Johnson is one of the few people who can legit say they whipped The Rock's ass on a regular basis, and Atlas likes pig feet, chitluns, and was homeless for a while. That's enough to get my vote.
I agree with you Reigns. He's not bad, but definitely boring. It doesn't help that I find his so-called impressive signature moves to be pathetic, especially that silly jumping punch.
Only team to hold both WWE and WCW US tag titles: Steiner Brothers Only team to hold both WWE and AWA tag titles: The Road Warriors Only team to hold both WWE and ROH tag titles: TWGTT
It was during the Alliance, they had a couple wild brawls including a match were Mark Jindrak got busted wide open. I think they had a good one against Kane / Undertaker as well.
I'm hating on the Road Warriors hard, I'm really hoping everyone here has some common sense and votes for Benoit / Angle. I'm also a little let down no Benoit / Malenko.
I want to stress... WWF Version Road Warriors. Not the awesome bad-asses of the NWA and other territories. The watered down marketed to children pussies version.
I feel like this is the 5th time we've seen Rusev/Reigns on this show. I really don't understand this company's incessant need to play out what could be considered a fresh matchup.
Kane and Show were a decent "Super Team" of Champions, simply for the fact the Raw tag division looked like this: The Heart Throbs, Hurricane and Rosey, and a handful of other jobber teams. Was Maven and Simon Dean still a thing by then?
With hot contenders like Epico/Primo, Rikishi/Rico, Regal/Storm, Kozlov/Santino, and a handful of other awful choices, the Gunns are a solid Top 5 in this bracket.
On one hand, you've got Daniel Bryan vs. Brock Lesnar for the title at Wrestlemania. On the other hand, you have Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar for the title at Wrestlemania.
Can someone give me ONE GOOD REASON why the common fan would want to see the later over the former?
Since this is "fantasy booking" I'm just pretending that this team IS Flair and Piper in their prime, making them the most bad ass team in this bracket.
I had to actually google them as tag team champions to see it with my own eyes though... this was after I stopped watching on a regular basis and I had no idea they were even ever the champs. Yikes.
It's interesting that all of Rusev's matches against upper card guys that could be future fresh feuds are thrown on Smackdown, and he mostly faces loser JTTS on Raw. Suggests that WWE acknowledges nobody watches Smackdown.
To me he's like... well, Miz. As soon as he comes on TV I change the channel, then end up finding something to watch that isn't terrible and forget about Raw.
Every match tonight is incredibly lopsided, to the point where I'd just call them all if it wasn't for a couple of incredibly close races to justify keeping it running.
I know I picked La Res over Big Show/Kane mainly because onl one of them I considered an actual tag team, whereas Show/Kane were two guys who randomly teamed up for a couple of months because they were the only ones left on the roster they hadn't turned against.
La Res sucked, but at least they were a tag team and one with a gimmick and a somewhat strong run, even if they sucked. That will get my vote over just about any random two dudes thrown together for three months whom I can't recall anything about their run.
Also, no, the Shield match is incredibly NOT the most lop-sided thus far. That could of course change but one team is amazingly doing worse than Deuce & Domino tonight.
Benoit/Angle, while awesome, were a tag team for about two months. The Road Warriors had a damn near 20 year run as main event level money-drawing badasses in multiple companies/territories/countries. The Road Warriors were fucking mega-STARS, Angle/Benoit were a TV angle booking device on Smackdown.... My version of common sense sees the Road Warriors win easily.
Also, Benoit/Malenko were never WWE Tag Champs....
Hart Dynasty got robbed. A cohesive tag team comprised of two guys who grew up and trained together get ousted by a flash in the pan comedy team featuring The Miz? For shame, BoD.
Eh. If one move sways me, it's Arn Anderson planting someone with a wicket spinebuster. Being able to AA/FU two guys combined for 300 lbs. isn't impressive.
I'm sure even the most hardcore fans are too young to even remember the "in their prime" Moondogs. I only know them as a scrub team toward the end of their run with Spot and Rex.
I'd say Jericho and Michaels are a top two. I was thinking of Randy Savage, but his reign was mostly defending against chumps like George Steele and washed up Pedro Morales.
