So I went ahead and gave this the ole 'TV is a visual medium' test and watched it without sound - serviceable but not dynamic. I like the visual aesthetic but one of the issues with DSLR film making is that things sometimes look a little too...real. Do you know the guys who made this? I'd love to send them a post-mortem sorta thing.
It sucked me in so I'd watch it if it was picked up. I only have one minor quibble. What was up with the finish to the match? Kayfabe or not, the finish to the match makes no sense unless I'm missing some kind of context.
If I were in attendance for something like this I would never come back. When Vince screwed the title off people it looked like part of the show. This was completely business exposing.
Why exactly wouldn't they want the big blond guy as champ when they go national? And moreover, how on earth is a company drawing 100 people going national?
This is either very zen, very meta, or an oopsie. Either way, I approve!

ReplyDeleteTook me way too long to recognize Piper.
ReplyDeleteDid not expect to see Hart under that mask. He sounded a bit like his dad too. I'd watch this if they made it into a series.

ReplyDeleteI'm going to assume this wasn't the pilot for The Rock's NBC wrestling pilot based on the budget and cast.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't bad, but it's definitely not something a major network or a TNT/USA would pick up.
I find the lack of Harry Smilac disturbing.
ReplyDeleteIf this becomes a show in the US, I'd watch it all the time.
ReplyDeleteIt was the early '80s, what more context do you need? Companies had phantom title switches all the time.
