Also, asking unqualified fans to 'decide for themselves' in an official statement is really fucking stupid. If the doctor that did lance Punk's staph infection testifies as such then they're fucked.
WWE and Punk don't know how to quit each other. They're like exes in a messy breakup trying to get each other's attention by boiling their pet rabbits.
If that doctor does exist and Punk is telling the truth, he should just countersue, this time for the medical incompetence, and win another big pot of money.
I know Vince is an arrogant fuck but I can't imagine he'd put himself out there like he has with such a statement without near assurance he can easily win this case.
This is so stupid on so many levels. Why would they ever publicly get involved with this? That makes absolutely no sense. They open up a huge can of worms by even commenting on this.
Another thought. What if current talent have to testify in court? Cena, Bryan, etc? What if they testify that they saw Punk with a staph infection and go against Amann's case? This has disaster written all over it.
"Hey Jerry, should we show a video of Punk at the rumble and ask fans to decide for themselves in regards to a lawsuit involving our medical care to independent contractors?"
What possibly gain could the wwe get by so aggressively commenting on this law suit right now? They are so stupid. This could blow up in their face so badly.
You make think is stupid, but it's typical WWE. They can't let a one on one match go to a clean finish without a run-in. They just can't help themselves, it's how they book things.
Probably the best description yet. Vince, an obsessive man, to say the least, seems to have been devastated by losing his relationship with Punk, while a guy like HHH would likely have been happy with letting him go do whatever,
I am surprised they waded in like this, which means to me (a) they have (or legit think they have) the goods on Punk, or (b) despite what I'm sure are impressive hourly billing rates, the WWE's lawyers must have flunked out of the Lionel Hutz College of Law (located at the Louvre), or (c) the WWE didn't run this by the lawyers 1st, or (d) their lawyers told the E to keep quiet, and someone in the company said, ahem, FUCK YOU.
Anyone know the law firm(s) involved? The better their ranking(s), the better the odds of the litigant's chance for success. Thus, if I were either party, I'd be rushing to ding the best ranked firm. Period.
You're probably trolling but based on my research -- you're not far off. A lot of settlements involve transferring stock options. It wouldn't be unreasonable for Punk to receive a lions share of WWE stock as a settlement.
Hey thread jack fg76 but are you planning on getting Shawn Michaels new book? It sounds amazing.
On reforming friendships when he returned to the WWE : “Nothing short of spectacular and that’s again, probably one of the… it’s always a toss-up about the single greatest thing about my salvation, but one of the things my faith has taught me is that everything in our lives is about relationships and to have the opportunity to be given a second change with these guys, especially again with like ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and the Undertaker; guys that we weren’t necessarily friends or hung out or anything like that, but we had a mutual respect for one another but obviously, because of the way I was before, it drove a wedge and didn’t give us an opportunity to have more, more than just that professional respect that you almost have to have and having the opportunity to go back and form real friendships with those guys and more importantly to be at a point in our lives where I can say ‘Hey, I’m going to do this book, and it’s in an area that you guys may or may not be real comfortable with; it’s about my faith. But I want to be transparent, I want to be open and honest and only if you can be open and honest about me, would you write a dedication or would you write something and I want you to be painfully honest. It’s ok’.
I didn’t want people so to speak; I could have reached out to friends: Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, my wife and kids; people I know who will write things about me, but I wanted these guys who could truly give a real assessment of the before and after and honestly, the things they wrote almost brought a tear to my eye. The fact that they said, ‘No, not only will I do it, but I’d be honored to do it’; that just meant the world to me because we have traveled some tough roads, these gentlemen and myself, to get where we’re at and now to have a friendship and a real relationship that goes so far past and beyond the wrestling business and even sort of the silliness that that business brings to your life. It’s nice to have something real and solid with those guys and again couldn’t be more thrilled with that.”
Wouldn't WWE be better off not acknowledging this at all?
Though they have a point, only baseball I saw was the one I was tossing to myself while the 14 Rumble was going on because I was bored out of fucking mind.
