> Hi Scott - long time, first time, yada, yada, yada. If my count is correct, Ryback has now been the loser in 8 straight PPV matches (including 4 title shots). Is that a record?
Wins and losses don't matter, they're telling stories. Let it play out and see where it goes.
I feel like Chris Jericho had a pretty extensive PPV losing streak, and I remember Batista constantly blowing it when going for the World Title in his later days as a face.ReplyDelete
Well ryback got over by doing tons of jobs so this seems fine to meReplyDelete
Extreme Rule was a draw. So he lost six straight, drew, and then lost again.ReplyDelete
Rey Mysterio lost his first seven PPV matches.ReplyDelete
Punk during his heel run with SES and New Nexus didn't win any feuds with anyone. I don't know how to look this up but I'm pretty sure he went more than a year between winning PPV bouts and he was on almost every card.ReplyDelete
CM Punk lost 15 of 16 PPV matches before his match at MITB versus Cena, stretching from Hell in a Cell 2009 to Over the Limit.ReplyDelete
He lost 10 straight on PPV.
It's early in his career, so he's not a lost cause.ReplyDelete
What I had a bigger problem with was Cena completely no selling the Ryback match and doing his usual "shit eating grin" promo. That kind of stuff drives me insane and why so many guys don't end up getting over when they feud with Cena. This is 100% on him and not "creative".
Edge also lost 10 straight PPVs, going from Rock Bottom 1998 to No Way Out 2001 without getting a win.ReplyDelete
That guy never recovered!ReplyDelete
Surprised he didn't go to TNA since the WWE was treating him so badly, arghghhgh!ReplyDelete
Agreed. He could've formed a faction that tried to take over TNA.ReplyDelete
Tito Santana had a long one.It was 12 from Wrestlemania 2 to to Survivor Series 90. He only won at Survivor Series 90 and 91, Still pretty untouchable, but it could have been close to 20.ReplyDelete
From Unforgiven 1999 until his current retirement, on WWE PPVs, Foley has gone 3-15.ReplyDelete
Jericho lost six in a row when he came back, from Royal Rumble to MITB.ReplyDelete
Tito Santana has to have the record. He lost 12 strait from Wreslemania 2 to Survivor Series 90. He only won at Survivor Series 90 and 91. It would have been close to 20.ReplyDelete
His team won at Survivor Series 87ReplyDelete
But he was eliminated. Same with 89ReplyDelete
Don't see Wade Barrett mentioned here, but he should certainly be on the list. FWIW, here's my source for that:ReplyDelete
Sorry for linking 411...I know some of you think that's grounds for insta-banhammer in these parts.
But his team still won. I call that a victory.ReplyDelete
BEWARE THE BURNING BANHAMMER!ReplyDelete
But did he go to the pay winda, noReplyDelete
He was layin on his back doin the J-O-B Daddy
The whole team doesn't get a bonus for winning? That's messed up. I say if your team wins, you get credit for the W but others may interpret it differently, which is fine.ReplyDelete
Did the Orient Express EVER win a match on a PPV?ReplyDelete
you mean as a singles guy, right?ReplyDelete
Singles and tagReplyDelete
that can't be right, then. He won at wrestlemania 2000, Backlash 2000, KOTR 2000 in tag matches.ReplyDelete
If only Lex Luger worked now...ReplyDelete
I meant No Way Out 2000. My bad. I'll edit it.ReplyDelete
He, uh, also Won at Rock Bottom 98,ReplyDelete
Yea, so Rock Bottom he won. He doesn't win again until No Way Out 2000.ReplyDelete
Sucks for Edge.
Didn't he win the feud with Jeff Hardy?ReplyDelete
He won the feud with Hardy. The feud with Taker was when the losing streak startedReplyDelete
I'm surprised they haven't tried that yet.ReplyDelete
One that's not been mentioned yet, The Big Show, he won the Hardcore Title at No Way out 2001 and then lost every PPV match right up to the point he won the WWE title at Survivor Series 2002. which gives us 11 straight losses over 20 months.ReplyDelete
(His team won Survivor series 2001, but he was eliminated)
Undertaker once had a stretch going 1-8. Unforgiven 2000 (lost in a 4-way) to Invasion. (lost the 10-man)ReplyDelete
Kurt Angle lost 7 straight PPV matches.ReplyDelete
He beat Eddie Guerrero Summerslam 2004.
