Extreme Sausage Parties

I was watching some old ECW matches the other day and it dawned on me that I have never once seen a female in the audience at the ECW Arena. So I have two questions: 1) Has a girl EVER attended an ECW event? and 2) Is there any other gathering in human history that has a worse male-to-female ratio than ECW in the 90's?

1.  I don't have attendance records handy, but I'm gonna say no.

2.  This blog?

Watching some old ECW got me thinking about the mutants of the ECW Universe. These guys were hardcore wrestling nerds, which seems to be strictly a dude thing. Plus, most of the ECW roster were fugly, so there's nothing to draw the ladies in.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Yeah there was one. Everyone remember that weird psycho guy who was an early ECW super fan? He had some chick with him in the front row usually. That's literally the only one I've ever seen there. And they were gone after the early years.
For some reason pro wrestling isnt an art form appreciated by women. The wwes 36% female fan thing is complete bullshit but I take my cap off to them for getting as many female fans as they do.

I'd guess there aren't a lot of girls at heavy metal shows or in arcades. Obviously this blog is also 99.999% male but at least one of the writers is a female.

    ReplyDelete
  6. You won't find many if any smark girls but honestly you won't find many in depth female fans of anything. I don't any girls that are into say advanced sports stats or quoting classic film lines. Probably hard to invest much time into being a fan when you're so busy thinking the world revolves around you

    ReplyDelete
  7. 1. Plenty of women have attended ECW shows. It is very clear in every old ECW of female fans in attendance.
    2. Ring of Honor. 'Nuff said.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I was about to say; Serial Killer Guy( going by the naming tradition of ECW fans) is the only one I can remember seeing with a fucking special lady friend( tm The Dude) on a regular basis.

  9. Whoa whoa whoa whoa WHOA! I am the chief Misogynist around here... I got something like 2 million down votes for it a couple of weeks ago.

Seriously though I agree with you, and would add that I honestly don't believe MOST of them have the mental capacity for anything that involved... I know we are supposed to pretend that everyone is equal... but they are what 52 - 53% of the world's population and still haven't even come close to being the decision makers? I don't know how else you explain it away...

    ReplyDelete
  10. I can't...off the top of my head, think of any girl in the world I've known who was a big fan of anything. I work with a girl from NY who acts like a big Yankee fan and after you get past the headline she runs out of steam quick for talking sports. My gf claims to be a big football fan and goes to the chargers games and she literally only knows the quarterbacks name. I don't know that I've ever seen a girl get a movie quote reference. Even with music or a movie they saw that convo isn't going very deep. Yeah my opinion on those is that its some combination of self absorbtion and stupidity. Hey ladies Theres room in your brain for more than just dick.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Are there girls at roh or any Indy shows. Tna always seems to have hot chicks in packs in their audiences (at least at the impact zone) but I was told they are actresses.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Honestly Mrs. Parallax1978 is way into sports, and wrestling, and movies/music... which I guess is how she landed me (that and the BEWBS) sadly it also comes with a good amount of crazy attached... and as I have stated she likes wrestling to the point of even burning me out on it at times (I mean she watches every show WWE puts on even shit like Afterburn or whatever it is called) but I guess there are worse problems you could have.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Bubba Ray Dudley made special mention of some female fans in attendance in ECW once.

    ReplyDelete
  14. That's a rare find. My gf is into clothes and gossip. She claims to like romantic comedies for example(yikes) but she, and her friends had never even heard of woody Allen, much less seen one of his movies.

    ReplyDelete
  15. She's not my special lady, she's my fucking lady friend. I'm just helping her conceive, man.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ahhh the old "her mom taught her to suck cock promo" boy those Dudley's were good at getting cheap heat pre match

    ReplyDelete
  17. There were women in attendance. I think one of the famous regulars was the women who became the ring of honors photographer. She was with ROH until 2008 I believe. She was at most arena shows, she was near the entrance at one of the poles. You can see her most of the time when wrestlers enter and stop before getting in the ring.

  31. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryAugust 26, 2013 at 1:02 PM

I went to N2R 99, and I swear there were all of 2 women in the entire crowd. No kids either, which was kind of weird, though probably for the best considering the majority of the crowd was hammered (myself included) and quite a few people were openly smoking weed right at their seats (again, myself included).

This blog is the right answer for question #2. We have one chick, and she's fucking married.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryAugust 26, 2013 at 1:04 PM

There's plenty of women at ROH shows, though most of them look underage.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sure. Lets go with that.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It can't be stupid if its factually correct. I don't know very many girls who are hardcore fans of anything. I'm not saying it bad I'm just saying its a fact.