The moondogs might still win that vote. They brought giant fucking bones to the ring! Also a fun fact: moondogs auto corrects to corndogs. Beat that, nasties.
Awesome, that's what I was going for. I picture Michaels hitting Cena with Sweet Chin Music, then throwing a hissy fit and walking out on the match, leaving Quake to splatter Cena, at which point we get weeks of treacly videos about how Cena's career might be over and where to send the postcards. Me, I'll just cross out Hogan's name and write Cena's and hope he doesn't notice.
why though? How does Roman Reigns have any connection with the fans at a main event level? What has he really accomplished as a face, leading up to this?
"Ascension says first it was Hawk and Animal, then it was Ax and Smash, but now it's Viktor and Konnor. I like that they're acknowledging that they're a modern version of the old school power tag team."
I'm actually shocked that they are admitting Hawk and Animal came first.
I think the only way to make the fans genuinely excited for Reigns' match at WM is to use the time between now and then to build up a massive Shield triple-threat match. First ever time all three fight every man for himself since splitting. Most fans will be totally into that, and they can give Reigns the win without damaging the other two too much - have Ambrose basically take himself out in his increasingly insane efforts to end Rollins, and let Reigns just hit the spear in the aftermath to get the pin.
The Usos are a far superior team to Owen and Yoko '95. Give me an argument otherwise. Usos SUCK charisma/character wise and still have tons of 3-4 star awesome PPV/TV matches that made people go "that ruled" despite the team not being compelling. Owen and Yoko were a 5 month gimmick never in their league.
I'm interested to see how Hart Foundation vs Team Hell No would do. Since Daniel Bryan is a better worker than Bret by a giant ton and Kane destroys Neidhart.
I've just been watching the Reigns/Rollins match from Raw, and I swear if you turned the commentary off, you'd think Rollins was the plucky HBK underdog face and Reigns was the big bad monster heel (except with shitty offense). He could not be more unsuited to the role they want him to play.
Usos are decent workers, but hardly in the **** zone. They're just a bland, "pep up the crowd" babyface duo that'll win the belts numerous times because there's so few good teams out there.
Why? They needed to be dumped off and repackaged if any of them were going to succeed. They got some exposure on the main roster with the most ridiculous gimmick ever, and more than ran its course.
How many people (other than us) remember that Dolph ZIggler was a member? If Spirit Squad doesn't get crapped out the way they did, Ziggler never makes to the main roster in his current incarnation.
Rikishi was Rico's surprise partner against Billy&Chuck and they had the titles for not so long. I don#t even remeber how they lost them....maybe back to Billy&Chuck?
I just want it noted that even on a randomized list, the two teams consisting completely of Black men are fighting each other. This is why we can't have nice things. Even the computers are fucking racist.
Because the Spirit Squad was brought in as a jokey backup for McMahon against HBK and Triple H. The story was DX vs. McMahons and the Spirit Squad were bit players.
They still got to be in the ring - in their first program - with two main eventers. Sure, they got their asses kicked, but they were supposed to.
I voted La Res because Kane is possibly my least favorite prominent wrestler and Big Show isn't Daniel Bryan so therefore unable to make me tolerate Kane (although, somehow, Xpac pulled this off too.)
For awhile there, that Big Show Ryback match was actually telling a story.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a Tony Atlas/Rocky Johnson match, but I'm voting for them because the Soul Patrol is a top-tier team name.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. I was digging it until then.
ReplyDeleteUh, not sure if that's sarcasm but the Gunns were very boring and doubt they'd get far in the tournament.
ReplyDeleteI voted for them too despite never seeing one of their matches just because I can't remember Kofi/Truth being champions.
ReplyDeleteThat was my entire reason as well.
ReplyDeleteJohnson is one of the few people who can legit say they whipped The Rock's ass on a regular basis, and Atlas likes pig feet, chitluns, and was homeless for a while. That's enough to get my vote.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Reigns. He's not bad, but definitely boring. It doesn't help that I find his so-called impressive signature moves to be pathetic, especially that silly jumping punch.
ReplyDeleteSince people care: Jobbers were Rhett Titus(of ROH fame) and Lance Anoa'i.
