JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED!  Now I hope that a lesson was learned by everyone who thought that fixing the results of a professional wrestling match could lead to anything good.

And now, the other half of the third round:

Comments

  1. Uh-oh... Shenanigans in Razor-Patterson?

  2. And (thankfully) counter-rigged.

  3. What happened in the Razor-Patterson match?

    ReplyDelete
  4. This tournament is as genuine as that vote that led to Roman Reigns being named as Superstar of the Year.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I could see Savage going all the way. Not only defeating 6 IC Champions, but 6 Heavyweight Champions. Savage vs. Angle, HHH, RVD, Austin, Warrior, and Hart would be a tournament for the ages.

  6. This is Marty's illustrious IC title reign (source: History Of WWE)

    WWF @ New York City, NY - Manhattan Center - May 17, 1993 (1,000)
Marty Jannetty CLEANLY pinned WWF IC Champion Shawn Michaels at 10:57 with an inside cradle to win the title after Mr. Perfect, who appeared ringside mid-way through the match, threw his towel into Michaels' face; Perfect appeared ringside at the 4-minute mark to prevent Michaels from walking out of the match (Jannetty's surprise return after a 4-month absence) (1993 Year in Review, Monday Night Raw: Prime Cuts, German Fan Favorites , The Best of Raw 15th Anniversary, The Best of Raw: Seasons 1 & 2)

    WWF @ Hershey, PA - Hersheypark Arena - May 21, 1993 (2,800)
WWF IC Champion Marty Jannetty (sub. for Mr. Perfect) pinned Papa Shango at 7:46 with a roll up

    WWF @ New York City, NY - Manhattan Center - May 31, 1993 (750)
    Monday Night Raw:
WWF IC Champion Marty Jannetty (w/ Sensational Sherri) defeated Bam Bam Bigelow (w/ Luna Vachon) via count-out after the challenger pushed Jannetty back into the ring but could not beat the 10-count himself due to Sherri; after the bout, Bigelow attacked the champion before a number of officials came to the ring to hold him off; after the commercial break, Sherri returned ringside and challenged Luna to come out; the two went at it briefly before Bigelow came to Luna's aid, which prompted Tatanka to make the save for Sherri

    WWF @ Sioux City, IA - Arena - June 1, 1993
WWF IC Champion Marty Jannetty pinned Shawn Michaels

    WWF @ Des Moines, IA - Veterans Memorial Auditorium - June 3, 1993 (1,850)
WWF IC Champion Marty Jannetty pinned Shawn Michaels

    WWF @ Minneapolis, MN - Target Center - June 5, 1993 (3,300)
WWF IC Champion Marty Jannetty pinned Shawn Michaels at 13:00

    WWF @ Albany, NY - Knickerbocker Arena - June 6, 1993 (3,000)
Shawn Michaels (w/ Diesel) CHEATED to beat WWF IC Champion Marty Jannetty to STEAL the title with the superkick after Jannetty was distracted by Diesel at ringside (Diesel's debut)

This is what Austin did with his IC title reign

    1) Beats Rock at IYH: DX in a Russo special
    2) Couldn't keep up with the pressure of being IC champion so he gladly gives it to the Rock the next night on Raw so Rock wouldn't kick his roody poo candy ass

  7. Who won, Razor or Patterson?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Link to the bracket is at the top of the post.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Razor/Patterson has no result.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Remember people, when Austin won the IC title, his stock may have risen, but he totally buried the title in the process by giving it away like he didn't care for it. It took Rock keeping the belt for nearly a year to restore the IC title back to it's former glory.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Jimmy Hart is getting his attorney on the phone

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think you're actually starting to work against the people you're rooting for.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I believe Marty Jannetty was more of a beneficiary of rigged voting than The Mountie was. There is no way Jannetty should have lasted this long. It's a given The Mountie would have beaten Pedro Morales, a guy who many have not seen wrestle and the ones who have wondered what the fuss was all about. Beating Ric Flair is iffier but considering that this was the Ric Flair who was hanging around too long and should have been long retired, victory was possible, even though it would have been interesting to see how he would have fared in a fair vote. But Marty Jannetty over Don Muraco by a vote margin of 2:1 with total amount of votes seem to be way over the total number of votes for the fair matchups, there definitely seems to be one person spamming for Jannetty. Heck the first round seems like a bunch of matchups of spambots trying to get their man into the next round.