    ReplyDelete

  36. Sounds like you don't know many girls, period....

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well, it's easier to get women into your crowd when you give away free tickets to people who visit the amusement park...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Why not more females? I'm a little surprised there are not more female fans here. I've long considered this blog to include thoughtful, insightful, and well-educated opinions... wait, I think I just answered my own question.

    oooh...Miz-like burn.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Also its a blog about wrestling

    ReplyDelete
  40. I went a few times and there was a girl in our group, so yeah, it happens. Was probably a 500-1 ratio, though. Anyways, Bob Ryder was always there before he went to work for WCW, so obviously the sausage ratio was high enough to bring someone in from halfway across the country.

    ReplyDelete
  41. There are plenty of female fans. I've been teaching Grades 8-10 for about five years now, and you'd be surprised how many of the students who want to talk about wrestling in class are female (it's about a 50/50 split between boys and girls).

And the ex Mrs and the future Mrs both put up with my wrestling habit and eventually became big fans. And, yes, they read the blog once in a while.

Don't be fooled by my bad joke, it was more of a cut on Miz.

  42. A few things come to mind after reading your posts here: 1) TPrincess seems down
to earth and very cool -- I don't know if she's the only female fan on
the BOD but she brings a hell of a lot more to the table than any number of us manly men 2) You're not stating a fact; you are stating what you believe to be a truth (truths and facts are two different things) 3) I'm guessing some shit went way wrong with you and member or members the opposite sex in the recent past (either that or you're in my boat and you have a teenage daughter -- The world DOES revolve around her and I'm pretty much a necessary evil)...

    ReplyDelete
  43. I rarely bring anything to the table so I agree with #1, I feel safe in saying the smark world is women free so I'll disagree with #2.
As far as #3 I'm just going off my gf, my sister and any number of my friends gfs or wives or even some female colleagues. If its not in their universe they don't care.

  46. Sounds like you don't care much about the things she is into, like clothes and gossip -- I know I could give a shit less about some of the things my wife is into -- But that's the beauty of it -- You really want your significant other into all of the shit that you're into? I sure as hell don't -- That's what I have my friends, fellow coaches, colleagues at work, etc. -- I got lucky in finding someone who isn't just like me; if she were we wouldn't have made it past a few conversations -- I love her but will never golf with her or be in a fantasy football league with her -- And she definitely has no interest in having me join her for a good portion of her various activities...

  49. Woody Allen movies are for fans of Woody Allen -- They are not popcorn flicks that our better halves generally tend to flock to -- It's contingent upon you to school her up; I'm guessing she'd enjoy some of his work -- Hell, my wife had never seen the original Star Wars trilogy before we got together -- We burned through them in one sitting; same with all of Christopher Guest's movies -- Sometimes the universes should collide -- She got me into Weeds and Lost...

  50. When I was in school the few girls that liked wrestling were weird Marilyn Manson chicks. Nowadays I have trouble meeting anyone that admits to liking wrestling.

  51. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryAugust 26, 2013 at 3:31 PM

In my 15 years or so of reading about wrestling on the internet I think I've come across a total of 3 women in the message boards and comment sections. I've found that most women that know anything about wrestling either A: Aren't really fans at all, they might watch it with their husband/BF/kids, but no way are they going out of their way to see it. Or B: They watch because they think one or more of the wrestlers are hot. There are some exceptions (like Princess), but it's a damn tiny minority. And that's not surprising, I mean, we're not talking about football or hockey (the amount and quality of the tail at Sabres games is just staggering. Good thing too, you need a distraction from the horseshit they put on the ice), we're talking about something that is pretty much exclusively marketed towards males, and often towards young males.

    ReplyDelete
  52. A good friend gave me some advice when I got together with a pretty awesome girl that I'm going to pass on to you (unsolicited as it is): This girl seems special, try not to fuck it up -- Of course, she was, and I did -- But you get the point...

  53. Hey Scott, whatever happened to Miss Galatea (sp?)

I don't know a single person IRL that likes wrestling. Not one. There's many that were into it during the Attitude Era and such, but once UFC came along, forget it. Either that or they just grew out of it, anytime someone learns I'm a fan their usual reaction is "And you're how old?"