It's good to know WWE Legal team is as good at their job as the writing team. Heated lawsuit between a doctor and one of our biggest former stars? Let's jump face-first into it and make statements we might end up regretting!
What could possibly go wrong? The staph was under his belt line and he said as much. Lol. Do they show Punk's entire listless performance? Then again, if laying in the corner makes you sick, Roman Reigns probably has the Black Plague.
Because if they don't care about keeping their job getting fired or punished for testifying against them in court seems like fuel for another MASSIVE lawsuit?
But to all those without access to my super amazing internet, it's the video set to a bunch of songs about asses. We got Wiggle, Sir Mix-a-Lot, and of course the theme of Mr. Ass.
Because that statement is insinuating that Punk lied about mentioning his staph infection to Amann or even having one at all. If Punk did, and he discussed it with others in the locker room (or stated to them that he'd told Amann and the guy did nothing about it), then he's entitled to use the testimonies of those other wrestlers as evidence.
If this were a bullshit lawsuit with absolutely nothing on the line, McDevitt would probably bumble his way into Vince having complete control over the North American continent.
Seriously, any time something important happens their legal team sucks. But if it's bullshit, they win big like the WCW thing.
This is so stupid. I've now decided that HHH has been, all this time, on a mission from WCW to destroy the company and that this is part of it.
On the other side of this, once Vince has run himself out of business, will be Ted Turner shaking hands with HHH.
"Looks like I'm back in the rasslin' business, Vince!"
Not really, of course. But this is what I've chosen to imagine instead of this company being so stupid and inept that they arrive at this kind of crap without a decades long masterplan pushing them to.
After this statement the medical part is pretty clear cut now. Either Punk's new doctor cut out a staph infection after he left and it's in his medical records or Punk made it all up.
I think the interesting part of this case is going to be WWE having to talk about wrestler contracts. So even if everything the WWE medical team say is true and they win, I can't see how the whole independent contracter scam survives this kind of scrutiny.
I like how this basically boils down to "Punk alleges WWE did nothing about it" and WWE's response is "our records indicate we did nothing about it." I also like how they play the "what lump?" card when Punk will presumably have medical documentation to show said lump was drained, and has the scar to show where the lump was. I get WWE wanting to publicly back their doctors, but this just seems really clumsy of them. Maybe they figure they can preemptively goad Punk into coming public with making a statement, posting his own "proof" videos, and that this all will somehow lead to a settlement one way or the other that avoids them having to end up in court talking about their medical practices, concussions, independent contractors, etc.
Compiling a video effectively saying "what lump, we can't see a lump" and making it public is pathetic and childish. How anyone running a major company could think that is the correct way to go about things is mind-boggling
Nah. The WWE and Dr. Amman are trying to prove that Punk didn't do something. Punk producing a his doctor will prove there was something to be spoken about.
Their the one's trying to prove something by simply saying "Nuh-uh!" which is almost impossible.
Further, it won't be too much for Punk to produce the prescriptions for antibiotics and the reasons behind them on said prescription.
Obviously that assumes he's not lying. If he isn't, they are incredibly fucked. I have a feeling this will only lead to big problems for them.
What are the odds the doctor never told them what was going on? Further, what are the odds that any paper work was produced in any of these interactions?
I doubt Colt ends up being found liable, in that case he was just acting as a member of the press, essentially. He should probably add a "Opinions on The Art of Wrestling are those of the guest and blah blah" disclaimer before the podcast now.
As testimony to say whether Punk had been seen with signs of a lump or had told them he was trying to get help, I assume is the idea. But I doubt that can happen in this kind of lawsuit.
Punk definitely said that the growth was under his waistband and that's why it was causing so much pain.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the great WWE legal team in action! This could backfire on them in a big way.
ReplyDeleteAlso, asking unqualified fans to 'decide for themselves' in an official statement is really fucking stupid. If the doctor that did lance Punk's staph infection testifies as such then they're fucked.