ReplyDeleteIf I get a chance to vote for Dick Murdoch, I vote for Dick Murdoch.
ReplyDeleteI wish Flair and Piper had been a team in their primes. The whole run through the break up angle and feud would have been great shit.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit late to this, but why were Jules/Jay Strongbow in here and the Rougeau Brothers weren't?
ReplyDeleteApparently all teams listed had runs as tag champs. I'm baffled at some of the combos
ReplyDeleteYou just had to group all the black guys in one match, didn't you?
ReplyDeleteAll former WWE tag team champions
ReplyDeleteHehe. You like dick.
ReplyDeleteSlaterGaber all the way!
ReplyDeleteThe original team of guys who hated each other, the Soul Patrol!
ReplyDeleteToo bad phantom reigns don't count, because les freres Rougeaus would have ruled.
ReplyDeleteThe Rockers got in...
ReplyDeleteThe Dream Team FTW!
ReplyDeleteHurp Durp...that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteI want my vote to count for Cody Rhodes and Goldust--not Stardust and Goldust.
ReplyDeleteIf we get bored after this...there were 15 different WCW United States tag team champions.
ReplyDeleteI think we could all agree to give The Midnight Express a first round bye?
Hell yes, The Kings of Truth were awesome!
ReplyDeleteHistory has shown that the Gunns can't stand up to Owen and Yoko.
ReplyDeleteOnly team to hold both WWE and WCW US tag titles: Steiner Brothers
ReplyDeleteOnly team to hold both WWE and AWA tag titles: The Road Warriors
Only team to hold both WWE and ROH tag titles: TWGTT
Owen and Yoko: Dead Men Not Walking
ReplyDeleteUntil they were beaten by Hell No!
ReplyDeleteSmoking Gunns vs. Strongbows: I will never believe this one was generated by random draw.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm backing RTC all the way, just because they had pretty much the best entrance theme ever.
(thinks hard) Invasion, around October 01. Beat Kane and Taker, I think. Some lame shenanigans, probably.
ReplyDeleteIt was during the Alliance, they had a couple wild brawls including a match were Mark Jindrak got busted wide open. I think they had a good one against Kane / Undertaker as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm hating on the Road Warriors hard, I'm really hoping everyone here has some common sense and votes for Benoit / Angle. I'm also a little let down no Benoit / Malenko.
ReplyDeleteDespite my feelings on Benoit, I'm with you completely
ReplyDeleteLondon/Kendrick vs Eddie/Rey was probably the toughest one to pick.
ReplyDeleteI want to stress... WWF Version Road Warriors. Not the awesome bad-asses of the NWA and other territories. The watered down marketed to children pussies version.
ReplyDeleteI feel like this is the 5th time we've seen Rusev/Reigns on this show. I really don't understand this company's incessant need to play out what could be considered a fresh matchup.
ReplyDeleteDemos losing to LOD is balls, but I guess that's the way the ball bounces.
ReplyDeleteT&T !!
ReplyDeleteThe Rockers were reported in PWI as champs. They even defended the belts on a house show in Agusta, GA, according the history of wwe.
ReplyDeleteIt legit warms my heart to see Natural Disasters defeat Cena/HBK.
ReplyDeleteBut they're not Kane and Big Show. That's good enough for me.
ReplyDeleteThe LA RES Movement is in full effect!
ReplyDeleteKane and Show were a decent "Super Team" of Champions, simply for the fact the Raw tag division looked like this: The Heart Throbs, Hurricane and Rosey, and a handful of other jobber teams. Was Maven and Simon Dean still a thing by then?
ReplyDeleteWith hot contenders like Epico/Primo, Rikishi/Rico, Regal/Storm, Kozlov/Santino, and a handful of other awful choices, the Gunns are a solid Top 5 in this bracket.
ReplyDeleteGood to know the smart audience will make Cena job as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteOn one hand, you've got Daniel Bryan vs. Brock Lesnar for the title at Wrestlemania. On the other hand, you have Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar for the title at Wrestlemania.
ReplyDeleteCan someone give me ONE GOOD REASON why the common fan would want to see the later over the former?
