I promised myself I would hold off on using my posting privileges for anything other then ROH reviews for at least a couple months, but this seemed worth an exception.
We all know Vince craves mainstream attention, and The Daily Show is about as main stream as it gets in American TV. My jaw hit the floor as soon as I realized that the Zeb Coulter angle was about to be aired by the worlds leading fake news broadcast. The resulting bit was hilarious and probably made the angle seem a lot more sophisticated to the non-wrestling fan watching.
I think this is great press for the WWE to draw up some buzz, What say you?

Despite it's popularity amongst young people, Daily Show, I think, is seen by less people then Pro-Wrestling.
ReplyDeleteIt's not just the actual viewership Stewart brings in, The New York Times/Huffington Post/other big newspaper sites always link to his show on their sites. The Daily show is talked about inside the mainstream bubble. Your numbers check out, In fact wrestling does better ratings then MOST of what we call mainstream entertainment. I posted the questions about "good press" for the discussion. I honestly was just looking for an excuse to share the video, It's comedy gold
ReplyDeleteI saw that the other night. The Daily Show reaches a very broad spectrum of viewers, more so than wrestling methinks, so this was excellent cross promotion. But, as HHH would say, Foley is a Human Muppett. What can he draw? ;)
ReplyDeleteAs Mick himself says in his second book: Television is faker than wrestling.
ReplyDeleteFor that matter, so is about 90+% of life today.
I loved this segment when I saw it on Daily Show, especially John Oliver's reaction to the actual wrestling footage.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, WWE won't be like, "OMG! Someone else in entertainment acknowledged us!" like they usually do and make it woefully uncool.
"My jaw hit the floor as soon as I realized that the Zeb Coulter angle was about to be aired by the worlds leading fake news broadcast. "
ReplyDeleteThat's Fox & Friends.
"Pro wrestling is real, people are fake."--Mr. Anderson...Anderson.
ReplyDeleteThe best part of the Zeb Colter thing is listening to JBL getting legitimately upset because he's a Tea Party whackjob himself (and is Mantel as well?)
ReplyDeleteHow do they mention The American Dream and NOT make a Dusty Rhodes reference??
ReplyDeleteI hardly ever watch the Daily Show, but I see a ton of their bits because it ends up in my Facebook feed.
ReplyDeleteWhen they announce a rating for an episode of the show like the Daily Show, how does that work? The original show airs at 11pm, but it airs again at least three other times that I know (1am, 3pm, 7pm). How are all of those replays figured? Cause that has to help.
Ah, he'll never put butts in the Daily Show seats.
ReplyDeleteDidn't they have New Jack on a couple weeks ago?
ReplyDeleteTo my knowledge (okay I read somewhere) Dutch is a lifelong Democrat.
ReplyDeleteLegitimately upset? lol, did you just start watching wrestling? You're smarter than that.
ReplyDeleteUpset wasn't the right word. Let's just say JBL doesn't have to stretch too far to support Zeb's opinions.
ReplyDeleteWell, each group has its share of "whack job" opinions. Let's not pretend that Tea Party people are the only ones.
ReplyDeleteYeah, just because Dutch looks like an extra from Deliverance doesn't mean he's a racist nutjob.
