Random Rare Battle Royal Match I found

Hey, Scott, check this out. A Battle Royal match for unknown promotion from 1995 featuring Cactus Jack, Disco Inferno, RVD, Van Hammer, Scorpio, and Scott Flamingo but he's wearing the Raven attire. I thought it would be interesting to share

Well you know I love battles royale.

  1. Interesting. Raven was clearly trying out the character before the ECW debut

  2. I'm in the same boat with Scott in liking the Johnny Polo character over Raven. Well, unless Scott has changed his tune since 1999.

  3. I agree. Johnny Polo was infinitely more entertaining than Raven.

  4. It was much more limited.

  5. RAVEN > POLO > FLAMINGO

  6. You mean the Polo gimmick? Had Raven stayed in the WWF and not tried to turn Shane and Steph into reckless party animals (I'm half kidding) he would have been successful. Especially as a color commentator.

  7. No way. His act would've gotten incredibly tired. And he didn't want to be a color commentator. Raven was a complex character. Polo was a gimmick.

  8. The Raven character did great things no doubt but I still think Polo would have worked. And Heyman could have found another wrestler to play that role.

  9. Sure, just plop Justin Credible in there and it'll be just as good.

  13. Seems like a stretch to say that Heyman could have found another person to play that role. I doubt Heyman would have even thought to have gotten somebody else to play that role, since 'Raven' seemed to be Scott Levy's creation.

Levy seems like a talented guy - I think if he had been given the opportunity he could have made more out of the Johnny Polo character, but it doesn't seem like WWF had any interest in giving him that opportunity.

  14. Should kind of be a process of elimination thing. Most likely late 1994 to early 1995 since he debuted in ECW in January of 1995. He was working mostly in the northeast at that point anyway, and the banner in the background would lead one to believe it took place in either NY state or northern Jersey based on Lady Liberty. They announce of the name of the title at around 2:00 and it sounds like they say the Cornell Championship. Given those qualifiers, I'm assuming the show was run in Ithaca, NY. Does anyone know what indys ran in that area in the mid '90s?

  15. Nevermind. It has to be late '95. Disco didn't debut in WCW until late August of that year. So it was most likely a gaffe on the part of the announcer/promoter.

  16. Id argue that Raven was a top 10 character creation in the 90s. He was more or less the centerpiece of ECW in its hottest period. When you think about the landscape of characters that were being created in 95 by WCW and WWF, he was far ahead of his time.