Group BK is one of those cases where I won't vote at all.
ReplyDeleteSince this is "fantasy booking" I'm just pretending that this team IS Flair and Piper in their prime, making them the most bad ass team in this bracket.
ReplyDeleteI had to actually google them as tag team champions to see it with my own eyes though... this was after I stopped watching on a regular basis and I had no idea they were even ever the champs. Yikes.
Also, I'd think the Shield will likely have the most lopsided vote so far.
ReplyDeleteI voted Miz/Show because I've actually seen them both wrestle. I don't tune in often, and I guess I missed Kozlov's entire career.
ReplyDeleteNo love for Douche and Domino? I'm sure they'll get better showing than Dupree and Kenzo. NO ONE can get less votes than that.
ReplyDeleteOnly the 3rd.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that all of Rusev's matches against upper card guys that could be future fresh feuds are thrown on Smackdown, and he mostly faces loser JTTS on Raw. Suggests that WWE acknowledges nobody watches Smackdown.
Wasn't he Ludvig Borga... or some other faceless, charisma lacking foreign menace?
ReplyDeleteThe fact that I've never seen him wrestle makes me want to vote for him, but fuck that, Santino fucking blows.
ReplyDeleteNo, the 2000s Kozlov.
ReplyDeleteDamn right, Murdoch and Adonis were bad ass!
ReplyDeleteI had to look it up too. I was almost completely done with wrestling from '02 to '11 (when WM was coming to Atlanta.)
ReplyDeleteYou didn't see Compton in ROH, and besides, it's the Shield.
ReplyDeleteThe anti-Reigns people will vote against him out of spite. :P
ReplyDeleteThere was a period of time that when I would tune in, Santino was one of the few people I found entertaining.
ReplyDeleteWas WWE that bad?
ReplyDeleteOn paper it sounds so awesome... in reality it's scary and awful looking.
ReplyDeleteTo me he's like... well, Miz. As soon as he comes on TV I change the channel, then end up finding something to watch that isn't terrible and forget about Raw.
ReplyDeleteEvery match tonight is incredibly lopsided, to the point where I'd just call them all if it wasn't for a couple of incredibly close races to justify keeping it running.
ReplyDeletePlease tell me Cena and Miz are laying down for the 1-2-3 Rockers.
ReplyDeleteI know I picked La Res over Big Show/Kane mainly because onl one of them I considered an actual tag team, whereas Show/Kane were two guys who randomly teamed up for a couple of months because they were the only ones left on the roster they hadn't turned against.
ReplyDeleteI'm not here to taint the voting, but that match is certainly not one of them where the result is in any doubt.
ReplyDeleteLa Res sucked, but at least they were a tag team and one with a gimmick and a somewhat strong run, even if they sucked. That will get my vote over just about any random two dudes thrown together for three months whom I can't recall anything about their run.
ReplyDeleteI'm really hoping the move back to Thursdays will change that. The show used to be really entertaining TV and can be again with some effort.
ReplyDeleteAlso, no, the Shield match is incredibly NOT the most lop-sided thus far. That could of course change but one team is amazingly doing worse than Deuce & Domino tonight.
ReplyDeleteI'm an uncommon fan and I don't see it. Not at this point at least.
ReplyDeleteThey fought Carlito and Masters a lot and jobbed to the friggin' Spirit Squad... OK, Show and Kane sucked too, I guess.
ReplyDeleteWho's stuffing the ballot box for Jimmy Snuka's untalented kid?!
ReplyDeleteBenoit/Angle, while awesome, were a tag team for about two months.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Benoit/Malenko were never WWE Tag Champs....
Hart Dynasty got robbed. A cohesive tag team comprised of two guys who grew up and trained together get ousted by a flash in the pan comedy team featuring The Miz? For shame, BoD.
ReplyDeleteSo... we're NOT basing this strictly on WWF performance? THEN HOW DID THE FUCKING BRAIN BUSTERS LOSE?!?
ReplyDeleteMy vote went to Cena and Miz between the infighting with Miz Cena was able to AA both Kid and the OTHER Rocker.
