Thanks to everyone who's been sending questions in. Today we're gonna rock two questions, simply because I'm drunk with power. First one up is from a Mr. KSZero, offering up a simple question:
"Black Cat, or Black Widow?"
Well, I can't imagine Black Widow not as Scarlett, which gives her an edge. So, unless Phoenix Marie plays Black Cat at some point, I'm gonna go with Widow.
Next up, a question from Officer Farva:
"What is the best, or your favorite, single episodic (trademark WWE) television episode? I'd choose either the season 1 episode of Homeland where ___ _____ is introduced as being alive, the season 1 finale of OZ, or the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode where Larry misspells "Aunt" as "Cunt" in an obituary (think season 2). 3 of my favorite series of all time."
I edited said question as to avoid spoilers right here on the main page. In the comments, go nuts. Great question. I have quite a few options, such as the episode of Married With Children where Al sells his soul, the ep of Seinfeld where Kramer finds the Merv Griffin set, or the pilot of Breaking Bad. Seriously, if that had been made into a movie, it'd be talked about amongst the greatest films of the last 20 years. It's fantastic.
How say you?

I don't get the first reference so I will skip to the second.
ReplyDeleteI am going with two because they are both so damm good that they deserve a mention.
1. Party of Five-The Intervention Episode
2. Friday night lights-The episode of Matt's fathers funeral.
The Intervention episode is slightly the better one of the two, but I watched the FNL episode while I was drunk so when it was over I thought it was the best thing I had ever seen on TV.
Honorable Mention. The Boys Meets World episode where Topenga runs away from home, (her family had moved the previous episode) to the Matthew's house to be with Cory.
Oh yeah, I remember that BMW episode, it was pretty good. I'm interested in seeing Girl Meets World, and I'm shocked at how hot Topenga still is.
ReplyDeleteSix Feet Under Series Finale
ReplyDeleteThe Wire - Season 4 Season Finale
Breaking Bad - One Minute (I think thats the name, the one where Hank gets into the shoot-out with the twins)
Walking Dead Pilot
Mad Men - Signal 30 (Lane vs Pete)
Doesn't that pretty much boil down to whether I prefer blondes or redheads? Aren't they pretty similar characters?
ReplyDeleteblack cat always showed inner side boob.
ReplyDeletenext to feathery material.
shwing!
the episode of sesame street where mr looper... er, hooper's (thanks big bird) death is discussed is must-see tv
ReplyDeleteBlack Cat always had an unhealthy and borderline dangerous obsession with Spiderman.
ReplyDeleteI dig crazy chicks.
Spider vs cat? I don't get it.
ReplyDeleteI would say the Larry Sanders episode where hank thinks oj is innocent and Phil eggs his Bentley. I've been trying to think of my favorite episode of the wire (since its my favorite show) but I love every episode. Maybe the one where stringer first sets up the board of directors and picks up the whole "change the name" idea from business school, and drops the classic "nigga is you taking notes on a criminal fucking conspiracy?" on sham who was just trying to be the secretary
I also love the last episode of john from Cincinnati. Its a crime that show didn't get another season.
ReplyDeleteDepends on the writer but I generally was more into Black Cat. Hotter, crazier and with occasionally she had actual powers.
ReplyDeleteGreat episode. Have you ever read Street Gang: The Unauthorized History of Sesame Street? Excellent read.
ReplyDeleteShawn will soon be gone
ReplyDeleteIt's a crime that the cast was saddled with that kid/central character who couldn't act his way out of a paper bag and ruined the whole show for everyone.
ReplyDeleteX Files S01E17 - E.B.E
ReplyDelete--The season 3 finale of Sons of Anarchy. Literally the only non-sports thing I've ever stood up in front of my tv and cheered for.
ReplyDelete--"I Married Marge", Simpsons. People always pay attention to "The Way We Was" for flashback episodes but this was my absolute favorite, and one that hit really close to home. Plus Homer's rant to Burns at the end is classic "AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, I CAN CHANGE!"
--The E.R. episode where they show Mark Greene's final days in Hawaii.
Oh man, was that fucking sweet or what? They really had me hook line & sinker that Stahl had fucked over Jax. Then BAM, it's all a ruse, and Opie gets to smite that bitch. That was some fantastic writing.
ReplyDelete- just thought of another great one, a 2-parter: a, 'my name is alex'... family ties, where alex's friend dies and alex goes to talk to someone about it
ReplyDelete- someone mentioned er, how 'bout the ep where lucy dies and they try to save carter
- 'goodbye farewell and amen,' duh (look it up if you dont know), or 'abyssinia henry'
- ep where theo gets treated like an adult from the cosby show, where he's paying rent, all the family plays different characters in the real world, so forth
- 'way down mexico' way from beavis and butthead was so awesome it got banned
- that ep of the fresh prince where will and carlton got pulled over in the boonies for 'driving too slow'
yeah that ep of er was good.
