely bought him.
ReplyDeleteAs laughable as the thread topic is (Dean Ambrose becoming this year's Daniel Bryan?? HAHAHAHAHAHA ok), I think the better question is whether Dean even gets on the Mania card this year? I mean yeah there's the battle royal, but I really don't see him getting a singles match.
ReplyDeleteYou figure that Roman, Cena, Randy Orton are all guaranteed singles matches as babyfaces. Then Sting almost definitely, and Daniel Bryan if he's back, and possibly Rock or Taker if they get either. (Which they'll probably have to, because really are you selling Mania on Roman fucking Reigns?)
So that's 4-7 babyfaces ahead of him, plus they need room for a Divas match and a celeb match and a tag match and the battle royal.
So the question isn't whether Dean gets a Mania title match, it's whether him and the other midcarders get to have their battle royal on the PPV or the pre-show.
Beating Seth at HiaC would have gotten him way more over.
ReplyDeleteBut losing that match to a hologram made him look like a complete joke. Fans don't back babyfaces who come off as complete failures, especially when they have zero history of success to fall back on.
Plus he's become a goofy comedy character and he's in a currently heatless feud that he's also gonna lose (and deservedly so based on his current work), so I'd say he's a standard midcarder at this point.
The Steph thing is out of control. That segment recently where she basically towered over AJ, Paige and Bella and made them all out to be these stupid children rather than the strong, fighting women they're supposed to be was pretty terrible. I know it's only the divas division but still.
ReplyDeleteShe's never going to get any serious storyline comeuppance, and I certainly don't want the cheap 90s shit of Dixie Carter getting table slammed in WWE. So she just needs to go away. She's a good performer, but she is being used for nothing that isn't damaging.
Ambrose needs a proper catchphrase or chant. Get Basscase on the case!
ReplyDeleteFor a guy that hot, he seems to have a lot of insecure hangups.
ReplyDeleteWhich makes the whole decision not to have a proper blowoff to the Dean/Seth feud all the more crazy. I understand wanting to protect Seth Rollins, but their feud was one that SCREAMED, the face destroys the smarmy heel in the end. I think Seth's over enough (and his character suggests) that he can survive a "loss" in a feud because he's delusional and can shake it off (not to mention having the backing of the Authority).
ReplyDeleteDean needed to win more because that "was" his sole focus, getting revenge on Seth for breaking up the Shield. I just get a little irritated everytime I think about how that played out.
There's no other defense for booking Steph/HHH segments in this manner other than them saying "I want to do this." Their business is tanking, they're losing money left and right, and rather than trying to book a show that people would want to watch they instead just book segments to demean their roster (the ones that could MAKE THEM MONEY) to I guess make themselves feel better? By... being fake tough on TV to your employees? Jesus Christ.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, if you wanna book like this, then just put the world title on HHH and have Steph wrestle Cena and Reigns in singles matches where she's portrayed as their equal. It's the only way this makes sense.
Nah I don't like white women, Asian and African women are my favorite. Indian too.
ReplyDeleteI think it comes down to Ambrose is pretty low on their priority list, and they didn't give half a fuck whether he left that feud more or less over.
ReplyDeleteThe priority babyfaces are Cena and Orton and Roman, and those are gonna be the guys who get to beat Rollins.
Guarantee that Rollins is being kept strong just so he can be Roman and Randy's job boy in the months leading up to Mania.
I obviously don't have the same feelings about Dean as you do lol, but here's a question which I think helps further the debate, do you think Dean is responsible/the driving force behind these angles? Part of me think he did fairly well at taking crappy prop comedy and making it somewhat interesting (like the Ice bucket challenge promo with Rollins as an example), so now the writers believe he can do anything like that?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think Dean's face character, and the Macho Man Randy Savage's face character are fairly similar, both played insane, crazy faces VERY well, but because we are in the PG era, they have to take the silliness to the next level, when they don't really have to do that. I think Dean will have a match at Wrestlemania, maybe they stretch this Wyatt feud out until then, but I think Dean is being a team player at trying to make this crap into something watchable.
Whether it's completely the writers creating these segments for him or whether Ambrose himself has some input, from my POV the shit he's involved in has become so bad that I can't stand him as a TV character and (not just because of his segments, as the whole show has fallen off a cliff) I have lost interest in watching at all. So basically--- who cares whose "fault" it is, his work absolutely blows right now so I'm beyond worrying about who to "blame."
