You've been pretty quiet regarding Big Brother on the blog. What did you think about the Triple Eviction episode?
Usually twits can spice up a season but it really feels like BBCan has interfered way too much in the game this season, and it is nearly impossible to play strategically with all these unexpected twists without just getting lucky. I'd be surprised if BBUS Derrick could survive under all these ridiculous twists and interference.
Your thoughts?
I'm a day behind on viewing because I don't have cable any more, so first up thanks for not spoiling anything.
This season has been getting progressively more annoying as it goes on, mostly because they're all a bunch of boring slobs who suck at comps and are handing the game to Zach and cowering in fear from him. In general I don't mind producer interference if it means:
a) Messing with the houseguests to punish them or just to drive them nuts. Good examples would be the challenge where one person had to break into the vault and another person had to keep them from getting in, and neither person knew about the other. The rodent scare from BBUS last season was one of the best ones they've done, as another example. Making them work for furnishings and basic necessities was a GENIUS idea, and they dropped it after one episode!
b) Twists that are fair to everyone and reside within the rules of the game. The ridiculous "double veto" fan-voting twist this season that production was barely even able to EXPLAIN before it went into effect was one of the worst ones ever.
So yeah, there's only two weeks left and I'll finish it, but GOD has this season sucked.
I just finished watching last night's episode. I might be in the minority, but I absolutely hate it when the rules of the game get changed. Double evictions are fine as long as there is a POV in the 2nd one so at least the two nominees get a chance to take themselves off just like any other week. Triple evictions are just pushing it. Trying to get someone to take $10,000 to quit the game is pushing it. Letting the audience pick and choose who they want on the block or who they want to give a secret HOH or POV power to is awful. Whatever happened to just playing the game straight with MAYBE one secret power during the course of the game, not 10 of them per season.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, the "instant eviction" one from this season as well, AWFUL. Totally unfair. Kevin had no chance to think about his strategy and the victims had no chance to defend themselves.
ReplyDeleteI've been watching Survivor and Amazing Race this season (can't stand Big Brother, any version -- they have WAY too many episodes on each week in the States), and they both suck this season.
ReplyDeleteI think (hope?) we're coming up on the waning days of competition reality TV. There's only so much they can do with it now, and it's been done to death.
This is the "introduce a fat kid" stage of reality TV. They're just trying to keep things interesting.
ReplyDeleteBig Brother is a thing people still care about? Holy shit, that garbage got old by 2003
ReplyDeleteMy buddy's mom used to be OBSESSED with the show, even watching all the after dark stuff. Now not even she's worrying about it anymore...
ReplyDeleteI think it (and all reality shows. And, shit, WRESTLING) is more force of habit than anything.
ReplyDeleteI still watch Hell's Kitchen even though I realized that show was stupid by the second season. I don't really pay attention to it, but I still watch it.
Also the host, Arisa Cox. I'd hit it, but she doesn't have Julie's presence.
ReplyDeleteSurvivor isn't too bad, I like Amazing Race cause at least there's a sense of competition there.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy big brother but I've only seen two seasons of it.
ReplyDeleteI think BB Can is much better than the US version at least the twists aren't as lame as in the states. The triple eviction was interesting as it seemed to confuse everyone and no one seemed to know who to vote for.
ReplyDeletewhy wouldn't you have cheap basic Canadian cable? bundled with a good down load plan, Canadian wwe network you would be saving money. instead of coming off as cheap and not with the times
ReplyDeleteLOL - what?!? Scott not having cable *is* with the times. Internet streaming is where it's at man!
ReplyDeleteYeah, but BIG BROTHER?
ReplyDeleteonly thing I hated about Amazing Race was the stupid point every couple shows where they would have to go to a business or something and it wouldnt be opening for hours, thereby basically resetting the whole race as everybody gets there before it opens.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was fine until they started having it on like 14 times a week.
