In the last few weeks we have seen a quasi looser leave town match, a Dusty finish and a great Dusty promo. The obvious follow up is for Cody to come back under a mask. The Dirty Yellow Midnight Riding Dog.
Scott from Long Island
I actually have thought ever since Cody was out that they'd be bringing him back as the Midnight Rider to fuck with HHH, since real life HHH is such a mark for that whole era anyway.
The big issue is that nowadays - when owners/GM/COO/Commissioner/Generic Authority Figure is so common-place, I don't know how you'd realistically explain how some unknown could show up on the roster without HHH knowing about it. When the Midnight Rider angle was done previously the 'authority figures' were more removed and didn't appear on TV every week.
ReplyDeleteI'm a mark for that era as well, what with its exciting angles and interesting characters.
ReplyDeleteI want Show in the mask because the masked face gimmick is funnier when it's beyond obvious who it is*
*except Mr. America.
Mr. America was funny, at least.
ReplyDelete*fsnort*
ReplyDeleteJust one week I want David Crockett guesting in Cole's earpiece instead of Vince. Mark city, baby!
Easy solution to this... Maddox hires a new star to try and impress Triple H.
ReplyDeleteMaddox is dumb enough.
ReplyDeleteTrue, and he is such a doofus it would explain how he'd hire someone without knowing who he is.
ReplyDeleteThis... is good.
ReplyDelete'I introduce to you our newest tag team, the James Boys!'
ReplyDeletePlus I think crowds are different than the last time they tried this with Hogan. They'd play along a lot better.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of this gimmick anytime its done. Edge and Christian being the conquistadors was classic. But theres been so many great examples. Was dusty and the midnight rider the first time they did the gimmick or was it done before that?
ReplyDeleteLike the Giant Machine/Andre thing?
ReplyDeleteTo pull it off, he'd almost have to do what Miz did when he played the Calgary Kid: Win a contract.
ReplyDeleteIf they had the patience for it, have Cody do the gimmick in NXT for a few weeks and then they could say he worked his way up through developmental.
The Dusty Dilemma could have been solved by having Cody returns AS Goldust. All the faces act dumb when the heels insist it's really Cody.
ReplyDeleteI'm still not sure that was Andre.
ReplyDeleteIt hinges on Cole and Lawler winding up JBL as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteVery true. There is footage of Dustin using a mask instead of the face paint so it could happen.
ReplyDeleteIt was implied, never proven.
ReplyDeleteScott from Long Island, can you explain why you can't spell the word loser?
ReplyDeleteThat would be awesome.
ReplyDeleteMr. America is a guilty pleasure of mine. Even the lie detector segment.
ReplyDeleteMACHEEL!
ReplyDeleteMeh...nobody watches NXT. Having him do the gimmick in NXT would be a nice touch, but not really necessary.
ReplyDeleteIf we're going to have Cole channel David Crockett, then I want Brock Lesnar to channel Nikita Koloff:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PdW-gOJobc
YES.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's the little touches that make an angle truly great. Wouldn't hurt anyone to try it out.
ReplyDeleteI have a better idea for getting a disgruntled worker back on TV:
ReplyDeleteThe Midnight Ryder!
hey
ReplyDeleteGTA V is awesome as fuck. I just dont like the white dot used as a target for shooting. Makes it impossible for me to do drive by. Im gonna thread jack this too. Can I please have my ip unbanned? Its lobster head. I didnt mean to post spoilers. dolphinfan admitted his sources were wrong so I just copy and pasted his tweet that he was quitting
ReplyDeleteTony Schiavone's flatline on 'get some help for David Crockett' was solid gold.
ReplyDeleteI didn't like IV at all, so I can't get really pumped about this. I hope they've addressed the terrible load times.
ReplyDeleteI always imagined they kept Jesse around because he makes the rest of us look sane. Kind of like the one guy at a party of bar that is so drunk no one else looks all that bad in comparison.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Hulk Machine?
ReplyDeleteBeen playing the PS3 version all morning, loving it, wish i didn't have to study for tests Thursday though :P
ReplyDeleteCody could just start wearing his old face protecting mask again. Problem solved.
ReplyDeleteThere was also Piper Machine.
ReplyDeleteThey could always use it for clips if he did though... plus it's not like they don't have time to play this out a bit.
ReplyDeleteAs a writer of game reviews I'd just like to point out the IGN review is one of my least favorite written things of all time.
ReplyDeleteJust some tips: Hammer A to sprint faster, don't be annoyed by the opening missions being a little lackluster at first, the handling feels a little loose at first driving wise but is AWESOME once you get the hang of it, you can customize EVERYTHING, and uh uh uh
ReplyDelete*Spins* Wheeeeeee
Yeah, GTA IV was a huge disappointment for me. I'll probably check out Saints Row IV before I get around to this.
ReplyDeleteBecause he is one?