ReplyDeleteAnd again, I don't see where a comedy midcarder fits into a singles match at Mania. There's 3-4 regular babyfaces firmly ahead of him (not counting Sheamus or Ziggler even), plus they're gonna have to overpay some part-timers to sell this show since the everyday roster is such a disaster right now.
Ryback will be a more over babyface than Dean Ambrose by Mania 31. Not saying Ryback's gonna be a big star, but he'll be above doing slime pranks.
ReplyDeleteMulkeymania is running wild! Mulkeymania is running wild!
ReplyDeletelol ur the best
ReplyDeleteI like Dean a lot and think he has a lot of untapped potential, but Daniel Bryan was 'next level' over with the live crowds, and whenever he's able to come back, I think he'll be just as over as he was before. In a perfect world, he gets a surprise comeback at the Rumble as an acknowledgment of last year's fuckup.
ReplyDeleteI see Reigns getting into the same weird space that Cena occupies: people 'know' that he's the WWE's guy, he's their pick to be a big star, yet they have to play it on TV as he's fighting the system (because that's apparently the only angle they can run), and it creates a weird cognitive dissonance where fans don't buy it because it feels fake, like Cena fighting against HHH.
Bryan fighting the system felt organic because he wasn't pegged from day one to be 'the guy,' and in fact got saddled with some ridiculous stuff like anger management with Kane. Ironically, he made that shit work and got more over with it.
That's one reason I was pleasently suprised to see Vickie get over on her on the way out.
ReplyDeleteFair enough, I don't think his work is "bad" per se, I'm more frustrated the direction it has gone when I think other paths had MUCH more potential.
ReplyDeleteI guess we'll have to see how this feud with Wyatt plays out to really see where WWE views him in the pecking order, these two kids are talented enough, they might be able to pull out something entertaining despite it all, but it's not off to a promising start, that's for sure.
Dean is one of those guys who would have flourished a little more in the Attitude Era just by virtue of being allowed to do more. It comes across as corny when he has to be crazy, but can only be as crazy as PG television allows.
ReplyDeleteNot saying the Attitude Era was perfect, but it allowed more freedom for characters who were a bit 'out there.'
I felt this way after hell in a cell. If ever there was a match that needed a little brutality, it was Rollins vs Ambrose.
ReplyDeleteYou wanna get something out of this feud? Put Bray Wyatt over mega strong. He really should just LESNAR-at-Summerslam Ambrose and beat him down for 15 minutes before just pinning him with his foot on his chest. Just have Bray completely destroy Dean and put him off TV for 6 months, and then bring Dean back either as a tougher guy or completely as a Santino character.
ReplyDeleteI think it needed more mustard.
ReplyDeleteI'll never forget that segment with AJ and Kaitlyn, where she (as a face, presumably) completely talked down to a cowering AJ. And then, on her way out, she also talked down (again, as a face) to Kaitlyn....who had just interrupted to get her revenge.
ReplyDeleteAnd any segment with AJ, she always does the stare down. Steph is legitimately half a foot taller than her, but then in heels (while AJ wears Converse) makes her look like a monster. I think back to how Vince McMahon used to stand in a ditch when doing an interview with Andre, to make him seem EVEN BIGGER. And that guy was a legit giant. And yet Steph needs to make a point to show how much bigger she is than her competing Divas.
I'm a little conflicted on this because I think Steph is a brilliant heel, and I often find her segments really entertaining.....the problem is, ultimately, heels have to show ass at some point (especially in authority figures), and Steph doesn't do that. Ironically enough, HHH has been really good at showing ass lately and I find him even more entertaining, and we know Vince was a master at showing ass. I wish she would realize this.
ReplyDeleteI think Dean has a lot of untapped bottles of ketchup.
ReplyDeleteA month ago, you could see the beginning stages of a grassroots movement to get behind Ambrose; even in its infancy, you could see an increase in the 'A-M-B-R-O-S-E' signs that you'd see starting to pop up in the arenas. Fast forward to today, and they've done a wonderful job and killing that shit dead. The internet smark conspiracy theorist in me wants to believe that they intentionally cooled him off so as to not overshadow their darling baby Roman Reigns, but the pragmatist in me believes that it was a combination of poor writing and no clear vision, along with a decided refusal to properly blow off the Ambrose-Rollins program in satisfying faction.
