Feels like 2 months since No Surrender because of the Lawler heart attack. Wondering if the match quality will hold up now that the BFG series is over.
"Popular" opinion means little to me. It's insultingly easy to define/sway, and especially on the web, even easier to fake.
And Dredd's just another "remake". Maybe not in the same vein as Star Trek or Sherlock Holmes, but Hollywood's really run out of original ideas these last few years.
Was there a rumour that he messed up the finish? I didn't see No Surrender so I have no clue if it looked botched, but if so - jeez. That's gotta suck.
Am I the only one who really dislikes Chavo? He's not a great worker, his moveset sucks, he gets no heat other than leeching off of Eddie... I guess I can stand him as a tag team guy, but man he's bland and boring.
Oops, no "Mister" for Tazz? That's one no vote. I'm also waiting for the first true Gut Check squash, where the poor sap doesn't even come back next week.
I dig these Gut Check videos. As a lifelong resident of Mass, I wish the guy the best of luck and judging by the clips in the video, he is already better in the ring than Kris Lewie.
This is my first time watching Impact in several months.
I know it's been said before but this shows flows incredibly well. They go from a little bit of X division action to some heavyweights, follow that up with some storyline segments and then move to the women's division. The shit ain't perfect but at least it seems to have a rhythm to it unlike being bombarded with endless recap packages and the same dudes appearing three times a show.
"Presenting" any title belt should involve said belt upside the head of the champ.... but a normal beatdown is acceptable too. And applause to the Tara chant/cheering section.
I don't think he's bad, but his WWE run probably killed any credibility he would've had. I like him as a not heavily pushed midcarder and he's fine as a tag team wrestler, but aside from his name he's nothing terribly special, and they made him into quite the joke in his last couple of years in WWE.
You know what I would like to see? Enough wrestlers get together against Impact, take over Xplosion and spin it off into its own show like they wee supposed to do with the nWo and Thunder or Smackdown and WCW
1. He's the most over wrestler in the company. 2. Solidifies the BFG series. I would hate a bait and switch after 3 months of tourney. 3. Puts hm over strong. There's no question he's your #1 contender. 4. Aries-Hardy could be interesting. Hardy is more of a "face in peril" character, but it's a fresh match up and I want the title to stay on Aries, so I like his chances vs. Hardy.
TNA Title: Hardy vs Aries Tag Team Titles: TWTTCotW vs Styles/Angle vs Chavo/Hernandez X-Div Title: Ion vs ????? KO Title: Tess vs Tara Grudge match: Storm vs RoodeSomething with Aces
Not bad compared to WWEs (half (or more of) the card scheduled the night of the show)
Also, notice how Aries rarely wrestles on Impact as did Roode before him. There really is no need to have your champion outthere unless he's going to be put over. It's a waste of time for him, the title gets devalued and makes him seem way less important.
The Aces and Eights stuff is getting stagnant. I understand people's point about a slow build but the past few weeks haven't really felt like they have been building to anything but rather seeming like they are stuck in neutral. How many weeks in a row can you have people pointing fingers at each other without any other progress.
I did like how they actually had Tara put the title around her waist, played her music, Tara left the ring and Tess celebrated. It seemed like an obvious set up but went on long enough you thought it was legit - until it happened.
This x 1000. It should be special when your World Champion wrestles on free TV He can do interviews, but no wrestling, You have the X Division and TV belt going to waste..defend those titles.
In the grand scheme of things it wasn't anything we didn't already know...but tonight seemed to point the direction in it being people within TNA being involved, rather than some outsider rebel group. I mean, wrestling 101 says someone from TNA was going to be involved, but this is the first time Ace's clearly said so...
OK,I'm no mark. After years of watching wrestling,I think most of us here know how the moves are done, and admit, back in our teen years most of us tried the moves on each other. Backbreaker-the guy's feet hit first,bodyslam-the guy pushes down on your leg and jumps,chokeslam-you hold him up with your other hand,punch-you stomp your foot,etc.etc. Even non fans know most of the tricks,it's why they make fun of you for watching fake bullshit (instead of Jersey Shore lol).
That being said, how the hell do they fake Sonjay Dutt's moonsault double foot stomp. That's the first time I ever saw that move, and it blew me away.
You mean being Tom Brady doesn't trump winning the championship? Eli might have won the championship but does any of that matter if Brady doesn't think Eli's better than him? Maybe this year the Patriots will be eliminated early and they can just play the Pro Bowl featuring Brady in the Superbowl's time slot.