ReplyDeleteActually, they fixed the mission checkpoints in the "Ballad of Gay Tony" game which had every GTA fan going "THANK GOD about time!" Just intimidated by the damn size of it, supposed to be bigger than GTA IV and RDD combined, need plenty of hours for it.
ReplyDeleteLike with IV, I'll play it for a few weeks, get frustrated with it and forget about it. But those few weeks will be glorious.
ReplyDeleteCody could be the Moustache Rider.
ReplyDeletelol I guess I mustve really pissed someone off for spoiling their precius wrestling for a downvote. It really wasnt intentional but pps emotions jst get carried away too much. Flair4thegold shouldve read my comment instead of dismissing it bc he was ban hungry
ReplyDeleteJust mentioning dolphin was a bad idea... much less posting his "spoilers" (whether in anger, or whether they were fake, doesn't really matter).
ReplyDeleteAnd every post you "hijack" to ask back is likely lengthening that account's ban. Just let it go for a couple days, post calmly on your new account, and then calmly ask one of the GMs in private to be unbanned.
I agree with you. The ban on reddit spoilers is ridiculous.
ReplyDeletePeople still read IGN?
ReplyDeleteTry the "Tales from Liberty City" games, much shorter, less frustration and in my opinon, much better story/characters. "Lost and the Damned" is basically a video game Sons of Anarchy, awesome as hell.
ReplyDeleteNothing guilty about that. The Mr. America thing was absolutely fantastic!!
ReplyDelete"There's no way he and I are the same, brother!!! What chu gonna do??"
Wouldn't that be Bre Bella?
ReplyDeleteand Hulk Machine.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I mean. Instead of having him come out nowhere they can say he was on NXT.
ReplyDeleteLMAO at Crocket laying on the ground all twisted up like Peter Griffin from Family Guy.
ReplyDeleteCould also bring him back as a heel. Sell out to HHH to get his job back and turns on Bryan at some point.
ReplyDeleteCare to elaborate? Genuinely curious.
ReplyDeleteI finished GTA III and IV this past year. Got frustrated with Vice City and San Andreas (the flying school was a crap shoot for me...). Looking forward to V- I pre-ordered the collector's edition because of my love of Nico, but I can't pick up until Thursday...
ReplyDeleteBob had his chance.
ReplyDeleteNow, the wrestling style would certainly be different, but I thought Sin Cara's injury felt a little TOO forced to be legit. What better way to infiltrate than to come back as an already-established wrestler?
ReplyDeletethat would be boring and stupid. we already have Big Show for that crap.
ReplyDeletethe only way they should have Cody come back as a villain working for HHH, is if they have him "injure" Orton in such gruesome fashion, that Steph (not HHH) decides to recruit Cody as the new corporate champion and forces HHH to hand Cody the belt. And force Orton to be Cody's slave because he failed to live up to HHH's high standards, while Cody came back, got revenge, and proved himself worthy of being HHH's new heir.
(Bonus points if they stick Orton in a wheelchair for a month or two and have him snarking at HHH and do a big reveal where he ends up getting out of the chair, turning face again, and helping Bryan in the final fight against HHH ala Spike helping Buffy fight Angel in season two of BTVS)
Can you ever just enjoy something without making up some elaborate plot of how things should turn out, thus making yourself disappointed and angry when they don't follow your plot exactly?
ReplyDeleteWell?
Everything is boring and stupid compared your posts.
ReplyDeleteIt was just very "It is very this it is very that, it is good, it is pretty" there was nothing that engaged me in the imagery and the tone of the game. When you read a movie review by a real film critic then have a thesis and themes and a tone and are attempting to communicate some idea bout what that particular film meant to accomplish, and what it meant to him. The IGN GTA review read like a 10th grade English Assignment.
ReplyDeleteWhich may be the point, I know the times is written at like a 5th grade reading level, so maybe they didn't want to alienate the masses with creativity or passion.
So, pretty much wow. Having played GTA now for about 6 hours I have to say I'm really liking it. Its the little details, dudes on the street, how everyone seemingly nabs their phones, the commercials on the radio and way the game subtly turns a mirror on American life by making everyone sour and showing that all that glitters is not gold. This game is absolutely passing judgement on you for enjoying all these acts of wonton violence and mayhem, while still rooting for this characters.
ReplyDeleteAnd you almost have to root for these characters. While I haven't made it to having Trevor unlocked yet, the interaction between Michael, Franklin and Michael's son is already some of my favorite in recent memory, you can tell almost instantly that lethargic Michael sees something in the desperate-to-be-upwardly mobile Franklin, and may in fact may find a long missing sense of purpose in mentoring him. On the flip side, Michael's son, a millennial sees a hardcore, "OG" in Franklin, and instantly takes a shining to him, perhaps even making an attempt to talk with real human beings, versus the disembodied voices he calls his social life over online gaming services.
The gameplay is solid and the driving mechanics are tight. Shooting is a little wonky at the moment, but with various upgradeable stats it's entirely possible that gets better, too. There looks to be a TON of weapons and items to unlock, and you'll very likely have toys to play around with for years.