ReplyDeleteI've been making this argument for the last three weeks now it feels, but it bears repeating here: Roman Reigns will not be as reviled or loathed coming back as Batista was. We all like to retroactively condemn Batista as a babyface flop from the get-go, but he was roundly cheered in his first appearance back. Batista's issue was three-fold: there was a vocal segment of the fan base upset about him coming back for a payday, still another group of casual fans were confused by his apparent friendship/alliance with the Authority coming in straightaway, but the biggest reason was that people were simply wanting Daniel Bryan. Add those three issues up, and it doomed him.
The problem with Reigns long term is that he isn't ready for a top run, in my opinion (stressing that last part). To succeed as a main event superstar, you need five things: a memorable look, decent microphone skills, good workrate, a solid character, and the support of the fanbase. If you're particularly strong in one area and weaker in another, you might be able to scoot by in 2014. Reigns has a memorable look, but his workrate is far below the level of other main event competitors. His microphone skills leave a lot to be desired, which plays into another flaw that's not really addressed as much—what's his character supposed to be? Silent brooder, pimptastic lady's man or Cena-style superface?
He's got 'the look', and the fans support him to an extent, though the crowd dies during his matches. Philadelphia is a notorious smark city, which may lead to some boos, but unless they really work to develop him properly, I do expect the boos to increase as we move closer to his coronation at WrestleMania. He needs more time, but I fear he's getting shoved into a mold he can't possibly fill at this stage in his career.
Gawd Stephanie and HHH booking Andre the Giant would have been amazing. Steph would have worn 3 foot heels to tower above him and they would have fired him and made him cry and beg for his job back. "Beg for me in French you freak!"
ReplyDeletePiper did a lot goofier stuff than Ambrose has done so far (gave a midget a Mohawk, boxing match with Mr T, painted himself half black, broke up a hillbilly wedding...) and he did fine.
ReplyDeleteAustin backed up a beet truck and squirted his opponent with beer. The NWO put on wigs and pretended to be their opponents in interview. Socko. Undertaker and his Magic Urn...
You can do a lot of stupid stuff in wrestling and still have a pretty nice career
YUP. The grassroots movement for Dean Ambrose is a total myth at this points. Smarks and casuals alike have lost interest.
ReplyDeleteAs for Roman, yeah he's absolutely in a better position with fans than Batista was a year ago. But putting him over in the Rumble in Philly is a giant clusterfuck waiting to happen. Crowds like him, but if the product is this awful heading into the Rumble that Philly crowd will just eat everything alive. And Christ, they really shouldthat is not how you want Reigns' big babyface main event push to begin.
Don't forget his mustard skills.
ReplyDeleteHe's a real Lunactic Fringe that Dino!
ReplyDeleteBased on all his food pranks, Dean Ambrose be nicknamed The Lunatic Fridge.
ReplyDeleteIf Reigns is selling any merch, that would be a good sign, since I don't think I've ever seen one piece of merch for the guy on him or at the couple live shows I've been to in recent months. But, if he comes back and it's obvious he will win the Rumble, and obvious he will beat Brock to win the title -- and his matches aren't that great -- another backlash will be coming.
ReplyDeleteWhen he starts tossing chocolate pudding at his opponents, The Lunatic Fudge.
ReplyDeleteIf you'd like to make a bet about Ambrose not having a non battle royal match at Wrestlemania let me know. I'll even give you 2 to 1 odds.
ReplyDeleteHopefully dean has goals that include being more than slightly less over than Randy Orton.
ReplyDeleteSure, let's put a thousand "BoD bucks" on it.
ReplyDeletehow about 50 real bucks?
ReplyDeleteIt's weird to me that they would sabotage Ambrose's career this bad with Punk and Bryan both gone and Reigns being so clearly terrible. But what's done is done. Hopefully the next crop of nxt guys are more interesting and have better pushes.
ReplyDeleteAnd when he throws baguettes while wearing a beret, The Lunatic French.
ReplyDeleteMy suggestion is to sell toy flak jackets, bulletproof vests or whatever that thing is he wears. I could see my kids wearing them as long as they don't Cenafy them
ReplyDeleteBryan was 5x more popular than Ambrose. Reigns is 5x less hated than Batista. No problem will exist because Orton is the one who will get the smark babyface chants at the Rumble... one year after getting his match laughed out of the building.