I think that's one where the guy taking it just has to suck it up, he's going to feel it. But if I had to guess, I'd say that they have strong abs and flex prior to contact, while his momentum takes him back away from his opponent rather than straight down...although I'm pretty sure I've seen him come straight down. It might just be one of those "this ain't ballet" moves.
A nice fight between two fat black ladies... oh wait, I'm on truTV, not Spike.
ReplyDeleteI like how they have promos during the commecial breaks of this "Jail" show. The Zema Ion promo was solid and he is a good heel.
ReplyDeleteif only they could have other wrestlers wear wigs and wrestle for him.
ReplyDeleteFeels like 2 months since No Surrender because of the Lawler heart attack. Wondering if the match quality will hold up now that the BFG series is over.
ReplyDeleteand we open with Aries putting over the belt, isn't that interesting
ReplyDeleteWish Hardy was still selling the shoulder injury, but unfortunately he isn't Bret Hart.
ReplyDelete"I've been beating you for 15 freaking years!" Bully Ray might cut the best promo in wrestling right now.
ReplyDeleteLOL at Bully Ray selling Hardy taking his shirt off.
ReplyDeleteWhat just happened with Jeff's Music cutting of Bully? a well Bully is still fucking awesome
ReplyDeletesecond best sell of someone taking there shirt off I've ever seen, first is HHH and Mankind
ReplyDeleteI loved, "Don't take that shirt off!" Ray and Aries both did a great job of putting Hardy over without him having to expose himself on the mic.
ReplyDeleteBTW does anyone know if Scott Reads these threads :p
ReplyDeleteoh yeah, X Division time
ReplyDeleteMiscue I bet.
ReplyDeleteBully Ray is awesome. Was hoping he'd get the title shot at BFG.
ReplyDeleteThat double stomp is sick.
ReplyDeleteyes,yes it is
ReplyDeleteawesome camera work on that rope break
ReplyDeleteWho has the hard-on for Ion backstage? Sonjay or Kenny King would both make better champions. Especially King.
ReplyDeleteHe is a place holder till Sorenson gets his revenge
ReplyDeleteLate to the party, damn traffic.
ReplyDeleteThe World Tag Team Champions of the World strike again!
ReplyDeleteAnd now I know who Zema really reminds me of. Carlito. Facials are almost like an identical twin brother of Carlito's..
I gather, but who likes Sorenson over King?
ReplyDeleteIon is a great heel but nothing special in the ring.
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome every time!
ReplyDeleteAnd that match did a good job of building up Sonjay as a star while still putting over Ion [well... maybe not "putting over", it was a total squash]
Borderlands 2 in FIVE DAYS!
ReplyDeleteComing back from a broken neck is pretty much $$$ no matter who it is
ReplyDeleteDaniels and Kaz with Hogan ... now THAT is a backstage skit. These guys rule so hard.
ReplyDeleteI love their current relation with Hulk
ReplyDeleteTNA. It's a built-in revenge story. Why waste it? Let's just hope Sorensen gets better soon so this isn't drawn out for too many more months.
ReplyDeleteTotally blew that, especially considering Tenay immediately said "WOW THE REMATCH IS ON" when there was no answer given by Bully at all...
ReplyDeleteHe did kinda say "Hey my shoulder is much better" so he DID bring it up at least.
ReplyDeleteKaz-AJ should be good.
ReplyDeleteThey were good but what happens if they both lose their matches?
ReplyDeleteBuff Bagwell disagrees.
ReplyDeleteHuh, wasn't brisco one of the masked men?
ReplyDeleteSensing an Angle heel turn on AJ.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember anything about Sorenson except that he was mediocre for an X Guy.
ReplyDeleteJoe's right. Put the belt on someone better Ion blows.
i did say "pretty much" lol
ReplyDeleteThat's what I thought. And why would Angle or anyone else know who he is? Am I missing something.
ReplyDeleteSets up a big BFG match
ReplyDeleteYES BOBBY ROODE TIME!!!
ReplyDeleteBuff Bagwell was worthless before the neck... and blew the "comeback" for another nWo pop.
ReplyDeleteRoode is '99-'00 HHH-good as a heel right now.
ReplyDelete3 way!
ReplyDeleteHEEEEEEEEE's BAAAAAAAAAAAAACK
ReplyDeleteThat's a Ric Flair quality suit Roode's sporting.
ReplyDeleteHe was introduced a couple of weeks ago as Wes Brisco. While he might be one of the masked men, he's not been IDed as one, at least in storyline.
ReplyDeleteInfidels, Don't tell him to go home, He's Awesome
ReplyDeleteI love the "trade punches" spot, always have. Reminds me of many Austin grudge matches.