The side missions and distractions so far are a bit of a disappointment, Golf is cool and Tennis is great, but tend to go on too long and don't seem to offer any tangible rewards beyond the gratification of being your own score, but I could be wrong. I'm not sure if Taxi missions and Cop missions are present, but I sure hope they are, as the world is so fully realized, the more things I'm able to do in it, the better.
Certainly a strong recommendation so far. I'll have a full review up on www.hollywoodchicago.com by the end of the week.
I'm guessing the chance of you being illiterate is pretty high based on your typing, but you did read the tweet you posted, right? Past the first few words where reddit guy admitted he was wrong? Where he spoiled the rest of the show? And was pretty much right if memory serves?
ReplyDeleteI don't really care about the spoilers, and actually posted in that thread that reddit guy was at it that night. But passive aggressively begging to get back on the site is not the way to get back in. At least own up to messing up. And the mess up wasn't mentioning dolphin being wrong, it was actually posting spoilers when the ban threat's been pretty clear on it since he started.
Would it matter though? If we're playing along and suspending disbelief, just paint Cody. The rail thin guy's going to be a giveaway regardless of neck up.
ReplyDelete(grows moustache)
ReplyDeleteHere is a good review of GTA V.
ReplyDeletehttps://soundcloud.com/#leighalexander1/review-of-gta-v-this-is-why-we
I've been playing for about 5 or 6 hours, and it is pretty amazing. Spent more time exploring than doing story missions so far, and, wow, there is a lot to see. The map doesn't really do the scale justice. There is so much ground to cover that I haven't made it from one end to the other...I find myself getting sidetracked by something fascinating. Wait till a deer or coyote runs out into the road in front of you. I did try to skin the animals or something, because it feels a lot like Red Dead, and we know how great that was.
ReplyDeleteAnd the whole thing absolutely fixes some of the issues of IV. That was a great game, but had some serious problems that would just halt the fun. V does address so many concerns we used to have.
Huh, I actually thought it was one of the more well-written IGN reviews I've seen, but I don't hate IGN as much as a lot of people seem to.
ReplyDeleteBut did you enjoy the others?
ReplyDeleteWas wondering; if you were going to buy a game system for GTA5, which one would you get?
ReplyDeleteI'm leaning PS3 if only because that system doesn't make you have to pay extra for basic online function junk like X-Box does, plus the fact that you never heard much about PS3 systems dying on you.
Which one will have the better online gaming community for GTA5?
You're a bit late to the party on the 'which console to buy', aren't you?
ReplyDeleteBut I've had two 360s and neither has died on me - and I've not heard of any serious reliability issues for some time.
Equally, whilst you may have to pay for it I'm not aware of Xbox live suffering a mass hacking like the PS Network did.
For me, the choice between the two systems mainly came down to the controller. I like the Xbox controller and don't like the PS one - but both are good machines.
That's the third scenario in two nights that involved someone just handing the title over to another person. Can't someone just straight up win the damn thing?
ReplyDeleteI recommend PS3. I've never had a problem with mine, free online, and I happen to prefer the controller and exclusive games.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest complaint about the series is the driving mechanics. Hopefully that's significantly upgraded here over IV.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I thought it was really good, personally. A huge step up from the guys who review the sports games.
ReplyDeleteYes. I loved III and especially Vice City, one of my favorite games ever.
ReplyDeleteFUCKING CHECKPOINTS! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!
ReplyDeleteThe re-introduction of Trevor out in the sticks:
ReplyDeleteZOMGWTFHOLYSHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!!!
Then you've enjoyed more GTA's than not. So why not give it another try?
ReplyDeleteJobber pulls off an upset, maybe.
ReplyDeleteIt is an easier switch if it's a mask then if it's face paint. Look at it like this:
ReplyDeleteDustin gets hired and does the "Goldust" gimmick. During a match he and Cody do the "Twin magic" switch. Thinking ghat it's Cody, HHH runs in the back and does that search for a person in between matches" shtick. They find Goldust talking to Cody in the back. HHH walks off pissed off because they got one over on him.
TBH, they could to the "James Gang" angle and jump people outside the arena. But that may be too close to the Aces and Eights angle.
ReplyDeleteThe final fight must be the face going over clean without help.
ReplyDeleteIt could have been Giant Baba!
ReplyDeleteHow about when Los Matadors finally show up- it is Cody and Dustin?
ReplyDeleteI feel we should put the CAPSMANLOCK/lobsterhead ban up to a vote. Set up a thread and everyone gets one vote. Democracy motherfuckers!
ReplyDeleteI didnt see the banned post but if you post spoilers that were wrong, doesnt that mean the opposite will happen, thus its still a spoiler? Or did you post something completely different?
ReplyDeleteThis just made me realize that Goldust already has the right color scheme to come out disguised as the Conquistadors.
ReplyDeleteThis is the problem with the on-screen boss thing, in a nutshell
ReplyDelete