ReplyDeleteI think the big question about this year's Rumble in Philly is... can the fans boo EVERYTHING?
ReplyDeleteThat is a BOLD prediction there regarding the hardcore fan chants.
ReplyDeletesure, if they chant for rival promotions (TNA, ROH, is Global Force chant-able?)
ReplyDeleteG-F-W?
ReplyDeleteSure.
Sabotage is a bold word. They haven't given him the Zach Ryder treatment. You can make a better case for Cesaro being sabotaged
ReplyDeleteThe Reigns injury preempted any Bryan-like fan backlash. If that wasn't enough, the way they've booked Ambrose did the rest. There won't be enough time prior to the Rumble for the fans to get worked up regarding either of these guys. These crowd movements don't just happen in a vacuum, they build up week to week. The only thing really being built up is the continued chants for CM Punk, and it's not that he's "more over than the current roster" or that the fans somehow think WWE can bring him back. His name has become an expression of dissatisfaction with the current product. Maybe by February the fans will have latched onto something to get behind, but right now I'm not seeing signs if anything. The Authority has pretty much beaten the crowds into submission.
ReplyDeleteI thought Batista was going to come back for a two-year run, save time off for movie promotion? Whatever happened to that? Did he decide not to come back, or were we getting worked?
ReplyDeletethere also hasn't been any story about Ambrose even wanting to be champion. Bryan as a character had been on a quest for the WWE title since his feud with CM Punk in 2012. The only thing Ambrose cares about is screwing Rollins out of cashing in MITB, and without Lesnar around that isn't even possible.
ReplyDeleteHe discovered that compensation for main eventers in 2014 was significantly less than in 2005, and basically decided to cancel his future plans in wrestling and do movies instead. Meltzer has said that he's pretty much done for good now.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's one way to be rid of the "part-timers." Bomb business so badly that WWE doesn't even make enough money to pay top guys anymore.
ReplyDeleteMan, it's gonna be hilarious if Cena gets even a bit of movie success and rushes the fuck outta there.
Probably a wise move on his part. Thanks, Scott.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm curious how his contract was set up to allow such a move or if he had to compensate WWE.
they can always circle back to Ambrose vs Rollins for mania.
ReplyDeleteWhat would they be chanting for? A website that streams New Japan? I'd just chant New Japan if I was them.
ReplyDeleteYa'll know they are gonna book Daniel Bryan vs Kane at Wrestlemania right?
ReplyDeleteAlso I have completely lost interest in Reigns and now want Ambrose as the top guy who is sort of a Stone Cold like character in 2014.
Don't worry: it's building up to Steph putting over Rusev and Lana huge, just like the Brie Bella stuff. I'm still disappointed the crowd doesn't chant "slut" every time she tries to do a yes chant.
ReplyDeleteEh, Team Hell No was solidly midcard/tag title focused. He started being more world title focused with the "weak link" stuff with Orton, but it wasn't a two-year journey just focused on the world title.
ReplyDeleteDisagree. Team Hell NO! came about b/c of anger management therapy, which Bryan was put into b/c AJ was GM (holy shit! remember that?) who was feuding with Bryan after he dumped her b/c she was holding him back from his dream of being champ. He had a goal, got sidetracked and rediscovered the motivation to accomplish that goal.
ReplyDeleteA website that streams New Japan with Jim Ross
ReplyDeleteThe material Bryan/Kane were given as Team Hell No wasn't bad, and they did a good job with it.
ReplyDeleteAnd marry Chyna, aka 'The Lunatic Minge'
ReplyDeleteDean Ambrose IS Daniel Bryan
ReplyDeleteYou know, except for that part where one of them is (was) the best wrestler in the entire world.
The only bright side to this version is that we got Cena vs Orton out of the way already.
ReplyDeletebravo
ReplyDeleteYour site gets to be the saddest thing I'll see today, and I have a midterm I'm woefully under prepared for in just under 4 hours
Agreed - I wouldn't say that Ambrose is being "sabotaged", which implies that they're purposely trying to hurt him, it's just that it's their using their usual ass-backwards way of trying to push someone. I definitely think that the company WANTS to push him, it's just poor execution.
ReplyDeleteCena's laughably terrible wooden acting skills are a part of why WWE continues to push him. He's not going anywhere else. They're a perfect fit.
ReplyDeleteYa know, I was so ready to "let it play out and see where it goes" with that segment. I mean, it just HAD to be leading to AJ triumphing over Stephanie, right? Right?
