Change of Plans in TNA's "Bound for Glory" Series

Thursday night will feature the last matches in the series, with the top four contestants going on to the "No Surrender" show on 9/12. The decision was just made to end the series as they did not have enough time to complete the round robin tournament.

Matt Morgan Update

According to Mike Johnson, the WWE and Morgan have had some discussions but there has not been an offer made by the WWE at this point. It has also been reported that WWE has little to no interest in TNA performers, with the belief that they already have guys who can offer the same thing in their developmental system.

'WWE has little to no interest in TNA performers, with the belief that they already have guys who can offer the same thing in their developmental system where it can be brainwashed out in favor of the homogenized wwe style'

  2. I don't watch TNA, so they may have addressed this, but if you're in 5th place right now (Joe) and people get minus points for DQ, wouldn't you just attack the opponent of the guys in 3rd and 4th during their matches?

bobby roode did that at one point to cost magnus some points

  4. Maybe this has been answered already, but since TNA has money woes right now, why did they resign Taz? He's just a commentator and has no interests in things outside of being a commentator, despite the fact he's not very good and most importantly, I'm sure Taz didn't come cheap.

  5. My question: How much of the series was scrapped? One match each is one too many, but I'm curious how badly they really screwed up...

  6. I think each guy was about 4 or 5 matches short. There would be 11 matches a guy to complete the full round robin

  7. Bayless, dont know if Ive said this but I enjoy these updates. Quick and easy way to get westling news

  8. I'd like to see the developmental talent that are better than AJ or Joe.

WWE would be simply idiotic not to pick either of them up when their deals are done despite them being in their mid-30's.

  9. Actually, he probably did. Remember, he floated interest to the WWE and they showed none in return. He probably took a pay cut, but it's gotta be more than he'd make doing autographs at flea markets.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Unless it is food stamps, whatever they are paying him is too much.

    ReplyDelete
  11. That should have been easy enough to map out. 5 matches a week for 10 weeks should have covered it.

  13. The total would've been 66 matches to give a full round robin... plus the three 20-pt four ways and the battle royal makes 70.

  14. So I take it WWE forgot that they already had Morgan and trained him to work in their style once already? I think he'll end up going down as one of those "if only...." cases, because he has all the tools to be a success and has just gotten dirt roaded every time. Why the hell they saw thid giant guy, agile as all hell, halfway capable in the ring (and is better now), and good on the mic, and thought, "hey, Bubba Ray isn't using that stuttering gimmick anymore....".

    ReplyDelete
  15. Just because WWE says something doesn't mean they mean it. They were saying similar things in the Monday Night Wars, and they still snapped up the Big Show, Jericho, Taz, and the Dudleyz when they became available.

  16. Thanks, much appreciated

  17. I still believe Punk talks someone into taking a flyer on Joe, whenever the time comes.

    ReplyDelete
  18. El Generico and Pac for starters are much better better for the WWE than AJ.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I've liked Matt Morgan in the past but I just think he never showed enough improvement. He's loaded with potential but I think it will forever go unfulfilled. He's decent on the mic but not charismatic. He's agile but not really explosive. He's big but not scary like Mark Henry or Brock Lesnar. He's just adequate in many facets but not "great" in any and I think if he were to ever make that leap, he'd have done it by now.

  20. Hey, Samoa Joe?

You have an olive branch to WWE in CM Punk. Extend it before you're too old.

    Fucking Christ.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Colt Cabana has an olive branch in CM Punk too, I'd argue an even closer one in terms of friendship, but point is is that look at what Cabana got out of Punk's new found backstage power.....a tryout.

And I know Joe is a better wrestler than Cabana, but it wouldn't shock me in the slightest if WWE asked Joe to drop more weight or bulk up more and we know happened the last someone asked Joe to do that.....

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree, but it's worth a chance.

If you told me in 2003 that Punk would be the hottest star in wrestling by 2011... well, 8 years is a long time, but you get the picture.

  23. Guys start to really make strides in their 30s into 40s when they figure out how to WORK. The biggest names in WWE other than Ziggler have 10+ years in! Joe, Daniels, Kazarian, AJ, Roode, Storm, Park and Aries could all contribute.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Colt made it sound like he didn't want to abandon his podcast, $5 Wrestling, Creative Has Nothing For You, etc, and WWE didn't want him having outside projects. I think he could've got signed.

    ReplyDelete
  25. not just Punk, he & Cena are close going back to their California days. Joe could get in if he wants.

Joe would have been a GREAT addition to the Shield or as a Heyman guy. That being said maybe they are happy with what TNA gave them contract wise and don't want the WWE schedule. We may never know. But there are alternatives other than the WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Russo is probably still kept up at night by the fact that he never got to do that storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I've always wondered about Cena. One of the things I don't like about him is that he's in a pretty good position to encourage positive change by simply asking to work with certain guys already on the roster or giving a nudge for Vince/HHH to hire, but he doesn't really seem to do it.

Is it a cautionary thing from watching what happened with the Hogan and the NWO and having watched the Reign of Terror from outside it's direct sphere of influence?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well, Cena did just put Daniel Bryan over squeaky clean at Summerslam, and then 100% sold it and endorsed him the next night on Raw.

And he did a good job putting Punk over as a star in 2011.

Not saying Cena is flawless in that regard, as he's derailed various guys in promos and superman comebacks and such— but I think he's been more "selfless" in a lot of ways than Hogan was.
