1. What exactly is a Nature Boy?
2. What is the deal with all this blu-ray/dvd/digital combo pack bullshit? I just want the fucking blu-ray.
3. Why doesn't a heel champion enter himself in the Royal Rumble? If he won, he wouldn't have to defend the title at Wrestlemania. CM Punk, I'm looking at you.
1. Well, someone who loves nature, of course. There was a song by Nat King Cole in the 40s where I would assume that Buddy Rogers took the nickname from, although Rogers and Flair might have also been referencing the Bugs Bunny cartoon with the wrestler that Bugs refers to as Nature Boy as well. I don't know if it has any specific connotations dealing with the blond muscle-man image that they're trying to portray.
2. Hey, some of us have young kids who will sit quietly in the car if Cinderella is playing in the DVD player, but also would like to watch movies on Blu Ray at home.
3. I don't think the champion is allowed to do that.
"What exactly is a Nature Boy? Do you like Nature? Do you like Boys? No, wait, don't answer that!"
ReplyDeleteBut the WWECW champion could do it, as Chavo did some years back, showing just how "prestigious" that title was.
ReplyDelete...though it would be a neat idea for either the World champ or the WWE champ to enter himself into the Rumble with the express purpose of challenging for the other title.
Of course, this brings up all kinds of unification crap...
1997: Terry Funk enters Royal Rumble wielding a chainsaw.
ReplyDelete2008: Finlay is disqualified from the Royal Rumble for using glorified club.
I think the rules to the Royal Rumble are somewhat malleable to the circumstances.
People are complaining about the double pack? You get two for basically for the price of one. It's a good way to move Blu Ray units, since most people just want the DVD, but if they ever upgrade, they have the blu ray already, and most places have standalone discs in both formats in any case.
ReplyDeleteAnd it works out for people that have blu ray in the living room, but regular dvd players in bedrooms or playrooms or whatever.
ReplyDeleteWhy the double-pack? So when your shitty ps3 dies on you for the third goddamn time, you're not entirely screwed for media.
ReplyDeleteGoddamn it.
1. A nudist.
ReplyDelete2. I have a Blu Ray player, but have friends/relatives who don't so it's nice if I want to watch it at their place or let them borrow it. I also travel a fair amount, so I like being able to put Digital Copies on my phone.
3. Since it's not even wrestling anymore, anyone can do anything. The WWE Champion could win the Royal Rumble and challenge for the World Title (or vice-versa) to finally unify the titles, if they ever wanted to do that.
I have no idea what a "Nature Boy" is, but if it comes with a free robe... I'm in.
ReplyDelete2. Guessing cost of media < than cost of producing separate packages of solo blus, dvds
ReplyDeleteDidn't Macho man eliminate himself in 92 just for everyone to pretend it didn't count
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think Gorilla said something like somebody else has to throw him out for it to be considered an elimination. It was obviously a screw up by Savage.
ReplyDeleteOr friends or family that aren't technophiles. If I go to my Mom's I can't watch a movie unless it is a double pack.
ReplyDeleteThey change elimination rules to suit the story. There have been several years where an eliminated opponent pulls someone out and it counts (Bad News to Piper is one), but then other years it doesn't (Shawn getting thrown out by Vader).
ReplyDeleteI think it is lazy writing and they should have some consistency but whatever.
How exactly did it go down where Flair got the Nature Boy moniker from Rogers?
ReplyDeleteOutsiders eliminating "Rumble"-competitors is a big pet-peeve of mine - if the guy isn't in the match, he shouldn't be able to eliminate someone. That'd be like a third person scoring the win in a one-on-one match.
ReplyDeleteBingo.
ReplyDeleteFlair: "Hey Champ, is it OK, if I use your Nature Boy moniker?"
ReplyDeleteRogers: "No problem. It's only fair to Flair."
Flair: "Thanks, Buddy."
Rogers: "I'm not your buddy, friend."
Flair: "Don't call me friend, guy."
Rogers: "I'm not your guy, Buddy."
Flair: "I'm not your friend, guy."
Rogers: "Stop, Ric."
Flair: "I'm not your Ri...oh. WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
1. What exactly is a Nature Boy?
ReplyDeleteSort of surprised no one jumped on this as the answer:

youve had 2 ps3's die on you??!
ReplyDeleteHoly fuckballs!
I still have my original one 80GB/BC/4usb
I went through 4 PS2s (and 2 PS1s) before I finally just gave up. I will never buy any Sony product again, and have never even played a PS3 outside of the store demo systems. Fuck Sony.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Chavo had the belt shows how prestigious it was.
ReplyDeletegeez....im sorry...
ReplyDeleteI just wish they would farm out the actual manufacturing to some other company. Because they have great ideas and designs for their products, but then build them like GM builds cars. They should let Toshiba handle the manufacturing arm of things, Toshiba shit is practically indestructible, I have a Toshiba TV/VCR combo that I bought in 2000 and that shit still runs like new.
ReplyDeleteLucky you. I love Sony systems (my ps2 thick is still running, 12 years strong)but these fucking ps3s will be the death of me. Mind you, i'm on 360 #3 as well.
ReplyDeleteI think when Flair got to the Carolinas, after his plane accident he dropped some muscle and looked a lot more like Buddy Rodgers. So the Crocket promoters said, hey, you look like Buddy Rodgers, he was called the Nature Boy. So it went from there.
ReplyDeleteThey did do a handful of matches in the late 70s to sort of legitimize Flair as the "Nature Boy," I believe.
My brother got me the Ted double-pack for Christmas so we could watch the DVD that day on my dad's shitty TV.
ReplyDeleteI actually think it should count--no matter the circumstances, if your feet hit the floor you lose.
ReplyDeleteThe year before, you had the Undertaker winning the Rumble and Bobby Lashley actually acting like he might get challenged for the ECW belt.
ReplyDeleteIn defense of Chavo in the Rumble, he had just beaten Punk for the belt a week prior. You'll notice Punk wasn't in the Rumble that year.
ReplyDeleteAlthough you have the oddball Disney thing where you get one version packaged in a BD case and one packaged in a DVD case, but both have the dual formats.
ReplyDeleteOr Flair losing the fall in a Hogan v. Vader match.
ReplyDeleteHe was. He was even eliminated by Chavo. I'm not proud of the fact that I remember that off the top of my head, but I do.
ReplyDeleteMy PS3 died last sunday, 2 days into my 12 day holiday from work...in the middle of Far Cry 3! I've cried less at funerals.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid they don't WANT their stuff to be indestructible.
ReplyDeleteit's also the very same movie! and let's face it: if people had to decided many of them would choose the cheaper dvd because a lot more people own a dvd player than a bluray player.
ReplyDeleteunfortunately, as Scott pointed out, that has happened more than once.
ReplyDeleteOddly enough, Farcry 2 will play in my near-dead ps3 slim. Everything else locks up after 20 minutes.
ReplyDeleteHaha... True.
ReplyDeleteSonovabitch, you're right.
ReplyDeleteMy PS3 is working fine one year after I bought it, but the R1 shoulder button decided to stop working a few weeks ago. I still need to go replace it, but holy hell, why do the controllers cost as much as the damn games?
ReplyDeleteBecause Disney cares about people who want to have matching packaging for their collections...?
ReplyDeleteHaving sold the damn stuff for a few years, the answer is simple: They hate us.
ReplyDeleteFox did the same thing with the double-sided disc set of Louie season 1.
ReplyDeleteTommy Dreamer came in with a trash can full of plunder in 2003.