ReplyDeleteWhy on EARTH couldn't we just get a clean ending to that match, and then have Bray attack him right afterwards (or the next night on "Raw")?
ReplyDeleteIs it really that hard to figure out?
Jeez, there is a LOT of hate for Ambrose in this thread. When did this start?
ReplyDeleteI mean, I get it, his promos have been goofy lately, and his feud with Rollins didn't have a blow-off, but he's still good in the ring and on the mic. Why is everyone dumping on him instead of doing the usual "this guy could be great if it weren't for the booking" comments? Everyone was crazy about the guy until a few weeks ago, and now he's a talentless hack?
Not at all.
ReplyDeleteDaniel Bryan is a once in a generation transcendent talent that will go down in history as one of the best in-ring guys of all time.
Dean Ambrose is a pretty good rookie who was part of a hot stable. He might grow into a top guy, but right now he's wrestling like a WCW midcarder and cosplaying as Heath Ledger's Joker.
He's sliming dudes and shooting them with mustard, come on. NEXT.
ReplyDeleteTHIS. Ambrose wishes he was on Bryan's level.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't crazy about him. He's got loads of charisma, but his promos are often shallow and his ring work (while definitely improving) is still not where I think it needs to be for him to ascend to the top with his size/persona.
ReplyDeleteHe's good. Great in some areas, bad in others, improving in more. He's got to rein in some of the mannerisms, because they come off forced a lot.
Yeah, also this. Ambrose has never received Bryan-like responses.
ReplyDeleteHe's dead in the water because he's been reduced to a early 90's Nickelodeon cartoon character. He was doing great after the shield split but his new character is like a 500x more offensive and pandering version of Cena. NEXT
ReplyDeleteWell either way, if they wanted to cool down his heat and make fans want him off TV they succeeded.
ReplyDeletein other words we all need to start buying Cena movies and if they are in theaters (god help us), attending Cena movies
ReplyDeleteHe's what would have happened had Raven been given a push in the WWE. I love him. :)
ReplyDeleteIf it were Cesaro doing it, I doubt so many would be over it and washing their hands of him.
ReplyDeleteHe could set folk on fire, then he'd be The Lunatic Singe
ReplyDeleteI agree that Cesaro would kill someone to get Ambroses air time, but Dean is still one of the worst parts of RAW.
ReplyDeleteWere people on this board saying Yodeling was awesome, or anything other than stupid?
ReplyDeleteDragon Gate! Dragon Gate!
ReplyDeleteRing of honor! Clap clap clapclapclap
That's my point, though - when Cesaro was yodeling, people disliked the yodeling, not Cesaro himself.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like everyone's dumping on Ambrose, though, instead of the booking surrounding him. I mean, I'm not saying that everyone has to like Ambrose or push for him to be a main-eventer or anything, but I think that most would at agree that he's at least a decent (and unique) performer. He's not Khali, ya know?
Ambrose is Bryan without a catchphrase.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure lots of people would fine with Steph showing her ass.
ReplyDelete[obvious joke is obvious]
G-F-DUB!
ReplyDeleteyep, the main problems doesn't seem to be the fans "revolting" but them being more and more indifferent.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd buy a "Mustard Skills" shirt.
ReplyDelete"[...] but they still had significant plans for him."
ReplyDeleteyou mean like when they bounced him from the Mania card in 2011. or are you talking about them jobbing him out in 18 seconds in 2012?
Not sure what the e-mailer is talking about... they are CLEARLY two separate guys.
ReplyDeleteLet's see... knows about the BoD... has a negative attitude about women... knows how to build a website...
ReplyDeleteI know who this is.
Most cost effective, maybe.
ReplyDeleteDissention in the Job Mob already?
ReplyDeleteDon't let the politics pull us apart! Its what they want!
ReplyDeleteI assume you mean that as a statement upon their position in the company, not a statement upon their talent.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that WWE took a character that had potential and turned him into Gallagher. Bryan had the skill, tenacity and crowd support to overcome bad booking and make WWE take notice. Dean seems content to have two-star matches and play with his props in the midcard...and I'm not sure he's wrong for that line of thinking. Popular midcarders have a MUCH longer shelf life than main eventers, don't have the same political pressures, can make tons of money and frequently transition into backstage gigs.
ReplyDeleteIs that not half of the IWC?
