The 6th Annual WrestleZone Tournament

I'm sure all of you at some point have thought about who the best wrestler ever is. Well on WrestleZone Forums, every year we try to figure out who he is. We take 128 of the greatest wrestlers of all time from around the world and rank then like the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Over the next 6 weeks, we'll narrow down the field is down to one. This is the biggest event of the forums and I'm personally running the tournament for the third straight year. We hope you'll join us for a very fun event and some excellent discussion.

Here's a link to the main tournament section of the forums:

And the brackets:

Please keep in mind that in order to vote in a poll, we require you to have ten non-spam posts. This is done to prevent people from flooding the polls in someone's favor unfairly.

The first set of matches goes up on Monday afternoon.

If you have any questions feel free to ask me here.

  1. IWC best wrestler ever tournament means Ric Flair or Steve Austin wins. Probably Ric Flair. Tournament done.

  2. Whole direction of this tournament is decided by what is meant by the "best". Using different arguments, you could be right in saying Lou Thesz, Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin or The Rock win that argument. Criteria decides all.

  3. That's a big part of the idea.  It leads to some very interesting arguments/debates.

  4. If it's deciding the best ever, why do they redo it every year? Just in case someone new became the best ever that year? I'm sure that never happens; to some people, older will always mean better, no matter anything else.

I still want another one of those poll-tournaments like Scott did on here with the tag teams. Best wrestler seems like it'd be too obvious, but one where all his 5 star matches compete, or one where people vote on the best storyline ever, would be really cool.

  5. Is there someone from today who you feel is the best wrestler ever?

  6. Different people come to the forums.  It's interesting to hear their opinions and how they change.  Until last year there had been a different winner every year.  The first two winners (Shawn and Undertaker) were active when they won.  All of the winners were active in the 90s.

  7. Not necessarily. Although I've said before that Punk might be my all time favorite and people look at me like I have three heads, even when everyone loves him now. It's like if you didn't grow up loving someone, they're always second best to the childhood favorites, and I think that's a reductive way of thinking.

Although FWIW, my 4 favorite wrestlers of all time have all been involved with WWE in some form in the last year, so they are still possible to to do more to sway my opinion to the postive or negative.

  8. Can you explain why Ric Flair is seeded 14th?  Seems incredibly low.

  9. The way we seeded it was by having a select group of some of our better and more knowledgeable posters make lists of their top 128.  I gave 128 points to first place, 127 to second and so on and so forth.  They were seeded in order of total points.  Flair received one point less than Angle.

  10. Fair enough. It's all subjective anyway. I wouldn't put Punk in my top 50 all-time, and I consider myself a pretty big fan of his work.

  11. If someone wants to set it up for me I'd be happy to run another one.

  12.  Im gonna guess that El Dandy was ranked 129th, barely missing the cut