There was a lot of shenanigans but The Mountie was not the only beneficiary. Probably the most extreme but not the only beneficary (see also Shamrock, Ken). The rules for this tournament should have been tightened up from the beginning.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Canadian legal process works slowly, though. Mountie will already have been shanked by Nailz by the time he gets legal representation.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yeah it should have always been one vote per IP address. To change it midway is odd. Keith is obviously adopting Bischoff's "Controversy Creates Cash" mantra

    ReplyDelete
  17. I bet The Mountie had the flu this time. I demand a rematch under Provice of Quebec Rules

    ReplyDelete
  18. The tag tournament worked fine under the multiple voting system until the last rounds, when people started doing the spamming. My thought was that it was just a fun tournament anyway so people wouldn't bother, but I obviously underestimated the will of idiots.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The will of idiots is strong. In fact, it's handsome, brave, and strong.

  20. Once upon a time in early 96, Marty found Vince crying in his office. MJ asked Vinny what was wrong and Vince confided in him that the WWF was going under after the Diesel experiment was a complete disaster. Vince tried to push him as the next Hulk Hogan, but it didn't work and asked Marty if he knew a guy he could push to the top. Marty thought for awhile and told Vince "give me 24 hours and I'll find you your next Hulk Hogan." And in those 24 hours, Marty wrestled every wrestler in North America. Even guys that just came out of their first day of training and in the end Marty gave Vince this video http://youtu.be/QLDVm-I0_CE and told Vince "this man is the next guy you need to give the rocket push too" and thus a star was born.

So if it wasn't for Marty, Austin wouldn't even have had a career in THIS BUSINESS.

    Vote Marty.

    ReplyDelete
  21. You know I actually forgot about this but I got Marty's autograph in '93 at a signing at the Steamtown Mall in Scranton. So yeah...I think I'm gonna give him my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  22. You're not just voting for Marty. You're voting for a better life.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Still rooting for Savage all the way.

    ReplyDelete
  24. How on Earth did Kerry Von Erich make it this far?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I didn't know Marty wrestled after the Barber Shop incident! I found a match on YouTube after that and before he was released where he wrestles as The Rocker Marty Jannetty.

    ReplyDelete
  26. This is the IC tournament. Marty's IC title reign was long after the Barber Shop incident...

    ReplyDelete
  27. The big mistake was letting people see the voting percentages. It sounded like a good idea at the time but in hindsight it wasn't.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Kofi and Wade aren't exactly Murderer's Row, although I did vote for Wade.

    ReplyDelete
  29. He was in the ring with a man oozing machismo. I think he's happy.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I know, just a Marty related bit of trivia.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Although a lot of the voting tended to be generational, Kerry's advancement just illustrates how the status of the IC title has fallen in recent years when two of the most prominent recent champions couldn't beat a drugged up screw up.

    ReplyDelete
  32. "Now I hope that a lesson was learned by everyone who thought that fixing
the results of a professional wrestling match could lead to anything
    good. "

I nearly did a spit take at that line.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It's probably best Bret went over Mountie. The 6 or 7 years of him complaining about losing wouldn't have been worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Next tournament: Greatest IWGP Heavweight Champion.

A real Murderer's Row, and then some: http://www.njpw.co.jp/english/data/list_category.php?cat=1

  35. Money in the Bank has basically replaced the old IC Title right? The IC was generally used to get guys ready (Savage, Warrior, Bret, Michaels, Diesel, Jericho, Orton, Edge)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Nooooo...The Mountie

    ReplyDelete
  37. In the sense they give it to the guy they plan to elevate next, probably. Of course the IC Champion would defend it and win matches to establish themselves whereas the MITB holder is just a guy until he does the cheap cash in.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Not sure to vote Marty? Here are 10 fun Marty facts to sway your opinion:

    1) A homeless man once approached Marty Jannetty and asked for some change... MJ promptly bitch-slapped that motherfucker and sent him on his way.

