QOTD 102: Rise and shine

I had to work at 7am today, despite a normal second shift schedule. As a result about 65 percent of my brain is asleep, and the other 45 is running on fumes.

Thus:

What's the weirdest schedule-related adventure you've ever had? Working that pesky 2am-7am shift at Dunkin Donuts? Getting up at 5am on a Saturday to road trip to a venue in time for a football game? Did you watch the THIRD Wrestlemania replay starting at 2am and go to bed around dawn?

  1. I would gladly accept your offer.

I have a little theory I want to share, if I may. Meaning I have no evidence to back this up. The peak period ratings wise was in '99. Who was the biggest star? The Rock. So what do you attribute the big spike in numbers?

I say black women. Black women loved them some Rock and tuned in every week to see him. Young, old, middle age, they loved that man. I think the black audience as a whole is an untapped market that they really should try to cater to sometimes. It doesn't have to dominate the show, but it should be more featured that it is.

  2. I have no idea what that is? Is that an event that happened? It sounds cool!

    ReplyDelete
  3. So bad on so many levels it isn't funny. Roman Reigns would make more sense.

    ReplyDelete
  4. It was a night-long WCW marathon on TBS back in the day. THey may have done more than one, but I specifically remember one where a bunch of announcers were hanging out at Tony Schiavone's house, waiting on Ric Flair to show up.

They showed a bunch of high-profile matches that you normally didn't see on cable, running from, like midnight to 6 a.m.

  5. Why is it that every time I wake up on a Saturday morning, there are a bunch of new threads to go through? Does everyone HAVE to post a thread during the Friday-Saturday overnight?

That's my scheduling adventure: spending my Saturday mornings reading a whole bunch of BoD threads while I await breakfast and/or something good to watch on television.

  6. It's a good way to be! I finally got some freelance wriitng work so I'm currently researching Mac Friendly MMOs on my...work PC...which is ironic I suppose.

    ReplyDelete
  7. That's really cool. Has anyone ever done like, a WCW Saturday Night watch-a-thon for charity?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Not for charity, but back when WWE put Saturday night on its On Demand website, I did WCWSN watch-a-thons all the time. I didn't realize there was potential for fundraising.

  9. How did I miss 100?

  10. For about 3 months when I was 21 I worked 2 full time jobs so I'd have to ride my bike to start one at 6am, then finish at 4 and haul ass literally the full length of my not small town, and then work the other one 5pm to 1 am or so. Home by 2:30 am usually (sometimes 2) and then back up at 4:30 to do it all again. I was a zombie.

  11. We're the only ones who remember that...

    ReplyDelete
  12. It's coming Wrestlemania weekend. I'm doing a QOTD HOF Induction and awards ceremony. The Otties.

  13. Were you trying to get your Daughter Lisa a pony?

  14. If you could poach one established wrestler, one up-and-comer, one female and one retiree as a booking consultant to build this promotion around, who would it be?
I'm thinking Big E, the Jason Jordan kid from NXT, Naomi and D'Von Dudley.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh so we jumped it?

    ReplyDelete
  16. No, I just wanted to see how far I could push myself.

I did it again when I was like 26 and it only lasted one month. Turns out i need sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm pushing it forward because I realized a fake awards video takes a little more time than I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Haha this was my November - January. Two full time jobs, so much stress, simply insanity.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I can't speak for any up-and-comers cause I don't watch NXT or see too much indy stuff. I'd take Titus over Big E. I agree on Naomi, but I'd take Ron Simmons over D'Von. When I listen to shoots of guys like D'Lo, Mark Henry, etc they really put over how much he schools them on the business as a whole.

  20. I worked a part time job, a full time job, and full time college. So I would get up at 6 to drive to class by 7, be done with class by 1, drive to the part time job at the photography studio and work until 4, drive to my full time job as tech support for comcast and work until 1. Drive home and I'd be in bed by 2, and have to wake up four hours later. Worked 5 hour shifts on Saturdays and Sundays too.

I did this for two years.

Could be the only ones who remember him period.

  23. Hogan showed up to the Performance Center in his ring gear because that's the only clothes he has left. Linda got most of his clothes in the settlement and he had to sell the rest to pay her alimony. Did he still have the feathered boa? I bet he could get a pretty penny off of that on eBay.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It would have to be with a Jericho-like one-foot-cover. I doubt Hogan could get down to the mat to cover a guy.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Working 8am - 12am 7 days a week fr hundreds of days in a row on every campaign ever.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Every time we interviewed a candidate this past campaign season, the staffers that came in with them always looked so tired. We would offer everyone coffee when they came in. The candidate always declined. The staffers on the other hand, would jump at it every time. The bagels, too.

