24/7

"Hey Scott, I had a quick question for you and the blogsters. I recentlysubscribed to WWE 24/7 and I was wondering how things were added onthere. For example, this month it says "WEEK 1" spans from 8/28 to 9/3.I was wondering if everything was added on 8/28, or if it was addedbetween the two dates. I was also wondering what versions of thingswere being shown, for instance, SummerSlam 1996 is on there right now, would that be the live ppv version or the commercial releaseversion...Also while Im writing this, I was wondering if I could get afree copy of your newest book, since I've been a supporter of yours, spanning all the way back to the rantsylvania days and I have your 3other books. Hey...you cant blame a guy for trying right? Thanks Scott"

Ho ho, pretty sneaky at the end there. I do have a whole bunch of copies and I'll probably do some sort of contest once my friends and relatives have siphoned all the books they need off me, but that probably won't be a while.

Anyway, past about 1995 there was little difference between the live PPV and commercial versions of shows, because everything had to conform to the 2:40 standard that PPV companies set anyway. So I wouldn't worry too much about that. Besides, Coliseum video was still distributing WWE stuff as of 1996, and I can't see WWE using the Coliseum versions, because that's just how they roll.

As for the other parts of the question, I've never used 24/7, so I couldn't say.

  1. I'm a Comcast subsciber and am trying to talk my roommate into getting 24/7. I'll let you know how it works once we get it.

  2. 24/7 Updates every Sunday Night at midnight. That is when the new weeks start.

Generally 24/7 shows the PPV version of stuff. I've noticed they definately don't show the clipped commercial releases of old NWA/WCW shows...

  3. Apologies if this is a silly question but I've never used 24/7 either and don't really understand how it works. Is it a schedule of programming like a normal TV Channel or is it something where you can choose what to watch and when? Would it be possible (if StarChoice would pick it up) to see it on satellite or would you have to have digital cable to see it? Thanks to anyone who can clear up my confusion. :)

  4. For the original question: Everything is added at the beginning of the week (every Sunday/Monday at midnight) with some new content every week. They play the full pay per view versions of events as last month that showed the UK ppv "One Night Only" and it included the Bret/Undertaker, Tiger Ali Singh and Patriot/Flash Funk matches that were edited off the VHS version in America.

For Darryl, 24/7 is where you can chose what to watch and when out of its lineup of programming. You would have to get digital cable to watch it.

  5. It's a bit of both...it is an "OnDemand" service, which means that the availible progamming changes from time to time, but whatever is availible can be viewed just like a DVD for as long as it is on there...I have Comcast cable in PA and the cost is $8 a month...I am waiting for my new billing cycle to start, and then ordering it ASAP...

  6. I'm almost ashamed to admit that I ordered the Canadian version of WWE24/7. At times, it's great for old-school stuff, but I'm really disappointed by the very limited number of things added.

I don't know of any reason why only there isn't a constant library of older PPV's available, for instance. It's not as if the E will lose money by putting WCW or ECW PPVs from the '90s out there for people who are already paying money per month for the 24/7 network, since I don't think they're selling a lot of those PPVs on DVD now.

I don't know if there's a different American version of 24/7, but here's hoping you folks in the States are getting a better deal.

  7. For the original questions, everything is added on Sunday/Monday at Midnight, so all of Week 1 was loaded in on the 28th. Also, they show full ppv versions of events, last month for example they showed the UK ppv "One Night Only" with the matches (including the WWF Title match between Bret Hart vs. Undertaker) that was not on the US video version.

For Darryl, you can watch what to watch when you want to watch it as long as its programmed in and yes, you would have to get digital cable

  8. 24/7 is loaded with AWA stuff. I need to get signed up ASAP. A 90 minute AWA special an old episode of AWA TV and NWA Starrcade 85 (Even though I've seen it before.). 24/7 has some cool shit on it.

  9. Until I get a job, I'm having fun watching the free previews, about 5 hours of stuff every month, I even watched a Lex Luger-Rick Steiner match that didn't suck.

  10. I noticed that they just updated and now I don't have any free preview stuff, but I did see that Luger/Steiner match and the pre fight interview was hilarious. The same episode also had a great cruiserweight match and a match between Savio Vega and Farooq in the Raw section. They also had SummerSlam 92 in the free preview section. I was wondering if they would update the previews once a month as well.

  11. I got 24/7 last week when I finally got Digital cable. For some reason Cogeco (in Canada) has the system a bit messed up for "The Big Ones". They seem to not have everything that should be there. I think this week, Starrcade 85, SummerSlam 96, Judgment Day 2006, and a house show from 88 are supposed to be there. All I have is the 88 house show. Other than that, I love it and have no problem with the alleged "limited content". I do wish they would hurry through the Monday Night War though.. waiting until the end of the month for just two episodes is too slow. I kinda cheated and watched the free MNW preivew since it skipped ahead to the 9/23 Raw and showed the entire Heel JR promo with fake Razor (good stuff).

  12. I still have preview stuff, just watched NWA, Superstar Billy Graham v Rocky King and Ole Anderson's heel turn, and some cool promos by Flair, Rhodes and Hayes, will catch the MNW preview tonight or tomorrow.

  13. Thanks for the information, jcgiles. :) Can you record things off digital cable or is there no way to save them? Do they show programs straight though and have commericals between programs or do the PPVs get shown with commercial breaks added?

  14. This isn't The Fight Network - it's an On Demand service. There are no commercials (except for the occassional brief ads for upcoming PPVs or the 24/7 features before your chosen program starts). And yes, you can record of digital cable.