ReplyDeleteHell yeah. Fuck all that talking bullshit.
ReplyDeleteOh no he is choking him with a tie is TNA gonna fire him xD
ReplyDeleteRoode delivered a good promo.
ReplyDeleteDoes he ever do otherwise?
ReplyDelete"The shirt pissed him off."
ReplyDeleteKaz and Daniels may be the MVPs of this show...
God, I love sub-20 minute promos that end in violence instead of skipping.
ReplyDeletei agree hes pretty much all gimmick, but i think he has shown a lot in these last two matches.
ReplyDeleteLET"S LIGHT IT UP! LIGHTITUPLIGHTITUPLIGHTITUP
ReplyDeleteThey're the MVP's of every show...in the world!!
ReplyDeletecalling for a match next, probobly either Knock outs or with the WTTCOTW
ReplyDeleteMeh. Still wish Beer Money were back together. I'd pay for them against TWTTCotW.
ReplyDeleteYou know what, I was with you Dodge... until you brought in Brady. F*** you for that one.
ReplyDeleteAnd did we REALLY need Judge Dredd in 3D, minus Stallone? Can something suck more than the classic SNES game version?
Thank God Imapct is watchable, because these commercials mostly SUCK.
Called it
ReplyDeleteKazarian ain't winning this clean...
ReplyDeletewait to approve, i thought Ray Hardy was set Tenay :$
ReplyDeleteDredd 3D is at 91% on Rotten Tomatoes right now. The lack of Stallone is a selling point for me.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Hogan's participation in that, too. "This tastes like gasoline!" - "There's some protein in the bottom drawer!"
ReplyDeleteI would love to see those Sonic guys get in a fiery car crash.
ReplyDeletedon't hold back now, tell us how you really feel
ReplyDeleteYep, looks good and violent. Stallones Dredd was horrific.
ReplyDeleteWow. Dangerous botch.
ReplyDeleteTwo responses:
ReplyDelete"Popular" opinion means little to me. It's insultingly easy to define/sway, and especially on the web, even easier to fake.
And Dredd's just another "remake". Maybe not in the same vein as Star Trek or Sherlock Holmes, but Hollywood's really run out of original ideas these last few years.
OUTSIDE MONKEY FLIP!
ReplyDeleteThat was sick...what do you even call that??
ReplyDeleteHow is Kaz moving after that 0_0
ReplyDeleteI'd rather reserve that fate for the freecreditreport guys... BOTH bands. Preferably a head-on crash between their tour buses at 50+.
ReplyDeletePainful.
ReplyDeletethat's 3
ReplyDeleteAnd there's one half of the three-way. Now for Chavo/Hernandez to finish it.
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to do more than like this?
ReplyDeleteJoe Park is so F'N AWESOME
ReplyDeleteAces and Eight's progress too
Joe Park on the case!
ReplyDeleteI <3 Joseph Park.
ReplyDeleteUnless Abyss pops out of Mr. Park... Brooke's screwed.
ReplyDeleteWow. Joseph Park is a total creep. Who would've known?
ReplyDeleteTwo responses:
ReplyDeleteRotten Tomatoes is a reliable compilation of critical reviews, not popular opinion.
And I'm all for remakes of movies that didn't do the material justice the first time around.
Joe Park holds a victory over Bully Ray i will have you know
ReplyDeleteSo either Park is in on A&8 and will screw over Hogan...or A&8 will try to attack and he will "Hulk" out.
ReplyDelete"Abyss" out?
ReplyDeleteOk the eye makeup is kinda cool.
ReplyDeleteJeff should start snoring
ReplyDeleteI like Bully better but Jeff better win or the BFG series was entirely pointless
ReplyDeleteOkay, did Jeff screw up again? Or are we resetting Sunday?
ReplyDeleteI don't think Aces and Eights are too impressed with your "logic".
ReplyDeleteGAGA!
ReplyDeleteThe "Prospect" got a promotion! Vice President, very nice.
ReplyDeleteAgree. However, like someone said, if Hardy screwed up, this might be the way to take it off of him.
ReplyDeletesomeone fill me in, do some people think Jeff F'd up the no surrender finish or something?
ReplyDeleteI missed the Hogan promo, what'd I miss?
ReplyDeleteWas there a rumour that he messed up the finish? I didn't see No Surrender so I have no clue if it looked botched, but if so - jeez. That's gotta suck.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking something more real life... if Hardy gets in trouble again before BFG, there goes that main event.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats to Christy: She's 2 for 2 tonight. It IS the World Tag Team Champions of the World.
ReplyDeleteDaniels with the belt as phallus. Love this guy.