Thing is though, they seem to grow out of it pretty soon after that. Most of the indy shows I go to have lots of girls in the crowd, almost a 50/50 split. Girls though, not women, because none of them will be over 18, and most will be in the 11-14 range. Anyone my age at one of those those shows is there with her son, bored out of her mind and playing with her phone the whole time.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I live in the San Joaquin Valley and it sounds like you're in the San Diego area -- Can't really blame girls in 20's for not relating to (or even really being familiar with Woody Allen) -- I would refrain from mentioning that he married his wife's much younger adopted daughter; not really a selling point...

    ReplyDelete
  64. Where do you teach? If you don't mind me asking...

    ReplyDelete
  65. And she'll fall in love with you if half of hers is...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Why wouldn't women want to part of the intellectually robust and emotionally complex discussions being held here on the BoD?

    I'm perplexed!

    ReplyDelete
  67. And speaking of things most women aren't into -- Is anybody outside of Denver going to be worth a shit in the AFC West in your opinion? I have KC at 8-8 and the Chargers at 6-10 or maybe 7-9 with the Raidtards coming in at 4-12, if that...

    ReplyDelete
  68. With women around here, we won't be able to pee in the drinking fountains ... if we wanted to.

  69. My buddy unforgivably brought his girlfriend over to our friend's house for Summerslam, and snobbily asked "How can one wrestler actually be 'better' than another if it's all scripted?" My word-for-word response: "I don't know, if that's the case why hasn't Ashton Kutcher won an Oscar? Now shut the fuck up and give me back that Sierra Nevada if you don't like it."
So...yeah. Even at the height of the Attitude Era, I didn't know many chick wrestling fans. My girlfriend is supportive of it- even bought me the "Respect the Beard" shirt as part of my birthday present a few weeks ago- but she doesn't even try, or pretend, to get it. She knows she's obviously welcome over on Monday nights like every other time (she stays at my place a majority of the week) but she also knows what'll be on TV on Monday, short of anything but an Illini basketball game, Bears MNF game, Bulls/Blackhawks playoff game or the fucking apocaplypse.

  71. It has me vexed -- I used to give my wife shit for being on Facebook too much and she replied that at least she interacts with people she knows and doesn't waste her time talking to strangers about a non-competitive sport that she doesn't even really watch anymore -- So I responded by shutting up...

    ReplyDelete
  72. Like, you don't have any friends who like it, or you never meet anyone who does? Because I rarely meet anyone who likes it, though I unapologetically wear my Punk and Bryan shirts in my T-shirt rotation and occasionally will get a "Best in the world!" or "YES!" from a stranger.
Still have a solid group of friends that watch it, but not nearly as many as used to. I have a bunch of friends who are lapsed fans who still like it but don't keep up these days and will talk to me about it when they see me.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryAugust 26, 2013 at 4:11 PM

Nope. I have plenty of friends that used to like it, but I don't know a single person IRL that watches wrestling today. Well, one, but he moved to South Carolina and I haven't seen him in a couple years, and even he quit watching long ago, only to get back into it because his son became a fan. Even my brother, who used to watch when we were kids, hates it now and thinks I'm an idiot for still watching.

    ReplyDelete
  74. If she does after subjecting her one of those three options you better wear a condom and make sure she doesn't know your real name or where you live -- Or marry her, either one...

    ReplyDelete
  76. Oooof who brings a girl to a ppv. Its one thing if its your place and she's your girl but to bring her over to a ppv at someone else's house...smh your buddy definitely fucked up

  77. Facts are provable. That was sexist nonsense. If you wanna be sexist, own it. I say all the time that one of my favorite things about working in the business I work in is having zero female superiors at all.
But if you list things that are mostly dude stuff- "quotable" movies and sports are mostly dude things- then yes, you're gonna come up short on chicks who are hardcore into them.
My girlfriend is every bit as into our TV shows as I am (not all the same ones, but the ones we both watch: Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Office, Parks and Rec, etc.) and just as into most of her other interests as I am. I don't think she's an outlier in that regard, either.

In other football related news, the Bills will be (at least as of now) starting an undrafted FA rookie at QB for game 1. Know when the last time that happened? Never, at least not in the modern draft era. And you know who they signed as the back-up (EJ Manuel just had knee surgery, and Kevin Klob got what may be a career ending concussion on the most benign play I've ever seen)? Matt fucking Leinart. He must feel like shit right now. I mean, yeah, he has a job until Manuel comes back in 2 or 3 weeks, but how shitty do you have be where he coach says "This guy won the Heisman and has loads of experience, but we're going with the guy that was undrafted and has played a total of about 30 minutes of pro football"? At least they didn't sign Vince Young... Oh, wait, that was last year.