ReplyDeleteExactly. The whole case is about medical incompetence, "hey fans, decide for yourselves!" just shows what a clown show WWE management really is.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I cracked up when I read that line. I was like "Are you kidding me?"
ReplyDeleteWWE and Punk don't know how to quit each other. They're like exes in a messy breakup trying to get each other's attention by boiling their pet rabbits.
ReplyDeleteIt's so stupid it makes look like a work.
ReplyDeleteIf that doctor does exist and Punk is telling the truth, he should just countersue, this time for the medical incompetence, and win another big pot of money.
ReplyDeleteI also recall that.
ReplyDeleteI know Vince is an arrogant fuck but I can't imagine he'd put himself out there like he has with such a statement without near assurance he can easily win this case.
ReplyDeleteThis is the same guy that lost the initials to the company....
ReplyDeleteIt's not his case, it's Amann that's suing Punk
ReplyDeleteAll this stuff about independent contractors is going to crumble if they lose this case. It has potentially massive repercussions for the company.
ReplyDeleteI get that, but he works for Vince and is assuredly using Vinces' lawyers.
ReplyDeleteQuite possibly, yes. I wonder when AJ will be back on TV...
ReplyDeleteAlthough it was a public company back then Vince certainly did not treat it as such.
ReplyDeleteYup yup. I completely agree.
ReplyDeletePhil has probably already dumped her for Bayley so she should be back for the 10 woman tag at Mania.
ReplyDelete"See for yourself"???? Wtf, I guess everyone who goes on wwe.com is a licensed physician.
ReplyDeleteBayley? I somehow doubt he's the hugging type.
ReplyDeleteI'm just astonished they would make this play. There is literally no upside to doing this.
ReplyDelete"All this stuff about independent contractors is going to crumble if they lose this case"
ReplyDeleteGOOD!
I like the thought that Colt Cabana's podcast is going to be used in court as evidence.
ReplyDeleteThis is so stupid on so many levels. Why would they ever publicly get involved with this? That makes absolutely no sense. They open up a huge can of worms by even commenting on this.
ReplyDeleteHugging always leads to more than hugging.
ReplyDeleteAnother thought. What if current talent have to testify in court? Cena, Bryan, etc? What if they testify that they saw Punk with a staph infection and go against Amann's case? This has disaster written all over it.
ReplyDeleteTheir case has to be really strong to do this.
ReplyDelete"Hey Jerry, should we show a video of Punk at the rumble and ask fans to decide for themselves in regards to a lawsuit involving our medical care to independent contractors?"
ReplyDelete"YES!"
What possibly gain could the wwe get by so aggressively commenting on this law suit right now? They are so stupid. This could blow up in their face so badly.
ReplyDeleteOkay, did they seriously put that on the website?
ReplyDeleteToo many closeups of CM Punk's ass in that video for me.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a doctor, but I play one in real life.
ReplyDeleteYou make think is stupid, but it's typical WWE. They can't let a one on one match go to a clean finish without a run-in. They just can't help themselves, it's how they book things.
ReplyDeleteThey shoulda called that video CM's Junk.
ReplyDeleteThey should have fans text to vote.
ReplyDeleteWhy in Earth do you think current talent would have to testify?
ReplyDeleteProbably the best description yet. Vince, an obsessive man, to say the least, seems to have been devastated by losing his relationship with Punk, while a guy like HHH would likely have been happy with letting him go do whatever,
ReplyDeleteI am surprised they waded in like this, which means to me (a) they have (or legit think they have) the goods on Punk, or (b) despite what I'm sure are impressive hourly billing rates, the WWE's lawyers must have flunked out of the Lionel Hutz College of Law (located at the Louvre), or (c) the WWE didn't run this by the lawyers 1st, or (d) their lawyers told the E to keep quiet, and someone in the company said, ahem, FUCK YOU.
ReplyDeleteWe're letting you, the WWE Universe, vote on the verdict of this lawsuit! Just download the WWE App and let your voice be heard!
