Sorry, I read 'G1 Glimax' and made a promise to myself that the next time I get laid I'm going to play The Transformers scene transition music when climaxing.
I've watched many Japanese matches back in the day, but nothing from NJPW from the last few years. Are there any appropriate matches that will serve as a decent introduction to Tanahashi? I realize it's borderline sacrilegious to be ignorant of this fella, and I am intrigued by all of the hype. But it seems like every match I see of him on YouTube is between 35 and 50 minutes long.
Basically, I want to know if there are any good matches of him out there that are under 25 minutes (or, preferably, under 20 minutes) OR are there any good matches of him against someone who has been featured in North America before (so I can get a better idea of his style and how it contrasts with what I watch regularly)?
This match here is only about 16 -17 minutes I believe, so it would be a good start, and will likely end up on everyone's Top 10 list at the end of the year. To up the ante, he plays subtle heel in the first half of the match, just to display his range. But you're right, the majority of his main events are of the lengthy, epic, Flair-esq variety. Last night's main event (this one) is a bit condensed. the other half of the video is the post-game show.
I just watched the Dominion 06.22 show, my first NJPW full ppv...and damn. Their roster is just amazing, and I was blown away by how solid the whole show was. When four hours breeze by in what feels like two, you know it's a good show.
Actually most of those videos are under 30 minutes. They are longer cause the people putting them on youtube put the video packages and the after match stuff (they make a big deal of defending the title and stuff after matches with in promo's ect). I'd run through all of NJPW from the begining of 2012 as that was possibly the best year ever for any wrestling promotion.
I haven't checked in since Kizuna Road, but I only hope the Ishii/Suzuki war culminates in a cage match, at least.
ReplyDeleteStrong MOTYC, right here.

Just got the soundtrack from the animated movie this morning to take to the gym.

ReplyDeleteBA DA DA BA BUM!
ReplyDeleteWell, now that the floodgates have been opened, might as well ask.
ReplyDeleteWhat would be the proper pricing point for a non-stop orgy of ****+ matches?
Here's a good start. There are more ****+ matches on there than what is indicated. The 3/1/03 match is ***** and the WON match of the year.

ReplyDeleteThey don't do cage matches much in big shows. Ishii has been on a run since the New Japan Cup.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kindness and response.