I'd love to work on an elected official's staff, no way do I want to work on a campaign. I couldn't handle it.

  27. It is the most grueling, unglorified, zombiefying, unappreciated ob in our society. They make peanuts, live off the generosity of others and literally have no life at all... yet I miss it more than anything I have ever done because it is the most rewarding job I can imagine.

I was lucky in that one of the candidates I worked for was known to be the hardest working congressman in Washington. He would literally only sleep 1 - 2 hours a day ever and would work the entire time. If he had to travel across the state he would drive so he didn't have to miss any call time, when he would work a parade he would literally run the entire parade route and shake every single hand on the way through. Knowing that you were working for someone like that made it a lot easier to take the sacrifice of your entire life.

  28. I would be on the next immediate flight to whatever city WM is in this year in order to join in the rioting.

    ReplyDelete
  29. If Hulk Hogan doesn't beat up Zeb Colter & Jack Swagger, then the WWE has failed us.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Only if Hogan challenges Taker immediately after a 20 minute match, Fuji accidentally throws salt in Taker's eyes and Hogan kills the streak in 120 seconds.

If they were trying to get the people cheering Byan to cheer for someone else, they couldn't have picked a worse choice than Batista. He's pretty much the opposite of Bryan and what people like about him.

Batista also comes off like a major asshole. Has had had a promo where he just came to the ring alone and talked to the fans about why he came back? All I recall him doing since he came back was walking around in tight clothes and threatening people.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'd feel more comfortable watching Anderson Silva kicking a brick wall.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well it's like they always say: you can either sit through Raw, or have a tuning fork scraped along your urethra.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hulk Hogan looks like a real-life, modern day Where's Waldo with that picture, except he's not hiding very well.

    ReplyDelete
  35. As a result about 65 percent of my brain is asleep, and the other 45 is running on fumes.

    110% BRAIN!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Is there a chance Batista won't be in the main event at Mania at all owing to recent reactions? I certainly don't see him closing the show without the crowd taking a giant shit on it (a bit like last year)

    ReplyDelete
  37. My job requires me to be the "Jack Of All Trades, Master Of All" in MY BUSINESS~! so at any given moment, say at 3:30 AM, I could get the call to get to work ASAP.

That's the hardest part, too: the constant changing of schedules and how it affects your sleep pattern. During a five day work week it can run the gamut from working a regular 9-5ish shift to starting at 3:00 AM and having to stick around to 4:00 PM.

There's nothing worse than getting the call at 5:00 AM when you're in a nice warm bed with a girl: "You gotta get in here mate, Richard's called up sick." You will curse Richard and the womb that spawned him, oh yes you will.

  38. I'm sorry Paul, I can't think of anything right now due to the shock that your post isn't 10 paragraphs or have any mentions of otters.
It's just out of character for you.

  40. I liked Hulk Hogan's lesser known England rematch with Sgt. Slaughter in '91. It was good. It entertained me.

Off-topic, but my Roku app on my tablet informed me that the WWE Network is showing up in the Roku store. I have the original Roku, and it is not showing up in my store, therefore it will not be available on any original devices. Looks like a Roku 3 is in my future.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well today has no turned out well. After talking to someone who spent fifteen minutes dicking me around about not wanting to install a networking thing we sent him to get his internet up, he says he can't 'plug in the antenna' after going back and forth asking if he had plugged in the antenna.

So angry I was I hung up and kicked my chair. All four wheels fell off and broke into pieces. Today has not been a good day.

    ReplyDelete
  43. You should get the roku 3 anyway. Several apps don't work on the others (like youtube) the interface for Roku 3 is far better, and the search function that searches all of your apps at once can't be beat... plus it is only $100; the Strangers can shake the couch cushions and come up with that kind of money.

  44. Wow so Aussies really do call each other "mate" I thought that was a stereotype.

  48. Put Batista in a plastic bubble and have him drop into a chocolate cake, splattering it all over Principal Skinner. "It's Dave, and he's winning us back!"

I shake my couch cushions and find that chicken wing I thought I ate. Thanks for the tip....it's been on the horizon for a while. I just need to upgrade to cable from DSL.

  50. Nothing too crazy. I start work at 5 in the morning every day, though, so your definition of crazy is probably going to different from mine.

  52. Why, in a million years, would they have thought Dave hugging hhh was a good debut? Is hhh that stupid? Did hhh want to undercut Dave's heat right at the jump? For what reason?