ReplyDeleteI love how obsessed and butthurt jobber123 is about this.
ReplyDeleteSo....I guess this means that CM Punk WON'T be coming back?
ReplyDeleteHere's to hoping that they DO, then.
ReplyDeleteWill I have to pay $9.99 to watch the video evidence?
ReplyDeleteI think they borrowed that video from Pat Patterson's private collection
ReplyDeleteIt's free in the month of February!
ReplyDeleteNot when I hug my dad.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of a similiar joke. Too many ass shots lol
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the "discovered" Elvis song "recorded in 1976" and they had experts prove it was Elvis except it wasn't Elvis.
ReplyDeleteGood. Maybe a judge will officially proclaim Colt as an unfunny douche
ReplyDeleteWell, I saw the lump. It was right next to the image of Elvis that you can map out using the freckles on Punk's back.
ReplyDeleteOh, Phil. I really hope this all goes to trial cause I really wanna know what you can and can't prove.
Bah. Never confuse us with the facts.
ReplyDeleteAlso, fuck you.
PS - Did you know Fastlane is this weekend?
- WWE Creative
WWE.
ReplyDeleteNow.
Then.
Until we do enough stupid shit that we really fuck ourselves in the ass.
"Put that video footage up, dammit!"
ReplyDeleteTheir first counteroffer will be for punk to take on Kane and the big show
ReplyDeletePunk showed the scar, which was under his waistband, on Opie and Anthony, so basically WWE just put together a video of Punk's ass.
ReplyDeleteLive from the court....room!
ReplyDeleteWWE's lawyers aren't representing Amann.
ReplyDeleteDamn, WWE Zapruder'd the hell out of this. Did he staph infection during the Rumble? I thought it happened earlier.
ReplyDeleteIt started earlier and he still had it through the Rumble.
ReplyDeleteAnother fun little tidbit: WWE's doctor is straight up suing a UFC star right now.
ReplyDeleteI made that point the other night, Punk has UFC muscle behind him for this now.
ReplyDeleteAJ's testimony is going to be fascinating.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it isn't like he is married to a current talent or anything.
ReplyDeleteSo in what hilarious way is this going to backfire on the WWE?
ReplyDeleteDoes CM Punk somehow accidentally gain ownership of the company due to McDevitt's asinine lawyering?
So hoping that punk loses cabana a shitload of money because he can't stop running his mouth.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who's about to start law school I can say that this case will have long term ramifications based on what I've been reading so far
ReplyDeleteHa, didn't think of that.
ReplyDeleteCM Punk's Ass: The Movie. Starring: CM Punk's Ass
ReplyDeleteGeez, even Chris Amann is behind in pop culture. Punk's interview on Cabana's podcast was MONTHS ago.
ReplyDeleteHe really is a WWE doctor.
Anyone know the law firm(s) involved? The better their ranking(s), the better the odds of the litigant's chance for success. Thus, if I were either party, I'd be rushing to ding the best ranked firm. Period.
ReplyDeleteMore I think about it, yeah - when Amann appeared on TV last, the fans started chanting Z-Pak at him, and it probably was the last straw, lol.
ReplyDeleteYou're probably trolling but based on my research -- you're not far off. A lot of settlements involve transferring stock options. It wouldn't be unreasonable for Punk to receive a lions share of WWE stock as a settlement.
ReplyDeleteI thought I remembered hearing it was the reverse from a couple places.
ReplyDeleteCM Punk: The Movie! ME on all the turnbuckles! Superstar Ice Cream Bars!
ReplyDeleteHey thread jack fg76 but are you planning on getting Shawn Michaels new book? It sounds amazing.

ReplyDeleteIf Punk really is full of shit, then WWE has every right to come out with all guns blazing.
ReplyDeleteHopefully WWE books this lawsuit better than they have the last year of television, or else they're in deep shit.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't WWE be better off not acknowledging this at all?