ReplyDeletethey set it up with a nice twist. we knew mark was dyin', and the previews were like, 'in 2 weeks see mark greene's final ep. and next week, you cant miss the 1st 5 minutes'
and then the next week, in the 1st 5 min... boom, the er gets the news that mark died, and the week after was actually a flashback ep
- The Wizard of Oz episode of Scrubs
ReplyDelete- Simpsons: The Springfield Connection
ReplyDelete- Married With Children: Al loses his car at a car wash and freaks out because he has something of deep meaning in the trunk. The reveal was surprisingly heartfelt.
- Cosby show: The one where they're all storybook characters and Rudy reveals her method for world peace. Sappy but fun.
- Futurama: Jurassic Bark. If you don't cry you have no soul.
In honor of James Gandolfini, either "Long Term Parking" or "Pinebarrens" from the Sopranos. Also, the 24 Episode where Nina Myers finally gets hers.
ReplyDeleteSimpsons - the Poochie episode
ReplyDeleteSouth Park - make love not warcraft or Margaritaville
Seinfeld - the contest
that facebook ep of south park was brilliant, too
ReplyDeleteFor the Sopranos, the episode "College" from the first season is damn near perfect
ReplyDeleteMake Love Not Warcraft is my favorite of the entire series. Although Fishsticks is a close second. But MLNW was such a perfect representation of most nerds on the internet, especially the "bad ass". Made me think of people like Dougie.
ReplyDeletePinebarrens is hilarious and insanely entertaining. Then they never addressed the missing Russian & the car he stole.
ReplyDeleteThat was great. With Steve showing up, and Bud's real life brother as the manager of the car wash.
ReplyDeleteI know I would have pulled me over. Wouldn't you? I would have. *as the episode closes out and leaves us thinking about the ills of society*
ReplyDeleteI know it's cliche, but probably Marge vs. The Monorail.
ReplyDeleteI've got someone here who can help!
ReplyDeleteBatman?!
No, a scientist!
Batman's a scientist.
Surprised there's not more Sourh Park episodes listed. There's so many good ones but the Scientology episode is so clever and well done...my favorite is the one where Cartman pretends to have torrettes. "Titty sprinkles. Donkey Boner!"
ReplyDeleteIf we are talking South Park, "Scott Tenorman must die" is still the best ep of that series I've seen. How the hell they got me rooting for fucking CARTMAN is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteTheres just too many awesome episodes for me to pick from. I probably have 50 favorite south park episodes
ReplyDeleteHe's an interior decorator!
ReplyDeleteMe and my cousin touched wei----weiiienn....weeiiners!
ReplyDeleteIt's outright shocking to me sometimes how sharp the writing is. Their criticism & parody of things are perhaps the smartest in the history of TV.
Agreed. I've probably forgotten more great ones that I can remember. Those 2 just stick out for some reason.
ReplyDeleteAnd the payoff was one of the greatest in any venue, be it books, TV, or movies.
ReplyDeleteReally? His apartment looked like shit.
ReplyDelete"The Constant" from Seaon 4 of Lost is the greateast hour of TV I, personally, have ever seen, and there isn't a close second. And this coming from a guy who's seen every ep of Oz, The Sopranos, Homeland, ER, West Wing, etc. If you are invested in the show, and don't shed a tear, get the fuck off the planet, cuz you aren't human.
ReplyDeleteYou have me intrigued. Never seen the episode, only got through a free season of Lost.
ReplyDeleteThe Constant is the only episode from a TV show that I can honestly say ever made me weep like a little girl. It is a fucking amazing hour of TV, but you have to invest 3+ seasons of Lost to really get the proper pay off in context.
ReplyDeleteThe last 2 episodes of The Shield.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if there are any Dr. Who fans on here, but there's an episode called "Blink" from the new incarnation of the series that is a brilliant piece of writing by Stephen Moffat (Sherlock).
The Sopranos' episode where they set up an intervention for Christopher.
ReplyDeleteSil: "I came into the Bada Bing. You were throwing up in the toilet. Your hair was in the toilet water. Disgusting."
Chris: "I had the flu!"
Sil: "I've said my piece, Chrissy!"
Tony: "Wait a minute. You killed her dog?"
Chris: "I fell asleep! She must've crawled underneath me. I guess I suffocated her."
Tony: "I OUGHTA SUFFOCATE YOU!!!"
Matter of fact, any episode where Ginny Sack was referenced was awesome.