    ReplyDelete
  93. This made me laugh so hard. The bills qb situation is sooooo bad, and the fact that leinart can't start over that kid is mind blowing. In a world with mark sanchez in it how can you the be the biggest USC qb bust?

  94. It all just really helps at the grades I teach because the students are starting to get a little cynical and immersing themselves with drama. So, connecting on things revolving around pop culture (including wrestling) and even finding ways to put them in lessons helps student engagement. It's pretty awesome when it works.

My sympathies to your wife, though. The worst teaching day of my life was when I subbed for 5th Grade. I was in Arnold mode from Kindergarten Cop in his "SHUT UUUUP" scene. I never had to yell that loud in class before or since. In my opinion, 5th and 6th grade teachers probably have the toughest jobs (students don't quite empathize as much as the older students, but they are smart enough to find many brilliant ways to cause trouble).

    ReplyDelete
  95. I know alot of female wrestling fans. During the Attitude era, even the hottest, most popular chicks at highschool were into the WWF. 16-18 seems to be about the cutoff point. Hell, I missed pretty much all of 2001-2005 (I turned 18 in 2000), not because I didn't like what I was seeing (2000 WWF was the shit), but because I was more focused on other shit, mainly getting money and pussy. I guess I grew out of it too, then got nostalgic for it and became a fan again.

I said at the time that getting rid of Tavares(sp?) Jackson was a bad idea. And why the FUCK would you sign Kevin Klob? Oh, the fucking Arizona Cardinals decided this guy isn't good enough to play there, let's pick him up. Come to think of it, See also: Matt Leinart. No wonder they're the joke of the league. I was smart though, first game I ever watched was SBXXIV when I was 6 or so, and I've been a Niners fan ever since. Fuck the Bills.

  112. Todd Marinovich might have something to say about this biggest USC quarterback bust stuff...

  113. Yes. Sex is definitely in play on that date if you can make it work. So which do you pick? Can't go live thread IMO because being on your laptop for a whole date can't make her feel like she's getting attention. ECW show sure is gonna make you look like a dork but Theres potential for a good time. I've gotta think all the weirdos (like the actual neck beard dudes) and the cutesy chants are going to combine with the fact its a wrestling show and kill your game. Guilty by association. Gotta go tour of a maximum security prison. Its unique, will lead to lots of conversation and maybe she'll think your catch in comparison to a crip or skinhead.

  114. Niner fan eh? Good man -- Been a die hard since 1981 -- And they looked good yesterday...

    ReplyDelete
  115. Well he did get to start that one playoff game when jay schroder got hurt lol.Yeah he sucked but at least he has a better story than leinart while they've had equally putrid pro careers

I MEANT BY HIM TELLING HER THAT SHE WAS THE MOS BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD AND SHE WAS SPEECHLESS AT HIS LOVE FOR HER

    now dont you look stupid

    ReplyDelete
  117. With you there -- Sounds like some cool shit to say to an obnoxious girlfriend of a guy you don't really have much respect for; I'm guessing the guy must not be a good friend -- I wouldn't bring my wife to an all dude gathering (she wouldn't want to come anyway) but if for some reason I did and some some dude said that shit to her the ensuing conversation between us wouldn't be very comfortable...

    ReplyDelete
  118. Todd M. was the starting QB for a Raiders team that got to the AFC championship. Sure, Buffalo trounced them, but that automatically makes him a bigger star than Leinart. You are 100% correct.

  119. You can add 50 Shades of Grey. When that gets made into a movie, and it will, that will rack in the female $$.

Die hard since... 1988, I guess? Whenever SBXXIV was. And while people give me shit for liking teams from different cities (I'm from Buffalo and and I'm a huge Colorado Avalanche fan for some fucking odd reason...), at least I stick with them. The Niners were terrible during most of the 2000s, but I didn't give up on them. And the Avalanche suck right now, but I'm going to jump ship. Bandwagon fans can eat a dick.

  121. I doubt you're missing much. You ever listen to a couple of random dicknecks doing a podcast about wrestling? It's excruciating. That's what you and some other person discussing wrestling would sound like and unless you lacked any sort of self-perspective, you'd notice it and actively be looking for something else to talk about before long.

I'm not sure what else fits into this category, but the smarky side of wrestling is just one of those things that is better discussed at arm's length through a keyboard.

