UFC 146 - Old School Awesome

Holy cow, tonight's UFC was old school heavyweight beatdowns in the kind of way that people have seemingly been clamoring for in a while.  It was the all-heavyweight show, and 4 of the 5 main card fights ended in relatively quick knockouts, including Cain Velasquez beating the ever-loving FUCK out of Bigfoot Silva and splattering his blood all over the ring, and JDS kicking Frank Mir's ass and knocking him the fuck out.  Plus Roy Nelson's cartoonish knockout of Dave Herman will probably make best-of DVDs for a while.  Obviously not a great technical show, but for a "Get wasted with friends and watch guys kick the shit out of each other" show, this one was hard to beat.  Thumbs up!

  1. Watching bigfoots bloods squirt out like a gyser and pool in the middle of the ring did take me back to the brutal old days

  2. Just watching the UFC 146 post-show press conference, and a question was asked of Dana about Brock being in the audience...Dana alluded that there is a possibility of Brock returning to the cage.

  3. Only saw Dos Santos/Mir. Great TKO, pretty boring fight otherwise.

  4. Man that Velasquez fight was a bloodbath. Can't believe they took so long to stop it. Silva was outclassed there.

  5. The finish to JDS/Mir was so embarrassing. Mir needs to hang em up.

  6. Yeah, I'm usually not a fan of the heavyweight division, but that was a great show. Lots of great beatdowns and the big names of the division were there and did work. Also, the upside to a KO-heavy card is that the show doesn't take fuckin' forever to finish. Whenever JDS/Cain happens again, SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

  7. That giant pool of blood was starting to make me feel queasy...flashbacks to when I was six rows back ringside at Judgment Day 2004 with Eddie's epic blade job and seeing his blood all over the guardrail right in front of me.

  8. Funny you say that.  Check out this interview we conducted with Don Frye before Cain/JDS I.  Skip to the 7:00 mark for the good stuff.

  9. UFC 146 was a fun show.

Stefan Struve continues to impress me every time out. The kid is young and still improving. Time to give him a stiffer test. Frank Mir, maybe?

Still not sure about Stipe Miocic. Give him a guy like Pat Barry?

Roy Nelson is just, well, Roy Nelson.  Always fun, but will probably never be a contender.

Even though the cut bothered Bigfoot to the point he wasn't able to concentrate, Cain was not going to be denied last night.  That was a statement.

Why Mir didn't attempt another takedown is beyond me.  JDS is just too good standing, and unless Overeem gets his shit straightened out, nobody is going to out strike him anytime soon.