"Dad, Tom Cruise won't come out of the closet"
ReplyDeleteSo many great South Park episodes. I'm a huge fan of MLNW, but my favorite ever may be "The Return of the Fellowship of the
ReplyDeleteRing to the Two Towers". Being a huge Tolkien fan (and a fan of the movies), I just love the way they weave the LOTR into a South Park romp.
I probably shouldn't have gotten that haircut.
ReplyDeleteWhile that's a great episode of SoA, I'm going to go with the 2nd-season episode where Clay and Jax mend fences after hearing what happened to Gemma. Katey Sagal, just, wow.
ReplyDeleteIT'S NOT BATMAN!
ReplyDeleteThe finale of Breaking Bad Season 4, when Walter Whites master plan comes off and he manages to kill Gus Fring in extraordinary style, one of the most satisfying deaths ever on screen. Not to mention the true evil nature of Walter starting to shine through as he manipulated the shit out of Jesse by toying with his emotions by being revealed (to the audience) as the one who poisoned the kid to gain his trust. Just an amazingly constructed piece of TV on every level.
ReplyDeleteYep that was the turning point for Cartman as a character and there was no going back. Just an epic epic episode.... don't fuck with Eric Cartman.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna' jack it where the sun always shines.
ReplyDelete(He's gonna jack it)
Been spreading the word and now I need to ease my mind
(jackin' it, oh)
Been planting apple seeds, and while the apples grow
I'm gonna go out jackin' it in San Diego.
Jackin' it, jackin' it, jackety-jack
Spankin' it, jackin' it, spankety-smack.
I don't need no shirt no, gonna' take them pants right off.
(he's about to jack it)
On such a bright day, who needs underwear or socks?
(jack it, jack it, ho!)
Been around god's country, and there's one thing I know,
There's no better place for jackin' it than San Diego!
I call the big one, Bitey.
ReplyDeleteThe Peep Show with the 'Bachelor Party' and the dog.
ReplyDeleteI identify better with dumb comedies that evolve into dark or tragic comedies. I still like some episode TV like The Shield, Battlestar Galactica, and The Walking Dead, but I think serious drama carries more weight when it first spins from comedy. Personal preference, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if anyone here has seen it but Moral Orel. Basically, from about the middle of Season 2 and all of Season 3. The show starts off as self-contained single episodes that end up with Orel misinterpreting a life lesson and making everyone suffer for it. Then, in Season 2, it takes a really hard detour into some seriously dark episodic comedy. It starts with Orel's dad getting drunk on a camping trip and accidentally shooting Orel. The rest of the series spirals downward from there until the unofficial last episode (show got cancelled) where we see how bitter and angry his father really is for various reasons, but we also see how he ends up becoming a genuinely good person in spite of all of that. Probably the closest any TV show has ever come to bringing me to tears, except for:
Futurama's Jurassic Bark episode. Holy shit, this. Futurama's is especially good at the tragi-comedy stuff but the first time I saw this episode it ruined my entire week. I'm an animal lover so that ending killed me because of how true it is if you've ever seen an animal lose it's owner. I still have to turn off Comedy Central when I see that episode is coming on because it's too depressing (worse knowing Seymour's fate in later episodes, which seemed unnecessarily cruel).
The anime episode, I forget it's name. But when Cartman thinks he's invisible and walks across the stage nude, I think that's the best gag the show ever pulled off.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Scott Tenorman Must Die. Anytime you can directly reference Titus Andronicus, I'm sold.
I would hope so given that they borrowed it from one of Shakespeare's best plays.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I can't watch Jurassic Bark to this day.
ReplyDeleteToo many great episodes to choose so I'm just going to pick favorite episodes for different shows.
ReplyDeleteFirefly -- "Out of Gas" -- the story of how everyone came to the crew was told brilliantly
Sopranos -- season 3 "Pine Barrens" -- duh
Fresh Prince -- season 4 "Papa's Got a Brand New Excuse" -- Will Smith proved he could act in this one
The Shield -- Season 5 finale "Postpartum" -- Forrest Whitaker was such a great addition
Friends -- season 4 "TOW the Embryos" -- the game show created by Ross, probably the most laughs in one episode the show ever had
24 -- season 1 finale -- it was a gamechanger and really made the show special
Sons of Anarchy -- season 2 "Balm" -- Katey Sagal's shining moment on a show full of them
Lost -- series finale "The End" -- loved seeing all those characters rediscover each other as well as the final battle for the island
Futurama -- season 3 "The Luck of the Fryrish" -- could've gone with several (Seymour, any Leela-Fry one) but this one of unknown brotherly love was just beautiful
Simpsons -- season 5 "Cape Feare" and season 6 "And Maggie Makes Three" -- Cape Feare for being a tremendous parody and LOL funny throughout, And Maggie Makes Three for how heartwarming it is (you could really pick any of the flashback episodes from the first 10 seasons)
I love the biker episode, especially when the kids start painting "Fags get out!" all over town and the mayor flips out about it. You know you fucked up when you end up bypassing the principal and get sent to the Goddamned mayor's office. Also:
ReplyDeleteBiker: I bet you won't call me a fag again.