ReplyDeleteThough they have a point, only baseball I saw was the one I was tossing to myself while the 14 Rumble was going on because I was bored out of fucking mind.

ReplyDeleteThat video they posted is just begging for farts to be dubbed over it. Or swanky porno music and Pat Patterson commentary.
ReplyDeleteHe ends up owning the Big Show's house
ReplyDeleteWhat could possibly go wrong? The staph was under his belt line and he said as much. Lol. Do they show Punk's entire listless performance? Then again, if laying in the corner makes you sick, Roman Reigns probably has the Black Plague.
ReplyDeleteWatching the video I thought to myself, "I wonder what Farva thinks of..."
ReplyDeleteAnd now I'm sad.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31EAOmQK1ts (NSFS)
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a TERRIBLE idea by WWE's part.
Vince liked Punk in his own way.
ReplyDeleteHunter...does not.
Never challenge a Jew when law is on the line!
ReplyDeleteBecause if they don't care about keeping their job getting fired or punished for testifying against them in court seems like fuel for another MASSIVE lawsuit?
ReplyDeleteToo many?
ReplyDeleteOr too few?
"Put together"?
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that video was made a long time ago.
Taken down already.
ReplyDeleteWhat did they say that they might regret? Do you suppose that Punk can present proof to back up his claims?
ReplyDeleteI can see it fine, fix your internet.
ReplyDeleteBut to all those without access to my super amazing internet, it's the video set to a bunch of songs about asses. We got Wiggle, Sir Mix-a-Lot, and of course the theme of Mr. Ass.

Bayley's dating an indy wrestler named Aaron Solo.

Doubt Cabana would lose anything, Punk bought Mercury a house, pretty sure he'll cover his best mate in the unlikely event they lose.
ReplyDeleteThis is awfully carny of Vince.
ReplyDeleteIf everything the WWE says is true, it has no effect on them using "independent contractors." It's not really going to either way, actually.
ReplyDeleteThe WWE provides a medical team to their workers. If Punk never came to them about the lump on his back, that's that.
Not at all. HHH always hated Punk, according to Phil. McMahon sounds like the absentee, control freak husband who can't stand being jilted.
ReplyDeleteSince Punk and WWE and quit each other, the title of this video should be: 50 Shades of Gay...
ReplyDeleteDude, they lost the freakin' letters that everyone knew them by, and had to spend hours censoring "WWF" off of any release.
ReplyDeleteI like how this basically boils down to "Punk alleges WWE did nothing about it" and WWE's response is "our records indicate we did nothing about it." ReplyDeleteThat has never stopped Phil Brooks.
ReplyDeleteI guess your dad and my dad are different kinds of huggers then.

ReplyDeleteMaybe they Better Call Saul?
ReplyDeleteThat house is very big in real life. You have to see it in person to appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteGetting there...
ReplyDeleteI bet WWE releases a GTV video of Punk walking around the locker room naked at t the Royal Rumble with zoom in shots on his backside.
ReplyDeleteDid you actually read what you're replying to?
ReplyDeleteThey were not married at the time and as a result, medical privacy laws would prevent her from being party to his treatment.
ReplyDeleteNo, the question is "why would they be called in the first place?"
ReplyDeleteMedical privacy laws and the doctor's own records makes that testimony inadmissible and irrelevant.
ReplyDeleteI doubt Colt ends up being found liable, in that case he was just acting as a member of the press, essentially. He should probably add a "Opinions on The Art of Wrestling are those of the guest and blah blah" disclaimer before the podcast now.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a team of expert already found proof of the Staph Infection : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGbkurdziFg&feature=youtu.be
ReplyDeleteThis just in: Dozens of fat pathetic neckbeard internet wrestling fans suddenly got law degrees.
ReplyDeleteAs testimony to say whether Punk had been seen with signs of a lump or had told them he was trying to get help, I assume is the idea. But I doubt that can happen in this kind of lawsuit.
ReplyDelete