ReplyDeleteFrom that promo, it's obvious who Aces and Eights are:
ReplyDeleteThe Big Show, Tom Brandy, Violent J, Matt Striker, Husky Harris and Barry Windham.
Wait... are we completely writing off Gunner and Kid Kash? If so, no problem, but I don't think TNA's gonna kill it that fast.
ReplyDeleteThis might not end up being a three-way tag title match after all.
Hogan threatens Aces, says the building is locked down, Aces threaten Hogan, ask him if they were locked out or in.
ReplyDeleteTazz, hush. Give yourself a minute, and start over.
ReplyDelete"A rat desperated in a corner" huh?
ReplyDeleteWow...Taz is worse than Cole this week.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one who really dislikes Chavo? He's not a great worker, his moveset sucks, he gets no heat other than leeching off of Eddie... I guess I can stand him as a tag team guy, but man he's bland and boring.
ReplyDeleteI hate 3 ways...unless it is me and two broads.......BOOYAHKASHA!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a reward for Bully resigning.
ReplyDeletePut Jeff in the X division or give him the TV belt for awhile.
This Gut Check dude sounds like Cliff Klaven from Cheers.
ReplyDeleteHe's a good enough wrestler for what they're asking him to do, be part of a tag team.
ReplyDeleteOops, no "Mister" for Tazz? That's one no vote. I'm also waiting for the first true Gut Check squash, where the poor sap doesn't even come back next week.
ReplyDeleteDude, Judge Dredd is basically Warhammer 40K the movie...
ReplyDeleteI'd do Jennifer Lawrence a lot of ways.
ReplyDeleteI dig these Gut Check videos. As a lifelong resident of Mass, I wish the guy the best of luck and judging by the clips in the video, he is already better in the ring than Kris Lewie.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. I think his team with Hernandez has potential though.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time watching Impact in several months.
ReplyDeleteI know it's been said before but this shows flows incredibly well. They go from a little bit of X division action to some heavyweights, follow that up with some storyline segments and then move to the women's division. The shit ain't perfect but at least it seems to have a rhythm to it unlike being bombarded with endless recap packages and the same dudes appearing three times a show.
Seeing Gail Kim in that Bound for Glory flashback makes me envious of her shorts.
ReplyDelete...in other words, she's a WOMAN, Tazz.
ReplyDeleteTess just doesn't do it for me. Not horrible or anything...just really bland.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of being envious of a pair of shorts, here's Tessmacher.
ReplyDeleteGood God, what an ass. Spec-tac-u-lar.
ReplyDeleteIts refreshing to see a company take pride in their titles.
ReplyDeleteHeel turn
ReplyDelete"What are we watchin', Oprah, here?"
ReplyDeleteNice line by Taz.
Gee, didn't see that coming. #sarcasm
ReplyDeleteGREAT camera angles.....
ReplyDelete"Presenting" any title belt should involve said belt upside the head of the champ.... but a normal beatdown is acceptable too. And applause to the Tara chant/cheering section.
ReplyDeleteSo Tess-Tara II at BfG?
I don't think he's bad, but his WWE run probably killed any credibility he would've had. I like him as a not heavily pushed midcarder and he's fine as a tag team wrestler, but aside from his name he's nothing terribly special, and they made him into quite the joke in his last couple of years in WWE.
ReplyDeleteTitle Presentations, cakes, and contract signings....
ReplyDeleteAce's inplies that they could be anyone, even TNA wrestlers Hogan bumps into every week in the hall, etc.
ReplyDeleteFaces are so oblivious of wrestling history. You'd think Hogan would have told Tess about his experiences with tag partners turning on him.
ReplyDeleteHe ran around with his brother, brother?
ReplyDeleteD-Lo Brown!
ReplyDeleteDamn, D-Lo certainly has packed on the pounds
ReplyDeleteI like how the higher brass is not nearly as cartoonish as they have been presented in the past and in wwe.
ReplyDelete... So the TNA "braintrust" have no clue how to deal with Aces and Eights. Hey Hulk, you joined something similar 16/17 years ago... any ideas?
ReplyDeleteYou know what I would like to see? Enough wrestlers get together against Impact, take over Xplosion and spin it off into its own show like they wee supposed to do with the nWo and Thunder or Smackdown and WCW
ReplyDeleteThings are fine right now. Let them build an audience before they start expanding or it will just become watered down and lose quality.
ReplyDeleteThe last time Hardy did something this stupid (in a wrestling kayfabe sense) was when he accepted a loser-leaves-WWE match against CM Punk.
ReplyDeleteI'd trace the videos. Figure out where they're coming from and how they know exactly when to play them.
