In The Year 2000…

Hey Scott,
With all the WrestleMania talk I figured this might be a good blog discussion...
WrestleMania 2000 is always widely panned as one of the worst of the lot, yet the year 2000 in WWE is one of the best in history.  In particular Backlash, the month after WrestleMania, is considered a top 10 level PPV in the company's history.  So say the entire card for Backlash actually happened a month earlier at WrestleMania 16, could we safely say that it would be heralded as one of the best of all time?
It is still ridiculous to think that WrestleMania 2000 didn't feature one male singles bout while the next month featured a super hot Rock-HHH one-on-one, a fun Canadian Chrises bout, another spirited Hardcore Title sprint and even underrated bouts for the Light Heavyweight and European Championships. The only thing from WM 2000 that would be sorely missed would be the original three way tat ladder bout, but that could be worked in somehow perhaps.

Yeah, WM2000 was a rare gigantic mis-step in the otherwise awesome year they were having, and I’m still not sure why.  The Backlash card featured the logical blowoff of HHH v. Rock, Jericho v. Benoit, Kurt Angle v. “Real American” Big Show, and as noted the underrated secondary title matches.  I think you’d have to tweak the card a little bit to make it WRESTLEMANIA MOMENT worthy, but Show as Hogan was pretty awesome and it wouldn’t take MUCH tweaking.  It’s certainly one of my favorite PPVs of all time, and yeah, it would be a top-tier WM, I’d bet.