ReplyDeleteBeats me -- I voted for Arn and Tully!!
ReplyDeleteEh. If one move sways me, it's Arn Anderson planting someone with a wicket spinebuster. Being able to AA/FU two guys combined for 300 lbs. isn't impressive.
ReplyDeleteMost disappointing loss to me so far is the moondogs. I mean, the nasty boys? I would vote for the mulkeys over the nasty boys.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure even the most hardcore fans are too young to even remember the "in their prime" Moondogs. I only know them as a scrub team toward the end of their run with Spot and Rex.
ReplyDeleteCan we vote for the greatest I.C. Champion in the next tournament ?
ReplyDeleteRoad Dogg. End of debate. :P
ReplyDeleteSeriously i'd vote for Jericho.
ReplyDeleteCherry?
ReplyDeleteEvery match is incredibly lopsided, yet some are incredibly close? What manner of doublespeak is this?
ReplyDeleteI'd say Jericho and Michaels are a top two. I was thinking of Randy Savage, but his reign was mostly defending against chumps like George Steele and washed up Pedro Morales.
ReplyDeleteMeltzer.
ReplyDeleteThe nasty boys should never get a vote in a 'greatest' anything contest.
ReplyDeleteGreatest Lack of Personal Hygiene?
ReplyDeleteHonky Tonk Man. Duh.
ReplyDeleteThe moondogs might still win that vote. They brought giant fucking bones to the ring! Also a fun fact: moondogs auto corrects to corndogs. Beat that, nasties.
ReplyDeleteSo do I!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't convince Typhoon to job in his hometown, I see!
ReplyDeletePiper's belly was EPIC during their team-up.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, that's what I was going for.
ReplyDeleteIf you're old enough to remember the Strongbows, you won't be voting for them.
ReplyDeleteCompletely forgot.
ReplyDeleteWe have a new top contender for lowest total votes.
ReplyDeleteLosers
ReplyDeleteGreatest waste of a tag team roster spot?
ReplyDeleteshowmiz was pretty good; im shocked jerishow is gone
ReplyDeletehow about greatest wwe hardcore champion? my vote would be for godfather's ho
ReplyDeletethere are 72 men plus chyna who have held that belt
ReplyDeletegreatest friends of hogan?
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed that The Usos are out of this.
ReplyDeleteReally shit collection of tag teams here.
Terri Runnels
ReplyDeleteLook over your shoulder, ready to run, and vote like a bitch for The Smoking Gunns!
ReplyDeleteI AM ZHER GAME!
I cannot stress enough how irritating it is they gave away Rowan - Wyatt. Sometimes it's okay to try new matches on PPV.
ReplyDeleteI thought his ring gear looked like he was imitating the Usos. Makes sense he's their cousin.
ReplyDeletewhy though? How does Roman Reigns have any connection with the fans at a main event level? What has he really accomplished as a face, leading up to this?
ReplyDelete"Ascension says first it was Hawk and Animal, then it was Ax and Smash, but now it's Viktor and Konnor. I like that they're acknowledging that they're a modern version of the old school power tag team."
ReplyDeleteI'm actually shocked that they are admitting Hawk and Animal came first.

Most fans will be totally into that, and they can give Reigns the win without damaging the other two too much - have Ambrose basically take himself out in his increasingly insane efforts to end Rollins, and let Reigns just hit the spear in the aftermath to get the pin.
ReplyDeleteRemember 2005????? I do. The Spirit Squad are the best WWE team post Attitude Era until The Shield. FACT.
ReplyDeleteBushwhackers say hello.
ReplyDeleteThe Usos are a far superior team to Owen and Yoko '95. Give me an argument otherwise. Usos SUCK charisma/character wise and still have tons of 3-4 star awesome PPV/TV matches that made people go "that ruled" despite the team not being compelling. Owen and Yoko were a 5 month gimmick never in their league.
ReplyDeleteCrash Holly.
ReplyDeleteMoondogs sucked ass. Nasty Boys ruled until they got lazy in '95.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested to see how Hart Foundation vs Team Hell No would do. Since Daniel Bryan is a better worker than Bret by a giant ton and Kane destroys Neidhart.