ReplyDeleteWasn't one of D-Lo's JR Facts that he used to be super-fat?
ReplyDeleteI just think that they are wasting Xplosion and a LOT of wrestlers. Let them spin off and do something.
ReplyDeleteDAMMMIT! That's it, Hardy is blowing Dixie!!
ReplyDeleteThere's no need to trace the vids. You could pick up a nWo/WCW vid at Walmart for like $5.00.
ReplyDelete...oh, you meant the video feed.
He moves merch.
ReplyDeleteGood decision putting over Hardy.
ReplyDelete1.
Hardy.
Decent enough show, but it felt like they were spinning their wheels.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so our early BfG cards looks like:
ReplyDeleteTNA Title: Hardy vs Aries
Tag Team Titles: TWTTCotW vs Styles/Angle vs Chavo/Hernandez
X-Div Title: Ion vs ?????
KO Title: Tess vs Tara
Grudge match: Storm vs RoodeSomething with Aces
Not bad compared to WWEs (half (or more of) the card scheduled the night of the show)
I'm guessing were going to get a mini heel turn from Aries.
ReplyDeleteI liked the last match a lot. Plus, it makes the number on contender look really strong going into the title match at BFG.
ReplyDeleteShocking huh? The #1 contender doesn't job.
ReplyDeleteAlso, notice how Aries rarely wrestles on Impact as did Roode before him.
ReplyDeleteI did like how they actually had Tara put the title around her waist, played her music, Tara left the ring and Tess celebrated. It seemed like an obvious set up but went on long enough you thought it was legit - until it happened.
ReplyDeleteThey should just lock him up somewhere until the main event at BFG. It's the only way to keep him out of trouble.
ReplyDeleteThis x 1000. It should be special when your World Champion wrestles on free TV He can do interviews, but no wrestling, You have the X Division and TV belt going to waste..defend those titles.
ReplyDeleteIt's not really a remake to me, as they're both adaptations of the comic.
ReplyDeleteI'm watching the Ken Patera Story. I had no idea this existed. It's awesome for all the wrong reasons.
ReplyDeleteIn the grand scheme of things it wasn't anything we didn't already know...but tonight seemed to point the direction in it being people within TNA being involved, rather than some outsider rebel group. I mean, wrestling 101 says someone from TNA was going to be involved, but this is the first time Ace's clearly said so...
ReplyDeleteNo one mentioned that BULLY HIT THE FUCKING SPLASH, I couldn't believe my eyes!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThey should have Hardy come out next week and make fun of Aries for being proud of his championship title.
ReplyDeleteOK,I'm no mark.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, how the hell do they fake Sonjay Dutt's moonsault double foot stomp. That's the first time I ever saw that move, and it blew me away.
ummm...why? That really doesn't make sense.
ReplyDeleteHey, Eli, you should be embarrassed for winning a ring...yeah...
See how silly that sounds?
They should make Sarita and Rosita come back and be all, "Hey, you're not Anarchia.."
ReplyDeleteBut what do you do with him after that? He didn't really stand out to me.
ReplyDeleteYou mean being Tom Brady doesn't trump winning the championship? Eli might have won the championship but does any of that matter if Brady doesn't think Eli's better than him? Maybe this year the Patriots will be eliminated early and they can just play the Pro Bowl featuring Brady in the Superbowl's time slot.
ReplyDeleteBecause he should be fighting over more important things like shampoo commercials or his dog dying.
ReplyDeleteI think that's one where the guy taking it just has to suck it up, he's going to feel it. But if I had to guess, I'd say that they have strong abs and flex prior to contact, while his momentum takes him back away from his opponent rather than straight down...although I'm pretty sure I've seen him come straight down. It might just be one of those "this ain't ballet" moves.
ReplyDeletelol yep
ReplyDeleteJR "He used to be 400lbs!!!"
when they see him they should say "OOOOOOOOOO CHAVO"
ReplyDeleteThat's why he worked so hard to help Mark Henry lose the weight, because he knew from personal experience how hard it was.
ReplyDeleteJoe Park > David Otunga
ReplyDeleteThe phallic belt and stripper dance ruled it. It's almost like this guy is an INDIVIDUAL or something!
ReplyDeleteYou're just not used to seeing him against someone not named Hornswoggle.
ReplyDeleteRay's had such a good run, I'm guessing we get a 3-way.
ReplyDeleteThis is already a better buildup than what they did for No Surrender.
ReplyDeleteAlex Shelley (damn I miss him) did a double stomp a lot and it looked like he just bent his knees on contact and rolled off.
ReplyDelete