He lost to Big Show No Mercy 2004.
Lost an elimination tag at Survivor Series 2004
Lost to Big Show Armageddon 2004
Lost a 3-way match and the Rumble match 2005
Lost to Cena No Way Out 2005.
He then beat HBK at Mania.
Dammit, beaten to it.ReplyDelete
They never kayfabe-clarified what the rewards were for winning at Survivor Series. Maybe Gorilla made some bs up during an old house show elimination tag match or something....ReplyDelete
Um... isn't that five straight?ReplyDelete
I count the Rumble as a loss.ReplyDelete
Punk lost 10 straight within 12 monthsReplyDelete
Over the Limit 2010 vs Rey
Fatal 4 Way 2010
Summerslam 2010 vs Big Show
Night of Champions 2010 vs Big SHow
Bragging Rights 2010's tag match
The 2011 Royal Rumble
Elimination Chamber 2011
Wrestlemania 27 vs Randy Orton
Extreme Rules 2011 vs Randy Orton
Over the Limit 2011 vs Kane and Big Show
Not a single person has ever been banned for linking to 411.ReplyDelete
That said, I hate giving that maleaware cess-pool hits.
Well, he did already leave TNA once because they didn't like how they were using him.ReplyDelete
Yeah like wnyxmcneal said, he won the feud with Hardy and then moved on to the Undertaker and the losing began. The SES only formed after the Hardy feud, a few months after in fact.ReplyDelete
Interestingly enough if Hardy hadn't been leaving WWE Punk probably would have lost that feud too. He really only won it by default because he was the guy sticking around. They really stuck it to Punk in those years thinking he could "get his heat back" by talking.
They're telling a story where there's a character called Ryback who happens to be a gigantic loser.ReplyDelete
"At least he's got PPV matches", says Zakk Ryder, as he holds the razor blade close to his veiny wrist.ReplyDelete
There's a knock at the door - it's Kane! Zakk quickly conceals the razor. "Hey, you seen Daniel Bryan?". "No" says Ryder, suppressing his sobs. Kane grunts and leaves the room, closing the door behind him.
Alone once more, Zakk is now sobbing uncontrollably, and lifts the razor to his wrist for a second try. Suddenly, there's a knock at the door - it's Arn Anderson! Zakk hides the razor in his headband. "Hey Jack", says Arn, concerned "are you crying?". "It's Zakk", says Ryder, "and no, I'm not crying. I just have a bug in my eye".
Suddenly, blood begins to trickle down Ryder's forehead. The concealed razor appears to have cut into his skin! Arn takes off his glasses and gives Zakk a knowing smile. Zakk breaks down in tears and Arn takes him in his arms. He gives him a really good pep talk about how jobbing isn't the end of the world, and he's lucky he's a WWE jobber, and not a TNA one, or worse, an ROH one. Zakk is grateful for the words and in a symbolic act, swallows the razor in one gulp!
"NOOOOO!" shouts Arn, but it's too late, Zakk Ryder is a dumbass, and he dies from internal bleeding
Pretty sure that's not right, since he defeated Triple H at Wrestlemania X-7.ReplyDelete
Sometimes he ties.ReplyDelete
Come on, I'm sure creative tells him to not sell. They don't want him to look weak if he show ANY vulnerability! [/cena is not the problem apologist]ReplyDelete
Yea, that was the one he won.ReplyDelete
Unforgiven- lost the 4-way
Survivor Series- lost to Angle
Armageddon- lost the HIAC
Royal Rumble- eliminated by Rikishi
No Way Out- lost to the Dudleyz
X-7- beat HHH
Backlash- lost to Austin/HHH
Judgment Day- lost to Austin
Invasion- lost the 10-man
Following that, he reeled off five straight wins before being eliminated by Maven in the Rumble.
Yes, I'd imagine he claimed that each survivor got a bonus part of the winner's purse, and if the losers ran away their share for the match would be given back to Jack Tunney. Also, the WWF Championship Committee would be watching the match!ReplyDelete
Of all the losses on Michaels' surprisingly crappy Wrestlemania record, that one against the Orient Express really stands out as funny.ReplyDelete
Ah, okay, didn't notice the 1-8. I just got caught up in the whole "losing streak" bit, so I assumed every list was gonna be the 0-X factor.ReplyDelete