ReplyDeleteThey were never the same after Orndorff squashed them.
ReplyDeleteA big ass bone.
ReplyDeleteI've just been watching the Reigns/Rollins match from Raw, and I swear if you turned the commentary off, you'd think Rollins was the plucky HBK underdog face and Reigns was the big bad monster heel (except with shitty offense). He could not be more unsuited to the role they want him to play.
ReplyDeleteThere it is, the 3 minute reign of Cena&Miz....
ReplyDeleteHe's not very popular with anti-smarks. That's the whole reason right there.
ReplyDeleteGreatest tag team ever. From formation, to the championship, to the breakup in under an hour!
ReplyDeleteOwen/Yoko never had **** matches but they did have main event credibility as a team that only a handful of teams can boast in having.
ReplyDeleteI'd say Spirit Squad had potential to be one of the best teams WWE ever produced but it quickly went down the toilet when they got buried.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Slater and Gabriel got matched up against the only two guys who are bigger jobbers than they are.
ReplyDeleteUsos are decent workers, but hardly in the **** zone. They're just a bland, "pep up the crowd" babyface duo that'll win the belts numerous times because there's so few good teams out there.
ReplyDeleteConsidering the age range here? Smash and crush.
ReplyDeleteNIIIIIIIIIICKY, KEEEEEEEEEENNY, MICKEEEEEEEEEEY, ............
ReplyDeleteI still hate HHH for that burial....
Was Tamina "Deuce" or "Domino"? I can't remember, Maggle!
ReplyDeleteMolly Holly. (as Mighty Molly)
ReplyDeleteI did LOL when they dumped them all into the OVW box.
ReplyDeleteI like to think I have fairly decent wrestling knowledge but I have absolutely no memory of Booker T and Test winning the tag titles.
ReplyDeleteGoing back to the deepest, darkest portion of my memory...I do not ever remember the Rico/Rikishi tag team. -_-
ReplyDeleteWhy? They needed to be dumped off and repackaged if any of them were going to succeed. They got some exposure on the main roster with the most ridiculous gimmick ever, and more than ran its course.
ReplyDeleteHow many people (other than us) remember that Dolph ZIggler was a member? If Spirit Squad doesn't get crapped out the way they did, Ziggler never makes to the main roster in his current incarnation.
Rikishi was Rico's surprise partner against Billy&Chuck and they had the titles for not so long. I don#t even remeber how they lost them....maybe back to Billy&Chuck?
ReplyDeleteBut why had it be HHH&HBK to make them look like idiots? That helped no one. Except the ego of Noseman.
ReplyDeleteI just want it noted that even on a randomized list, the two teams consisting completely of Black men are fighting each other. This is why we can't have nice things. Even the computers are fucking racist.
ReplyDeleteThat guy that hated cena!
ReplyDeleteBecause the Spirit Squad was brought in as a jokey backup for McMahon against HBK and Triple H. The story was DX vs. McMahons and the Spirit Squad were bit players.
ReplyDeleteThey still got to be in the ring - in their first program - with two main eventers. Sure, they got their asses kicked, but they were supposed to.
The latter probably looks better on a poster.
ReplyDeleteThats the funny thing about this. There are tag teams that I don't remember had the belts either. Seems like everyone is having the same experience.
ReplyDeleteThey were feuding with Big Show/Kane and then the legends. The alignment with McMahon came later, no?
ReplyDeleteThat was 2001 with the invasion, where the WWE guys won the WCW belts and the other way around.
ReplyDeleteTough luck for Rey Rey and Eddie. No way I'm not voting for Londrick!
ReplyDeleteI voted La Res because Kane is possibly my least favorite prominent wrestler and Big Show isn't Daniel Bryan so therefore unable to make me tolerate Kane (although, somehow, Xpac pulled this off too.)
ReplyDeletewhich led to HHH v Kane in a chain match so bad it's forgotten
ReplyDeleteColossal Connection!!!
ReplyDeleteEither. Or Both.
ReplyDeleteSo you're saying, 73 men.
ReplyDeleteCrash Holly. There no need for a tournament.
ReplyDelete
