Because WCW?
Because while "Pomp and Circumstance" may be public domain, SPECIFIC PERFORMANCES of "Pomp and Circumstance" are not. So you run the risk of paying money for a license on some performance of "Pomp and Circumstance" other than the one the WWF paid for, and having it sound NEARLY the same but maybe not quite the same as the "original" Randy Savage "Pomp" and then people start making jokes about cheap knockoffs...
ReplyDeleteClassical music! It's more complex than you think it is.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olNjTHajjd8 I thought he did?
ReplyDeleteHe did intially. Then, during his "Team Madness" phase, he had some generic rock tune.
ReplyDeleteBecause WCW writers didn't graduate from high school, so they had no idea what the song represented?
ReplyDeleteOOOOHHHHHYYYYEEEEEAAAAH
Yeah, he had Pomp and Circumstance for all of his WCW face run pretty much lol. Then he switched to the NWO music when he went NWO and then the 'Team Madness' theme when he came back in 1999.
ReplyDeleteRecently I've been appreciating his Team Madness era work. At the time I thought he was a dinosaur but in retrospect Macho Man was always awesome.

P&C didn't fit his post nwo persona at all.
ReplyDeleteThe rock and roll version he used in WCW was pretty awesome
ReplyDeleteWHAT UP, MACH?
ReplyDeleteI was gonna say.... I thought I remember him coming out to it when he was a babyface.

ReplyDeleteClassic Pomp & Circumstance from his debut.
When I went to a high school graduation for the first time (1990-91ish) and they played Pomp & Circumstance for the graduates, I turned to my mom and said, "Oh MY GOD MACHO MAN IS HERE!!!" I was old enough to know better but it got a laugh from my parents, haha.
his wcw version was like a remix with the guitars whaling in the background. It wasnt that bad. Wasnt Flairs original wwf music a tad different than the 2001 space oddysey he used in wcw?
ReplyDeleteSavage's WCW music (at first) was P&C played on electric guitars. Flair's initial WWF music was not the 2001 theme at all.
ReplyDeleteThe WCW version was definitely better. Besides, new company means new theme... it's kind of an unwritten rule.
ReplyDeleteNot an etched in stone rule. I'm watching the Goldberg DVD now, his theme came with him intact. (I'm assuming there weren't any dubbing shenanigans. Probably not a safe assumption, but still.)
ReplyDeleteI seem to recall Savage not liking that theme music as it was Gorgeous George's music, so I wouldn't be surprised if he asked to get new theme music when he went to WCW.