    2) Marty Jannetty gave JR the secret ingredient to his BBQ sauce.

    3) Marty Jannetty is Daniel Bryan's real father.

    4) Marty Jannetty brings all the girls to the yard. He could teach you but he'd have to charge.

    5) The leaning tower of Piza is built that way because the man who built it got distracted by watching Marty Jannetty matches.

    6) Marty Jannetty made his debut during the Reagan inauguration. Years later Reagan developed Alzheimers disease.

    7) They say Marty Jannetty's soul is inside the Money in the Bank briefcase.

    8) In the late 80s, Marty Jannetty was hospitalized once. A concerned Shawn Michaels called and asked if "Marty Jannetty could return to the ring because he needed MJ to carry the Rockers".

    9) Just before wrestlers die they see all of Marty Jannetty's matches in a quick flash.

    10) Marty Jannetty once met Michael Bay back when he was a struggling director looking for work. Marty took him under his wing and told him that if he wants to make it in this business and make some motherfucking money that he needed to add more explosions in his work.

Not gonna lie, I'm a little annoyed Jericho beat out Tito Santana. In protest, I vote Marty Jannetty, since neither he nor Steve Austin had any kind of worthwhile IC Title reign, and I enjoyed the Shawn-Marty matches.

  40. Hanging on for 30 seconds in the Sharpshooter is nothing to be ashamed of. He's lucky it wasn't Shawn putting it on him, even Bret have up within seconds!

  41. Oh Captain, My Captain

Canadien flags will be flying at half-mast to honor Canada's greatest wrestling hero.

  42. The true irony is we can view the results on the bonus question.

    ReplyDelete
  43. It's sad when sadistic authority figures bend results to their whims. The Mountie is the true People's Champion.

  44. Patterson checked Razor's oil.

  45. Tony Schiavone: "Scott Keith, you can go to hell. Straight to hell."

    ReplyDelete
  46. Forgive me for being forward, but why the hell do you care? This is a tournament of zero consequence.

    ReplyDelete
  47. What's with all the complaining?

In the words of Jesse Ventura: Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Vince McMahon: "Scott Keith took his ball and went home."

    ReplyDelete
  49. Remember guys, if it wasn't for Marty, Kevin Nash never would have had a job with the WWF. Shawn Michaels needed to hire Diesel because he couldn't beat his former team mate on his own. So without Marty, we never would have gotten those 7 eliminations at the 94 Rumble, we never would have gotten those ***** classics with Bret and Shawn and we never would have gotten the nWo.

The Mounties punishment should be sending a healthy Dynamite Kid after him after reminding him that he knocked his teeth out.

That being said, that Warrior/Rock match is intriguing.

  58. Rules:

Votes from Canadian IPs count for 10, and can vote unlimited times versus once per round everywhere else.

    ReplyDelete
  59. But Austin did nothing as IC champion.

If this was the world title tournament with Austin v Savage as a bracket that would be tremendous, but as an IC title bracket it's worthless because Austin did nothing to elevate the title.

Hockey is dumb and Canadian beer tastes like piss.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Doesn't mean he's not popular in general, and no, I'm not comparing his popularity to Savage's in any way. Whether the choice is correct based on contributions or not, people are going to vote for who they want to vote for. How else do you think The Mountie got this far?

  63. Holy fantasy booking.....Dream Matches personified!!! Rock vs Warrior is pretty AWESOME but the thought of say RVD '97-'98 vs say SAVAGE '86-'88 is exploding my brain.
Macho Man Savage vs RVD that's so cool....The Rock vs Ultimate Warrior pretty sweet. Only in the BOD Universe 'Maggle.

  64. The Mountie got this far by working hard, paying his dues and always getting his man, good sir.