I'm not sure why, but listening to two people who aren't in the business talk about how John Cena could totally kick Randy Orton's ass or how the Wyatt Family are so creepy is fine (assuming those people are 16 or younger). Listening to two adults who aren't in the business talk about how Daniel Bryan could have been put over stronger on that last Raw or how the WWE is really mishandling the push of the Shield makes you sound like the two dorkiest dorks that ever dorked.

    ReplyDelete
  122. You sound like an asshole, honestly. If she's not into it, just wave it off and go back to watching the PPV, but politely, not abrasively. It doesn't sound like she wanted to really discuss it any further anyway. Why be an asshole?

    ReplyDelete
  123. I love, love, LOVE it when internet wrestling guys talk about women. LOVE it. It's always a good time and it never disappoints.

    ReplyDelete
  124. This guy gets it.

I should probably clarify here, I should have said that I've never been friends/acquaintances with anyone that I'd call a "smark" (I put it in quotes because I know people hate it, but I can't think of a better term that the moment). But I've ran into people like that at indy shows, and even WWE shows, and they're the fucking worst. They always like to pick on the kids too, like, they'll see an 8 year old kid with a Cena shirt on and go on a rant about shitty booking and jobbing and all the other shit you shouldn't be telling a kid that still thinks it's real. It's like just randomly telling a 4 year old on Christmas that Santa isn't real either. Though I will say there's a guy like that's always at the ESW shows that can do a dead on impression of damn near every wrestler ever. Guy is hilarious, especially when he does Scott Hall.

Scott loves it too, I'm sure, this thread is getting a lot of hits.

  127. You won't find me talking any shit on the 50 Shades books -- I won't read them but I definitely was the beneficiary of my wife's interest in them and I encourage her to read any other books in the same category...

Thing is, they're going to forget about stuff like that within a year or two. I'm not taking sides here, but you're kind of proving his point with your comment.

  129. The same one who wrote for Bryan Alvarez? I wondered the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  130. And now I am thinking of JBL's reply to the "you suck dick" chant at ONS.

  131. A maximum security prison, because she can't be raped in there.

  132. Maybe what female BoDer's we do have just don't want to admit that they're female.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Woah disqus made me think you were fuj...

    ReplyDelete
  134. Uh no I was implying ECW females didn't have talent

  135. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

If you you look ever so slightly to the right of your screen.

    Consider yourself "ribbed"

  136. Possibly -- No real sides to be taken here -- Kind of depends on what your criteria for fandom is -- We certainly aren't doing anything to advance relations between the sexes on this subject though :-)

    ReplyDelete
  137. She was being obnoxious herself, how do you think she'd feel if you sat down during some romcom and pointed out how stupid you thought it was?

    ReplyDelete
  138. I think so -- I remember her from the Wrestleline days...

    ReplyDelete
  139. C'mon bro that's racist. ;)

  140. Yeah, can't really argue that -- But he was a Raider and I don't like the Raiders so he loses some points (fair and balanced, that's me)...

    ReplyDelete
  141. If you were fan through the Alex smith era your allowed to call yourself a die hard 49er fan. Because that was football death

    ReplyDelete
  142. Yeah, I noticed your disdain of Smith in a previous thread -- I personally like the dude but a lot of fellow Niner fan friends of mine don't -- Why don't you like him?

  143. Amsterdam_Adam_CurryAugust 27, 2013 at 12:26 AM

God, that was terrible. I don't have the same hatred of him as you do, but that period was just embarrassing. What was it, 6 OCs in 7 years?

  144. Eh, women tend to do better in schools, so they have a different kind of intelligence. Less focused on intense nerdy activities and statting- they focus more on asinine things like fanfiction, "shipping" characters together and drawing shitty fan-art.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Girls are more transient with their fanbases, sure- male nerds kind of go through a bit of that, but you'll find people who have been wrestling fans for like 20 years pretty regularly compared to girls who watched one kind of thing for years.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I think the one girl who was a Spike Dudley supporter (Mike Awesome beat the shit out of her on one show) was a legit fan- the boys respected her because she took a HUGELY stiff shot after demanding that Awesome not softball it in or anything. She was about as attractive as your usual ECW fan.

    ReplyDelete
  147. She asked a question about something she was unfamiliar with. A simple and obvious question, but a question. He became defensive, aggressive and escalated the situation needlessly.

    ReplyDelete
  148. and what's you problem again?

    ReplyDelete
  149. That's uh, like, your opinion, man.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Hahaha. These are both great questions