Camerman: I already did it twice. Fag.
"Whale Whores" is hilarious too.
That's another good choice for Futurama. If I had to bring up one of the best Leela/Fry episodes, though, it's "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings".
ReplyDeleteA few lesser-known ones:
ReplyDeleteThe first Robot Chicken Star Wars episode. "What the hell is an aluminum falcon?"
Not really episodic TV, but The Top Gear episode where May drives to the top of a volcano, followed by Clarkson flipping over a Reliant Robin about 10 times. Look it up on YouTube, it's fucking hilarious. Also, any of the Top Gear specials where they go to foreign countries, especially the Iraq and Botswana ones.
"The Garden Party" episode of The Boondocks, which I believe was the series pilot. "In 30 years that boy will be President of the United States, and he'll be a fucking idiot!"
Any Tom & Jerry cartoon with Quacker.
Oh hey, also forgot M.A.S.H. No fucking joke. Look up the scene where Alan Alda talks about a woman killing her chicken on YouTube. It's still an insane scene even by today's standards. Also, the last episode.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYjy7uUn7fc&list=PLB5C53B3D75B9528E
ReplyDeleteThat's the scene.
I LOVE Moral Orel. The episode where Clay goes off on everyone in the bar is just fucking amazing television.
ReplyDeleteThe Top Gear episode where they resurface a road that has only been shown once is hilarious. As is the first USA special.
ReplyDeleteSouth Park: The Creme Fraiche/ Shake Weight Episode. Also Medicinal Fried Chicken.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to that Biker episode because I have relatives who are bikers and I cannot stand them. I asked them once during a family get together, "why do you have to make all that noise riding through a neighborhood especially at night?" Their response was "so people can hear us so we don't get into accidents." My response was "I understand the not getting into accidents part, but why do we have to hear you a half mile away. Couldn't you just lessen the noise by 90% so only people a couple hundred feet away could hear you and only make the noise on main streets not in a neighborhood?" Their response was "Fuck you; you just don't understand why we need to make all that noise"
ReplyDeleteThat was a great scene. I loved the part where Jax slams his fist on the table and you can tell he wants to immediately go murder someone but stops b/c he knows Gemma needs to get everything out and the open and needs them to listen. Great acting.
ReplyDeleteNot the greatest show ever or anything as the last few seasons got stupid and it hasn't aged well but the Prison Break episode, Tonight, was really good. I loved the ending montage where they show all of the characters preparing for the escape and Sarah contemplating leaving the door unlocked for Michael while Teardrop by Massive Attack plays.
ReplyDeletedo you like fishsticks?
ReplyDeletethe chicken scene is in the last ep
ReplyDeleteJimmy's delivery of "You shall not pass" leaves me in stitches every time.
ReplyDeleteEh, meant to phrase that as the rest of the last ep but speed typing means I miss shit.
ReplyDeletei liked that one ep of 24 where kim was all annoying and got into trouble and was really useless
ReplyDelete...
I forgot about the first USA special. (Clarkson on a Buick Century): "It was rubbish then, it was built by idiots, and it's rubbish now."
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQtDXxXyPYQ
ReplyDeleteI've gone over this before, but I despise bikers. "The only people that get dressed up and make all kinds of noise to get attention are you and 16 year old girls."
ReplyDeleteThere's been many times through Breaking Bad where I catch myself holding my breath... I think I held it through this whole episode. I maybe caught on half a second before, and screamed out... HOLY SHIT IT'S IN THE CHAIR.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading that the series creator, David Chase, was going to address that in some way, but people kept bugging him about it, asking what happened to the guy. So he essentially said "fuck it, now you'll never know!"
ReplyDeleteWhich is awesome.
Star Trek : The Next Generation - "The Best of Both Worlds, Part One".
ReplyDeleteNot Part Two, which was kind of a letdown.
I had that song stuck in my head for days. Then the next few days after that it was Make Bullying Kill Itself. Trey Parker is one of the greatest song writers of all time. He's written so many fantastic songs for South Park. Hell, the song Gay Fish he wrote as Kanye is better than anything Kanye has ever written.
ReplyDelete
